The headline, complacency to emergency, how trump changed course on the coronavirus. Phone, as on the reporter for politico covers the white house. A change in briefings and a change on the day. What happened . Guest it was a rather surreal scene at the white house theirday as reporters had temperature taken before they went to the Briefing Room. One was even turned away because they had a lowgrade fever. It shows you how the white house is now taking special precautions to make sure that no one who might have this virus is exposing other people in really close quarters. The Briefing Room is jampacked nextpeople who sit right to each other. It was a really fascinating thing to watch unfold there. Host yesterday after a lot of back and forth, the president got tested. Guest and the president s response seems to be evolving in realtime. Even to the people he was in contact with the announced that he was tested for the virus and the test results came back negative. But it seems the president was tested at some point on friday after a conversation with dr. Conley, the white house physician, who said the president showed no symptoms. But you know, the president has been around people who have tested positive for this virus. s selfe rnc chairwoman quarantining after she was potentially exposed and developed flulike symptoms yesterday. She was tested, but we still dont know the results of the tests yet. This is the headline from foxnews. Com. 10 u. S. Service members have the virus. As we said, this is impacting every aspect of the lives of americans from the military to the economy, churches and schools. Is the white house prepared for the significant Economic Impact this will have in the months ahead . The white house is trying to mitigate the damage it will do. You have seen the president and Vice President meet with Industry Leaders to talk about what exactly they can do to help them in advance. They have talked about bailout packages. They have been in deep discussions with particularly Industry Leaders from industries that will be hit very hard. Airlines, for example, cruise liners, the travel industry, the entertainment industry. People like that. [inaudible] to talk about Food Shortages and things like making sure that our shelves are things like Hand Sanitizer and the needs that people have. And of course the white house has been working with congress to make sure that americans have the resources that they need, that if they are out of work that they dont miss a paycheck and the president said he is in support of the coronavirus aid package passed by the house. Now it has been sent over to the senate that they can review all of those provisions. The bill includes things like free testing for people who are uninsured, but also it acknowledges things like Food Security initiatives and an increase to federal medicaid funds. Addresses, you know, some of the financial concerns that people have. The question is, is it going to be enough . Host this is the headline from the new york host is this a possibility here . Could we face this in the days ahead . Guest i think it is certainly a possibility. Theres a new travel ban starting on monday, adding the u. K. And ireland in addition to european countries. Of course, u. S. Citizens can still return from those countries, but they will have to go through screening, ports of entry with the with enhanced security. We know that one of the things that works in terms of of course the spread is just people self quarantine. Social distancing. Seen, dr. T we have fauci and dr. Burke talking about very specific health ifsures, making sure that the community is impacted, schools are shut down and people stay home to try to prevent the spread. I think that what we are seeing a broad is not out of the realm of possibility. Been rumblings around things like Domestic Travel restrictions. Vice president pence is speaking with governors on monday. Im going to guess that that is one of the things that will come up. What else are you expecting in todays briefing . Guest one of the things to keep an eye on of course is the house bill that was passed. The president obviously put his stamp of approval on it, but Mitch Mcconnell, the Senate Majority leader, said they will see when that passes, its something i have a my radar for monday. Meredith macgraw, covering the white house for politico, thank you for being with us on this sunday. Want to share with you a couple of headlines to give you a sense of how the story is playing out this morning. On the front page, the u. S. Is adding Great Britain and ireland. And the price of a pandemic is the headline. A pending life across the United States. There is this from the sports section of the Washington Post,. Everything from the masters to Major League Baseball in the nba to march madness, all sports stopped. To how theon president is handling all of this. Braden 10, georgia, joe, good morning. Trump is doing a horrible job. This is a good example. Trump got rid of the obama ebola team. Just to downsize government. Now they can say, government doesnt work, privatize it. The Republican Party is the opposite of fdr. Looking at history, under the republicans we had the first depression. They want to privatize everything. Its why we pay a lot of money for those programs. Thank you and have a good day, sir. Mark joins us next from omaha, nebraska. Im thinking that the Trump Administration is doing a nice job, i really appreciate the daily prefix. Daily briefings. They are willing to evolve the message. Trump has it in his heart to keep American People safe. He understands that part of the job and will do everything he can to keep the American People safe. If its travel bans or eventually stopping domestic he has American Peoples in his thoughts to keep them safe. I appreciate that. I think like bernie and biden have to refigure out what they are saying right now. Like trying to eliminate the business tax breaks and stuff like that. They cant continue with that message. Its the private businesses that help out the country and give everyone jobs. Should probably stop talking about eliminating the big business tax breaks. Thats who the government goes help us overcome a lot of these problems that we have. They will be debating tonight, Bernie Sanders and joe biden, we will be airing it live on cnn, who has given cspan permission to repair the debates. If you miss it tonight, you can see it tomorrow, check out our on cspan. Org. Our latest on the coronavirus and daily briefings, all available online. Times, innew york a crisis supporters look to. Mpet more than ever dodgy is joining us from griffin, georgia, good morning. I have a question. As far as i know, i have been researching this this morning. Is there a rapid test for the coronavirus . Because he said he got tested at midnight on friday and he sent the tests to a lab and got the results on saturday afternoon. I dont think there is a rapid test for the virus, how did he get his results so soon . Host we believe that there. Thank you for the call. Good morning. Im impressed by the president and his team. They did a good job in banning from china early on. Fishing, whatever. We all mother republican system has a problem, but even in italy, they had a system, so we cannot blame United States testing for not being sophisticated or coordinated. The most important ingredient is still very low. We have to listen to the president. State thating our there is not politics here. Its unprecedented. We will be coming out to his message. Its good crop good credit for the president. We have to cheer him on. Thehould not worry about tests that come early. Its possible they put pressure on him to get tested. I think his calm nature is what we needed this moment. Hes not panicking, so he leads by example and i give him good credit for him. This is the