With the free cspan radio app. Now, President Trumps News Conference today at the white house. He spoke about his tweet on the goodyear employee policy concerning political speech, the Coronavirus Response in the president ial election. This is halfanhour. Thank you, very much. Before i provide an update on our continued progress against the china virus, i would like to discuss actions against the iranian regime. I am directing the secretary of state mike pompeo to notify the u. N. Security council that the United States intent to restore all previously suspended United Nations sanctions on iran. It is a snapback. Not uncommon. Two years ago, i withdrew the United States from the deal, aus iran Nuclear Product of the obamabiden or and policy failure, a failure like people have seen in terms of the amount of money we pay for absolutely nothing in a shortterm deal. Tens ofl funneled billions of dollars to iran, 100 billion dollars, plus 150 billion plus 1. 8 alien dollars in cash which i dont know the president at the authority to give, gave one day billion dollars in cash. Another great deal that turned out to be a total disaster. That would have funded all the chaos and bloodshed and terror in the region and throughout the world. And i wont say anything, because i dont like saying it, but iran doesnt have so much money to give to the world anymore, to the terrorist, to give to al qaeda and various other groups of people that they were funding. They have to keep their own regime together, and it is not easy. If and when i win the election, within the first month, iran will come to us and they will be asking for a deal so quickly because they are doing so poorly, but that deal was a disaster, 100 billion dollars, and 150 billion dollars we terminated it, but if we didnt terminate it, it would start to expire very shortly. The good deal was the deal we made with the uae and israel. Countries want to come into that deal and all of a sudden you are going to have peace in the middle east and you couldnt have done it this ridiculous iran nuclear deal, as they call it, that president obama made along with sleepy joe biden. I am posed to the toughest type never sanctions on iran. And this has caused great difficulty for them giving money to terrorist organizations. And if they do, they will have hell to pay. Earlier this year, i ordered the strike that took out the worlds number one terrorist, qassem soleimani, in addition to previously terminating leader al founder of isis abu baka two leadinghe terrorists by far in the world. The founder of isis. Nobody even talks about that. And we also defeated, we now caliphateof the isis in syria. When i took over, it was a mess, it was a total mess. Their world over the place. My administration they were all over the place. My administration will not allow this iran Nuclear Situation to go on. They will never have a nuclear weapon. Iran will never have market down, mark down iran will never have mark it down, iran will never have a nuclear deal. It was clear the United States would always have sanctions to prevent iran from developing a nuclear weapon. We paid a fortune for a failed concept on a failed policy, a policy that would make it impossible to have peace in the middle east. Legend we areion confronting the wave of crime in democratrun American Cities that is absolutely shocking. When you look at portland or new york, san francisco, seattle, angeles, sometimes los democratrun cities, they are a mess because they dont get it. They dont get it where there is something that nobody else understands. We have deployed 1000 additional federal agents to help these democratrun disasters. We just have done this. We have to give them a hand. And we can stop it immediately, like in portland, it would be so easy to stop. They would stop it immediately. We only sent in some homeland people that were great safe the courthouse, because it would have blown up or burned down easily. But if we were called in, we would send in homeland, fbi, just law enforcement, send them weekly and eradicate it, just like in minneapolis. As soon as they were called they should have been called in sooner that would have at far less damage. Today we announced operation legend has resulted in nearly 1500 arrest. Arrests. Bad ones, bad ones, really bad people. Prosecutions in prison sentences will follow when they will spend a very long time in prison for what they have done. Most cities are wellrun, most of the nations wellrun, and the areas that we are talking about are in all cases run by democrats, usually radical left leaning democrats like in new york or in portland. We have made arrests in kansas city, chicago, cleveland, detroit, milwaukee, st. Louis, memphis and albuquerque for many violent crimes, including gun crimes, arson, and 91 murders. We are also using the full power of the federal government to defeat, as you know, the china virus. 80 cases have declined in of the jurisdictions in the past week. 80 . New zealand had a big outbreak, and other countries that were held up to try and make us look not as good as we should look because we have done an incredible job, but they have had a lot of outbreaks, but they will be able to put them out like we them out. Hospitalization rate has fallen in our country, 50 or percent since the peak in april, 54 . Older americans are the most vulnerable to the virus. 92 of deaths have occurred among those 55 and older. 2. 7 percent of deaths have ,ccurred among those 44 years just think of that, 44 years and younger. So 44 years old and younger, only 2. 7 of deaths have occurred. Hadmany of those people preexisting conditions and heart, diabetes and other problems, but many of those. So think of that. Nly 2. 