They seem to be saying a pandemic was a terrible tragedy, it is was it is as if the president had nothing to do with it. That is hard for any rational person to accept. , the president would secretsed because of the nature of the event, this was happening gradually over six months. The president was remiss. For anyone to say he gets a pass because this gradual disaster that he didnt handle is an act of god is absurd on its face. Beforenomy on the day the pandemic began to harm us, why . He is responsible for the damage to the economy and to the public health. Arecurious to see if they serious about making the argument on those terms. Its an untenable position. Linda is also supporting joe biden. Good morning. Caller good morning. Trump in the beginning, when the virus started, he was telling people it was a hoax. Filed bankruptcy six times. Inn he and barack obama came in 2009, the economy was crashing all around. Built thisck obama economy and trump took advantage of it, took credit for it as he does everything. Everything he has is something somebody gave him. His father gave him money. Casino . Bankrupt a trump did. I have no faith in him. Host lets hear from ray who is going to support the president. Its your turn. He has survived and environment that is meant to destroy hardworking people. If what im saying i dont have a computer. Why . It was stolen from me a while ago. Republicans dont believe in government. They have proven it. Im 73. Ive watched this go on for half a century. Anyone who think the republican doing anything other than feathering its own nest, they should go back to running a car dealership. That was gregory in california. You mightve seen on our list of speakers put together by the new conway is kellyanne speaking wednesday at the convention. Ory must not know history have done must research. I cant fathom people thinking that obama and biden were great with the economy. I will Say Something critical. I dont like the quantity of emails i received from his campaign. I did and Online Survey on facebook. You had to submit your email address. I am sorry i did that. I am getting blasted with emails from the campaign. Please send less emails and i have gotten more. Im not crazy about that. Host what are they asking for . Caller i dont read them. Mym just going to be saying, biggest thing is, where we are at now, are we better now than where we were four years ago . The Biggest Issue is, will we be better in the next four years under a President Trump . I dont think so. The first 100 days of President Trump were the longest days of my life because of all the controversy and problems we had. These last four years have extended the problems. , thinkingi wake up about what other problems this man will have. That is why i am voting for biden. Host the former Vice President and his running mate have scheduled what the Washington Post because counter programming this week. Democrats are prepared to release videos each day highlighting what they view as trumps biggest failures and showing the stark contrast between joe biden. Including nancy pelosi, cory booker, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer will speak each day. The Democratic Party also released some new ads in some battleground states yesterday. Here is the former Vice President criticizing president ofmp, his call for a boycott goodyear tall years. The president is calling for a boycott of an american company. Goodyear makes its home in akron, ohio. I would be in favor if people dont want to buy. Workersands of american and competitors all over the world. And a sitting president who is spinning out of control would risk american jobs try to save his own. Im joe biden. I approve this message. Host the former Vice President s latest ad. Brett in searchlight, nevada, supporting the president. Tell us why. Caller it goes back to when President Trump put the ban on china. The democrats called him a racist, bigot, and xenophobe. Coronavirus would have triple numbers of deaths and cases because democrats wanted to leave flights open. Supposedlye concerned about the American Peoples health, which i dont see when you go to pass a 25 billion bill for the postal whoice when we have people do not collect their unemployment insurance, extra money for that. I am on Social Security, i dont get any extra money. I just support him because i believe his policies are right and he has the right people working for him. Hand inin took trumps that office and on that communist casting couch and all of the photographers were out, everyone knows went on in that room david it is said. Bff does not stand for best friends. Host ok, we got it. New york. Independent. Roger, which way are you leaning at this point . Caller probably toward biden. That is kind of a big stretch havee, as far as what i seen so far. It is an utter disaster the way this president has handled this pandemic. Lets face it, we are the laughing stock of the world. I cannot wait to see the excuses come out this week as we roll through these speeches. Noem from south dakota, she is something special. I dont believe biden either. Times drag joe biden along. He does not drag the times along with him. There has to be other people out there in this country like me that are completely adrift. You have a megalomaniac in charge, and then something that has no response to it in biden. I dont know where to go from here. 300,000 to move to ireland. Some of us just want to give up with this. I really dont understand where somebody like me who is in the middle goes payment host roger began his comments talking about the pandemic. Nancy pelosi has been negotiating with the white house over economic aid in response to the pandemic. Still at a stalemate. Here is what she had to say yesterday talking about negotiations. Today marks the 100th day since we passed heroes act, to support our healthcare care workers, teachers, first responders, our transportation, sanitation, food workers, and the white house says to us, why should one state help another state that may have needs . We welcome them to the United States of america. Crush a Strategic Plan to the virus, which they have ignored, since we passed our bill. Over 4 Million People have been added to the infection list used. Se they pa over 80,000 more people have died because they paused. Could we have saved all of those lives and diagnoses . Not all, but many. Not in a breado, and circuses way, im giving you this but not anything else. This is like ancient rome. Trump fiddles while america burns. We will see the circus this week with his convention, well introduced by the words of his own family, as to the lack of his character and integrity. Host the speaker of the house talking about the convention that gets underway at 9 00 this morning with an official roll call vote, and then this evening, 8 30, the speeches begin. The article i mentioned, they point out 500,000 ballots were rejected in 26 primaries this season. Viewers, ie to our think this would be a great article to point out. Host i have it right here. Let me read the headline on it. Reduction rate in mail ballots could make big impact. 534,000 casting primaries did not count. Steve, why do you think this is important . Caller it has been a contentious issue lately. I have full confidence in the post office but the chain in custody in balloting, if we did it by mail would be a catastrophe for this country. Hanging chadut the in florida. This would be in normas. Enormous. Bidened in on the support line, and i support the Vice President , i believe he is a good man, but i support President Trumps policies more, i believe in capitalism. I want to help people, like everyone else, but working is the proper way to get this country going. Host so then how are you going to vote . Caller that is my privilege. To make that public but i think we can guess which way i can probably go. In hanover, maryland. Wesley in atlanta, georgia. Undecided. Good morning. Why cant you decide . Because imess waiting for this country to sort of throw up. Listen to the callers, i realize how young our country still is. We cannot get over this idea of this twoparty system where the rules are set in stone and there is no flexibility. I am still undecided. To have our Congress Just leave without doing anything when i was younger, i would see our Congress Like the honorable post, but now it is about greed, tribalism. Tribalism is a word that i never really heard of until now. I just want to say to everybody, grew up a little bit, open your eyes, and make a good choice in november. Host what are your top issues . , we have seen the but the wealth disparity is getting wider and wider. That concerns me for our future generations. Host you and others may be interested in this piece written forobert samuelson, writing the Washington Post. Future lean dollars among friends . But to these costs out to be out of the projected budget deficits under existing policies. To 2030, cdo figures another 13 trillion. The grand total comes to when he . 