Former newspaper editor. We want you to join the conversation with your questions on twitter. Send any mail send any mail send an email. Make sure to check the box that says you are not a robot. Or, you may give us a call. Please include your first and last name on all messages. Welcome to you all, i appreciate you being here this evening. I appreciate you being here, and i hope the rest of kentucky does as well. Im going to get right down to business. In the last few days, it has been a trying last few days in kentucky and across the nation. Protests have erupted in response to the killing of george floyd in minneapolis, Rihanna Taylor, who was shot eight times while she was in her home, and today, we understand the killing of a Business Owner in louisville. A lexington minister said last week during one of Governor Press bashirs conferences, and i quote when he was talking about racial injustice, he said that its not the minority population that has been silenced, but rather the blessed. Has been how have you actively sought to be a part of the solution, to hear racial divisions, and not just render action was rhetoric, actionless rhetoric, and name one specific action that you commit to doing, win or lose this race, going forward. Thank you for starting this forum off the right way, by addressing the challenges that kentuckians are facing as we speak. I barely made it today because i streets were so many kentuckians are demanding justice and accountability. What were seeing now in louisville and all over our country, across our commonwealth, people feel ignored and abandoned. They feel like justice is not accountable to them. They feel like their humanity is ignored and the ninth. There he specifically, they are feeling the weight of Structural Racism and in equity that has permeated for generations. And whyonly on those im running for u. S. Senate to beat Mitch Mcconnell because we need real change. Not just tweets, not just words. Government of demanding for change and accountability. Even in this moment of racial tension and angst in our community, we need to get rid of no knock warrants. That allowedmic for Rihanna Taylor to be killed in her home, and her century. And we need to reform and reimagine how we engage with police. Instead of a militaristic operation, how do we bring more partnership and collaboration to the community and create more accountability with subpoena power . On going to fight for that. And also for Law Enforcement trust and integrity. How we make sure that we are accounting for the Racial Disparities and our justice system. Same question to you. Today, i will add that Tamika Palmer demanded justice for her daughter earlier this morning. The family once the Police Officers to be charged, they wanted to be fired first and eventually charged in her death. And what specific policy proposal would you be committed to, win or lose . I do agree, i think that the firing of the chief of police of louisville metro is maybe too late, obviously. I think its a good start. Which candidate. Which came today which candidate. Which which came today. Which came today, yes. As time went on, things sped up. They went from the black jewel minors having their wages stolen and then the impeachment hearing, impeachment trial. A Global Pandemic has left over 110,000 americans dead. Now, the great cities of our country are burning, and that cold for social and Economic Justice is not a request, it is a demand. What does it look like in your view . What will you do . First, we have to demilitarize our police forces. Weve been telling them there has been a war on drugs for decades. You tell someone they are at war for long enough, and they start believing they are at war. We can stop selling military equipment to police forces. Theres no reason that a Municipal Police Department Needs to have armored vehicles. It sets the wrong mindset in the police, the police think they are at war, war needs an enemy, and the enemy too many times has been americans. So this is an issue when it comes to dogooders asian of police, argrr u. S. Senator rand paul even agrees with. He wrote an oped a few years ago about Law Enforcement becoming to militarize and washington incentivizing them to do so for some of the same reasons they already spoken of. Your position on demilitarization of police, the you believe that Police Dangerous and that there is Structural Racism in Law Enforcement . There is Structural Racism in america. The death of Rihanna Taylor and mackey yd and david e are mackey mcatii tragic. Communities are hurting. Their voices are not being heard, and thats why this protests. As leaders, the first thing we need to do is listen. We need to listen to them. The second thing we need to do a command to foster climate. In the military, when you have a unit, everybody that is under you is a reflection of the leader. Their actions are a reflection of that leadership. In the case of george floyd, in minneapolis, and his tragic and unfortunate death, you not only have a bad cop doing terrible things, but you have three other cops looking on doing nothing. Thats when talking about. We have to foster a command climate within the Police Community