statement from the president s physicians, ng host that statement from the white house physician. Yesterday at the briefing from the white house, this from dr. Anthony fauci at the nih, who is an expert in these kinds of viruses. [video clip] when you have an outbreak like this, when you try to interfere with it its impossible to know when its going to peak or go down. If you look at the situation where countries really didnt get to the point of trying to contain and mitigate burwell, you see a peek over several weeks and then down again over several weeks. What we are trying to do with the efforts that we are doing is to blunt the peak. Its important to mention this again. When you talk about preventing infections from without in, how do you handle what you already have in your country . You try to proportionate to the areas that are the most infectious. The success of that and how much you make this turn into this is going to give you the amount of time. If we are successful, it will be less. If we are not successful, it will be more. But these kinds of things generally run out in a few months. Hopefully we will make it several weeks, but i cant give you a number because it depends on how successful we are. Host that from dr. Anthony fauci at the National Institutes of health. From middletown, new jersey. How is the president doing so far . Morning, cspan. The best channel on television. Good morning, steve. I have never seen anything that to the violence within our great country and the world. Seen where baseball has been canceled, soccer has been canceled. The products and everything. Its unbelievable. We are the most vulnerable, both over 80. We take very serious precautions. Of the time. Most wash our hands most of the time. We look out for each other in the family and make sure that we dont go out with the crowds. Host david, you are a friend to the network. Thats david, 96 years old, and thank you for your service during world war ii. Joining us this morning from bethesda, maryland. Good morning, how is the president doing . Caller how are you doing . Great show. He is doing abysmally. Would makehat trump a lot of money for my friends and my families, and he did, we did great under him, but hes an embarrassment. A couple of days ago he looked bloated and afraid. Hes way out of his depth. He has no idea what hes doing and, you know, hes a more on. We are making money by shorting the market because hes such a loser. Hes a liberal loser. Just the idea that he spent 1. 8 trillion borrowing from the tricalms to pay for the tax cut that we all got rich on. You know, except the rich the working class and the underclass. They got screwed. Im writing my check now for just that the biden. Trump, what a loser. Mike, thank you for the call. The surgeon coronavirus patients hospitals,o affect who are directing triage tents, squeezing into break rooms host lets go to your phone calls again. Jerry, mesquite, nevada. I think they are on the right track with this virus. Closing down large events. I wonder why no one has addressed the fact that all of these casinos in nevada are one of the worst places to spread the virus. And for rubbing elbows some reason, i dont know if they have so much money that they are keeping it under wraps, but that needs to be addressed. Theres no reason they shouldnt be temporarily closed down because that is a hot spot for spreading the virus. Host and this headline from the hill, taking its toll, lawmakers reshaping daily life as they scramble to stop the spread of this quickly movie disease with a number of staffers confirmed with the virus and lawmakers selfquarantine inc. Out of an or coce of caution arizona, john is next. Good morning. Caller yes, i support trump. As far as im concerned, the democrats can all go jump in the lake. Host why do you say that . Isnt this a time to come together . Caller it is, but pelosi and the whole bunch wont seem to come together with him no matter what he does. Host to be fair, the democrats and republicans caller they still are not coming together with donald trump. I want to add on and add on and add on. If they just cut that out, i would agree with that. But i dont agree with that. John, thank you. We will go to douglas in forks, washington. Lynn is next in arizona. Good morning. Caller good morning. My friend here, john in arizona, we disagree. They knew that this was coming. They had a lot of time. He followed what was happening in other parts of the world. Yet these messages about handwashing, where are the test gets . All of that, preparing the hospitals, what about the nursing staff . The threat that they are under . Its unbelievable that we had such a running start and we blew it. So, now there is this pandemic of people panicking. You cant get toilet paper, water, which is really threatening things even more. People are just overreacting because there wasnt enough preparation and time in letting people know that this was coming , getting the hospitals prepared and the test gets prepared. The numbers are going to shoot way up, which will freak people out. Other way behind countries. No, i dont think he has done a good job with this at all. His messaging has been awful. Half the time hes not even making any sense. Not even using complete sentences. Its a hoax. Thats not what we need. They are finally taking it serious when members of their own cabinet had to quarantine, which im thankful for, it feels we are getting a response just recently warranting what we should have been doing many months ago. Thank you for the call. The vatican canceling easter services, just one development coronavirus. E spain and italy are basically in lockdown. Angela merkel worrying that 70 million germans could be thected by this with coronavirus. Again, there is a website at cdc. Gov or coronavirus. Gov where you can get the latest. That was announced this past week by Vice President pence. Caller we ought to quit pointing fingers at each other. Over the last 30 years we have Mitch Mcconnell, chuck schumer, the whole group that has been there for years and years, forget about the jobs going overseas, but the pharmaceutical companies, or gloves come from overseas. Pharmaceuticals and medicine comes from overseas. Everyone is sitting in a circle firing squad pointing at each other. Ive been a milkman for over 45 years. I took toilet paper on the route. I asked them if they needed anything, to let me know. We need to come together. We dont need to blame mr. Trump or nancy pelosi. What we ought to do is prepare ourselves for the future. This is our own fault for leaders who are greedy and getting rich in setting instead of taking care of the American People. Ive been a doortodoor milkman and i will give it out free as long as it gets people back up on their freak on their feet. Im tired of people limning everybody else. Lets pull up our boots, get together and start fixing things. Roger is next, middletown, ohio. Im supporting mr. Trump completely, including my whole family. He put people back to work. My daughter is a teacher in kentucky and they didnt even have books. They had nothing, there was no tax money. They put people back to work, ok . Now they have books to support they keep blaming mr. Trump for everything. The man is a brilliant, you know , they say that mr. Clinton said the dummies should be put in a basket. I need a bigger basket because so many of my friends and family have going to. This guy saying that trump is one of the biggest liars on earth . Keeps coming after the president. These people dont understand that in a time of war, if you go to the president , you could be convicted as a major crime. Hes our supreme commander. Im a korean veteran. I was glad when they talked ,bout knocking the rich people i was glad when i was working my boss was rich, he could pay my salary. If you take a