7 trillion. Even for washington, this is a lot of money. It brings to mind the quip commonly attributed to Robert Dirksen of illinois. A billion here, billion there, and pretty soon you are talking about real money. Substitute trillions for billions, and that is where we are today. Sandra in michigan. You are supporting the former Vice President. Caller i am. I think he is a wonderful man, and he would make a great president. I want to mention at least three ways donald trump has really hurt people. Ago, hene, two years was found guilty of running a fraudulent college and cheating million. T of 75 the judge could not send him to prison because he is the seating president. 25 million. Fined 25 million. He asked for money to help veterans. He got 6 million. This is all about globalization, and nobody is talking about that. Av do you think all of this is not all planned out . It is planned out. You have all of these people talking about nonsense about the election. This is exactly what the globalization people want, destroy america. It is all about globalization. It has nothing to do with what is going on in america. Thank you very much and goodbye. In newmarket, tennessee. Supporting the president. Caller good morning. Thanks for taking my call. I just wanted to make a brief comment on a previous caller who said republicans have never done anything for this country. Does he know who the first republican president was . Abraham lincoln, who freed the slaves. Also, does he know that the epa was set up under Richard Nixon who is also a republican . I just dont understand where these people get these ideas. I think they need to take a refresher course in u. S. History. Host what is your argument for supporting the president . What do you point to when you say he should be reelected . Caller prior to the coronavirus, which is not the president s fault it came from china. The points that out every time he talks. Unemployment was at record lows. Black unemployment, record lows. Hispanic unemployment, record lows. The man knows how to get the economy going and create jobs. He will do it again. I believe he will be reelected. Joe biden has been in washington, d. C. 447 years. I dont know any accomplishment he has ever done. Bobby in nashville, North Carolina. What do you think, how are you going to vote this november . Caller i am going to vote for trump. The reason why, he can put his policies against the last two administrations and put their policies up that they got going and got rid of all of our jobs sonhina and had his different boards and stuff like that. Upe i said, they need to put what they done in their time when they were in office against his time. The people will see the difference. For law order. All of this stuff is drummed up by him. He wants to stop it. But he cannot go in without them asking. Host ok. Sheila in massachusetts, also supporting the president. Caller good morning. Thanks for taking my call. I just wanted to mention, i was disappointed in you that you referred to President Trump the coronavirus president. I think that was terribly unfair. Host i didnt do that, sheila. Caller excuse me, if you go back, you called him the virus president of the coronavirus president. Host nope. I did not do that. Caller ask your listeners. You called him a coronavirus president or a virus president. Host ok, sheila. Go ahead. Why are you supporting the president . Caller the Democrat Party is filled with nothing but hate. Three and a half years, all we have heard is hate. They refused to condemn the violence that is going on in these metropolitan cities. They refused to acknowledge the deaths that have happened to innocent people because of these violent people that the democrats refused to condemn. Not one of them has come out and said one word about what antifa has done to seattle, washington, or oregon. We need to stop this. That is why im supporting donald trump. He will put an end to this nonsense of violence against anybody. We have a right to our own opinions. If they cannot accept my opinion, too bad. Lets go to maryland. Supporting the president. Caller good morning. Trumport president because of how he has handled thatandemic, making sure people survived the situation. He is compassionate. President who carried a bible. He has made some mistakes at times, he doesnt speak president ial, but he has done a good job. Ok. just a reminder, you have to turn down that television. John in florida. Caller i am for biden. Anybody but trump. Does anybody remember Trump University . I saw a woman on tv. She drew out her life savings, 30,000, and gave it to trump because she said she wanted to be rich like trump. Do you think she ever saw that 30,000 again . This guy says he was a billionaire. He is ripping people off. Crook. I dont know why he is not in jail. He will probably be in jail after he gets out of office because they could not try him for that because he was president when they found out about it. Host you are supporting the president. Trump. D anybody but within theidentify Democratic Party, would you call yourself a progressive or moderate . Caller i am a moderate. I am for stopping illegal immigration. I am ashamed of my party, im a democrat. They feel so sorry for these illegal aliens. I remember when the Democratic Party cared about the working man. These illegal aliens are taking jobs, they are lowering the money that people make. It is just outrageous. I agree with trump on that. Host how did you vote in 2016 . Clinton. Voted for florida supporting the former Vice President. Linda in michigan supporting President Trump in november. Hi, linda would go ahead. Caller im calling from davidson, michigan. All you see around here are trump signs and no biden signs. I dont know how people dont get it how the democrats run. They said a narrative for the day on what everybody should say so that you all are saying the same thing against him. My final comment is we received a card from our uaw to vote for biden, which i think is kind of being false. Not checking into the candidate. It is quite clear that mr. Biden is in there fairly early stages of dementia. How can he run a country with the foreign dictators we have to deal with . I really resented that the democrats think that us republicans are so ignorant. I really resent it. David in alexandria, virginia. You are supporting the former Vice President. Will you watch the Republican National convention this week . Caller yes, good morning. Yes, i plan to watch some of it, as much as i can. I am an independent voter, a conscious thinker, even though there is no independent line available. I would like to hear everyones opinion. I am a biden supporter. First of all, anyone that calls and im not i cannot support that person. Anybody that does not fight against russia and im a veteran when you are attacking my fellow soldiers, im against that. And if you are taking away my Social Security, from my parents, grandparents, that is an issue for me. If you are going to go around ling people names, nasty the soul of america is at risk here. What is this country saying about itself . What do we want . The world is watching us. We hate other people coming here, we dont want to help those who are already here, black against white, the money going to the rich. We act like we dont care about nothing but money, money, economy, economy. If we are not healthy to work in this country, they will be no economy to help because we will be dead from this virus. Org listen with the precspan radio app. Before the conventions evening session, watch cspan at 6 00 eastern for past Convention Beaches by prominent republican politicians. Howard baker, pat buchanan, former secretary of state colin powell, and condoleezza rice. Watch past Convention Speeches as the start of the Republican National convention, only on cspan, your unfiltered view of politics. Washington journal continues. Joining us this morning is al weaver, National Political reporter with the hill newspaper to give us more information about the Republican National convention. Morning, ern time this what happens at that time . What is this morning session all about . Guest this morning is one republicans will officially nominate the president as the Party Candidate for president this fall. It is the business that the party has to conduct in order to have President Trump and Vice President pence on the ticket this fall. This is the one part of the business part of the parties business that will take place in charlotte, where the convention was supposed to happen, obviously had to move to washington and baltimore because of the coronavirus, which has upended everything on the convention side. We saw the democrats last week when they went all virtual for their event. Republicans are doing mostly the same but this morning is all about Party Business. Host this morning, a roll call vote. How will that work, how long do we expect it to take . Guest i think it will take a substantial amount of time, maybe one hour. It depends on how they go about going about it. They will go through each state, they will hand out their delegates for the republican nomination. On into thell move night portion tonight, which will be two hours every night. Cryme tyme speeches from the president and his allies. They will try to sell the president s message. The country will rebound from the coronavirus. He is the want to bring back economic prosperity. You will hear him try to contrast himself with President Biden after the last week where he was very serious in tone. Him and former president obama did