that tackles some of this. The one of those other offices to be charged in minneapolis . Those othernt officers to be charged in minneapolis . The first thing we have to do is get a complete investigation on all of this. It is so important to make sure that we have trust between the police and communities. I think Rihanna Taylors mother said Rihanna Taylor taylors brianna mother said it best, no more violence. Which you have leaders that dont try to escalate the situation, but the escalate. Many are making the point that there are protesters and then there are rioters and those are two different groups. I want to ask you this question about Police Brutality. The Washington Post has been lauding fatal shootings by onduty police logging onduty shootings fatal shootings by onduty Police Officers. The rate at which black americans are killed by police is more than twice as high as the rate for white americans. Do you believe there is a culture of systemic racism, and how do we go about ending it . Absolutely. It is systemic, it is structural, it is institutional. And i appreciate my colleagues listening to those were most affected, because its my family. Thats my story. I live there. Ive been in those streets demanding justice after my cousins were murdered. This isnt a tweaked for me, it isnt aspirational. Now, andesults right it means we have to a knowledge the challenges within our institutions. You see someone who looks like me who doesnt come from a lot, they are a human being. Yes, we are about accountability within our Law Enforcement, but its very structural and it goes across the board. We criminalize poverty. Do you expect a different outcome and a different response . I worked with the mayor today and i released some proposals this morning including full whyuntability to understand the police are using military force as if they are at war with taxpaying citizens. And i helped and technology these officers that killed. Rianna taylor should be fired we have a lot of work to do. We are taking some good stents, but we need to keep going urgently. Do you agree that the Kentucky National guard should have been deployed for the area, or just having that military presence signal Something Else to the community that they are supposedly serving . Ive made it clear that, no, the escalation that has come at the hands of Law Enforcement and many of these folks are people that i love dearly. There are so many good people in Law Enforcement who want us to be safe, but they took an adversarial posture to people who are hurting and demanding to be accounted for, and it continued to escalate and now the barbecue man, as we call him, has been killed. Should the Kentucky National guard be called off . I dont think so. It is a typical operation. I was coming into the building tonight with my wife and there was a young Law Enforcement officer out there, and he looked like, no offense to him, but he looked like a lady. I cannot imagine him facing a crowd and what thoughts would be going through his mind. The National Guardsmen are no different from that. They mostly not received training. This is a very difficult thing to do. Whattried to understand the view was, but it blew up. I still do not understand where the shooting is coming from. The hundreds of cameras rolling on the streets, no one can say where the shooting is coming from. It does not make any sense to me at all. I were the uniform of the United States for 24 years. Anytime somebody wears the uniform, whether its a Police Uniform or the uniform of the military, you are held to a higher standard. You are in a position of public trust. That comes with a lot of responsibility and it comes with accountability. That comes of leadership. A tragic event happens, the first thing we need to do to have an independent investigation, make sure that we find all the facts, and hold people accountable. I think its so important because we need police. We need police in our community, and that relationship between the police and everyday people, there has got to be a trust. How would you advocate improving Police Impunity relations . Community relations . Youve got to listen to people of color. They are living that. I think there are some common sense things we can do. Theres legislation right now at the federal level to make sure that anytime Something Like this occurs where there is a deadly use of force that is controversial, that police use that investigation happens that is taken outside the chain of command and is looked out from a different entity, a federal entity. I think those things are really important to continue to make sure that we have that trust between communities and the police force. A question on the Second Amendment, any mail from addie rogers of madison county. What are the candidates thoughts on the Second Amendment, and what do the candidates plan to do to combat gun violence . Excellent question. Im very proud to be a candidate of distinction and i actually my firstdemand action week campaigning and ive been on board ever since. They realize it is kentucky, and it is a gun state. The goals are universal background checks and red flag laws. Both of those laws have come out of the