million business and make the guy selling, give half the money to the poor people. Call. Thanks for the this is the headline from the wall street journal, the trump virus emergency, here are the details [video clip] this has been urgent for me from the beginning. You know that because i closed up the country to china. Why are you shaking hands, sir . Gett becomes a habit, you out of that habit. I was a nonhandshake are for the most part. I never believed in that, and i notice it, too. Political people walk up to me and they want to shake my hand and i say, well, you know. Wait a minute. Take it nice and easy. Just relax. People come to me, they shake out. , they put their hand its a natural reflex and we all have that problem. Someone comes to you, they put their hand on, you tend to shake it. We are all getting out of that. Shaking hands is not a great thing to be doing right now, i agree. Sometimes you put the handout, you dont think about it. We have to think about it, its important. Someone said yesterday that i touched the microphone. I was touching it because i have different height people and i want to make it easier for them. They wouldnt be able to reach or speaking to the mic. Touched theat he microphone. Well, if i dont touch it, someone has to touch it. I might as well be the one to do it. We all have to get away from it. Getting away from shaking hands is a good thing. Possibly that is something that comes out of this. Maybe people shouldnt be shaking hands for the longterm. It does transmit flu and other things. We have the flu and our country that kills on average 36,000 people a year. 36,000 people. You know . Thats something we are not talking about. But as of this moment we have , a little bit,50 less and 50 people and we will try to keep the numbers as low as possible. From thet was president yesterday in his briefing, this from a viewer in ohio, with Vice President pence saying that they are handling it well with Health Officials after a media driven blowup. Calling it another ploy to get the president out of office. From curtis in chicago host that is this morning from the Washington Post. Don is next from arlington, virginia. Good morning. Caller i would ask that you take a look at the online data. Map that youre looking at, it was put out by the u. S. Government on march 10. Eight c three. They are saying that they had a virus inside of it. I would like to say that we just dont know. Im calling in on the line that says im opposed to him. That there isnt another way to put it, we dont really know how good of a job the president is going to do. Dr. Fauci said it clearly. It depends. Thats what he said. I think that we need to immediately just go into a quarantine for 14 days. Stop it. The rollingo quarantines, the virus will continue to spread. The president has been putting out a lousy message. He didnt believe the threat of it. Thats clear, hes calling it now the hoax, which will confuse americans. Thank you for the call. The cruise liner the grand princess became one of the epicenters of the early stages here in the United States. Joining us on the phone is Theresa Duncan johnson, she was on the cruise line and is being quarantined in georgia. Thank you for being with us on this sunday. Good morning. Story. Ell us your where was the cruise originating from . Where did you go . What transpired . Last leftuise San Francisco on friday, favorites when it first. It was a 15 day cruise and we were headed to the hawaiian islands. We went to hawaii and on wednesday, i believe march the fourth, all the days feel like they are running together these days, on march the fourth we got a telecommunications newsletter under the door of the cabin saying that we were bypassing the final stop in sonata, mexico because previous passengers on the same ship that had gone to mexico prior to our trip had been identified with the coronavirus and, though they didnt tell us this, one person had died in seattle. We were not going to go. We were headed back to San Francisco. We expected to be back on the fifth. And that once we arrived closer to the United States we were then told the bee would not be permitted. There were test kits helicoptered out to the ship that had 46 people. 19 crewmen and two passengers tested positive for the virus. At that point there were statements made by both the president and the Vice President regarding passengers being tested on the ship before the ship would be allowed to port. We did in fact port on monday the ninth in oakland, california. When we arrived there was at that time no testing that had been provided to passengers. So, a lot of the people in the community and around the United States and worldwide thought that the passengers on board were being tested for the virus. They started to disembark on monday afternoon with canadian residents and with california residents and they got i think approximately 400 people off the ship on monday. We were the first wave that left the ship on tuesday. He took out temperature and boarded a bus. We have been quarantined since the fifth. The only contact that we had door, nyone was our cabin when they would knock and place the meals on the floor, on a tray for us to have three times a day. Everybody that was Walking Around the ship was masked in hazmat suits. We were not provided any type of protective covering at any time that we were on the ship. We were completely isolated from everyone else on the ship. People had balconies and they could speak to their neighbors from a distance, but there was no contact whatsoever from people who had interior or only window views. They got off the ship and they immediately put us on a bus where we had worsened to a seat. We sat on the bus for anywhere from two to three hours on the tarmac at the airport for a chartered airplane. When we got on the airplane they had those first six seats reserved as a buffer for the wereand the captain, who basically your firstclass seating. There were one or two disabled inividuals permitted to set row six. The remaining had to fill from the back forward. Three people to a seat, four sides of the plane. You go from no persontoperson contact to two to his seat to three to a seat. A five hour flight from california to the air force base. When we arrived we had a two hour to three hour checkin processing before we would reach the rooms. That was at 5 a. M. Having left the ship at approximately 2 00 previous day, 2 p. M. The previous day. There was another group of folks that had arrived on wednesday and they were then some of them placed in the same quarantine area as the previous group. Communication was terrible in the beginning, with getting the information out. Health and Homeland Security people were doing their volunteer reserves that were here and they were obviously overworked. There was not enough staffing. The meals were sporadic at first. And then people began to miss meals. They would take the temperature two times per day and they continued to do that. They tried to have a town hall here on the base. This was called fight one. They attempted to do that on thursday. They didnt have a pa system. We were not able to exercise the six foot spacing. There were a lot of things like this going on through the process. Do you have any of the symptoms . How are you feeling . Onler there is not a person this site, i have not been told, and neither has my husband, no one here has been symptomatic. We are being told that we are all asymptomatic. There is not anything. They had a Conference Call yesterday, they set us up for the Conference Call and we were told that there was roughly 500 passengers from the grand on the base. Information where they flew the airplanes in on friday morning and some of those people have not received their luggage. Across theons different sites have ranged from small rooms with a