a little bit of a broadside against the president. The president is expected to combat those, throw in the attacks of his own. This is his week to get his messaging out, and for his sake, make up some gains in the polls. He is currently trailing when you look at national polls, battleground polls. You talk to the president s advisors, they feel better about the situation then what you see publicly but the polls paint a picture that is not so great at the moment. Host who received one of these coveted speaking slots . Is dontonights speaker jr. , the president s eldest sons, one of his biggest allies, most vocal, for sure. He will be speaking toward the end of the evening tonight. Also notable, nikki haley, the former u. N. Ambassador. She is viewed as one of the top candidates for potentially a 2024, p universe and in 2024. Then mike pence and secretary of state mike pompeo. Those are the three who will be speaking this week, along with senator tom cotton. Host how much will be releasing the president . Guest every night. That is something that the team is very eager to talk about. He will be out there every night. Part of the contrast they want is that he will be out there talking to the American People every night. Contrasting that with vice many oft biden, who for the past months and the pandemic, has remained in wilmington. He has done a lot of appearances from his house, done appearances from his home fundraising. You will see a lot of trump. This is a week long mega con fab. You will see the president out there every day. Host we will continue taking your temperature on campaign 2020. Republicans dial in at 202 7488001. Republicans, 202 7488000. Ndependents, 202 7488002 al weaver is here with us this morning until 8 30 eastern to talk about this weeks celebration beginning in charlotte. Topeaver, many of the keynote speakers are joining this convention virtually. Where will their speeches take place . Guest some will be in washington. There will be a hall in Downtown Washington to deliver some of that. That will be for folks who are not the president. Vice president pence will be speaking from fort mchenry wednesday night. The president will be on the south lawn thursday night. Most of the speeches will be in washington or across the country , where it does not allow them to travel. The other is secretary of state pompeo, he will be speaking from jerusalem, making that argument on behalf of the president. Host right role did the president play in planning the convention . Guest it is all about him, he has final say on everything. He wants his people out there speaking. It is notable that you dont see a lot of republicans out there this time around that otherwise you would have seen. Is of them that i think of liz cheney. She is the top ranking woman in congress on the republican side, number three member. She is nowhere to be seen this week. She has been critical of the president the past couple months. She has been more than willing be ay claim to what could posttrump universe after november. She is noticeably absent. You are seeing the entire speaking slate filled with pro trump folks. Jim jordan,ll see perhaps his top ally on capitol hill. Steve scalise, the House Minority whip speaking tonight. Gaetz, one is matt of the most vocal defenders of the president. He has gone to battle for the president on numerous occasions. He will have a spot tonight. There is no room for somebody like liz cheney. I think that exemplifies who youll be seeing over the next couple of nights. Host what goes into jockeying for one of these speaking slots . Is it different under this administration there in previous years . Guest it is all about how much you support the president. When you look at some of these down ballot primaries, senate primaries, it is about do you president . That is the question that a lot of Republican Voters have for these primary candidates. Look no further than last month when we had the race in alabama. The Senate Primary down there. Jeff sessions, longtime senator. Last time he ran, he ran unopposed for the seat. To show where things have changed he and the president have obviously gone through a major kerfuffle, a lot of acrimony between those sides. He went out and supported tommy tuberville, who will likely be the next senator. That situation has shown itself throughout republican politics, it will show itself again this week. All the voices you will hear this week are promoting the president s agenda. Not necessarily promoting their own talking points. This is a maga week. What about republican senators who are vulnerable, up for reelection, with the senate at stake for republicans . Guest you will not see a lot of that on this end. You look at the list of republican senators up for reelection, some big names. Who isrdner of colorado truly john hickenlooper. Martha mcsally in arizona. She is running against mark kelly, who is very wellfunded, has wronged run a strong campaign. Tom tillis. Susan collins in maine. The Common Thread is that none of them will be appearing this week. The list of embattled senators speaking this week is one, joni ernst. Youleader mcconnell, if want to call him someone with a tough reelection race, although i would argue that he does not. You are not going to see a ton on the senate front. It is all about making the case for four more years for the president and the trump agenda. And hisht, he went out campaign released a list of 50 bullet points of things that will happen in the second term. He is fighting for the American People. Everyone is still looking at this coronavirus and the havoc on thereached wreaked American Public, over 170,000 deaths, only rising at this point, and we are bruising for what could be a brutal winter. Host lets get to the calls. Carrie and tennessee. You are republican. Caller every time trump tries to do anything, the democrats blocked it and blame it on him. The people on Social Security need that extra little money. The democrats blocked it. These illegals, i call them terrorists, they should not get money because they are not americans. Weaver, any thoughts about the argument he is making . Rings the one thing that with that, immigration remains a big issue for the president. That was one of the hallmarks of his 2016 campaign, one of the same arguments he is trying to make. But the messaging is not getting through as effectively as 2016. He is still dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, a whole host of other issues, millions of job losses. At least a million most weeks. The economy is struggling along. That is the argument he is trying to make, he is the right person for the rebound. Some of those issues like immigration are not getting the play they did a couple years ago. Im not sure the effectiveness this year as far as getting that message out. Host sandra is an independent in phoenix, arizona. Good morning. Go ahead. Caller i wanted to make a statement and a question. Tout the lady that is going speak, i dont know if he has mentioned it, had a life in prison and trump gave her amnesty or clemency. And she is out. I think she is going to be one of the speakers. Ask,er thing i wanted to money, oriving cspan is it free advertisement . You owe trumpow, four ads. Give three theve other day right after trump was in tulsa, i think it was. On day after that, steve was and gave biden from bothhow ads sides. Al weaver, she talked about alice johnson, who will be speaking thursday night. Guest she is a person that the president s team is trying to get out to the American Public these days. She had her case commuted. Forhad a life in prison trafficking or something along those lines. I could be wrong. I believe she speaks thursday night. She is someone the president s team has been trying to put forward as a good face for the campaign, for their effort. President s first four years, a lot of it has been partisan bickering, but they got a criminal justice bill done. Alice johnson was brought forth askim kardashian west someone who deserved a commutation. She is someone who is probably a good example of that for the administration. She appeared at the state of the union to a rousing ovation. She will be speaking, somebody that the president s team will want to put forward. Host ron is next in houston, texas. A republican. Caller i am supporting President Trump. Yes, it has been three and half years of discord but it has been brought about by in some cases, illegal elements of the government, fbi, department of justice, and the department of administration. Ity did nothing to bring nothing but more division and chaos. I have heard nothing but a steady diet of racism and illegal activities of trump. All he has tried to do is do what is best for the country. He is not taking away from it, he is adding to it. Ouras been supporting country, sovereignty of our border. Our military, every time a democrat is in office, the first thing he does is chop our military. Host what will the president and his supporters point to this week as Mission Accomplished during the first term of this presidency . Guest i think youll hear a lot about the economic message despite what we have seen the last six months. Thatwill make the point the president , before the virus came over and took hold a lot of a lot of american lives and