house with overwhelming bipartisan support. Overwhelming bipartisan support in the senate, but they did not move forward for one reason because Mitch Mcconnell doesnt want them to, because he is in the pocket of the gun industry and the nra. The laws are completely supported by the american people, even most members of the nra. To first thing we are going do is clear off Mitch Mcconnell desk and pass the violence against women act. Im a mother of three small kids, and my kids have to go through School Shooting drills, something i never thought that i would have to see as a mother. Time, im somebody who fought for this country. I was a marine for 20 years. I am proSecond Amendment, im a gun owner. We got to start with that think that most gun owners agree should happen. And that is a better background check. We all want to keep weapons out of the hands of people who are going to hurt our kids and our children and us. And so that is the first step, something that senator Mitch Mcconnell wont take action on because he is bought by special interests. The cdc and the nih should be able to study gun violence as a health concern. The violence against women act, it has been sitting on senator desk, it is unbelievable that he will not act on that. Those are just some of the things i would do. Mr. Booker, same question. First of all, i would like to stress that this is very personal to me, and im speaking right now for a whole lot of people who never get heard and im the only person sitting up here, but it is worse on the ground in kentucky with people who understand the importance of the Second Amendment and also understand the critical importance of common sense gun safety. One of the things that i know is critically important right now is that we have the leadership to say that we are not pushing for common sense gun safety to to the Second Amendment, but we are looking to honor it by making sure is not being abused. That is also why i am a gun sends candidate as well and endorsed by every town during my state house because people understand where i stand. Because they know where i stood. Understanding that gun violence is a Public Health crisis, we need to address it comprehensively. When my cousin teacher was murdered on Easter Sunday a couple years ago, a young man that pulled the trigger to kill him was dealing with a lot of issues. There are so many things that permeate around incidents of violence that we cannot ignore everyone thinks to change. Yes, we need expanded background checks. We need to close loopholes, we need a real legislation. Thats why i cosponsored it in the statehouse. When we criminalize poverty, when we ignore the people of kentucky, we put people in a situation where their pain is not noticed, Mental Health issues are not taken care of, and when violence happens, we ask, why . Returning back to where we started, this question from louisville. Call forands, who will a complete overhaul of Law Enforcement in kentucky, and who will ask louisvilles mayor to resign . Are you raising your hand . Is that a yes or that you want to respond . I want to respond, it was a twopart question. Ive already been leaning on the overall. Cities united, comprehensive reduction of violence plans for mayors all across the country. Louisville is one of those cities. Gun violence is a Public Health crisis. Will you call for the resignation of mayor greg fisher . I believe that he needs to be accountable for what he is doing now, and that these officers should be fired. That needs to happen immediately and he needs to provide clear transparency on how he will make things better. So that is a no, you will not call for the resignation. If he could earn his stay. Same question to you. Its a twopart. Part first. E last would you be willing to call for the resignation of the louisville mayor . Does not take he responsibility for this and change things immediately, but the body cams need to come out pronto. I would not call for the resignation of the mayor. Now, leaders need to try to deescalate the situation, not escalate it. As a senator, what you should be doing is looking for ways at the federal level to make things better in this area. One of the things you can do, and there is legislation out there, to make sure that we have police, toning for make sure that the underlying issues that are causing a lot of this stuff, the underlying social injustice that we see. I want to be a senator that is committed to tackling those underlying issues, and im talking racial injustice, educational injustice, systemic injustice that you see, and the policies. We need a senator who is going to have policies that are going to tackle that, and not just talk about Police Brutality and move on. An undergraduate student in lexington asked this question. Have been on the ground in louisville with the protesters or elsewhere . I have not. Why . Ive been with my family and had some family things going on. We are in the middle of a pandemic. We also have to look at, is this the place to be right now . Same question to you. Campaign, i only have two hard and fast rules for my campaign staff. They dont talk about war, combat, rall or valor. We dont use people as props. I