I look forward to seeing you soon. Im honored to be with you today. I want to buy start by thinking for this opportunity to share my vision. You for yournk opening remarks. Weve seen a lot of ups and downs for the Latino Community. None more stark than the last 3. 5 years. Donald trump and his administration have pursued an all out assault on latino communities, from the moment he came down that golden escalator saying he would go after mexican rapist. Remember . Thats how he started his campaign. It started the moment he announced his presidency. Fanning the flames of fear and racism against latinos. Its baked into every aspect about how he governed. This week was a poignant reminder of the terrible consequences of allowing that kind of hate to grow unchecked. I thought we could defeat hate. It hides under the rocks. , it comessident roaring out. A gunman explicitly sought to target latinos. 23 beautiful lives were stolen from us and their families. I know what its like to lose a child. I know what its like to lose a wife. Its awful. Awful. Tarkly the mistakes of trumps irresponsible policies, of division and hate that he promotes, is real. These are lifeanddeath decisions. Whether its repeated attacks on dreamers or his campaign of terror against immigration. His neglect of puerto rico after court hurricane maria, failures to make sure essential workers have the ppe they need. Donald trump has failed the Latino Community time and time again. Asked, how areu we going to make real a better life for latinos . Thats the key question. Countryre of our depends on how we answer it. Thats how important it is. Heres the gods honest truth. The future success of the country will depend on our ability to make sure latinos have opportunities and the tools to succeed. They are among the Fastest Growing population in the United States. Already, one quarter of our schoolchildren are latino. Strong andhave a driving republic if we dont fully deal them into American Life . They are not someone elses kids. They are our kids. They lift our National Ambitions aloft. I release my latino agenda. Things ive been working on all along. I put them in one place. Its a conference of plan. Not just for how we will undo the harms of the trump ministry to, but how we will make sure latinos are included in our plans to build back better. That means investing in economic mobility. Thats the basis of it all. Economic mobility. Everything for making sure Small Business owners can access capital, making it easier for families to buy a home, to build intergenerational wealth. How did every other middleclass person do it . They were able to buy a home and build equity in the home and pass it on from generation to generation. One of the four planks of my plan is about addressing racial inequities across the entire economy. Its about breaking the cycle where in good times, would you latino communities lie behind. In bad times, they get hit first and the hardest. In the recovery, they take the longest a bounce back. Are going to use every tool at our disposal to take on these inequities. My agenda also focuses on ending racebased health disparities. Latinos are among the biggest beneficiaries of the formal care act with millions gaining insurance for the first time. The uninsured rate job from 32 from 19 . My plan would bring it down to zero. Thats what an incredible when, it was a significant when for the communities. In the midst of a pandemic, with lost partad, families of their soul, heart, donald trump is trying to strip people of their Health Care Coverage in court. In the middle of a pandemic. Latinos are bearing some of the heaviest burdens. Because they disproportionately serve in caregiving roles on the frontline jobs and increase the risk of exposure, and save other people. Its unconscionable. I will protect obamacare and build on it. So that everything a person can have access to highquality, Affordable Health care. When it comes to fighting the pandemic, we have to be crystal clear. Everyone gets free access to testing and treatment. When its available, a vaccine. Everyone gets it. We have to fight this virus without regard to immigrant status. Thats the only way we will beat this thing. Its the only humane thing to do. We will expand access to highquality education and take on the racial inequities in our education system. That starts early. Making sure highquality prek is available to every child four years old. Studies show it increases the prospects of the of success. All the way through making sure that Post High School education is affordable for latino students. Ensuring public colleges are tuition free for families making less than 125,000 a year. Doubling pell grant, increasing funding. I started by speaking about the tragedy in el paso one year ago. We also know latinos suffer everyday from hate crimes and gun violence. It doesnt always make national headlines. Under my administration, we will get weapons of war out of our communities. Im going to take the fight directly to the nra and hold gun manufacturers accountable for the damage they caused latino families. We will restore our values. Trump fails to understand the basic truths of immigrants. They are the incredible source of our nations strength and they always have been, all the way back to the 1860s. My irish ancestors jumped on coffin ships, not knowing where they were going, all the way to today. Its the reason we been able to constantly renew and remake ourselves. Weve been able to cherry pick the best of every culture. It takes courage to leave your country. From every continent, every background. Thats why we are who we are. If im elected president , we will end trumps assault on the dignity of immigrant communities. We will restore our moral standing in the world, our historic role as a safe haven for refugees and asylumseekers. Those fleeing violence and persecution. My lord. Weve never made asylumseekers seek asylum outside of the United States. The inhumane practice of separating children from