Doing a fantastic job for the state of texas and he has from day one. And Lieutenant Governor dan patrick, another friend of mine, inc. You, dan. Thank you, dan. State attorney general ken paxton. A very aggressive attorney general, thats what we like. Youve got some very big ones, including mailin ballots, right . Unsolicited, i call them, unsolicited mailin ballots where people are sitting at home and they get hit mailin ballots all over the place. I hope you will be successful. I think it is a very important case not only here for the but the entire country. I think there are 18 of those cases throughout the country. In pennsylvania and North Carolina we have a lot of them. Thank you very much. A man who has been there when we need him and has been incredible for texas and in my friend, ted cruz. Thank you. We have spent a lot of time before and we are working to get texas everything they need. And sman brian babb babbin, a warrior and terrific guy. And where is randy . Randy weber, congressman. Thank you very much. A couple of people who have been friends of mine, i wont mention them too much, but they got a shot of the covid and i understand they will be perfect, absolutely fine. I want to say hello to becky ames, you are doing good, right . Where you hit hard . Not as hard as we could have been. We are recovering and appreciate you being here, mr. President. Pres. Trump thank you very much, i hear you are doing a great job we were talking before and it couldve been much worse. Louisiana took a hard hit, but it couldve been a recordsetting hit. 175. 150 Miles Per Hour when it hit but even worse than that. It came quickly, it came very quickly i guess you would say they were looking at that as a storm and all of a sudden the storm became a monster. 185 andfrom a storm to 175 Miles Per Hour and when it hit i think they say it was the strongest they have had in louisiana and texas in 150 years. But the path was lucky, you got a little lucky. I also want to introduce chad wolf, we just took the acting away from his name, you are doing a fantastic job with homeland security. Hopefully ted will be pushing that hard. Hes done a fantastic job. He will do it come all right. He will do it, all right. The fema administrator who has been doing this with me for a long time. We havent had a loss yet, a loser. We do it good and fast and get you back up and everything i think has been signed and you are ready to go. I will dispense with all of the different numbers you know justthey are, wed sort of did it, we went through louisiana. We went through a couple of areas and ive never seen anything quite like it, trees ripped out from the roots, pine trees broken in half. You just dont see that kind of power. We went through something pretty bad and i dont think you got anything like that, that is good. We took the Emergency Declaration and gave it to the governor immediately. Dan called about it also and i appreciate that call, and tweeted to him. A onetwo punch. Sending 1000 liters of water and 250,000 meals already. We have worked with the private sector to restore power to the remaining 200,000 residents. They think power will be restored in good order, i believe so. And the other things weve been doing, the infrastructure, all of the elements weve been working on, and we are working close with ted cruz and john cornyn, who i hear he is doing very well, a great senator doing a fantastic job. Weve been working with the governor, with dan, and i think maybe it would be good if you tell us how are we doing and how can we help you . First, thank you for the way you have stepped up. People dont know this, but midnight as the storm was crossing the shoreline, you that was 1 00 a. M. Your time, and we spoke again the morning after it happened. You have been there for us every step of the way, helping us. Never have i seen such a Swift Response or request as weve received from administrator gaynor. We cannot thank you enough. I call him and its like he knows in advance i will be calling him and he just says yes immediately. Of all of the storms i have been through, which have been a lot, i have never received a swifter response from the administration. On behalf of everybody in this room and across texas, want to say thank you. I want to thank the local officials. The county we are in right now, we appreciate you and your leadership. The members of congress and mayors of the region, we appreciate what you do. If i could share some details, i know you have the details just real quick. In 62 countieser declared disaster in 62 counties. On behalf of those 62 counties, well say thank you, mr. President , for that. Right now our areas of focus our power, water, distribution, safe return of evacuees and damage assessment. On power and water restoration, peak Power Outages exceeded 350,000 locations across 35 counties. Current outages as of 9 00 a. M. This morning are about 120,000 locations in 23 counties, meaning Emergency Repair crews have quickly restored more than 250 i mean 230 of those power outage incidents. For Drinking Water assessments, 111 of 171 Drinking Water assessments have been completed. 