Good morning, everyone. Thank you for coming. Dr. Sean conley, physician to the president. This morning, i would like to start by first assuring that the president and first family, first lady are extremely grateful, the enormous outpouring of support and prayers that the whole world and country have been providing and sharing. I would like to thank colonel andrew bar and all the medical support staff here at walter reed for their tireless efforts, providing anything and everything to the medical team, the president or i could need. This morning, the president is doing very well. Behind me are some of the members of the president s medical team, who i would like to introduce. Dr. Sean dooley, pulmonary critical care. Pova, enant giuliana lo navy nurse, clinical pharmacist, are navyith us nurses and the director of our executive medicine program. As reported yesterday, consultation with this group, i recommended we bring the president up to walter reed as a precautionary measure, to provide stateoftheart monitoring and any care that he may need. Just 72 hours into his diagnosis now, the first week of covid in a particular day, seven are of 10 the most critical. At this time, the team and i are extremely happy with the progress the president has made. Thursday, he had a mild cough with some nasal congestion and fatigue, all of which are now resolving and improving. At this time, i would like to bring up dr. Dooley to discuss some of the specifics of the president s care. Thank you and good afternoon. Dr. Sean dooley, as dr. Conley mentioned. I will start out by mentioning how incredibly proud i am of our medical team assembled behind me , and the honor it has been to care for the president over these past when he four hours here at walter reed. He is receiving outstanding ,ultidisciplinary care stateoftheart science for coronavirus infection. We are monitoring him closely for any evidence of complication , either from the coronavirus illnesscoronavirus or the therapies we are prescribing to make him better. We have monitored his cardiac function, his kidney function, his liver function all of those are normal, and the president this morning is not on oxygen, not having difficulty breathing or Walking Around the white house medical unit upstairs. He is an exceptionally good spirits, and as we were completing our multidisciplinary rounds this morning, the quote he left us with was i feel like i could walk out of here today, which was an encouraging comment from the president. I will introduce dr. Garibaldi, who will talk about some of our care a few tics therapeutics and are plan for today. The would like to echo sentiment from the entire team, what an honor and privilege it is to care for the president. 48 hours ago, the president received a special antibody therapy directed against the coronavirus, and we are working with the companies to monitor him in terms of that outcome. Yesterday evening he received his first dose of remdesivir, and our plan is to continue a five day treatment plan for remdesivir. The big plan for today, since he is in such great spirits and doing well, is to encourage him to eat, to drink, to stay hydrated, to be up and out of bed, and to be doing the things he needs to do to get well. I will refer to dr. Conley if there are any questions. Dr. Conley thanks, brian. President has been feverfree for over 24 hours. We remain cautiously optimistic, but he is doing great. One other note, it should be clear that he has plenty of work to get done from the chief of staff. He is doing it. If there are questions about his health in the last couple of days . [inaudible] the last saturation he had, he was about 96 . He has not received any oxygen . Dr. Conley he is not on oxygen, that is right. Do you have an estimated date when he might be discharged . Dr. Conley well, i do not want to put a hard date on that. He is doing well, but with the known course of the illness, from day seven to 10 we get really concerned about the inflammatory phase. Given the fact that he has received the advanced therapies earlier, it is hard to tell where he is on that course. Every day we are evaluating if he needs to be here and what does he need and where is he going. Is there a probability that he will need supplemental oxygen Going Forward . Dr. Conley i do not want to put a percentage on that, but right now, all indicators are that he will remain off oxygen Going Forward. In terms of blood clots or pneumonia, bacterial infection, what is the risk on that front . Dr. Conley all of them are risks associated with this condition. He is receiving all of the standard of care and beyond for routine International Covid protocols. We are monitoring for all of that, but there is no cause for concern. You said he is feverfree now. What was his fever when he had one, sir . Dr. Conley i would rather not give