thought about it and i said if i went to louisville or even the opportunistic and i did not want to be put in that position. A i was a citizen, just regular old taxpayer, i would be with them. But i did not want to appear that i was taking advantage of people who are really suffering. The next comes from having ayer. We are not props. Do you support defunding the police and redirecting the funding to community is directly affected by Police Brutality and systemic racism . I think the police, we cant defund the police. We can fundamentally change them, but we cannot make them go away. Redirecting funds that are being wasted . Sure. But a better use of our money would be best. We have this cycle where politicians make laws, they get donations from people who run prisons, and create this process where people are the material that going to this machine. We need to break this cycle. I would rather take the profit out of prisons and use that for helping people instead of it going to pockets of politicians who keep this horrible cycle of imprisonment going. Thats where we need to break the money chain. Defunding police . Something we can working on for years, we have to reimagine policing. Theres a consolidate Amendment Act that essentially mandates more funding for Law Enforcement means that were not putting money on the ground in the community, where more can be done. No, we should not continue to fund more and more Law Enforcement, putting the pressure on them to be the arbiter of the faith community, when all they are being forced to do in most cases is take our doors in and shoot us, profile us, and justice isnt done. We have an opportunity to grow and to build a Better Future and lead in Public Safety like we really mean it. We should not be defunding police. Us men and women who protect , the vast majority of them are really good people, and professional. Again, we need to tackle this from a leadership perspective. We need to set a command climate where everybody is treated with respect and decency. And when you have a command climate like that, when this tragic events, first of all, theres less of them. Second of all, when it happens, you have an investigation that is prompt, quick, transparent, and something that the community can trust. I think its really important, and we should not be defunding the very people that protect us every day. We are going to move now to talk about covid19 relief and congressional aide and possibly another stimulus package. We know that on may 15, the house passed the heroes act. It includes another round of 1200 stimulus checks, more hazard pay for essential workers, nearly 1 trillion, and Financial Aid for local and state governments, increase Health Insurance coverage, and so on and so forth. Do you agree that this should be passed . Mcconnell hastch said that the bill is virtually dead on arrival. Your response . I think its really unfortunate that we have a senator that wouldnt even look there to that is out help state and local governments. As senatorwhat amy would be focusing on. We have a 500 million or so shortfall according to Governor Beshear if we dont get help. Senator mcconnell, in the last coronavirus bill, prioritized help for wall street. He prioritized help for big business, and for the special interests that power his campaign. Including the 80 of the tax cuts in that bill that went to the people who make over a million dollars. Here, now he calls for state and local governments to consider bankruptcy. Thats not where i would be at. In this bill that was passed in the house, it has money to prop up our state governments, specifically our firefighters, our school system, the everyday people we have, the infrastructure that we have in this country. I would be prioritizing that and i think those are the kinds of things we need to do. In addition, we need personal protective equipment, we need funding for voting, for the postal service. We need to have funding for first responders, we need to make sure that anybody that is going into a position of duty where we are requiring them to go to work in the middle of this pandemic, that they have hazard pay. These are all good things that i would be supporting right now if i were in the senate. Mr. Booker, would you support the heroes act, and do you think it goes far enough . Enough, butt go far in a very important point, outlining key focus points for coronavirus relief. Young black men with type one diabetes, im seeing how prettily important it is for concentrated disparities. Canceling rent is critically thattant, making sure vaccines are free is important. Canceling student debt. I have debt i dont think my wife and i will ever pay off. Of 1200, between paying for your insulin and paying for your lifestyle, you know thats not enough. Same question, and i do want to ask you, what issue has been brought to light or magnified as we dealt with this pandemic that you would be committed to answering, should you be able to serve in the United States senate . Absolutely. We have a Health Care System that is tied to employment. We are the only ones in the world. Weve just 40 million americans on unemployment. 