shared bathroom to some people not receiving towels and basic necessities. Their luggage has not arrived because it was sent to a different location. Host let me remind listeners that we are talking to Theresa Duncan johnson, she was on board the grand princess being quarantined in georgia. I have to ask you, where is home for you originally . Caller unfortunately im a georgia resident. Im not terribly far from home. Host how long do you think you will be quarantined . Yesterday when we got communication from the governor that he was releasing georgia resident, we received a phone call at 3 p. M. , they started at 5 p. M. , asking to get someone to drive to the base to be here between 6 p. M. And 8 p. M. To pick them up. 19 georgia residents left the base yesterday. We planned to leave today because of the distance between marietta and i guess the. But we were unable to make those preparations for yesterday. But i do want to tell you that as of today, sunday, no one has been tested on this site. E asked immediately we thought that when we didnt get tested on the ship we would get tested here. We didnt. We keep getting different information. Just kind of magnifies itself. We were told on a Conference Call yesterday that it would happen today or tomorrow. It has been a voluntary thing to have a test and quite a few people do not want to be tested because they were fearful of a false positive and having to. Emain , ever sinceed here we were asymptomatic, we were ,llowed they would allow they were going to allow us in georgia to go home and self quarantine and i plan to draw my blinds and go to sleep for three days. Know, we dont have any intentions of going to see a soul and i help that anyone who is leaving the site will be respectful, as a citizen, and will take the appropriate measures to go home and to do the right thing. So that we can help against the spread of the virus. We are not showing symptoms and have been quarantined since the fifth of march. Theresa duncan johnson, we wish you the best. Thank you very much for spending a moment with us. A final, very quick question, will you go on another cruise . Caller i absolutely will. We got 100 future cruise credit and i have one planned. I am looking forward to going to see alaska. I love the cruise industry. Its a great thing. Its just really unfortunate that this happened during the time when people were out. I think they are doing everything they can now to stop the cruises. Princess has taken 60 days. Some of the others, 30 days to try to allow this to come down. I love it. Its a great way to see different places throughout our world and yes, we plan to go again. Host thank you for being with us and again, good luck to you. Guest god bless you. Host this is a tweet from melissa host nbc news putting on this montage with some of the mixed messages from the white house. [video clip] finding very little problem, very low problem. Treated like the flu. This is the most comprehensive effort to confront a foreign virus in modern history. Its going to disappear one day like a miracle. We will be suspending all travel from europe to the United States for the next 30 days. We have thousands, hundreds of thousands of people that get , you know, by sitting around and even going to work, some of them go to work. If you are sick or not feeling well, stay home. The democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. This is their new hoax. We must put politics aside, stop the partisanship and unified together as one nation. That from nbc news and a look at the president s various responses to the coronavirus. This from jason in ohio, who said that after a disastrous speech on friday, trump doesnt take responsibility for the changes in the administration and he is the commander in chief of the armed forces, he should be relieved of duty. Donna, st. Louis, good morning, how is the president doing . [laughter] caller good morning. Its going away like a miracle. I oppose trump, but i believe he finally came out of his stupor because of the honesty of dr. Fauci. I think hes the real the real euro. And of course the stock market was spiraling downwards. Also, that need for medical or for all in my opinion, i had a couple of other things. To me labels dont matter. Its what you are for or against. Bernie is medicare for all and its no more socialist than fdrs Social Security or lbjs medicare. Not too many people want to get rid of those, do they . Third, the Corporate Media never talk about their arterial all too real posterior motives for putting them bernie. They get billions over the years from the drug and insurance companies. Awaye sanders cannot do with that, i dont think. He can reduce their profits that they gouge out of it. But i believe that medicare for all will be a compromise. You wont get Something Like this without a compromise. The need we see today more than ever, i mean this deadly virus . They dont know anything about it yet. I mean, its killing old people. There is no vaccination. We dont know the cause or the cure. For the moment we are just self quarantining ourselves to see where it all goes. You for the call. If you are just tuning in, or joining us in Great Britain, we are talking about the coronavirus outbreak. We have this from pete at the atlantic, the Trump Presidency is over. Host more of your phone calls in a moment, but yesterdays briefing at the white house, jerome powell, u. S. Surgeon general on what is next with this virus. Hin negotiated i want you all to understand, Straight Talk from the nations doctors, we need you all to lean into and prioritize the health and safety of the American People. No more bickering. No more partisanship. No more criticism or fingerpointing. There will be plenty of time for that. But we need to hit the reset button and lean into moving forward the health and safety of the American People as our top priority. More on how the American People can protect themselves and get the resources that we have unleashed from the federal, state, and local governments. Less stories about what happened in the past, there will be time for that. That from the u. S. Surgeon general. Charlie is next. This program has become a complete joke. You open up the segment with the concern. Omplacency the president was never complacent. He was looking behind the scenes with medical professionals and business leaders. I know you, steve. Completely wanted the president to be hysterical , panic. E the nation thats what you wanted and didnt get it. You dont know what i want, but we appreciate your call and comment, its a chance for you to express your point of view. Larrys next from maryland. Good morning. Nobody is telling the truth, the president , china, the centers for disease control. This is not a global virus, its a weaponize biological weapon unleashed in china on december 8. The death rate is much higher than what they are telling you and the infection rate is much higher. Its all deception, they dont want people to panic. And declared martial law in new rochelle and if it keeps going to happen for the public. Its a big lie in the public deception. Host thank you for the call. This from Bloomberg News him traces of such habits will endure long after it eases and act as a brake on demand. That from Bloomberg News. Caller good morning. Im promoting onto, new york. Supporting donald trump from his actions that he has been doing. Hes been doing a good job. That ourt believe family that we have in other states and other countries, that donald trump is preventing us from getting to our families. Host thank you for the call. This from carol next fromy is hatfield, pennsylvania. Good morning. You are on the air. Ok, thanks. I dont know why we are told to get in our car and being and drive to attempt to get your temperature taken. I dont know why we dont take it at home. My