26 systems are under boil water notice. In addition, we have 19 points of distribution set up in the impacted region providing things res. Water, ice, m there were over 10,000 evacuees in shelters in the state and approximately 3300 hotel rooms. , we arehelter residents tracking more than 2200 shelter residents who are from louisiana. It is important that more than 10,000 of the evacuees were in hotel rooms typically. That is important because we had to respond to hurricane laura while also responding to covid19 and the best setting for an evacuee from hurricane is not in a large congregate setting but in separate settings to prevent the spread of covid19. We succeeded in getting through hurricane hanna without the spread of covid19 and i believe we will succeed in getting through hurricane laura without spreading covid19. Residents were returned on 43 buses with more scheduled for today and 160 state buses are ready to assist the ongoing repopulation efforts. That is about it. We continue to assess damages throughout the region. We are on top of this because of the swift and effective leadership of our chief. Better capable and swifter in responding to this hurricane because of the way you and your administration so swiftly stepped up and help the people of texas. Pres. Trump thank you very much, you are doing a great job. You say covid19, many different names, at least 20 different names, right . You call it covid19 and that is ok with me. [laughter] generally i call it something else. But you did very well and it is coming down rapidly and so is florida and arizona has been incredible, down to its lowest numbers. It is really doing well. Withe what you are doing respect to keeping people separated during this problem with the hurricane. Great job, really great job. Thank you, greg. Ted, please . We appreciate you being in texas again and let me Say Something i just told the fema administrator a few minutes ago, which is that the consistent report of gun from the governor and local officials, state officials is responsiveness of the administration throughout the hurricane has been extraordinary. In many ways, we had a blessing with this hurricane, it couldve been much worse. There was significant damage from this hurricane compared to what we have seen in the past, texas could have gotten hit much worse. We grieve that our neighbors in louisiana took the brunt of the storm. Just as louisiana stepped up and helped texas a particular with Hurricane Harvey but other hurricanes as well, we are now stepping up to help louisiana. One of the things that is really impressive also is the level of coordination. Mayor ames and i were laughing about how weve got an inadvertent and unfortunate expertise right now and that texas has been through major, major disasters. What we see consistently is a degree of interaction between the city officials, county officials, state officials, federal officials, where you dont get bickering, you dont you get jockeying, everybody working together. As these disasters have come, you have reached out repeatedly and i still remember talking to you when Hurricane Harvey was in pasoulf and i was in el and you said and then and it was the case then and is the case now, you said everything texas needs, the federal Government Resources will be there. Thank you for that leadership. It is important and a testament here to the strength and expertise of the texans at this table working with the federal government that we minimized the damage as much as possible with a very dangerous storm. Pres. Trump thank you. Dan, please. Senates in the state when ike hit. The difference in your response personally and the response of administration and fema they were a one and you are attend. The fact that you call the governor at 1 00 your time pres. Trump i knew he would be up. [laughter] night and day. We went years where we were not paid by the former administration for our counties and cities. Pres. Trump i know. Covid, our, on highest point in the hospital was over 10000 and july and we are now under 4800. 60 , in manylmost hospitals, 70 . The governors leadership and we really turned that corner. Ande were here two days ago the judge said we were not hit as hard as other areas, so whatever we have. We respect the cajun navy that came for us, we dont have a name for our volunteers, but ive seen on all of the newscasts, thousands of texans have gone to louisiana and that is the spirit of america. We want toyou said help everyone else, so thank you, mr. President. You have been here so money times for us. Pres. Trump thank you, i appreciate it. En, please i did not grow up in texas but one of the things i love is we get things done. Have you, you truly [indiscernible] this governor has been exceptional and dealing with disasters [indiscernible] thats all i wanted to say is thank you. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Brian . Thank you for being here mr. President. It is an honor to have you in our district and i cant thank you and your administration enough for the rapid response. We are still cleaning up after imelda and harvey and other storms that have hit us and your administration has been on the money. He is not here today, but i want to brag a little bit on a mayor who is not here. Larry spears. He has done a tremendous job. I am a former mayor myself so i appreciate mayor spears and what he does. Mr. President , your administration we are not supposed to get political here and i realize that, but it has been like night and day from what we have seen in the past. Pres. Trump thank you very much appreciated very much. Appreciate it. Also for chad wolf, i met your daddy yesterday. Did you grow up in orange at all . I grew up north of dallas. Thats right, he told me that. [indiscernible] [laughter] pres. Trump you are checking him out, right . Very good. [laughter] [indiscernible] he is doing a great job, thank you very