7 under 44 years of age excess mortality in europe this year is 33 higher than the United States, evidence that the tragic cost of this virus is higher in other western nations. South korea, you have been reading about south korea doing well but they had a breakout but they will be able to solve the problem. Vigilant andemain continue to exercise extreme caution around those of highest risk, as we know. Multiple colleges and universities announced that they would suspend inperson teaching. We have learned one thing. There is nothing like campus. There is nothing like being with a teacher as opposed to being on a computer board. It has been proven. A lot better. It is a lot better. Ipads are wonderful, but you are not going to learn the same way you do by being there. Nevertheless, certain colleges and universities have announced that they will suspend inperson teaching. Or older people and individuals with underlying conditions, the china virus is very dangerous, but for university students, the likelihood of severe illness is less than or equal to the risk. F a seasonal flu happens and flu comes and goes and it can be very bad, but people dont talk about it in the same way. And we shouldnt. But if you look at that, the odds are less than or equal to. Instead of saving lives, the decision to close universities could cost lives. It is significantly safer for students to live with other young people than to go home and spread the virus to older americans. Makes sense. Thing ishutdown causing tremendous depression for those places that are still shut down. You look at certain areas that in all cases democratrun, still shut down, and the numbers there arent even good, but causing mend depression, suicide, drugs, alcohol, abuse, than is causedre by the virus itself, now that we understand the virus. Colleges should take reasonable precautions. Students who feel sick should not attend class and limit social interaction as they would for any other illness, and universities should implement measures to protect high risk students or professors and teachers. The ultimate goal of testing is to prevent transmission in highrisk settings and to , butnt transmission period especially in Nursing Homes and to care for the vulnerable and our elderly, which fit into that definition of who is vulnerable. Unused tremendous Testing Capacity in our country. We have a tremendous unused Testing Capacity. It is something a lot of other nations are very impressed with, they tell us. Get up path forward, we will continue to follow a sciencebased approach while enabling healthy americans to safely go back to work and school. Our country will be open. Our country is getting open quickly. Our stock markets are almost back to where they were prior to the china virus disaster coming in. I want to thank you all for being here, and we will take questions. Qanoning the pandemic the movement appears to begin a lot of followers. Can you tell me what you think about this movement . Muchdo not understand about the movement other than they like me very much. I do not know much about the movement. I heard that it is gaining in popularity. , when theyeople watch the streets of portland, what happened in new york city and the last six or seven months, but this was starting four years ago when i first came in. These are people that do not like seeing what is going on in places like portland, chicago, new york and other cities and states. I have heard these are people that love our country and they do not like seeing it so i do not know anything about it other than that they do supposedly like me, and they also would like to see problems in these areas, especially the areas we are talking about, go away, because there is no reason democrats cannot run a city. If they cannot, we will send in all of the federal, whether it is troops, law enforcement, whatever they like. We will send them in, straighten out their prominent at the problem in 24 hours. The crux of this theory is that you were secretly saving the world from this satanic cult , pedophile. That. Ave not heard is that supposed to be a bad thing or a good thing . If i can help save the world from problems, i will do it. I will put myself out there. We are saving the world from a radical left philosophy that will destroy this country, and when this country is gone, the rest of the world would follow. The rest of the world would follow. At that is the importance of this country. When you look at some of the things these people are saying with defund the police and no borders, open borders, everybody just pour right into our country , no testing, no nothing. You talk about testing. No testing. Mexico has a high rate of infection. Be 300l is now going to miles long. Our numbers are extraordinary on the border. Perhapsthrough luck more through talent. You do not hear talk about the wall anymore. I will say this. We need strength in our country, not weakness. Too much weakness. Mr. President , you have been very bullish on the promise of convalescent plasma. The fda seem to be on the brink of issuing an emergency use of convalescent plasma. Pause. Has put that on your reaction to that and do you believe convalescent plasma it should be in the arsenal of treatments . It. Hear great things about i think it could be a political decision. You have a lot of people over there that do not want to rush things because they want to do it after november 3. You have heard that one before. I have heard fantastic things about convalescent plasma, and i have heard numbers way over 50 success, and people are dying. We should have it approved if it is good. I am hearing it is good. I have heard from people at the fda that is good. It is my understanding the white house will encourage the nih and fda to get this out there as quickly as possible. At the numbers are as good as im hearing, i am hearing over 50 , and that is very good. We have approved things at 31 , and that is not too bad. It is had a tremendous impact. Somethinglling me that surprises me, but we will check it out after this. Are you worried about a delay . I do not want to laze. I do not want people dying. You about yourk. Do you want the federal government to stop buying goodyear products as well . I do not like goodyear, because they are playing politics. The people who work with goodyear, i pull very well with all of those great workers. When they say you cannot have blue lives matter, you cannot but you can have other things that are marxist in is ke it impossible for people to do business if they are republican or conservative. They put out all sorts of effort, do not shop there. Things, notous different from what you saw on the streets of portland. That is up to people. I would not recommend it. If they want to hold political speech. If