Effort to promote the National Popular vote, rather than the Electoral College. Good morning. Guest good morning. Thank you very much for giving me to time the time to talk about the National Popular vote plan. Host tell us about your organization. What is the mission of National Popular vote . Guest the mission is very simple. The mission is to guarantee that whatever president ial candidate sees the most votes in all 50 states and the district of columbia is elected the president. So, we want the president to be elected by the National Popular vote. States e in all 50 you have the vote in all 50 states and the district of columbia and that is the winter. Home without my constitution and the cspan copy of the constitution. One giveso section state legislatures the exclusive right to decide how to order electoral votes. Today, 48 states have the exact same state law called winner take all. What that means is whoever wins the most votes in that particular state receives all of the electoral votes of that state. But, two states do it maine and nebraska do it by congressional district. Why do they do it . Because the Founding Fathers in the u. S. Constitution gave them the right to make a decision. The question is what is in the best interest of our voters in how we award electoral votes . The second provision that the proposal is based on is interstate compact. A fancy term for agreement among states. Every state in the country interstate compacts with other states. It is simple. It says the following. Instead of rewarding out electoral votes to whoever wins the most votes in our state, we will award our electoral votes to whoever wins the most votes in all 50 states and the district of columbia. The most important part is when would this go into effect . How does that work . Agreement is this goes into effect when enough states pass and joined the compact and we have heard 270er and over again votes. Any candidate who receives 270 electoral votes is guaranteed to become the elected preston. How close are we president s. How close are we to making this change and can this change be in effect for the 2024 election . The answer is yes. As of today, 15 states and the district of columbia half past this proposal. That adds up to 196 electoral votes. For this proposal to go into effect for the 2024 election and have the president elected by the National Popular vote, we more electoral votes. Needen now and 2024, we several additional states to pass this proposal. What is of interest to your viewers is that the voters of the country made it very clear that they want the president elected by the National Popular vote. Mentioned the you National Popular vote or the Electoral College. That is not the situation. The Electoral College is not the problem. The problem is the 48 state laws that are winner take all. . Hat does that create increase battleground states and spectator states. A battleground state is a state where both parties say we can go in there and win it. The entire president ial campaign is conducted only in the battleground states. A spectator state is a state where both parties think it will be reliably democratic or reliably republican. We will not campaign in those states. Lets take a quick look at this 2020 election. 97 of all of the campaign wereities and campaign as in 12 states. 12. When you do the math, that means 38 states in this country did not participate in the president ial election. The voters in this country no between aifference spectator state and battleground state. If you are in a spectator state, you know your vote does not matter because it is predetermined how your state will vote. Only the voters in battleground states decide who is president of the United States. We say we are electing the president of the battleground states. To three or four states. The voters of those states, pennsylvania, nevada, arizona, they are going to decide who is the next president of the United States. It is not the voters of the 50 states. That is what the National Popular vote would change. In order for this to be in place for the next president ial election, so that we never have chaosch this turmoil and that has still not ended as of today, that could all in it by 2024, we go to elect the president by the National Popular vote. The National Popular vote is what the voters of this country want. Everyone a mapow of the states that have already passed and agreed to the National Popular vote legislation. Any particularng state over the next four years where it looks likely that the voters will agree to this . Host the National Popular proposal is active in every state. What is interesting, if you look at the 16 states, we can group them. You have small states like hawaii and delaware and rhode island. You have middle sized states like colorado, connecticut, maryland, massachusetts. Then you have large states, california, illinois and new york read in terms of new york. In terms of what states we are isking to get for 2024, it every state where people feel the president should be elected by the National Popular vote. We need 74 more electoral votes. Vote billal popular successfully passed the Virginia House this year. They have a short session. We will be back next year to pass the bill in the senate and put the bill on the governors desk. That is 11 electoral votes. Instead of needing 74 electoral votes, the number drops to 63. We will be actively working in states across the country. Again, we need to get to 270. We are very close. If the voters in this country want the president of the United States to be elected by the National Popular vote in 2024, we can accomplish that. If a listener or viewer wants the to describe to the first part of a situation that. S extremely troubling first of all for the state of commonwealth of pennsylvania and a number of other states. Broughtwsuits will be starting on monday. The first time it was discovered was here in pennsylvania just a couple of days ago. The people you see behind me are i would say 5060 poll watchers who will all testify that they were uniformly we will wait. That they were deprived of the part to inspect any single of the mailin ballots. As you know from the beginning, those ballots where the source of some degree of skepticism, not a lot if not a lot is being prone to frog fraud. The New York Times written that 10 years ago under different circumstances but then changed their mind once it was a situation involving president trump. Herresswoman jordan and voter of various forms of fraud cited mailin ballots as the most prone to fraud. With all of that you would have expected that the decree of security and high degree of inspection that would be provided for mailin ballots, instead and the wisdom of the officials, Democrat Officials here in the city that has been democrat for 60 years and has a long history of voter fraud, documented history of voter fraud, instead of going to the degree of care to allow inspections of the ballots, there was no inspection of a single mailin ballot