much. Randy . Thank you, mr. President for being here. I am probably the oldest guy in the room and that i grew up on the gulf coast and never left and i probably been through more hurricanes than anybody here, starting in 1961 with hurricane carla. I was going into the texas house when ike hit and ive never seen this kind of responsiveness from the government. Your a tenement to leadership. So thank you, thank you. Our state leaders, our governor, Lieutenant Governor, i can go down the list, and you have done everything you said you would do. My district love you and we appreciate you. Pres. Trump thank you, youre doing a great job. Chief, please. Thank you. I want to thank the local officials. To mandate an evacuation is a courageous decision to make, and the mayor, that save lives. Ordersk the evacuation seriously, so thank you for doing that. Governor and state leaders, thank you for giving us the authority to do good work. Our regional administrator to secretary wilkie, thank you for dedicated leadership and weve secretary wolf, thank you for your dedicated leadership. Weve never had this festive disaster response. Pres. Trump a great state and weve got to take care of the people of texas, thats all there is to it. Thank you, mr. President , i echo everything thats been said here. In 2007, we had umberto and ike. We had 26 federal declarations since 1953 and 19 have been since i was elected mayor. Ive gotten to know all of the people at this table very well in the local officials work closely together. Our senate and congress have been unbelievable and i thank you for coming, it means a lot to us and the people who live here to see that our president would take the time to say hello to us. Pres. Trump thank you, you are doing a great job. Judge, i want to thank you very much. The job you do is incredible and i can see the passion you have for it. It is great and we appreciate it. Thank you, it is fantastic. I cannot tell you how much we appreciate you coming. The governor has been here multiple times and everybody involved, we have a great andern for our Community Texas and louisiana, and we will do what we can to help them. A couple of people for sure, chief thank you, the response you and the Governors Office have had, from covid to this. Ive been in office for years and this is disaster number six for me. We are getting good at something we dont want to be good at, but we will get it taken care of. One of the biggest things we are getting ourow is energy and power backup and we have someone in the building today who is the president and ceo of entergy texas. And are here in force getting the power restored as soon as possible so that citizens on their way home can get power as soon as possible to get back to repairing their home. Sony people do so much for texas. One of the big projects we have weve been working with army corps of engineers, and everybody is involved, the coastal spine levy projects. Pres. Trump how is that going . Is made huge progress in the last three weeks. The land office helped arch county fund the share of it and we are able to move forward and we are moving to continue that and deal with that. Pres. Trump do you think it will work . It will be the army corps that will be building our wall. They are doing a good job, 10 miles a day, it is going good. How is that working . The wall . Pres. Trump no, the levy. In orange, we are excited and we are moving forward with about 45 miles of different types of wall. Pres. Trump it will stop the water from pouring in . We are confident it will. Butonly in orange shreveport, those communities have walls and we will continue to develop and improve those walls and collectively those three projects will improve the protection of over 100,000 residents of this community. Energy sector. Al pres. Trump what is your timing on that . We are starting right now with orange and we are looking in all three of those products between 2025 and 2027. The judge is a great partner in this and we are doing this with the local community and state. This is a partnership from top to bottom to develop something that not only will withstand storms but allow the community to take care of these projects in the future. Pres. Trump what do you think the cost will be . Right now with the bipartisan budget act, we got 4 billion to move these three projects forward. We have that funding in hand and are moving forward. Also as part of that act, we received additional funds to study the remainder of the gold coast. We have a study we will of the gulf coast. We have a study we will be working on looking at houston and galveston. Pres. Trump is that part of the original approval . Sir, that is part of the we got the bipartisan budget act, the study was part of that. Pres. Trump ok. You know the governor called me and said can you do me one more favor . I said how much, governor . [laughter] he said not much, 10 billion. I said 10 billion. He said that would really do something with respect to this tremendous flooding any we have a hurricane. Phase one is what we are talking about. You can do something also taking care of the houston area. Directed 3. 