they want to let do not do what everybody is doing, if they hat or aear a maga blue lives you know i blue police menr, that is and women. They are using their power over these people. These people want to wear whatever it is that they are talking about we are talking about. About verytalking much in favor of people not wanting to buy their. We set a jobs record over the last quarter, the most jobs ever in the history of our country. Thatnk it is disgraceful they did this. You have said the arrest of jimmy lai in hong kong is a terrible thing. Do you have a message . I sent him my best wishes. I care he is a wonderful gentleman. He is certainly a brave man, and i sent him brave wishes. Because of that and obviously what happened in hong kong, we have taken the vast amount of money we use to subsidize hong kong. We essentially subsidize hong kong by giving them all sorts of incentives, and that is what made hong kong the exchange and business in hong kong successful. I have taken it all back. United states will do a lot more business. We gave them tremendous incentive and subsidy in order that they be successful for freedom. Now that the freedom obviously seems to have been taken away, we will keep all of the incentives we were giving them, billions and billions of dollars, and all of that business will come into our country, including the New York Stock Exchange and nasdaq. It will all come here. I feel badly for him, because i hear he is a good person. Obviously, a very brave person. You, mr. President. Ministeriraqi prime coming in tomorrow to meet with you, how do you feel about this notion that iraq can once again be called a buffer between iranian influence and russian influence in the middle east . Do you feel under this Prime Minister that is possible once again . This is a man that i get along with very well. We are largely out of iraq. I said we are getting out of these endless wars, these ridiculous endless wars. We should have never been there in the first place. We should have never been there in the middle east, but we are getting out rapidly. Over the course of three years, getting out is very sticky, and some people agree, and many people do not agree. I think most people very much agree. We are doing very well in our negotiations with afghanistan, with getting out. We are down to a much smaller and youf people there, know i greet men and women coming home and coming home after they have been hit. We have many left over. We had many bodies coming back in, edit we have been there 19 years and we are basically policeman as opposed to soldiers, and they will have to police their own states. They have been doing that for thousands of years. Soldiersyears that is have come home, they have done an incredible job, but they are not allowed to fight to win, and maybe they should not be, since a lot of the people it is not there fark. Their fault. With the taliban going to iraq in numbersre down taking place. Hitnything, and you will be like you have never been hit before. We are doing very well. Syria, the same thing. Remember when i took all of the soldiers off the border between syria and turkey, right . They said, this is terrible. Why do we have the soldiers between syria and turkey . A very Good Relationship with president erdogan. Syria has been fighting forever. I said, why are they guarding our border . Nothing has happened. They have been fighting like they have been for thousands of years. Nothing has happened, and nobody mentioned that. This is a disaster. Nothings happened. We are getting out of the endless wars, and we are building a military the likes of ,hich the world has never seen 2. 5 trillion we have spent and we hopefully do not ever have to use it. We want to focus on a much bigger picture, because we have a much bigger picture. When you look at what china is doing, what russia is doing, what some other countries are doing, we want to be ready just in case there is a catastrophe. We do not want to see that, ever use it. We have rebuilt our military, new missiles, rockets, new tanks. , and we havehe usa upgraded incredibly our nuclear ourbility and some of nuclear needed nourishment and renewed strength. We have upgraded significantly. To a level nobody would even believe, and hopefully you pray to god we never have to use it, ok . We have never been in a position where we have been the strong. [inaudible] you mentioned other countries are interested in following suit. Do you expect saudi arabia will emiratis have the expressed interest in the f. F35. They definitely have money to pay for it. Them like how about paying this back later, but they never pay because they do not have the money. They have the money and they would like to order quite a few f35s. It is the greatest fighter jet in the world, totally stealth. A asking applied it pilot, which you think is better talking about russian planes, chinese planes. The advantage we have is you cannot see it. When we are fighting, they cannot see us. I said that sounds like a big advantage to me. [inaudible] pres. Trump i said to these pilots that they look better than tom cruise, and they are definitely tougher, and he is a nice guy, but these people are amazing. I speak to him a lot about it, what do you think as i go around to the various places. At the big one in florida is an big one inthe florida is an example. It is the greatest plane in the world. One thing about that kind of thing, hightechnology, the greatest plane does not last long if somebody comes up with something else, but we are always the ones to come up with something else. They would like to buy f35s. They have made a great advance in peace in the middle east. Even the New York Times thought it was an incredible deal. Don freeman had a very nice thing to say. It is terrific. I see a lot of countries coming in, trailing quickly. Ultimately, iran will coming too. There will be peace in the middle east. Iran will be very much neutralized. They never thought this could happen. With the horrendously stupid iran deal signed by obama, this could have never happened. On the goodyear issue, you write on goodyear tires and the president ial limousine. Alternative,n would you have them swapped out . Pres. Trump i would. You have a lot of people