40 million american households probably facing the greatest Health Care Crisis in the last 100 years. Thats why we do to have a singlepayer Health Care System. I want to build one from the ground up, for now, we need to make medicare for all available for everyone. I think advocating universal basic income when i first started my plan. We said 1200 per month. And what was the first payment that came out of congress . Folder dollars per month. 1200 per month. When the pandemic struck, i came out with it. For universal basic income, 2000 per month for adult. Now congress is actively talking about 2000 per month. Ubi fromo have a then on. Envision visual some type of universal basic income. Thats why i was endorsed by andrew yang and humanity forward. The reason that my numbers match those coming out of congress is because there is math behind them, and because weve done the math, we can implement it and pay for it. So, would you be for everyone having a universal basic income . Or should there be some income thresholds . At the university of a in a universal basic income, it goes to everybody. No checks. Ers . The 1 r 1 ers. The and the wisdom that someone say that giving that money to those who really dont need it doesnt make much sense, your response . Its about equalizing someone who is at that 1 who isnt even going to feel it. Its somebody who is living in poverty who is now dragged out of poverty, they are going to feel it. Bill gates is not going to care about that 1000, but somebody in poverty is going to have incredible change in their life. Critics would say that it equates to a handout and it would be incentivize work. Deincentivize work. Its just not true, it doesnt happen. There is a program like this in alaska, it has been in effect for 30 years. No one would say that alaskans are lazy and dont go to work. Every single place it has been tried it has proven not to be negative for labor at all. When i talk to people in the country, my neighbors are all farmers, but they farm in the headlights of their pickup trucks but theyve got to have another job. How different would your life be if you had 1200 per month . You can see the light come into their eyes. They feed their community, they are good workers, good wardens of the soil. Some kentuckians would say this is exactly what we fear, another plan for the socialist agenda. Choice, we give it to corporations or we give it to people. You give it to the working class, they spend that money, they spend it locally and it develops tremendous velocity and it gets spent over and over. Person, money to a rich like we did back in 2009 with the airline industry, we gave them 50 billion and they used 40 billion to buy back their own stock. I think there are major disparities and major income inequalities in america and in kentucky. I think its something we need to tackle. Heres the thing, weve got , her and hertucky husband both Public School teachers. They all have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Its not uncommon in kentucky. This is a real problem. I propose we do things like make peopley, the work that are already doing. This is a function of doing the things that senator mcconnell has not done. For example, lets not undermine unions. ,enator mcconnell has a long decadelong history of undermining unions. Those unions are the ones that work for Better Benefits and better pay. Lets raise the minimum wage. Tos invest in kentucky bring good quality, solid jobs. What would you raise the federal minimum wage to . Ive already called overtime for it to be raised over time to 15 per hour. But that is just one thing, thats not going to fix it all. What we need to do is something that senator mcconnell hasnt done in decades, and that is invest in us for the future. Here in kentucky, to get a good quality jobs of the 21st century, we need Workforce Development and real investment. And we need investment in 21stcentury infrastructure. Im talking not just roads, bridges, and dams, im talking broadband. Cell phone coverage. No business is going to want to come to a county in kentucky that cannot talk to the modern world. Thats what we see. A lot of places along the commonwealth. Dr. William brooks asks a question related to what we are talking about. They both had a lot of time to talk about michigan. You are all equal on time. Perhaps the greatest issue is kentucky with no employment. How would you work to improve his and you really think providing money to people is a way to improve the division . I live in and have grown up in one of the poorest zip codes in the state. My mom is watching you right now, a woman who lived without eating so that i could eat. Living in the west end of louisville, we have much more in common with appalachia than the rest of louisville. We need to invest in people. We need to break down where there is opportunity and provide equity in the economy that we have busted our butts to build. This includes the people in the mountains that have had their livelihoods ripped away from them, who have had to work day in and day out. That is why i support universal basic income and ive supported it for years. Of understanding that if we want to break the cycle of poverty, we need to make sure people