The president and the first lady tested positive for covid19. This is about 15 minutes from the walter reed medical center. Good morning. I am dr. Sean conley, physician to the present. I would like to start by First Showing that the president and first family, first lady, rightful for the support and prayers that the whole world and country have been providing. I would like to say thank you to the colonel and all of the medical support staff here for their efforts providing everything that we could need. This morning the president is doing very well. Behind me are some of the members of his medical team whom i would like to introduce. Dr. Sean dooley, pulmonary critical care, dr. Brian care baldy, pulmonary critical care, dr. Jason blalock, dr. Wes campbell, dr. John hutchins, major kirk klein, commander megan nazrathi, linden commander john shea, and not present our beth carter, maureen a, both navy nurses and art director of executive medicine program. As reported yesterday in consultation with this group, i recommended we bring the president up to walter reed as a precautionary measure to provide stateoftheart monitoring and any care he may need. 72 hours into his diagnosis now, the first week of covid, and particular this day is the most critical in determining the course of this illness. The team and i are happy with the progress that he has made. Thursday he had a mild cough and some nasal congestion and fatigue, which are now resolving. I would like to bring up dr. Dooley to discuss some of the specifics of the care. Dr. Dooley thank you. Good afternoon. I would like to mention what an incredible, how proud i am of this team assembled behind me and the honor that has been to care for the president here at walter reed. He is receiving standing Multidisciplinary Care for coronavirus infection. We are monitoring him closely for any evidence of complications firm from either the virus illness or the therapies that we are prescribing. We have monitored his cardiac function, his kidney and lower functions and all of those are normal. The present is not on oxygen, not having any difficulty breathing or Walking Around the white house unit upstairs. He is in good spirits. As we completing rounds this morning, the quote he left us with was i feel like i could walk out of here today. That was very encouraging from him. I will introduce dr. Garabaldi who will talk about the plan of care for today. Thank you. I would like to echo the sentiment about the honor that it is to be a part of this unit to care for the president. About 48 hours ago the president received a special antibody therapy and we are working closely with the company to monitor him in terms of that outcome. Yesterday evening he received his first dose of iv remdesivir our plan is to continue a fiveday course. The plan for today since he is doing well is to encourage him to eat and drink and stay hydrated and be up out of bed and working and doing the things that he needs to do to get well. Dr. Conley the president has been fever free for over 24 hours. We remain cautiously optimistic, but he is doing great. One other note, it should be clear that he has plenty of work to get done from the chief of staff. He is doing it. If there are questions about his health in the last couple of days . The last saturation he had, he was about 96 . He is not on oxygen right now. Do you have an estimated date of discharge . He is doing well, but with the known course of the illness, from day seven to 10 we get really concerned about the inflammatory phase. Given the fact that he has received these there fees, it is hard to tell where he is on that course. Every day we are evaluating if he needs to be here and what does he need and where is he going. Is there a probability that he will need supplemental oxygen Going Forward . Dr. Conley right now all indicators are that he will remain off oxygen Going Forward. In terms of blood clots or pneumonia, what is the risk on that front . Dr. Conley all of them are risks associated with this condition. He is receiving all of the standard of care and beyond for routine International Covid protocols. We are monitoring for all of that, but there is no cause for concern. What was his fever when he had one . Dr. Conley i would rather not give any specifics, but he did have a fever thursday into friday. Since friday morning he has had none. Why remdesivir on top of the antibodies . Dr. Conley remdesivir works differently than the antibodies. We are maximizing all aspects of his care, attacking the virus in a multipronged approach. I did not want to hold anything back if there was any possibility that it would add value to his care and expert at his return, i wanted to take it. The team agreed. What was the date of his last negative test . Dr. Conley i will not get into the testing going back, but he and all his staff routinely are tested. What is the protocol for the president receiving remdesivir . Dr. Conley the same as any hospital has. We have an area that is clean that you put your equipment on and then beyond that everybody is fully gowned up with masks and gloves and protecting ourselves and him. Has there been any sign of lung damage . Dr. Conley we do daily ultrasounds and lab work and we are checking all of that. I will not go into specifics of the findings. Has he ever been on supplemental oxygen . You keep saying right now, but should we reach into the message that dr. Conley he has not been on oxygen. He is not on oxygen right now. Has he experienced any difficulty breathing . Dr. Conley he never did pretty has had a cough and a fever. Than anything, he has felt run down. The white house medical unit in collaboration with the cdc and local Health Departments are conducting all contact tracing. [indiscernible] dr. Conley thursday afternoon following the news of close contact is when we repeated testing and were given indications that were of concern. Late that night is when we got the pcr confirmation that he was is there clarity on how he became infected . Dr. Conley i am not going into that. It is irrelevant as far as his care. Or when he became infected . Dr. Conley we are just treating him as best we can. [indiscernible] we have discussed that, and if he needs all five days that will likely be the course. Again every day we are reviewing with the team his needs for being here, and as soon as he gets to the point where it is not required, he may still need some care, but if they can provide that downtown, then we will transition at that point as long as it is safe in the team agrees. In addition to his weight, does he have risk factors that makes him more at risk for a severe case . Dr. Conley not particularly, he is 74 and he is slightly overweight that other than that he is healthy. His Blood Pressure is great. He is not on medication for that. He is up and active. He has been able to handle it. Can you provide his heart rate, Blood Pressure and temperature . Dr. Conley his heart rate is in the 70s to the 80s. His Blood Pressure has remained where it has historically been during the physicals, it has never budged. We have no concerns there. Why was the decision made to transfer them here . Dr. Conley because he is the president of the united states. [indiscernible] dr. Conley he has been briefed by the task force and all of the scientists for months and he brought that up. We were discussing his cough, and we came up here and discussed it with the team. We considered all options. Why wasnt the first lady admitted as well . Dr. Conley she has no indications for hospitalization or advanced therapy. She is convalescing at home. Dr. Conley thursday, no oxygen, not at this moment and yesterday , when we were all here, he was not on oxygen. Has the president been admitted as a patient to this hospital . Dr. Conley he is a patient at walter reed hospital. Thank you. While summarizing the president s health, i incorrectly used 72 hours instead of day three. The doctor goes on to say, the president was first diagnosed with covid19 on the evening of thursday, october 1 and had the antibody cocktail on friday, october 2. The white house did not release a weekly address this weekend. Representative eric kilmer of