jobs, that he had built the biggest and best economy to date. That is a line you have are the president , supporters use often. Immigration, as we mentioned, is something they will try to talk about. It will be a little more difficult this time around. You will also hear more about the president s policies of success policy successes. Secretary pompeo speaking from jerusalem. News from last week were israel normalized relations with the uae, with the u. S. As one of the major brokers of that. You will hear that message. He is always talking about america first. That is not something that he will shy away from. The republican agenda over the past few years has been upended by the president. It will be this way moving forward, i think. The mark that this administration has put on the party will be there. This week and will be a personification of that. Colorado. In reno, you are a democrat. Caller i will make my statement and then you can say whatever. Ethics, morals, family values, common sense, foundations that trump doesnt have anything in. Harris wase announced as Vice President , what did he do . A normal president would check before making a comment. Ability to be Vice President with her birth certificate, just like he did with president obama. President trump has lied every day he has been in office. Mypillow guyhis oleadrin flour, this dr. With the coronavirus and hydroxychloroquine. He has totally put in the closet anthony found she and scientific information. Now what did he do . He came out to promote something with the plasma. Useld trump is going to everything in his book to cheat the American Public, lied to them to get a vote. He doesnt care if you live or die, he needs the vote. That is all donald trump has ever done. And his sister, annex federal judge, who has an education, unlike donald trump who had his friend to his sat test, said that donald trump is out for him, and only him, period. Any time donald trump talks is a lie. He never verifies, never gives the information. Just like the Health Care Plan he had four weeks ago im going to bring out a Health Care Plan that is going to be humongous. Where is it . Host we got the point. Al weaver, your thoughts as you are listening to that democrat talking about the president , and with the Democratic Party will do this week during the Republican National convention . Guest the democrats had their presence last week, they will try to capture message the president. It may not be what the president had last week where he is going out doing official of events, going to pennsylvania on the day of former Vice President bidens acceptance speech. That type of stuff. What is really striking is the dichotomy between the president s message of this week, talking about the Great American comeback, that type of stuff whether you believe it or not, however you feel and the Vice President s. The thing that was striking about his speech last week, you can see with the coronavirus has done. It has forced all of these events to go virtual. It forced the Vice President to give a speech without a crowd. There was no such thing as canned applause. The speech was markedly shorter. It also gave off a seriousness that you dont usually see in convention acceptance speeches. It gave a bit of an oval office field, whether that was intended or not. The president will be on the south lawn, he will have a lot of socially distanced supporters on the lawn, so it will be louder, more of a raucous event. The president is all about the ratings, made for tv events. That is what he is trying to get through this week, trying to get his message across. That is what he things is the best way. Host it all kicks off at 9 00 eastern time with the official business, the roll call vote. We are getting some pictures of what the set up looks like at the Convention Center in charlotte, North Carolina. They have sent out these pictures of where the delegates will be sitting, six feet apart. Take a look at the second picture they sent us. Of colorado, where he will be sitting for todays roll call vote. Ill weaver, talk about what precautions republicans took to bring delegates together in person for this vote. Guest for example, the democrats last week did everything virtually, they did the roll call, they did shots of each state. This one will be more conventional in that sense. Everyone will be in a room. Toy also want to be able fulfill their commitment to the city of charlotte by having a convention there, technically speaking, as far as congressional contractual obligations. They are doing a lot more social distancing, doing temperature checks. I believe they are doing testing. I could be wrong. Host according to reporting, they sent out tests to delegates who would be attending, six from each state. Testing, provided more i believe, before they start this morning. At least temperature checks and other precautions put in place. Guest you are seeing that more and more with republican events lately, to be frank. In june, ths ago right after there was a big job support at the end of may, the president went on the offensive and did that rally in tulsa. Everything was not smooth sailing, lets put it that way. Ever since then, republicans have gone out there, the president has made statements about wearing a mask is patriotic. So you are seeing republicans take this a little more seriously in that regard. Are in a room, precautions have to be taken. But what you have seen from the event this morning shows what this virus has done to this country. A National Political party cannot convene as they have in the past, with thousands, tens of thousands of people in a single city, to hail their nominee. This is the new normal at least for this year. These parties have to make the best of it. Host how will the media recover cover this Republican National convention, as opposed to how the democrats allow the media to cover it . Guest each of these networks will be caring the same amount, the two hours between 9 00 and 11 00. The democrats spilled over a couple of nights. Kamala harris went into the 11 00 hour, as did Vice President biden. I think youll see that, agreements on the network side. President. As the president , he gets the lions share of attention, no matter what. Especially this president , he makes the point of maximizing exposure, maximizing what he wants to say, whether it ends up being a good thing or bad thing for him. He is about flooding the zone. There will be a lot of coverage, there always has been for a convention. But it will not be what it has been in recent years. There is not as much media on the ground in charlotte today, as it would have been if this was a fourday event. My company does not have as much of a presence as we would have otherwise. I would probably be there right now. [laughter] it truly stinks. But you are seeing what you are seeing. The president will try to flood zone where he can. Host teresa in tennessee. A republican. Caller please give me as much time as you did the caller from nevada. I have two points. What we expect out of donald trump. The thing that scared me to death about the Democrat Convention right after is when joe biden said more or less, heck yeah, we are going to close your businesses down and mandate that you wear a mask. What i love about donald trump is that he is not a dictator over us. Everything went democrats is what we are going to demand you do, we are going to demand you do this. I believe donald trump has kept us safe in that manner. Will keep us safe from a mandatory vaccine that has not been proven, and we dont know that it is safe. That is what i feel donald trump is doing for us. He is saving us from being a communist nation where our government tells us what we are going to do, what we are going to wear, what we are going to put into our bodies. That is the first thing. The second thing is, i am a suburban white woman. I am more concerned about the black lives matter protests, violence in our streets than i am of coronavirus. I am more afraid of my grandson getting killed riding a bike down the road than coronavirus getting him. I want to know what donald trump will do to protect us from this violence. We know the black lives matter and antifa is the party of the democrats. As you noticed, they never mentioned them during the convention. Host i will leave it there. Teresa, self entitled white suburban woman. Why does the president keep talking about the suburbs and suburban voters . The one thing that you will hear, the president s team has made this clear the last couple of months. In recent days, they expressed their surprise. They think the winning issue is Law Enforcement. Being the law and order president is a winning issue for the president. Whether that works in the suburban areas, im not sure. Perilousdent has a relationship with a lot of suburban folks. He has been losing them a lot. Came out infolks droves for democrats. That is really what brought the democrats the house in 2018, what is fueling the rise of the party at this point. It is a double sword for the a doubleedged sword for the president. He wants to make this point. He does not think the democrats are strong on Law Enforcement at this point. In the black lives matter movement, he has obviously been vocal on that. I think thats one thing. There