have the Financial Freedom to make decisions in their lives, and we know that we can afford to do it. Why i have been endorsed by the Income Movement and why i have let on the ground, working with leadership at a local level to create pilots to move forward so we can invest in communities that have been abandoned. And we do that, and we raise wages, we need to do it have time we do not for incremental, and we need to expand industries. We need a kentucky new deal so we can create more sustainable jobs and invest in infrastructure mentioned before including broadband. If you are from a neighborhood like me, you lived in a desert digital desert. We need someone who understands that it is not just political talking points or outside consultants, but because you have lived it on the ground. That is why i am behind this movement and why i have been endorsed by the sunrise movements. A lot of kentuckians are rural and thinking that his experience is urban, the 43rd district, does he understand my plight and woes, make a case that you are the candidate that could best serve them. Charles i know what it feels like to be invisible and nobody cares about you. The reason i have to answer this question so much is because no one pays attention to my neighborhood. The west end of louisville, we have a couple of grocery stores, a handful of dollar stores, and if you need to use public transportation, they can take you a couple of hours. Jobs have left. Unemployment was around 30 for years. People in Eastern Kentucky know that struggle. High utility bills, they know what that is about, and that is why i campaign is Building Momentum and we will build the momentum to win this race. You have talked about democrats running republican lite, do you believe ms. Mcgrath is one of those candidates and it is a path to defeat . Mike absolutely. This, ande problem is 2018, for example, she was critical of Brett Kavanaugh, and then she lost her race. And then in 2020 running for u. S. Senate, she changed her mind and said that she would have voted to elevate Brett Kavanaugh to the supreme court. There was a massive backlash by voters in kentucky, particularly women who saw this as an insult. And then she took it back, so she flipflopped again and again. On this issue that should be a nobrainer for any kind of progressive candidate. We have this history in kentucky for the last 35 years of running nice, but centrist candidates against Mitch Mcconnell and getting creamed every time. If you want to excite people, you have to give them a vision, a progressive idea, and that is what it is important. We have this transactional leadership where everything is focused on money. Let us be transformational leaders. Let us for described a future and provide them a path forward. I do want to get to the point about you did come under fire for waffling on the question of justice kavanaugh, so some questioned if that was an unsteady position that signaled that you had undisciplined messaging and it raised questions about your judgment. How can you assure voters that you will exercise decisive leadership when it counts . Amy look. I am running because i want to be a voice for everyday kentuckians. For people like angie, she is trying to meet to make ends meet, and cannot because of Prescription Drug prices. Have a her husband, they daughter, who is 12 years old, who is diabetic. We have six bills sitting on Mitch Mcconnells desk right now that could help her get Prescription Drug prices down. The issues that affect everyday polishedam not a politician. I am somebody who looks at things through the lens of being a wife, a mother, and a United States marine. Not seeou what, i do everything through a political lens. When i served, i did not look on the look at the marine on my left or right and say are you a democrat or republican. You know what i think we need with leaders right now, particularly in the senate . We need people who will work with anyone, who will do what is right for kentucky, who wears any jersey, whether it is red or blue, and that is who i am. To me it is about being an american first, and being a kentuckian first. You know what . I make mistakes like everyone else, that i will tell you what i learned. When you make one, you corrected, correct it. And that is what i did. I want to stick with you for a moment. You realize you need to attract some trump voters should you advance. You launched your candidacy you said that Trump Supporters wanted him to drain the swamp, but Mitch Mcconnell is the biggest swamp dweller there is. You contend that Mitch Mcconnell has blocked some of trumps agenda, and has not been able to keep some of the key campaign promises. That if you are elected to the u. S. Senate that you would support the trump agenda . Amy what i am saying is that i would support kentucky, and for so many kentuckians like angie, and her husband trying to figure out how to make ends meet, and when President Trump came here to kentucky and said that Prescription Drugs is something he wants to work on. Guess why that has not happened . Because Mitch Mcconnell is bought off by big pharma. What is another issue that you agree with President Trump on . Amy