husband and i went shopping yesterday and thats what we did before we went out. Did anyone else see where supposedly dr. Fauci took trumps onne and change his password his twitter account . I read that and couldnt believe it. He said he had been wanting to do this for a long time. Did anyone else see that . President has been tweeting this morning so i assume that is disinformation. This from national review, to help stop the epidemic spread, halting the spread is a way to indirectly, economy, the Federal Reserve having more direct responsibilities that should include additional reductions in Interest Rates as the president has repeatedly urged, rapidly declining infant Inflation Expectations are the sign that economic weakness has gone beyond supply chain disruption. Susan is next. Good morning. Caller from when President Trump came in, i found him opposing the whole government. He wanted to cut it short, cut down parts of it. The Infectious Disease department in the cdc, too expensive, get rid of them, and if we ever need them we will get them back. Now he has done that with lots of parts of our government. Just taking it all apart and putting the money elsewhere. But this was so needed to protect us from Infectious Disease, he cut it way down as soon as he came in. Fauci knew about it. But you know, he just sort of went along with it all. Just want to give a shout out to my cousin, angela, in florida. Im very worried, like everyone else. He has the experts handling it now and hopefully we will keep attempt down so that it wont explode so that so many people might die. But we all have to be careful and try to stay in as much as we can. We are all worried, but i dont you know, President Trump now, the first time i saw him on. Out without the red hat he was wearing just a red usa hat, which i liked. He has got to take all of the American People, not just the republicans. He has got to listen to all of us. From our Facebook Page, this is from gordon. Host come up more of your calls and comments on our Facebook Page and twitter page. We will continue as a representative from the third wave organization to talk about the coronavirus and the state of political parties. Ryan pougiales will join us here at the table. Ater, Jennifer Eppsaddison newsmakers follows the washington journal. Ur guest is guy cecil among the issues we talked about former Vice President joe biden has done enough to walk back allegations son. His here is a portion. [video clip] biden addressed it effectively, or do you think he needs to do more . He has addressed it effectively. I would remind folks that we have a Trump Organization currently making millions of dollars off of Donald Trumps presidency, that Jared Kushner pushed for a tax rebate in the current tax bill, passed by republicans, that directly benefited his company. Some of this is a distraction from the real issue, that the real corruption has been by the trump kids, by trumps soninlaw, and by people serving in the current administration. Everybody who has looked at the hunter biden situation has said there was nothing done wrong. We will continue to prosecute the case as best we can, focusing on the fact that this administration has been engaged in a massive amount of corruption and quid pro quos. You said when Hillary Clinton said donald trump, you are a russian puppet, and she said you are the puppet, isnt that what youre doing here . No. There has been a review of this issue. No one has found anything wrong. Or we deal with optics can deal with the facts. In this case, the facts are clear that what the Trump Organization has been doing is using this to distract from the fact that they are making millions of dollars off of the taxpayers, making money off the federal government, and engaged in activity that under normal circumstances would be getting more attention than it is. Attacks andate the lies on hunter biden with what i critiqueslegitimate of the Trump Organization and administration, which have been covered in the press in a way that i think could be amplified more. We will. This is not going to be something we let sit on the sideline. We will not only defend biden but point out the hypocrisy of these attacks from the Trump Organization. Cecil is the chair of priorities usa and he is our guest on cspans newsmakers program. You can listen to it anytime. It airs at 10 00 a. M. Eastern time, 7 00 for those of you on the west coast. We want to welcome ryan pougiales, the senior political analyst for third way. Guest it is a national centerleft think tank based in washington, d. C. We research a range of policy issues. Modern,to advance ambitious, and actionable ideas to move the country forward. Host put this week into perspective as a country and in terms of our politics. Guest it has been a tumultuous week. That spans our politics, our everyday livese of americans. Our economy two weeks ago was humming along in terms of the Overall National indicators. Now we may be headed into a potential recession nationally and globally. Weeks, in ourwo politics, we thought the democratic nominee might be Bernie Sanders but now it is all but certain that joe biden will be leading the party forward. The impact on of this country, we have had past crises, whether 9 11 or pearl harbor. This is one of those that is directly impacting every american one way or another. Guest absolutely. Every it Touching Community across the country, from big cities like washington, d. C. And new york and seattle but also small communities and spreading far and wide. Host what happens next in terms of what the president needs to do and what congress is currently doing . Guest the first thing for everyone is to expand testing. I think it is shameful that we have not scaled up our testing of the coronavirus to the scale we have seen in south korea and other countries around the world. Until we have a sense of how bad the problem is and how fast it is spreading, i do not think aud actions taken by the government. Host there is this on our Facebook Page. This represents what we are hearing from a lot of viewers. She says, President Trump is doing an outstanding job considering the news media is hyping this to the extreme. Every winter, we go through the flu season. This year is no different. Last year, we lost 8600 people to the flu, but you did not hear that because the media were not in your face with it 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will be gone in a couple weeks and will return next year. What you say to her and viewers like that . Guest what we know is that the coronavirus is about 10 times more deadly than the annual flu. It spreads at about twice the rate. Any person who contracts the virus is likely to spread it to about twice as many people as your run of the mill every day common flu that folks get from yeartoyear. I know it is comforting for some people to use the common flu as a reference point, but it looks like we are dealing with a different beast. This is from a republican who served in the george w. Bush administration. He has been a critic of the president. The Trump Presidency is over. He writes, the president is not responsible for the coronavirus or the disease it causes. The president and his administration are responsible for grave, costly errors, most especially the manufacturing failure of diagnostic testing, the decision to test too few people, the delay in expanding testing to labs, and problems outside the supply chain. Created aakes have false sense of security. We now know is the coronavirus silently spread for several weeks without us being aware of it. Mitigation and efforts could have significantly slowed its spread at an early, critical point. We frittered away that opportunity. It has taken longer than it should have, but americans have now seen the con man behind the curtain. Donald trump is shrinking before our eyes. The president will become more desperate, more embittered, more unhinged. He knows nothing will be the same. His Administration May stagger on, but it will only be a shell. Theatlantic. Com. Guest that is a persuasive case. What i know, and to distill that down to a few sentences, is that we knew this virus was upon us globally in early january. We saw the first signs of it in china. It is now march. Last week, the president said he bears no responsibility for the current state we are in. 2. 