is that. There is still the virus and the havoc it has wreaked over the last six months. Thattioned earlier, he put list out for things second term, and one is two were notable. One was to have a vaccine by the end of 2020. One for next year was return to normal. It was simple as that, return to normal. That is where the president s eyes are. He has been talking about election day, which seems ambitious when you hear from experts and that type of thing. The president is working on an accelerated timeline, one way or another. That is going to be the overriding issue we look at i think in the next couple of weeks. Host al weaver, between the 9 00 and 10 00 hour of cspan, we are going to bring gaveltogavel coverage of the Republican National convention. What will you be watching for is the roll call gets underway this morning . Guest you were going to hear a lot of support in the president s behalf. You are going to hear a lot of people coming out and claiming agendaa agenda maga is going to heal the party and the country at this point. The roll call vote is one thing. I think tonight is the more important event, when the speeches get underway. You hear people talk on the president s behalf. A lot from his family. They will be littered throughout the event, all four nights. The president is going to be there every night. Whether you like him or not, you are going to see him on your television screen. He is going to try he is trying to make the case for another four years. He is trying to contrast last week, where Vice President biden again, much more serious. A much more measured tone. He is more about trying to cast this presidency as doom and gloom for four years. The president obviously is say, thisgo out and is my case for the next four years. Well see if he is able to do that. People have criticized him in recent weeks for laying out the second term agenda. I know he had problems doing that recently in an interview with sean hannity. He was asked, what is on the docket for a second term, and he did not get onto it. Did not have a great answer. He is going to need a better answer this week if he wants another four years. Host you can follow l waiver al weaver if you go to the hill, political reporter with that publication. Our coverage here on cspan begins this morning in this room, at the Convention Center in charlotte, when they begin official Party Business sometime around 9 00 a. M. Eastern time. When we come back, we will talk to tw shannon. He is with the black voices for trump. We will be right back. Tonight on the communicators, a look at Election Security with jeff moss, founder of the black cats Cybersecurity Conference and devcon conference. Con conference. How anxious should we be about the cybersecurity of the vote. Im going to vote and im going to trust the result. But i think what is different in this election than the previous election is the awareness is much higher. The people that have been talking about these issues, they are not terribly new. But now people are actually going to use them. Before, they would say too expensive, that is such an edge case. Hand markedng with humanreadable ballots. For a long time, when you factor stood it is human readable the machine marks it. The Gold Standard is hand marked. Theff moss on communicators, on cspan 2. Republicanss the turn. For four days, the Republican National convention. Hear their vision for the future and their priorities for the next four years. What President TrumpVice President pence accept the Party Nomination for reelection. Coverage begins this morning as delegates officially meet. And at 8 30 p. M. Eastern, the evening session kicks off. Watch live on cspan, Live Streaming and ondemand at cspan. Org, or visit the free cspan radio app. Before the conventions evening session, watch cspan at 6 00 p. M. Eastern, for past speeches by former politicians including , anduchanan, colin powell condoleezza rice. Watch passed Convention Speeches and the start of the Republican National convention, only on cspan, your unfiltered view of politics. Washington journal continues. Host welcome back on this monday, august 24. You are looking at a live shot of the Convention Center in charlotte, North Carolina, where republicans will officially begin their week of the convention with a roll call vote that is expected to get underway around 9 30 a. M. Eastern time. Our coverage on cspan begins then. Until then, we are talking with tw shannon, who is the Advisory Board manner member with black voices for truck. He was also former speaker of the Oklahoma House of representatives. What is your group, black voices for trump . Guest good morning, greta. Thank you for having me. Black voices for trump is a collection of africanamericans around the country who support this president , who recognize he has not only history, but an agenda to move africanamericans forward. You look at the unemployment rate. You look at what he has done in terms of hbcu funding. The president has a proven track record. I used to be cochair. Lost our former cochair, mr. Herman cain, who was a longtime american success story. Our story about black voices is to go out and tell the story about what the president is doing to earn the vote of black americans and moved black america forward. Host what do you. 2, mr. Shannon . Guest there is a huge agenda. Number one, tax cuts. Allowing people to keep more of their money is where it really starts. When you are talking about how you move people out of generational poverty that is really the issue that faces africanamerican communities, particularly in the inner cities. Issue theoice idea that we are keeping africanamerican children trapped in failing schools even barack obama said early in his campaign that the great civil rights moment opportunity of the 21st century is access to a quality education. The president has a record on that for africanamericans. Your previous guest mentioned the idea of criminal Justice Reform. Back in the 1990s, it was the joe biden and Hillary Clinton team that laid out this war on crime that really was a war in africanamericans. It created disparities between crack cocaine and powder campaign and locked up a lot of people who look like me, just the color of my skin. The president has made an agenda that actually tackles, and frankly brought together republicans and democrats, in a move for criminal Justice Reform , which impacts africanamericans disproportionately. I think that is just a few of the items. Dont let me forget hbcu funding. The president increased funding for historically black colleges and universities even here in oklahoma, langston university, the alma mater of both of my parents. Its a budget increases sometimes as much as 26 . Wentnly that she further, and annualized that funding. There is a great story to be told. Black voices for trump is part of the narrative to tell that story. When it comes to the tax cuts, the Public Integrity organization put together some data after the tax cut was passed, pointing out that nearly 40 of black households earn less than 30,000. How many black americans benefited from the tax cuts . Guest just rewind the tape before the pandemic it is back in january, when we really saw the lockdown take place in march. Before the tax cuts but for what theuts, who knows is the economy would be . The vast majority of africanamericans benefited from the president s tax cut. Any time there is an opportunity for people to keep more of their money, it is a good thing for the economy and for the families. I think this is where you see the real contrast in ideology between republicans and democrats. We believe as conservatives that people are in the best shape to make decisions about their income where to spend that money. Your group is it officially part of the president s campaign . And how many members do you have . We are an official part of the campaign. This president has done more in fact, you are seeing the result of this president in the Africanamerican Community. I dont think ever before you have seen democrats have to compete for the africanamerican vote. I look at the Democratic Convention last week, and the way they highlighted many minorities. Actually competing for the vote for the first time. The challenges, there was not a lot of policy issues to talk about how to move the Africanamerican Community forward. Organizationsroots all over the country. The Advisory Board, there are several dozen members that helped shape messaging and the targeting. Im cochair of the group, along of along with many other conservatives around the country. This president has the right solutions for the Africanamerican Community. That is what im hoping the convention this week will be as opposedlutions, to last weeks convention, which was about whats wrong with america. This is still the safest place in the world for investment. It works for africanamericans as well. Host cbs had a recent Battleground Tracker paul that shows the former Vice President voters 90 to 6 . This is higher than the percent of voters that backed Hillary Clinton heading into her nomination in 2016. How do you respond . All, we know what the polls mean for donald trump. We know they cannot be trusted. What i think is being underestimated is this idea that there is a silent majority at their who