their parents. We will work to reunite families. Look at all the families that are not reunited. We will stop detaining people indefinitely, invest on Case Management programs to help ensure migrants get the support they need while they are navigating the asylum process. It will cost a lot of money. Its a lot cheaper than building a wall. We will restore sensible enforcement priorities and stop terrorizing latino communities. The idea that you would wait outside 10 00 mass to grab someone from church, the anxiety for the children, the anxiety is overwhelming. It will have a profound impact. We will protect reamers and their families. And every single agreement that the Trump Administration signed to turn local Law Enforcement into immigration officials. Day one, i will send congress a bill for Immigration Reform that will focus on keeping families together. Its about families. Including providing a clear roadmap to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants. Stop treating them the ways they been treated. In and in reaching communities everything ok. I know thats a pretty big agenda. This is a moment to get it done. Have lifted the blinders off of so many people in the country, on who is really essential to our economic stability. Its not wall street bankers. The middle class. Hardworking Union Members fighting for the rights of all workers. The folks in the Latino Community who are busting their next every day to keep the country running. I believe, i do believe we are ready to close the respect gap, the dignity cap, the wage gap, the opportunity gap. So many latino workers have suffered for so long. My dad used to have an expression. We had toay, when move down to delaware. My dad never went to college. He was a good man. He is to say, a job is about a lot more than a paycheck. Its about you dignity. Its about respect. Its about honor. Its about being able to look your kid in the eye and say, it will be ok. Thats what were going to do. Dignity, honor, treating people with dignity. We can build a new administration that reflects the full diversity of our nation and the full diversity of the latino communities. Diversity, youl are from everywhere. From europe, from the tip of south america, all the weight to our border with mexico and in the caribbean. Backgrounds, different ethnicities. All latinos. We will get a chance to do that if we win in november. It means we need everyone to get out and vote. I cant do this without your help. The path to victory in november is contingent upon latino voters , particularly in battleground states. Im committed to speaking directly to the concerns of the Latino Community and to mobilizing latino voters. I have a significant staff, trying to advertise on latino stations and Spanish Speaking stations. We need everything the voter to getting gauged in our campaign. We need you to get out and vote with your family and your friends. Make sure that people know how to register, how to vote safely during the pandemic. Provide voters with more options, not fewer. Expand the options for participation. No excuse absentee ballots. You get it just because you need one and one. Increased in person early voting. Have another poll workers to sanitize the machines and make sure we can socially distance. Without taking away meaningful opportunities to vote in person on election day. Our campaign is putting together the largest Border Protection effort in United States history. We know that we have to. Weve already seen the impact that the pandemic has had on Voting Rights and voting during the primaries. We know. We know that Voter Suppression was alive and well in america before the Public Health crisis. Make no mistake about it. As you pointed out, the census is part of this, too. Everyone needs to be counted. Four former Census Bureau directors who have worked under nine president s, both democrats and republicans, have called on the senate and administration to work to extend the deadline so we get an accurate count. And arturo, you mentioned the Voting Rights act at the beginning. Well, today, it happens to be the 55th anniversary of its enactment. I worked like hell to extend that act when i was chairman of the Foreign Relations committee. Throughout my career going back to 1975. Back then, in 2013, though, the Supreme Court came along and stripped the teeth out of the Voting Rights act. They said it was no longer necessary. Im going to make sure its reinserted if congress doesnt get it done and the remaining months of this congress. Just last year, 29 states introduced or carried over bills to try to make it harder for people to vote, period. This is blatantly unamerican. Just last year, 29 states, 29. And at the senate, republican senate, Mitch Mcconnell and donald trump do not take up the bill newly renamed in honor of my friend john lotus to restore the act to its full power, i will do that on my first day as president. What i want to say is thank you. Thank you for the opportunity to speak. , and you again, arturo for what youaleo were doing. To make the country stronger. You make us all better. That is not hyperbole. The country is better, stronger, or prosperous, more decent, more honorable if we in fact reach out and get the largest population of immigrants in the states andhe united include them across the board. It is a source of amazing strength for us. Opennk because of this prices and unemployment crisis, i think the American People are seeing that now. At least i hope that is the case. I am going to need your help to get all of this done. God bless you the perjury case against president trumps former National Security advisor Michael Flynn will be on tuesday. The panel of 10 judges will decide whether a Federal District court judge must dismiss the charges against flynn as recommended by the justice department. Hear the case live tusday at 9 30 live eastern on tuesday on cspan, on cspan. Org or listen live with every radio app. President trump visited a whirlpool manufacturing plant in ohio.