5 months, and he still claims he bears no responsibility, and that is shameful. Host he did early on shutdown travel between the u. S. And china, which did reduce cases in this country. Guest certainly there were some actions to shut down some flights and limit some people coming into the country. Transit through taiwan and other areas. Host there is something new in town, bipartisanship, where Speaker Pelosi is dealing with secretary mnuchin. We heard from republican leader Mitch Mcconnell on this bill that will be taken up in the senate this week. Guest i think there is some positive elements to the bill, including paid leave, free testing. All the actions we can marshal right now to take on this critical threat to our country is positive. Host we are dividing our phone lines. If you support former Vice President joe biden, call 202 7488000. If you support senator Bernie Sanders, 202 7488001. If you are not sure, 202 7488002. We will get more of your calls in a moment. From yesterdays briefing at the white house, this is from Vice President mike pence on new travel restrictions. [video clip] as the president foreshadowed today, the president has made a decision to suspend all travel to the United Kingdom and ireland, effective midnight monday night eastern standard time. Willful describe the details of that. As the president suggested, our Health Experts will reflect on those numbers made a unanimous recommendation to the president that we suspend all travel to the u. K. And ireland. That will be effective midnight, monday night eastern standard time. Americans in the u. K. Or ireland can come home. Home. Residents can come they will be funneled through specific airports and processed. Host this headline from the New York Times says europe faces a crisis as the virus spreads. The Vice President very clear to make sure what it means for americans because there was confusion wednesday with the president s speech from the oval office. Guest is causing a surge in airports. We saw it yesterday in dallasfort worth, in chicago, a real surge of americans coming back into the country. They were unsure if they would be able to at a later date. That is causing four to six hour waits at your cargo hair last night going through customs. Host lets talk about the politics behind this. There is a debate between the former Vice President and senator Bernie Sanders. Right now, joe biden is ahead in tuesdays primary states. Guest the bottom line looking at the numbers is joe biden is likely to be the democratic nominee. There is not a viable path forward for senator sanders to secure the nomination. It comes down to the math. If you look at where we are in the process now in terms of delegates allocated, we are halfway through the process. Senator sanders has secured about 37 of the delegates he would need to win the nomination. The numbers are not there for him. Host lets look at those poles again. Joe biden and Bernie Sanders debating tonight. Look at the lead the former Vice President has. About 65. 5 percent of Florida Democrats supported joe biden. 23 support Bernie Sanders. This is taken between the fifth and the 12th. In arizona, joe biden at 48 . At 60 . Ois, joe biden finally, the real clear politics average in ohio, biden is 57 . If these numbers hold true, where is it senator Bernie Sanders wednesday . Former vice now, President Joe Biden leading by 200 delegates. Looksse numbers hold, it like the former Vice President will expand his delegate lead by another 200 delegates or so. We will be looking at a place former Vice President is over halfway to the democratic nomination. Bernie sanders has fallen further behind. Host we are hearing from those of you who support the former Vice President or senator sanders. Amy, who is your candidate . Caller i am supporting Bernie Sanders. I feel he is the only one with the platform to address issues like this coronavirus. Now andobamacare right we see even with obamacare, which biden says he will not fight to keep and protect, obamacare is not meeting the need of the American People. Class. Rushing the middle if you are making between 40000 and 60,000 a year and have Employer Health insurance, you have a 6,000 deductible. You have 500 to 1000 premiums if you want to cover your family. That is even with health insurance. Virus is hopefully going to , to reallye to look see the shortcomings of needcare and realize we the aggressive approach that Bernie Sanders is going to take toward our health care. I also hope everyone watches the debates tonight to see Bernie Sanders is the only candidate that has the mental acuity and cognitive ability to be president. Host we will give our guest a chance to respond. Democrats, ink all all those running for president and those still left in the race, acknowledge the status quo is not acceptable on health care come on a range of issues. Joe biden and every democrat in the race wanted to and have put forward plans to expand on obamacare, whether a public option or other means of reform. In terms of what is resonating with democratic voters, i like to look at what worked in 2018. The playbook the democrats ran on was pretty simple. It was reducing health care costs, expanding Economic Opportunity, and taking on corruption in washington that gets in the way of progress. That is what joe biden is running on this year. See it is resonating with voters. Our guest is a political analyst with third way. est they can follow me ryanpougiales on twitter. Caller my comment is about joe biden. I like him because of his experience but feel Bernie Sanders has a ralph nader spirit that no matter what he is going to split the party. Response. Ill get a guest i think senator sanders does not have a viable path forward to the nomination in 2020, but he can play a proactive and constructive role in the primary and general election. He speaks with real passion about a number of issues that all democrats care about and brings moral clarity to issues like Climate Change. He can play a positive role by continuing to talk about these issues and talking about how all democrats are committed to our shared goals and taking them on. Any chance joe biden would consider him as a running mate . Guest the Vice President and senator sanders have made reference to they probably do not need another older white men on the ticket. Who is your candidate in this race, barbara . I am in the not sure category. With bernie about how he is going to pay for a lot of the things that he is proposing and everything like that. Concerned with maybe he does not seem to be really on it on some of his discussions. And then i am concerned about ukraine andn with stuff like that. I do not know for sure. Those are my questions when i am considering burning or joe bernie or joe. Guest what we know is that by the best estimates senator wouldss proposals account for 60 trillion over the next 10 years. Voters know that is not going to happen. They know it would result in increases in taxes, which is something they do not want. Thatis one of the factors moved a lot of voters away from senator sanders to joe biden. Is continuing to shape this race. Host this is from the l. A. Times. It is available online. Democrats have given one answer, a candidate who makes their hearts race. Not this time. If democrats have long been accused of