speaks to President Trump, and exley support the president. As a focal member of the social media world right now, i often post the positive things that happen for President Trump, to move the country forward, and the 3 million jobs created in the last two months, even during this pandemic. Me about donald trump is the number of people, and theyre often minorities, who will inbox me to say, we are reconsidering. We have voted democrat most of our lives. We are tired of the same old, same old. A predominately africanamerican church in lawton, oklahoma. A numberfore elections of democrat politicians would come into the church, and promise the moon, and he would not see them again until the next election. President trump says something that i think resonated with africanamericans that i think will speak for a long time. What do you have to lose . We have an opportunity as a community to do with the rest of the country has known for a long time. That is that a twoparty system is good for america and so it is good for black america. You look at even what happened in the last election. President trump 14 of the africanamerican male vote. I think there has been a huge campaignat the trump is creating africanamerican communities im sorry, africanamerican communities are creating offices for the campaign, because the is a real record here, unlike past president s who have ignored the Africanamerican Community or taken them for granted. Donald trump is really competing for the vote. Im convinced that this term you are going to see a Huge Movement and africanamerican support for this president. Host as we approach the top of the hour and republican delegates are gathering in charlotte, North Carolina, the Convention Gets Underway this morning in the 9 00 hour. We are expecting them to gavel him, the delegates starting to take their seats. Masks are required. Six feet apart. They will start with a roll call vote. We are talking with the Advisory Board member and cochair of black voices for trump. Randy in little rock, arkansas, good morning. Caller good morning. Host go ahead, randy. Now,r yes, im watching and i dont agree with nothing this guy is talking about, shannon. Shannon, what i would like to know is, is it true that donald trump gave money to all the black universities . I went to Southern University in baton rouge, and the people i talked to are saying they did not get any money from donald trump. Number two, no one is talking about no one is talking this man was bankrupt two or three times and had to get a lot of help black folks. And number three, donald trump is racist and we all know donald trump is racist. He is not the person who needs to be running the United States again. He did not do anything about this coronavirus. Told people to spray disinfectant in their mouth, then go outside in the sun, with the heat to kill it. And that is all true. Donald trump needs to listen to the science, and he is not doing that. Donald trump is not for the black folks. Host im going to have tw shannon respond. Randy, lett of all, me say to you that this is a president who has a proven record, and you can check the record. What donald trump did for black colleges and universities is in the congressional record. You can look at any of the House Management websites that talk about the funding. This president increased funding for any three percent for historically black colleges and universities, and that is a fact. It was not done for political reasons. It was done because he recognizes that historical black colleges and universities are critical to africanamerican success. If you look at ceos of a Chickasaw Community bank many black ceos came from hbcus. If we are going to move the needle for the Africanamerican Community, how do you start moving people from generational policy . Hbcus are critical components of that. President trump was the first president to move the number for hbcu funding. You mentioned this idea of President Trump being a racist. We hear about this with every republican that has ever been in office. Every republican i know has had to deal with being called a racist, even myself, to be honest with you. But the reality is instead of trying to figure out who is a racist and who is not that is not going to move the needle for the Africanamerican Community. What is good to move the needle for the Africanamerican Community is jobs and educational opportunity. President trump has been big when it comes to those issues. I think the record proves it and you are going to hear about it this week at the convention. Host tell us your story. Did you have conservative parents . When did you realize i did or come become a republican conservative . Guest i did. In oklahoma, we are a conservative state. We are the most conservative state in the union. Family had not been with been historically republican. Many of them are now. Most democrats that i know got democrat can dentals credentials from college or once they started a job opportunity. I got my conservative credentials from the church, the idea of valuing human life, the idea of personal liberty. Those all came from my judeo jim heritage in the africanamerican church, where i saw a great family values, and i saw men who got up and went to work every day, including my parents, who were married. I lost my mother in february. My parents were married almost 50 years. I learned that in the church. I did not have to listen to cnn or msnbc to try to get what i believed was a good core foundation. I learned from my church and my own family. That is where i got my own values from. When i became an adult, one of my first opportunities to work in government and to serve was working for what i believe is one of the greatest public figures ever to serve, congressman jc watts. He is a personal friend and mentor of mine. That is when i really got involved. Now, i am the ceo of a bank, Chickasaw Community bank, where we are seeing in real time how good Public Policy can move the needle for people, for individuals, and for Small Businesses in this country. The president represent judeochristian values . Guest i think the president has done more in fact for people of faith in this country who care about the idea of personal liberty, keeping his commitment that many before him have made israel, totest ally, also making sure that religious liberty, the idea of freedom of worship, remains. Just a few months ago, literally, there was a shut down or an attempted shutdown of churches around the country, and it was donald trump who, when Many Democrats called on him, asking him to have a National Shutdown it was President Trump who said that is not what this country is about. We are federal. We are going to allow the states to make decisions. Most states have come full circle on the Coronavirus Relief we are seeing around the country. Independent line. You are next. Caller how are you doing today . Sir, i have got to ask you a couple things here. One of them is if you think donald trump was sued for discriminating against black number one. Eynolds, two, in the beginning, every black person i knew was republican because they were the party of lincoln. That did not change until johnson gave them the voting said he literally destroyed the south because of the south, and you know what i am saying here. , why doesst with you theident trump invite chairman of the joint chiefs, colin powell . I will listen to your answer of the air. Have a good day. Host tw shannon . Guest i did not hear the last part of the question. Something about colin powell . Host i did not understand if he said invite him to the white house. I was not sure. You can just take the first part. Wast i think the idea again about the idea of africanamerican support for this president , this president s record on africanamerican support. Trump myown donald entire life. I remember him as a media person , but also as a real estate tycoon. I heard of him. I knew of him my entire life. I have also seen amazing support for him from africanamerican Leaders Within the community, including al sharpton and jesse jackson. When i was a kid, i remember them heralding the work of donald trump. It was not until he became president that this idea of his being a racist even came about, but it comes with the territory. When you are republican, its what the democrats have done for the last 50 years. Tell the community that the only issue, the most important issue, is, is this guy racist . Who is this racist . There is a litmus test if you are republican. Prove to me you are not a racist. I am a banker, ceo of Chickasaw Community bank. I asked people, have you ever robbed a bank . Most people will tell you know. Most people have not. Prove it. How do you prove you are not a racist . I dont know. I do know this president has a record on africanamerican issues and supporting issues important to this community. Does not couto to the idea kowtow to the idea of what is political correct. He calls it like he sees it. When he sees injustice, he tries to correct it. That is why you are seeing criminal Justice Reform, something i think that is historic that he does not get enough credit for. You have also seen what the president has done with the idea of empowerment, the idea of finding his strength communities. Many of them are africanamerican