not wanting to buy their product anymore. They will buy from a competitor made in the usa. [inaudible] she says he says he hopes that you would take the job more seriously. Pres. Trump when i look at this and see the horror that he left us, the stupidity of the transactions he has made. Look at what we are doing, we have that great border wall, our uae deal, which has been universally praised, praised by people who were not exactly fans of donald trump for various reasons. I do not know why. It cannot be my personality. It they are not fans. Look at how bad he was, and how ineffective a president he was. He was so ineffective, so terrible. Slow is going recovery in the do notnce 1929 forget, until the china virus came in, we have the greatest economy in the history of the world, and now we are doing it again. I will have to do it a second time. You heard the numbers. They are way way down on the virus. When you look at the kind of numbers we are producing at the stock market. Nasdaq and s p are higher than they were at their highest point prior to the china virus coming in, the plague coming in. President obama did not do a good job, and the reason i am of president se obama and joe biden. If they did a good job, i would not be here. Probably if they had done a good job, i would not have even a run. I enjoyed my previous life. They did such a bad job that i stand before you as president. Thank you all very much. Three of this virtual Democratic National committee in. Begin at theill Wisconsin Center in downtown milwaukee and moved to the chase ,nter at wilmington, delaware where senator Kamala Harris will introduce herself to a nationwide audience as she accepts the Vice President s nomination and make history. Other speakers will include senator elizabeth warren, the speaker of the house nancy pelosi, the 2016 democratic nominee hillary clinton, and former president barack obama. The gavel will come down at the top of the hour. We went to turn to emily larson. She covers politics for the washington examiner. She is joining us from arlington. What does the Biden Campaign need to accomplish tonight . Harriss speech is going to mention serves not only to introduce herself to the country. This will be when a lot of voters are first turning into the president ial election and taking a closer look at who Kamala Harris is. She is expected to talk a lot about her own personal history and lean into the historical nature of her candidacy. She is the daughter of immigrants. She is being introduced by her sister, her niece, and her stepdaughter. She is going to learn into that personal nature. Not only that, use her own personal story about how she grew up in the values that her mother instilled within her and use that as part of the argument that donald trump is not leading the nation that is representing the values that she grew up with. That is what we have so far from her, and i am sure there will be a few surprises throughout the night. The location for the speech not far from wilmington. That is where former president barack obama will deliver his speech. The significance of that venue . This is a venue that represents where the birthplace of america is, talking about the revolution, how much people sacrificed in order to leave england and form our new country, and so this is a very important location for president obama, because his entire speech, what we have so far is expected to have very strong , and about President Trump makes this very serious call to action. I pretty start contrast to the speak a pretty stark contrast to the speech he gave, a speech that he gave. The message of unity. This time, the experts he has rts we have excepr so far cerpt. Y is an ex i have set with both men looks at the oval office. I never expected i did help for the sake of a country that donald trump my chosen interest in taking the job seriously, but he never did. He has shown no interest in putting in the work, no interest in finding common ground, no interest in using the awesome power of the office to help anybody but himself and his friends, no interest in treating the presidency as anything but one more reality show to get the attention he craves. In to trump is not grown the job because he cannot. The consequences are severe. This is definitely a very serious speech from president obama. One thing that is interesting is that he was originally supposed to be the last speaker of the night, wrapping up the and reportedly, after Kamala Harris was and is to be joe bidens running mate, it was president obamas idea that perhaps they should switch places. His speech will serve not only to condemn President Trump and talk about the urgency of voting for joe biden but also set up Kamala Harris and introduce her alsoe country, and perhaps as a symbol of the next generation of leadership in the democratic party. The 2016 nominee hillary clinton, she is going to say this cannot be another could have, should have, would have moment. What we hear from her tonight . Hillary clinton speech is being thought of as more of an i told you so speech but also a reminder, a warning of what could happen this year if voters who decided to sit out or vote for a thirdparty candidate, people who are largely blamed for tipping swing states toward the front getting the Electoral College victory in 2016. She is referencing their a lot of people who might be underwhelmed or disgusted with politics, not wanting to participate, trying to convince then this is the time to go to the polls and vote for joe biden rather than President Trump. We will check in with you after the Convention Coverage concludes. Emily larson joining us from arlington, virginia. Our coverage continues tonight. We are in milwaukee, wilmington, delaware. It is Available Online at cspan. Org starting now. Good evening, and welcome to the third night of the Democratic National convention. Last night, we nominated our candidate for president of the United States, joe biden. We also reaffirmed our values as a party but the party of resilience and hope, empathy and inclusion. This is the party that fired me up as a gunman in the 1960s, registering voters with the Student Nonviolent Committee and the mississippi delta and campaigning. It is the party thatau
