Today ill talk about three specific actions. One increasing vaccine supplies. Two, providing more places for people to get vaccinated. And three, supporting state and local partners in their efforts toll get needles in arms. Let me start with vaccine supply. As i know, this is top of mind for all of us. Last week, we took steps to increase the amount of vaccine going to states, tribes and territories by 16 . Today, we are further increasing that weekly allocation by an additional 5 . So for the next three weeks, we will provide a minimum of 10. 5 million in total dose esper week across all jurisdictions. That means we have increased supply by more than 20 since we took office. And we have succeeded in our efforts to secure the equipment required to extract a sixth dose from pfizers viles. Vaccine kits shipped to states, tribes and territories require the syringe to have a 20 increase in the pfizer doses. To be clear, this is on top of the 10. 5 million doses we will ship this week. We are delivering on our commitment to provide states with three weeks forward visibility into supply. This is critical and we have sherd strong feedback from state and local leaders this is helping give them to plan and get vaccines administered more quickly. But we know its not only the amount of vaccine that matters. Another critical component is creating places for americans to get vaccinated. They turn to their local pharmacy for medicines, flu shots and much more. And pharmacies are readily accessible within five miles of a pharmacy. Our first face of the federal Retail Program of covid19 vack nations. Offering vaccinations in americas pharmacies. Starting on february 11, the federal government will deliver vaccines to select farm as cyst across the country and provide more sites for people to get vaccinated and important component to deliver adequately. It will expand access in neighborhoods across the country and make an appointment and get your shot conveniently and quickly. I want to set expectations appropriately. During the supply constraints this will be limited when it begins next week. Supply will be at only about 6500 Stores Nationwide before expanding. And in the early phase, many farm as cyst will not have ack scenes or very limited supply. People should make sure they meet the states eligibility requirements for vaccinations and check availability on their local pharmacy website. This is how the centers of Disease Control is working with partners. Sites are selected to reach some of the populations most at risk including socially vulnerable communities. And the c. D. C. Will monitor the data to make sure that farm as cyst are administering vaccinations. This initial face will get more shots in arms and ensure that pharmacies have the infrastructure and to scale up when it is increased in the months ashed head. Eventually as we are able to increase supply, 40,000 pharmacies could provide for the vaccinations. These are places from local independent pharmacies, to National Pharmacies in supermarkets. This will provide the public with convenient and trusted places to get vaccinated in their communities. Importantly, pharmacies are one part of their effort that are includes mobile clinics, Community Health centers and other providers that americans count on each and every day. Finally, central to our strategy to make sure states, tribes and territories have the resources to turn vaccines into vaccinationses. At the direction of President Biden, fema has increased its support. President biden directed fema to reimburse states for the cost of National Guard personnel and other emergency costs. We will go even nurt and further reimburse states for the services they provided back to the pandemic in january, 2020. That means the states will be fully repaid for things like masks and gloves and mobilization of the National Guard and use the resources for Vaccination Efforts and emergency supplies moving forward. This reimbursement is to cost a total of 3 tore 5 billion dollars. Testing, testing and mass vaccination centers. So to fully support states, tribes and territories needs to vaccinate, President Biden is requesting 350 billion in the American Rescue plan. This is a National Emergency and we are treating it as such. We are bringing the full force of the federal government to partner with state and local leaders. We are giving americans the facts they need and working to ensure our response is fair annette equitable. It is critical that congress does its part as well. We need congress to pass the American Rescue plan and give us the funding to continue to scale up our Vaccination Program and provide the resources that state and local leaders need to protect their communities and fight the pandemic. So, i guess what would be helpful would be just to understand first of all, you know, you mentioned 6500 pharmacies in the program. How many vaccine doses are going to be pushed through that on a weekly basis and the three to five billion, does that require congress to pass legislation . Mr. Jeffries a million doses will be allocated next week to those 6500 pharmacies, in addition to the doses that are going to go to states, tribes and territories. We will phase up as supply increases. And your fema question, that does not require Congress Acting but a decision that the president is acting and will reimburst states. We go to Caitlin Collins from cnn. Reporter i have two questions for you, one on this rollout, given you just said this is in addition to the 10. 5 million you are sending. Where are these vaccines coming from, the one million you are sending, what allotment is this coming from. And secondly you said you could meet the eligibility guidelines. States are in different phases of distribution. Is the federal government recommend they open up their eligibility so it is the same across the board and therefore a little less confusing for people. Mr. Jeffries thanks for the questions, good questions. The additional one million on top of the 10. 5 is concerned with moderna and pfizer. We are doing what we can to monitor and help to produce vaccines. The increase of 20 that has happened since the beginning of the administration that is going to states, territories and tribes plus this going to pharmacies is the result of scaling up and we hope we can do all we can to continue that scaleup. Your second question was on states. The individual should check their own state policy for eligibility. You will recall that President Biden dl call on states, territories and tribes to move as quickly as possible to make all people 65 and older eligible in their states and more than the states have done so. That is an important population. 80 of the 400 deaths have been in people of over 65 years of age. Zeke miller with ap. And on the president s call to pass legislation, how much quicker would the case of vaccination be with congressional funding and what would be without congressional action . Mr. Jeffries good questions. On the phrma allocation, its allocated the same way we allocate to the states, tribes and territories. However the centers for Disease Control has experience with working with tarm asies is making sure we are picking pharmacies that are harder to reach to ensure we have equitable distribution of the pharmacy doses and across the board. Equity is foundational to everything we do. On the American Rescue plan, we are doing what we can with the resources we have. The faster Congress Acts and the faster we can scale vaccination sites, global units and increase emergency supplies. Given this pandemic, its important that they act as fast as possible to scale our efforts and fight the pandemic as effectively as possible. We have time for a couple of more questions. Is it production that it various by week or what is causing that fluctuation . That is one of the messages we heard loud and clear through the transition that it was hard for states to plan to most effectively vaccinate their population. This morning when i was talking about 10. 5 million doses, that isnt the next week but the next three weeks and allows them to plan and what centers to open. Historically, there have been fluctuations. We are very tuned into not having that fluctuation and guaranteeing minimum levels to the states of doses and we started that last week to 10 million and moved it up to 10. 5 million and important that states know whats coming. And we hope to increase those minimums across time but giving the ability for states to plan accordingly. Thanks for taking my question. Do you have any idea how the weather has impacted on the east coast and impacted the rollout of these doses. On the femarun sites that the president wants to set up, there are in place supporting vaccination sites, are we going to see more from these femarun sites. Good questions. Nirs on the weather, i talked to the general earlier this morning, all vaccine doses have been able to the states on schedule. Unfortunately, as you know, given how this storm has hit some location, some vaccination sites have had to close or limit their hours. In terms of vaccination doses to the states, those have worked in terms of the weather. In terms of vaccination states that have been hard hit by snow, people are being scheduled later in the week. On fema, we have had a. M. Very active first couple of weeks with more than 1. 7 billion going from fema to the states tom support vaccination. Some of these sites were already started and helped with Technical Assistance and resources. There are other sites that are being set up that are being run by the federal government with the help of fema, potentially military personnel, doctors and nurses, et cetera. We are making a lot of progress. We will meet and likely exceed the president s goal having Community Sites up and running by the end of his first month in office. We are utilizing mobile vaccination units to making sure we are reaching hardtoreach communities as a foundational principle of our foundation program. I think that brings us to the end.