communities. And finding a way for private investment. You cant tax and spend it your way out of poverty. The idea of entitlement reform that is something you are probably going to see happening in the next generation. In the idea that you cannot keep people dependent. That is something we have seen from democrats along time, is this idea that you want to keep people dependent on the government teat. That is the challenge, i think, and policy for now. Once you start down the idea of marxist socialism, of giving people money they did not earn, how do you begin to reel that back . I believe that the best social program in the world is a good paying job, and that is what this president has been about. Pandemic, you are seeing over 3 million jobs being created in the last three months, trying to get the economy back moving. I will put the record of the Africanamerican Community with any former president. Host david in falls church, virginia, republican. Caller thanks for taking my call. I appreciate you coming on the show even though you have to put up with attacks and nothing but gotcha questions. My question is, what do you feel about the current vernacular that democrats in particular are peoplend calling black colored people, and doing the same thing with hispanics and asians or people of color, whereas in the 1950s, people were called colored people. Now, they are reversing it and calling them people of color, it in my opinion is a racial slur, essentially, but they are doing it i believe it is the soft bigotry of low expectations. My other question is, what do you feel when you are told by people who hear that you support donald trump that he is a racist, and yet here you are, a black conservative, saying you support him . Is it ever make your brain heard that you are being told that somebody is a racist that willingly and openly takes your support and does things to help you . You know, its interesting. Being an africanamerican conservative, you are always subjected to a number of media attacks, and people from the left who like to keep us in a box. That is the challenge, i think, that goes to your first question. The Democratic Party is really good at keeping the Africanamerican Community and africanamerican votes within a box. If you dont think exactly like us, you dont behave exactly like us, if you dont support the candidates we support, then you are not one of us. I wholeheartedly, fundamentally reject that ideology. I will put my blackness against anybody. The reality is the Democratic Party has taken the africanamerican vote for granted for far too long. I believe that part of what has made this country great is that we are a twoparty system. If the twoparty system is good enough for the majority of america, it is also good for black america. The africanamerican vote, the Africanamerican Community is important. That is why you have seen him make appointments like those of ben carson, a terrific surgeon, and a guy who has been on the president ial ticket for the primary back in 2012, and who way for urbanhe development, and revamping that entire agency. This president has done a terrific job. You contrast that to the democrats. Joe biden member who President Trump is running against. Facing biden, a guy who totally socialism. A guy who looked at me and said, if you dont vote for him, you are not black. Within theversity Africanamerican Community. That we all think alike, that we all support each other you are seeing with the Democrat Party really feels about africanamericans, and that is what is really sad. You try to see that she saw a great attempt by the democrats to repaint joe biden as the savior of the Africanamerican Community. In the 1990s, he said the people who look like me, who were my age at the time, were nothing more than juvenile predators. Im not a predator. I know my son, my 11yearold, he is not a predator. The president has to answer for some of the rhetoric and policies they promulgated the last 50 years. Host we will go to louisiana, a democrat there. Go ahead. Caller good morning. Good morning to you, sir. Theticed when they showed people meeting together, half of them did not have their masks on. Cain, he was at the tulsa rally, and he was sitting up there without with all his family. And guess what herman cain is now . The 999 man is gone. Trump told everybody, this virus will be around 15 days. It wont be but two or three people that will have it. Then, it will go away. Why is he supporting connie west . Kanye west . Gave kanye west 2 million. He didnt let kanye west put the money in, he let the flag lady put the money in. Uye, i feel for the brother because the brother is sick. I dont know how much they are giving you, but you are making an embarrassing person out of yourself. Thank you. Is interesting to hear somebody criticize somebody for having a difference of opinion. I value your opinion. I thick it is important that africanamericans have a diverse opinion. I believe africanamericans should be at every table, not just a particular table. I think this president has done a terrific job making the coronavirus a priority. To ppp loans for Small Businesses, but also the equipment that is needed for healthcare workers around the country. Also, lets not forget it was President Trump who first shut down the idea of people coming from wuhan, china into this country. People were calling him racist, saying he was out of touch and out of step. Now we are seeing countries across europe and asia enacting the same policy. Thinkingspend my time about who is racist and who is not. What i am more interested in is what do we do to move people out of generational poverty . President trump and the Republican Party have the solution. Thosethe caller mentioned gathering in the Convention Center. The delegates, six from each state and territory. Some were not wearing masks. The Republican National convention, according to foxnews , saying masks were mandatory. Alldayre taken and an health desk was put in place. They said in the reporting by theirat to take care of business in person, which is now happening, the rnc took a slew of precautions. Coronavirus tests were mailed to each delegate, and they were tested again on arrival. Masks were mandatory. Events were socially distanced. We showed you earlier the tables set up in that room with each chair appearing to be six feet apart at this convention. Moments away from this convention getting underway with the official roll call, the nominating vote for the president and Vice President. Coverage here on cspan as we continue to talk to tw shannon. We go to chris in elizabethtown, kentucky. Caller thank you cspan. Appreciatee to say i you having an informed opinion. Dont let any callers get you down. Ie reason for my call as would love to see somebody put something on the ballot. I am for street i am for free isech, but i think hollywood disrespecting the majority of people in this country by using the word all the time. If we put something on the ballot so we can get a response from the people, the audience of weood, asking them not can pass a law because it is free speech, but if we put it on a ballot, we would have people gdk yes or no as to whether was acceptable, we could put a stop to it. Conservative, i am a little disappointed in trump. About igets this on think would do a great thing for the country. Host we are running out of time. Hearing think what i am you saying is you are concerned about the degradation of traditional american values. I think most americans are concerned about that. Elitesia and hollywood have certainly done their part. What i most concerned about is the idea of personal liberty. The challenge, whenever you have a liberty, youre going to have opposing ideas. So long as we are able to have a society where people are several , part of that starts with a focus on civics in public education. One of the challenges we are seeing is a country now is many people dont have a history of who they are and to this country is. What american exceptionalism is. If we get back to that, if we get back to those fundamentals and starts demanding those of our children, and demanding adults in public office, the issue you are concerned about in the media will take care of itself. Shannon, Advisory Board and cochair of black voices for trump. Thank you for your time this morning. Me. T thank you for having host as we said, the Republican NationalConvention Underway this morning with the official roll call vote. We will bring you into the room before they start. The Republican NationalCommittee ChairwomanRhonda Mcdaniels was on face the nation yesterday. Heres what she had to say about the role the president is going to play this week. He will be in North Carolina, unlike joe biden who did not go to wisconsin, the state where he held his convention. The president has an event planned in asheville. He has not confirmed if he is going to come by charlotte. We have delegates here. Ap is reporting mike pompeo will be addressing from israel where he is on official business. When you start hearing about cabinet members being involved, first of all it is unusual for diplomats to get involved, but it starts to look like using taxpayerfunded federal resources for campaign. Will taxpayers be reimbursed . I can only tell you that