Good morning. You are saying the goalposts have moved on the stimulus talks . Who has moved the goalposts and where are they moving them to . Look. Im not an attack dog. All im saying is, speaking to , that themnuchin assistance package, the differences between the two teams on the assistance package have narrowed. But it seems like the more it narrows, the more conditions come up on the other side. And that is what we mean by the goalposts. Im not here to be optimistic or pessimistic. I have not taken of you. Factually,ying that the talks continue. They will continue today. The Committee Chairs in both houses our meeting. Small business, appropriations, and so forth. What they call the four corners. Thats ok. Speaker pelosi seemed to strike a note of optimism over the weekend. We have heard that before. Hopefully, she will follow through. I dont know. I dont want to predict. There are still a number of plan that the president cannot accept. There are a number of targeted areas we think would help the economy. Unemployment assistance. You know, we had an executive order from the president on unemployment assistance. That is going to run out. Things . Ot do specific standalone bills, a smaller package, helping Small Businesses with the unspent money. Unemployment assistance. Airline assistance everybody agrees we need. School assistance and covid production. We dont need a gigantic bill with a lot of areas. This is the issue. They have nothing to do with covid or the economy. We can fight that over the election in a week or afterwards. Im not a thing disrespecting ideas from the other team. Im just saying that we dont need to do that right now. Thatere are the main areas the democrats refused to give up . To i dontted want to go too deep on the negotiations. I will just say that the president argued that state and local spending provisions from the other team are too large. About thoseoncerned states and localities and including the government pension fund. There are issues regarding immigration. There are issues regarding Health Care Assistance to illegal immigrants. Things that our team does not agree with. Those are just some of the issues. The odd thing is when i say agreementw there is on repurchasing 135 billion of unspent money for Small Businesses. There is agreement on both sides. Why not just go on ahead and do it . There is agreement that we could use an extension of unemployment assistance. Why not go ahead and do it . That is all we are saying. There is agreement the Airlines Need help. Why not go ahead and do it . Things like that. Helping schools. The other stuff can be fought out. Political election on and ideological priorities. I am not disrespecting those priorities. I dont happen to agree with them. Whatever. We just dont have to do it now. Thats all i would say. Very important question. , to bet here to rule out optimistic, or pessimistic. Im just saying, here are the facts. Here is what i can tell you. I am not here to negotiate. Im not here to take sides or make a book on it. Im just saying where we are. Treasury secretary mnuchin will be on the phone today. I think he wants reports from the Committee Chairs that have been discussing various issues. I think he will speak to speaker pelosi. And he may have additional information. On election day, what do you think the final [inaudible] will we get a little bit more data . We are going to get a very strong gdp number thursday. Very strong. Much stronger than most people would have thought. And theres a lot of momentum going into the fourth quarter. The vshaped recovery, the forecast looks like it is coming true. It is nice to get one right. Housing, consumer spending, retail sales, auto sales, they are booming. Consumer confidence, Small Business confidence. Heres one. New Business Applications for Startup Companies are booming. Speak, inventories have been depleted. We need to rebuild inventories to meet the various new demand. And that really gives you momentum for quite some time. A million person drop in continuing claims last day. That is a very good sign of a continued strengthening employment. I am concerned still because i think the employment story is moving a little slower than the rest of the economy. We want to get them back to work and protect those Unemployed People while they are getting back to work. Targetswhy one of our was unemployment assistance. I think the economy is strong. I really do. Larry, these coronavirus outbreaks we have had in the ,hite house and the rose garden it creates a larger question of whether the white house can help the whole country if it cant contain the problem inside the white house complex. To ahat ever translated confidence problem for the economy . Larry i do think thats fair, some people have tested positive. They have done very well led by the president who recovered very quickly. It is a small percentage of the population inside the white house. Thought. Ave you this intensely around the country with all the governors, mayors, and local officials on a daily basis, ambassador burks and her teams, working to develop and continue the mitigation efforts in order to control the virus. We stick by the guidelines that were published many months ago on masking, distancing, testing, and hygiene. Isnow ambassador birx concerned about family gatherings more than before. Crowds in some of these places. The mitigations have worked. And this is a difficult thing, not just for the white house. It is a difficult thing for the entire country. It just is. It is a tough, infectious virus. But we are doing what we can. We observe these guidelines here and we encourage people to do it everywhere. Ppe, weve done a good job there. I know we have critics, but for heaven sake, look what we have done in five months or so. And the scientists are saying, mr. Faucher and others, that the vaccine is coming along, maybe by yearend. Therapies are coming along. They are increasingly available. We hope and pray we get them as soon as we can. We are doing the best we absolutely can. It is a nationwide issue and a global issue.