wanting a savior president and staking everything on the president ial elections while ignoring the rest, this election may mark a turning point. Anyhe biden wave is indication, democrats are no longer looking for that kind of perfection. Know, and this dates back to when our organization started doing Public Opinion on this, is that the issue democrats care about more than anything else is beating trump in 2020. That overrides personal policy preferences, even their feelings about different candidates. What has been clear throughout the race is that joe biden is perceived as the strongest choice to take on and beat trump. That is one of the factors that rally soldiers behind him. Host lets go to larry in michigan. Caller i am a sanders supporter. I am a 76yearold american support and i singlepayer Health Care System because i think that is the only way they will ever straighten up this medical in this country. Medical, ways had good but the way i was raised in west virginia, when i was a kid, if you did not work for the coal mines or somebody that provides insurance, your service for health care was terrible. That is all i have to say. Host thank you. Guest thanks, larry. What we know is that voters priority is to reduce health care costs. That is partially rooted in 90 to 92 americans currently have health care coverage. We need to expand coverage to that remaining percent that do not have health care coverage. Every democrat in the race has committed to that goal of reaching universal coverage. In terms of where we put priorities on health care as an ,ssue, it is reducing the cost which is the most important priority for most americans and the most widely shared priority as well. David from west virginia, supporter of joe biden. Caller i support joe biden. The Mainstream Media is behind joe biden and the Democratic Party. Gets 20 in the senate, where they cannot be filibustered, he can fix the problems, immigration, make the rich pay their share of taxes. He can fix medical problems. He can bring the country together. Day, what happens the first two years of the Obamabiden Administration . He had the full house, the senate. None of this stuff happened that they promised. Do we think any of it would be done again . How can you good night the country if you did not unite the country President Trump would not be president. There are a lot of big issues to tackle going forward. Joe biden has committed to addressing Climate Change. We were justas talking about, is a another top focus. Is there are serious structural challenges in taking on washington. Joe biden has shown in his past as a senator and Vice President that he is able to bring folks together across the aisle and get progress done. Jennifer rubin in the Washington Post had this to say about senator Bernie Sanders. Remaining in the race is not just bad form. It is ethically questionable. He is continuing to take money from ordinary people, some of modest means, on the premise that he can still win. What justification is there for cajoling the working poor to give him a few dollars . Project. Ding a vanity the key question for senator sanders is not if he drops out or when. It is how he leaves the race. There are a number of positive steps he can take to leave in a way that will help bring democrats together rather than splinter supporters often not vote or vote for trump, like we saw in 2016. Host there is a debate tonight airing on cnn. It will reair tomorrow on the cspan network. Is there a sense that if he does lose the states tuesday that we could see a withdrawal . Guest i think that decision rests with senator sanders alone. That is correct. It will be increasingly clear that he does not have a viable path to the nomination after tuesday. That will cause our choices for him and his campaign. Host he had a strong early november, winning convincingly in New Hampshire and iowa. Guest he won those two pockets and primaries. What we saw in New Hampshire is his support dropped more than half since 2016. He did manage to eke out a small , but hispete buttigieg absolute level of support fell quite a bit from four years ago. Host lets go to lorraine in west virginia. Caller good morning. I have given money to three campaigns, which is buttigieg, sanders, and biden. Now we are down to biden and sanders. I lean toward Bernie Sanders because of his policy. Watchingllowed bernie your show for years. The reason i think he is staying in the race is he wants his priorities put into biden. I do not want just joe biden the way he is. I am tired of the dnc. I am tired of the way things are. I think most people across this country are tired of being told what to do. That is what is happening. Host i also meant to mention nevada. Sanders will have an important voice through the remainder of the primary as well as in the general election. He will elevate those issues important to him. The thing that is a blessing and challenge about Democratic Politics is we have a Diverse Coalition ideologically. That push and pull on issues makes a stronger. Host we will go to newark, california. Caller good morning. I am leaning toward Bernie Sanders. I like joe biden. Like his experience but i do not think he will push the issues as hard as Bernie Sanders. The last caller said, i have been listening to Bernie Sanders ring up these same issues for the past 25 years or so. I am pretty sure if he is elected, he will push the envelope to make sure our quality of life is improved. Host thank you for the call. Brings uphink rae some important points. Senator sanders has been talking about many of the same things for decades, and he has not managed to get a lot done. That is something voters are beginning to recognize and acknowledge. And why they are looking toward a joe biden, perhaps a stronger track record of getting things done and making progress. Wet another viewer saying need an fdr kind of candidate to help americans. The democrats abandoned americans for 40 years. The republicans do not deny their representation of the wealthy. This is why trump continues to be strong. Guest you can look back to what democrats have tried to pass the last couple years after taking control of the house of representatives. They have taken action on prescription drugs. They have worked to expand voting rights. Agenda focusing on health care, reducing costs, on expanding Economic Opportunity and taking on structural challenges in washington, which get in the way of progress. What we have seen is all democrats are committed to that agenda. Host this tweet saying what America Needs is Bernie Sanders. What we will get is joe biden. Bernie has moved politics back to serving people. Corporations do not like it. Caller good morning. Just a comment for the previous caller who was not sure between biden and burning bernie. Am concerned about joe bidens gaffes. That you are more likely to be medicare for all for joe biden because there is something on the table. Medicare for all for bernie, there is nothing there. It is hard to make nothing out of something than to make something out of that made no sense. You are more more likely to get through with biden than burning. As far as ukraine, i am concerned, but biden did not make those demands until years before hunter was on the board. That should not be a factor. It is just the Trump Campaign trying to gaslight. We come behind whoever the nominee is, we should be able to get trump out of office area out of office. Guest thanks. I think she keyed in on something important. Career, he has been a pragmatic leader who is able to achieve change, work together, make progress where we can. That is the approach you would take to the presidency. Let me conclude on a personal note. You are from washington state, one of the epicenters of the coronavirus epidemic. How is your family doing . Guest doing fine. Thank