the events we have put forward from the rnc and the campaign are going to be paid for by the convention and the campaign. Everything we have put together has changed because of covid. The president rightly said we are going to leave jacksonville because we do not want to have resources taken away from a city dealing with a pandemic. He brought it back to the white house. It is being paid for by the Republican National committee and the campaign, not taxpayers. You are confirming pompeos trip will be reimbursed by the campaign . I am not confirming anything to do with secretary pompeo. The programming, the staging, everything we are doing will be paid for by the Republican National committee and the campaign. Host face the nation yesterday. New york post with the headline about this week, the president to speak every night of the rnc this week. Tonights lineup includes senator tim scott, republican whip Steve Scalise, matt gaetz ,f florida, jim jordan of ohio former ambassador to the United Nations nikki haley along with ronna mcdaniel. Donald trump, jr. Is the keynote toward the end of the evening. That is just tonights lineup. There is a theme for every night this week. Tonights theme, a land of heroes. Tuesday, a land of promise. Greatness, the night the president will speak. Lets go to covington, tennessee. Supporting the former Vice President. Tell us what. Caller good morning. I support Vice President biden because i have known him for 50 years. Or longer. Host ok. Caller with President Trump, how in the world can you vote for somebody whos sister has confirmed what everybody has been saying about him . He has not a man with integrity, he is a con man, he is awful. He is all for himself, he is all about trump. He is a liar. All of the people he has selected to be in his campaign over the past three years, they all are either convicted or indicted. That is not a good thing for our country. Thank god we have this opportunity, each one of us, to voice our opinion about it. But iot wish him no ill, wish that he would not be elected president of our United States again. He is not good for us. Thank you. Host we go to caroline in atlanta, georgia. Supporting the president. Good morning. Caller good morning. I support the president because i am one of the kind of people that will write down all of his good works. He has done very good works. Theke what he has done for d. C. Schools and for taxes. Cutke what he did when he regulation from under our health care. There are a lot of things i like that the president has done. I feel he will bring this country back. This corona is all over the world. Happened is supposed to happen. It is not in our hands. I would like to say that even senile, ien is believe Kamala Harris would be our president within two years because of his health conditions. Also, we need to stop looking at our president as being the evil person. We may not like everything he says, and i never liked what my foolish song what my foolish uncle used to say, they said some awful things back in the day. I feel this president is going to bring this country back. He is doing a good job and i look forward to his good works. Host as we show you the room where the delegates have gathered for the roll call vote that will get underway momentarily, i want to read from ,he political politico piece some behind the scenes of how this came together. The report that the results of the efforts will become known starting at 8 30 p. M. Tonight. One of the key decisions they made was to start half hour earlier than democrats which means they will have more programming each night with the help of a former producer from the Celebrity Apprentice and input from the president that extended to my new details. They decided it would be heavy ofnonpoliticians with a mix live and recorded speeches. The president has gone backandforth between how much time each speaker should have, whether segments should be recorded or live, and where he should give his acceptance speech. He has reached out to allies for input. The president had ultimate signoff on the speaker lineup, insisting that a few of his staunchest supporters receive the most coveted spots including jim jordan. The president had held several convention focused meetings with advisors in recent weeks. First Lady Melania Trump has also been intimately involved. The first lady will speak tuesday night. Dorothy in pine bluff, arkansas. Good morning. Caller good morning. I will be voting for joe biden. I have been so embarrassed with the leadership of President Trump. Ignored thely truth. He has told so many lies. He stood on stage talking about bleach. For our president to even try to Say Something like that to American People, i think that is embarrassing and very poor leadership. To have so many criminal people that have been involved in his administration is very poor for the country. I am ready to get back to real character and real leadership. You aboutme also tell what is happening in washington, the same day of this first day of the Republican National convention. The postmaster general is going to be testifying for a second time. This time before the House Oversight and Reform Committee operations. We will get coverage of that at 10 00 a. M. Eastern time on ,span2, our website cspan. Org as well as the free cspan radio app. The Washington Post has this story related to his testimony, he likely will get asked about this. Rejection rates for mailin ballots could make a big impact. Ballots were mail rejected across primaries in states this year. That related story this morning. Janice in clinton, North Carolina. Good morning. I do support the president. Host ok. Ir i will tell you i will tell you why. I am a lifelong democrat, but they have changed. Me or something. I will never vote for another democrat. They talk about chaos, yes there is chaos. I have never seen a party destroy the whole country just so they can get back at the president. They dont care who they hurt as long as they are hurting him. Is that who you want to run your government . Do you want people who tell the other side, i am going to come get you . Kamala harris has said evil things. She has been a nasty person. I am not embarrassed by him at all. I see a man that has fought hard to he does not take a dime of money either. He is not getting paid. Why dont they investigate these other people like Nancy Pelosis husband is supposed to have some involvement in the post office properties. How did she get so rich . I am going to vote for donald trump and i am proud of donald trump and i think he has done an amazing job. I dont see how people can be brainwashed by somebody who cant get out of the basement. Host the Biden Campaign announcing former republican members of congress are endorsing him for president including the former arizona senator jeff flake. Take a look at the list of others who are supporting the former Vice President. I have to catch my breath. Anyway. He is doing exactly what putin is doing in russia. I think he is a russian advocate. Unions, heg away the is not letting he is holding the public down by not letting the minimum wage come up to 15 an hour, just like putin. How come these republicans dont see this . They want to turn a blind eye. It is amazing to me. They cant come up with any facts. Ive got facts. Host alright, we will get in some other calls as we wait for the convention to get underway. You are supporting the president. Caller yes i am. I used to be a democrat, and i always voted democrat even when carter was president. My area, when bill clinton passed that nafta, every job, every meal every mill around here shut down and went overseas. I told myself i would never vote for another democrat. The reason why i like donald trump and you can say whatever you want. I know he is boisterous, and some things that come out of his mouth is bad, but the bottom line is that he is a businessman. He knows how to run things. All of these jobs coming back to the United States is because of him. All of these naysayers, all of these people out there that is putting trump down, they need to get their facts. They dont have none. Host you and others may be interested in the wall street journal this morning, their latest poll with nbc showing strong points for the president. Despite lacking in overall poles in battleground states, they pointed this, white voters in the most recent survey were divided almost equally between positive and negative views of the president. Negative views outweighed positive ones by white voters. Largest of the nations ethnic or racial Minority Group say they will back the president , slightly higher than the 28 who voted for him and 2016. Interest among the election has risen and now matches democratic interest. Ratef republicans themselves as highly interested in the election compared with 83 of democrats. Brenda in montgomery, alabama. Supporting joe biden. Peggy me, we will go to in northport, alabama. Supporting President Trump. Are you there . Caller i am here. Host you are on the air. Caller i support President Trump 100 . I do not understand all of these people who say they are going to vote for biden. He has brought that jobs, he has done away with all these regulations, he has done the best anyone can do in the virus, he cant control this virus.