infrastructure. The president said we need to fix our infrastructure, we do. Which mcconnell said infrastructure is a nonstarter in the senate. The other thing i would like to mention is that not only what i work with any president , because i think this is the problem, one of the major problems. We are too polarized. I will stand up to any president regardless of whether he or she, someday, wears a red or blue jersey when it comes to the constitution of the United States of america, which i swore to uphold and defend six times in my life, or when it is bad for kentucky. I will stand up to any president. For example, with President Trump, his trade policies and the trade war is hurting kentucky. I have said from the moment that this was a policy consideration that it would be wrong. To me, it is not about your party, and being proor antione person, it is about being prokentucky and prothe things that we need in every day people, and we have to get back to that. If you were elected you would find ways to work with President Trump if he was reelected . Amy i think that is what people want . Wouldnt you want somebody who is going to do what is right for kentucky. This is the opposite of what Mitch Mcconnell is. He has somebody who is constantly pushing for to some function when somebody of the other party is in power, that is why he is so bad, that is why he is so bad for kentucky, and our country because it is about obstruction and partisanship. It is not that way for me, that is why i say i will work with everybody anybody to do what is right for kentucky and i will have the guts to stand up any what to anyone when it is right for kentucky. There have been several questions from abortion so i will ask one from sherry branson. I will start with you mr. Booker. Charles i stand firmly for a womans right to choose. I want to make a point. You understand the challenges that kentuckians face, you do not run as a pro trump democrat and do not play political games or convince folks to get to vote for you because you are not as bad as Mitch Mcconnell. We can smell bs from a mile away, and i stood up for the rights of women because i know what it means to see someone that i care about so deeply that i will lay down and die for have her voice silenced in Health Care Decisions that could have taken her life away. That is why i am proud to be one of the few men that would always stand up and speak out and speak up for not only reproductive justice, but Maternal Health care and expanding resources and the disproportionate impact on women of color, and that is why plannedeen endorsed by parenthood and that is why they built these coalitions because they know i am not afraid to back down. People need to know that they will have a leader who will go all across kentucky with moral clarity and not back down. When they do that, even with folks does when folks disagree, they will respect you. On questions of reproductive freedom, where do you stand . Mike roe v. Wade was correctly decided. I will not put a judge on the federal bench that does not agree that, and judges are key. I know things are nuts in the country, and i know the news is full of things that are keeping people a little bit distracted, but Mitch Mcconnell and Lindsey Graham are telling us what is going on. Mitch mcconnell has been signaling deseret year. We told kentucky i am changing america forever. He was talking about judges. Lindsey graham was asking older judges to step aside, and what he said in that press conference was that President Trump has appointed one out of five federal judges with Lifetime Appointments and senator mcconnell once these older judges, and 60 is not old for a judge, to step aside to put a 30 or 40yearold on the bench. Mitch mcconnell says he is changing america forever, he is talking about judges hostile to women, people of color, lgbtq, immigrants, labor, everyone who is not an old white man. I want to go back to the original question with ads that say you support abortion in the last months of pregnant see, so clarify your stance. Amy i am the mother of three small kids, and i am also catholic, and i grew up with Catholic Schools and this issue has been around me and my family my entire life. It is important to me. That the not believe government should be legislating my personal religious beliefs on my fellow americans or fellow kentuckians. These personal family decisions should stay with the family. And, not that they are not decisions for the government. I am in agreement with the cons text the context that we have reasonable restrictions on abortion. Let me make this clear. I am not for lateterm abortions and i never have been. So, there are questions about the pandemic and we will revisit topics that we have before and have a lightning round. This comes from betty of bardstown, what legislation would you propose to rebuild our economy after this pandemic . Mike i have a plan to enter assassin to a transition in arena economies with several coproducing states, and West Virginia and down in tennessee. And i am talking to them about us not going to washington and asking, but demanding that we bring social and Economic Justice to appalachia, and how do we do