Forbiden has been preparing this moment his entire life. I have been privileged to work with him over the last 25 plus years as first lady, then for eight years in the senate, where i watched him build coalitions and work to bring people together to solve problems. Then during the Obama Administration when i was privileged to be secretary of state. Then in the situation room as we debated and you know, where we did not say what we thought people wanted to hear. We said what we believed. We had a president who encouraged that. Who wanted to hear from each and every one of us. I have been in the lobby of the senate, i have watched joe bring people together. Need a a moment we leader, we need a president like joe biden. Im seeing him up close and personal now for many years. We have a lot of the same values in common. America, theef in same focus on family. We share a common experience and a love of scranton, pennsylvania. When my greatgrandparents came from england and wales, they ended up in scranton and my grandfather and then my father grew up in a house on diamond avenue. Bidens were over on North Washington street. Of time toa lot visit scranton, talk about scranton with joe. Occasion, heble said, hey, let us go see the house i lived in when i was little boy. If you know joe biden, you know the words were out of his mouth, we were racing to get there. He talked his way in, it was not hard. The woman who was at home immediately recognized him. We went through the house with joe regaling me with these mom,es about his dad, his the neighborhood. He was pointing out the window telling me who lived where when he was growing up. He told me one story i loved. He said he was getting ready to go to a Junior High School dance and he did not have any cufflinks. His very creative mother got him made a pairlt and of cufflinks for him. I think he said he was mortified by that and he told her, and she just looked at him and said, joey, if somebody says something to you about your cufflinks, you just say, what, you dont have a pair like that . It was that kind of love of family, that unconditional support that led joe to be the extraordinary Family Member and father he has been through all the tragedy so many of us have followed from afar. We know how deeply he connects with people who have similarly suffered a tragedy. When i was secretary of state and joe was Vice President , we had a standing date for breakfast on every tuesday. I would go to the Vice President s house and we would sit down and talk about the world. We would talk about what was going on, with the challenges facing us were, what was coming up in the white house, what the next meeting in the situation room was going to be. We also talked about our. Amilies his love of ice cream, which knows no bounds. Colleaguen not only a of joe biden. I have been a friend. I can tell you that i wish he were president right now, but i cannot wait until he is if all of us do our parts to support the kind of person we want back in the white house to end the kind of disregard of not only american values, but american institutions, the rule of law, and so much else that is at stake because of the current occupant. I am thrilled to be here with and his homeome during the very crazy times we find ourselves in. To support a candidacy and talk about this really significant issue, about women during this time of covid19 and how we need to learn from what is happening. This crisis has stripped for everybody to see the iniquities in our health care system, our economic system, and we have to pull together to be compared be prepared to make the changes that will fix what is wrong in america so that we can live up to the best versions of ourselves. I think joe biden can leave us there. Thanks, joe. We welcome you to this tuesday primetime edition of the washington journal. The number of coronavirus cases me to reaching another milestone.