8as billion dollars with strong bipartisan support. That getting construction on the coast but also studying continued expansion to complete it and a lot of families and homes and businesses and Energy Infrastructure is along the gulf coast. Pres. Trump and it will work, right . We are not going to build it and it fails . It is a big project, but it will work, right . Yes. [indiscernible] pres. Trump youve done a fantastic job. You have anything to say . I appreciate you being here. Our community appreciated appreciates it. I also want to think the judge somebody we didnt mention, our management coordinator. Theyve done an outstanding job and we appreciate the work they have done. I want to thank everyone in the room that has helped us in the community. Thank you very much. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Greg . One thing texans have shown, whether it be harvey or these other storms you have heard, they have been through it and it shows the resilience and perseverance texans have but we are made Even Stronger by the swift and profound and effective support we get from leaders in washington, d. C. You are the builder president , youre helping to build that coastal spine that will protect texas and right now youre helping texas rebuild in the aftermath of this hurricane and we say thank you. Pres. Trump thank you very much. Any questions for the governor, senator or anybody . Statusrnor, what is the and Galveston Bay with the refineries and chemical plants . If you could just share an update on the economic and environmental impact. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality continues to monitor those with regard to air quality and water quality. They have multiple units engaged to make sure they will be able to adequately go to the impacted areas and do the monitoring and make sure that if there is any type of environmental situation, it will be swiftly contained. Pres. Trump anybody else . I have a question, this is obviously an important trip to visit these communities. You plan to visit kenosha, wisconsin, a community and pain . Pres. Trump probably so. Weve had tremendous success, as you know. We were finally able to get the goahead from local authorities to send in the National Guard and we sent in the National Guard and within a few minutes of the guard, everybody cleared out and it became safe. That was three days ago and weve had absolutely no problem. We sent in 1000 National Guard and that is not even a big force. We could fix portland and i would say 45 minutes. The people in portland should protest because the mayor doesnt know what he is doing he doesnt have a clue, he doesnt have a clue. This is been going on for years in portland and it has now been going on 94 days. Or they wouldall, ask, the governor would ask, we guard ine the national their in a short time in there in a short time it would be cleaned out in a metal of minutes and they would have a safe portland. Kenosha, it has been in very good shape from the moment they set foot in that area. The sheriff has been great, the police commissioner, the police chief has been great. Weve been working with all of them. The governor let us do what we had to do and we cleaned it out and we will see what happens. We have to keep it going. But we wont have any problem. Yesterday you did comment on the killing of jacob blake and said you did not like how it looked. I wondered if you could comment on the other shooting that took place in that community. You mentioned the National Guard going in, but this was a young man, a 17yearold facing murder charges for having shot two people. Said, olks have conservatives are holding up this young man as having done so within his rights to self protect. Im wondering if you have read much about this case or have concerns about ordinary residents with guns in situations like this and what dangers that might present. Pres. Trump that is under investigation right now and they will be reporting back to me over the next 24 hours, 40 eight hours may be max, and we will have a comment about it. Right now, we are looking at it very carefully. It is aare doing great state, wisconsin, a great state, and they should not have to put up with what they went through. The national job the National Guard has done a fantastic job. Dni no longer going to be updating the house and senate on Election Security issues . Pres. Trump mark . [indiscernible] has been giving briefings and he will ultimately give full briefings in terms of not oral briefings, but full intel briefings. It comes down to a simple thing, the last time they gave briefings, a few members talked to the press and disclosed information they were not supposed to disclose and he will make sure there are proper tools for oversight and make sure they contain it in a way that does not jeopardize sources and methods for the intel we get. Pres. Trump director radcliffe brought information into the committee and the information leaked. Ciffher it was shifty sh schiff or someone else. You have leakers on the committee who are doing bad things. We will look into that separately. They were leaking the information as it was brought in. You dont have that in texas, you would not allow that in texas. No way. Pres. Trump ken will not allow the leakers to be doing that. He wanted to make sure it doesnt leak. One question about laura. In june of this year, noaa release a report that Climate Change is in part responsible for increasing sea temperatures that is in part responsible for hurricanes like harvey. Witho you balance that Climate Change and storms that continue to ravage the gold coast . Pres. Trump youve had tremendous storms in texas for many decades in many centuries and that way it is. We handle them as they come, all i can do is handle them as they come and nobody has done a better job of it. We love the people of texas, and governor, it is an honor to be with you.