this . We do this through infrastructure, theyd infrastructure. I am talking Work Project Administration level infrastructure. The key to that will be turning Eastern Kentucky and all of apalachicola producing area into a Green Energy Hub for the eastern half of the United States, which is roads, broadband, watcher for Martin County where they cannot rank the water. What is the price tag . Mike i do not know what the proposal is, but i can tell about the payback period, seven years. Isar, seven years later it paid for itself and the energy is paying for itself. That is a relatively good return on something you can get free energy from. You do not have to believe in climate change, i happen to, what you do a largescale Green Energy Program and put people to work, building infrastructure, and industry follows infrastructure, so people with other businesses will come to kentucky and appalachia, and it will not put not only put the coal miners to work, but their children to work. What does a post covid era economy look like from your perspective, and what plans would you ads to bolster the economy . Charles let us make something clear, we were dealing with structural inequity before the pandemic, and gross poverty. Folks were rationing their insulin like i had to do before the pandemic. What that means is we have to deal with structural challenges that have been exacerbated. We have to prioritize people, that is why support a green do neil. That is why i say we need a kentucky new deal, which means more Economic Opportunity at the same industries. Means dealing with the housing crisis so that people across kentucky do not have sustainable housing. It means wheat we need to provide good paying jobs and it also means that we need to break down the barriers for opportunity for more people to pursue their dreams and become Business Owners. As we do that, we need to pass medicare for all, because not only is it a health care policy, and an economic policy. Beyou are healthy, you can gainfully employed, own a business, and advance your education. As well, we need a universal basic income to get folks financial reason freedom. Forou are not for medical all . What is your position . Medicare for all . What is your position . Amy i think everybody sitting here believes that health care is a right for all americans and we should have affordable and Accessible Health care, we differ on how we get there. I believe we should have reasonable Common Sense Solutions where people are not thrown off of their health care if they like it currently. I propose Something Like the public option. This is the idea, the uncle sam plan, it is a government plan that you can buy, and if you like your current plan, from your employer or your private plan is fine then you do not have to buy it. This would be a nonprofit uncle sam plan. My husband and i would buy for our family because we are in the military. I believe everybody should have that option and it would provide options and bring prices down because the private insurers will have to compete with the public option. I believe these are things we can get done, if we can get out people like Mitch Mcconnell bought off by the insurance industry. I think we ought to tackle Prescription Drug prices which we know we can do because we have six bills that were passed in the house. These are very common sense things. Senator Mitch Mcconnell, in the two years he had all of the hisr, he had the house, party dead, and the senate, and he had the presidency, and did he what he did he do for kentucky . Did he do anything on health care that was good . No. Infrastructure that we are talking about, the brent spence bridge was a problem when i was a kid. Did he do 21st century infrastructure . No. Did he work on Prescription Drug prices or anything to help . The only major piece of legislation that he passed in two years was a big tax cut for people like him. He is not interested in moving us forward in health care, and it is so important to our growth in kentucky, and we have not even talked about the drug problem, but we have to tackle that too. Unfortunately we will not get to that tonight, and i want to give your final elevator speech to the kentucky voters and viewers. This question. If joe biden were to say, who do you think my Vice President al running mate should be, who and why . Amy obviously that is up to him, and i think he should be looking for diversity, because i think should it be a woman . Amy it should be, it is about time. Honestly, he is running for president and i am running for the seat of senator Mitch Mcconnell, that is what my focus is, but i would like to say before we close, i would like to say thank you, everybody who is watching. This is your democracy and i appreciate you watching and being engaged, and voting. We have not talked about it much, but voting and into kentucky is very different. Their urge people to help neighbor, help their grandparents, parents and children to obtain a ballot, and they can do that on kentuckyboat votes. Com because we are in the middle of the pandemic and people do not know how to vote and it is so important for kentuckians. Who would be your pick . Mike kamala harris