any specific numbers, but he did have a fever thursday into friday. Since friday morning, he has had none. Why remdesivir on top of the antibodies . Dr. Conley im sorry . Why remdesivir on top of the antibodies . Dr. Conley remdesivir works differently than the antibodies. We are maximizing all aspects of his care, attacking the virus in a multipronged approach. I did not want to hold anything back if there was any possibility that it would add value to his care and expert at expedite his return, i wanted to take it. The team agreed. Doctor, what was the date of his last negative test . Dr. Conley i will not get into the testing going back, but he and all his staff routinely are tested. Doctor, what is the protocol for the president receiving visitors and doctors . Dr. Conley it is the same as any hospital has. We have an area that is clean, that you put your equipment on, and then beyond that, everybody is fully gowned up with masks and gloves and protecting ourselves and him. Has there been any sign of any lung damage whatsoever . We are following all of that. Dr. Conley we do daily ultrasounds and lab work, and the team is checking all of that. I will not go into specifics of the findings. Has he ever been on supplemental oxygen . Dr. Conley right now, he is not on i know you keep saying that, but should we read into the message that dr. Conley he has not been on oxygen. He is not on oxygen right now. [inaudible] dean shaw he is not on oxygen right now. Has he experienced any difficulty breathing . Dr. Conley he never did. Hey has had a cough and a fever. More than anything, he has felt run down. The white house medical unit in collaboration with the cdc and local Health Departments are conducting all contact tracing. You said 72 hours, that would be wednesday. Dr. Conley so thursday afternoon, following the news of close contact, is when we repeated testing and were given clinical indications that were a little bit more of a concern. Late that night is when we got the pcr confirmation that he was is there clarity on how he became infected . Dr. Conley i am not going into that. As far as his care, it is irrelevant. Or when he became infected . Dr. Conley we are not going to go into that. We are just treating him as best we can. [inaudible] dr. Conley we have discussed that, right now, and if he needs all five days, that will likely be the course. Again, every day, we are reviewing with the team his needs for being here, and as soon as he gets to the point where it is not a requirement, he may still need some care, but if they can provide that downtown, then we will transition at that point, as long as it is safe and the team agrees. In addition to his weight, does he have risk factors that makes him more at risk for a severe case . Dr. Conley not particularly. He is 74, he is male, and he is slightly overweight. Other than that, he is healthy. His cholesterol is great. His Blood Pressure is great. He is not on medication for that. He is up and active. His activity, the days leading up to, he has been able to handle it. Can you provide his vitals, like heart rate, Blood Pressure, and temperature . Dr. Conley his heart rate is in the 70s to the 80s. His Blood Pressure has remained where it has historically been during our physicals, you know, 110 to 120. It has never budged. We have no concerns there. Why was the decision made to transfer him here . Dr. Conley because he is the president of the united states. [inaudible] dr. Conley he did, actually. He has been briefed by the task force and all of the scientists for months and he brought that up. We were discussing his cough, and we came up here and discussed it with the team. We considered all options. But he has not needed any of that. Why wasnt the first lady admitted as well . Dr. Conley the first lady is doing great. Thanks for asking. She has no indications for hospitalization or advanced therapy. She is convalescing at home. Thank you. I have to try to ask you one more time [laughter] he is not on oxygen, but was the on any on thursday . Dr. Conley what is today . Saturday. Thursday, no oxygen, not at this moment and yesterday, when we were all here, he was not on oxygen. Sir, has the president actually been admitted as a patient to this hospital . Dr. Conley the president is a patient at Walter Reed National military medical center. Is he on any steroids . Dr. Conley thank you. Thank you. After briefing reporters at walter reed medical center, the president s physician released a clarification on the timeline, saying in part while summarizing the president s health, i incorrectly used the term 72 hours instead of day three, with regards to his diagnosis. The president was first diagnosed with covid19 on the evening of thursday, october 1, and had received regenerons antibody cocktail on friday, october 2. The spans washington journal.