you for asking. I have family traveling back from overseas today. I am hoping the lines at customs are shorter than they were yesterday. Host where do you think this issue will be a week from now . Guest the virus . I think it will continue to shape the everyday lives of individuals, certainly our economy and politics for the coming months to come. It will have untold consequences. Host our guest is a senior political analyst with third way. Ryan pougiales, thanks for joining us. We continue with a look at the coronavirus issue and campaign 2020 coming up. Is ther eppsaddison president of the center for popular democracy. You are listening to cspans washington journal on this sunday morning. John Charles Fremont route the Pacific Coast into the United States. At the beginning of this story, the United States did not have a Pacific Coast. There was california, which belonged to mexico. Encouraged the american settlement of oregon and took part in the conquest of california in time for the goldrush. He did play a role in changing the map of the United States. On his book. Eep tonight at 8 00 eastern on cspans q a. Tonight, former Deputy National security advisor Katie Mcfarland gives insight into the nations political process in her book emma in her book. She is interviewed by Daniel Mclaughlin danielle mclaughlin. , we aremically constantly reinventing ourselves , not just as individuals, but as a nation. A status quo institution. Are going to do these things the same way again. It is people who get stuck. America is set up to have political revolutions. We had one in the very beginning in the american revolution, but since then we have mostly had revolutions in the ballot box. K. T. Mcfarland tonight at 9 00 p. M. Eastern on afterwards on book tv. Washington journal continues. Joining us from los angeles is Jennifer Eppsaddison, president and executive director of the center for popular democracy. Good sunday morning. Thank you for being with us. Guest thank you for having me. Host tell us about your organization. Guest it is a National Network of grassroots political organizations. We are in 34 states. There are a lot of things our Community Works on. Fast food workers going on strike for better wages and the right to form a union, immigrants not just working to transform our broken immigration system but who are building the culture and fabric of their communities, black workers and black folks who have been struggling economically in this country who are seeking the opportunity to thrive and not just survive. Withe a network of people great imagination who believe that america can be a place where all of us have what we need, not just a select few. Guest we will talk call it host we will talk politics in a moment. This is from the Washington Post with regards to the dominant store in our country, the coronavirus issue. It is here. Now what . How do you answer that . My ownfirst, let me say kids, i have two kids in Los Angeles Public schools. Both will be out of School Starting monday. I know what a transition this will be for parents across the country who are trying to figure out childcare while also figuring out what they are going to do about work. Notof us have our minds just frontline workers in health care and first responders, which we are all concerned about, but lowwage workers, retail workers, homeless population, folks who are incarcerated in our Detention Centers. These are incredibly vulnerable population. We are concerned about them. We are seeing a difference in how President Trump and the democratic president ial candidates would handle this crisis moving forward. Host there is a debate between senator sanders and joe biden. Guest i expect finally to be able to get into policy issues. While there was a lot brought up in previous debates, the thing about this debate in particular is people are looking to hear what are those clear distinctions . What are the differences in the Health Care Policy . How would folks respond in moments of National Crisis . Issues toso many core democratic voters that we have not gone into, most particularly are we interested in going back to the status quo politics of the past that have left too many people behind . Or are we interested in believing another world is possible and investing in a candidate who is willing to fight for our community . In vermont, day senator Bernie Sanders meeting with reporters and telegraphing what he wants to ask joe biden tonight. [video clip] i look forward to the debate in arizona with my friend joe biden. Let me be frank as to the questions i will be asking. Do, what are you going to when 500,000 people go bankrupt in our country because of medically related debt . What are you going to do for the working people of this country and Small Business people who are paying on average 20 of their incomes for health care . What are you going to do to end the United States of america being the only major country on earth where health care is not a human right . Veto a really going to medicare for all bill if it is passed in congress . How are you going to respond to the scientists who tell us we have seven or eight years remaining to transform our Energy System before irreparable harm takes place to this planet because of the ravages of Climate Change . Peopleme when most young need a Higher Education to make it into the middle class, what are you going to do to make sure all of our people can go to college or trade school regardless of their income . What are you going to do about the millions of people who are struggling with outrageous levels of student debt . Joe, at a time when we have more people in jail then communist china, a nation four times our size, what are you going to do to end mass incarceration in a racist criminal Justice System . Host that is from senator Bernie Sanders caret Jennifer Eppsaddison, your response to what he is going to tell joe biden tonight or ask him . Guest it is hard not to be moved by that vision. A lot of people talk about Bernie Sanderss platform as being radical or too far left of the reality is his platform is bringing the Democratic Party home. We are seeing that with the support of the issues. 20 out of 20 primaries, voters have been asked about whether they would support a single payer Government Run Health Care plan over private insurance. 20 out of 20 primaries, voters have said yes. We have seen bernie bring this idea to fox news town halls and the audience erupting in cheers at the idea that everybody would have universal health care. I need people not to be confused here. My partner has multiple sclerosis. I depend on my health insurance. I have had the benefit of private insurance my entire life. I will tell you that nobody likes their insurance company. They like their doctors. They like access that they have. It is not their insurance company. We want to hammer home the message that it is not radical to provide health care. Most of the industrialized world does it. It is not radical to say we should not have more of our block citizens in prison and Detention Centers then were enslaved during slavery. It is not radical to say we can no longer put the process of fossil fuel profits of fossil fuel industries over the health and vitality of our planet and people. These are core Democratic Values and it is time we had a candidate who is not beholden to special interests among who is not paid for by billionaires and big corporations, but who has run a campaign that has been funded by grassroots donations to bring the struggling communities of this country together to amplify our voices for change. This is a survey from the university of north florida. The headline, joe biden has a 44 point lead over senator Bernie Sanders. We indicated these are different days. No large rallies. They are doing a town halls. How do senator sanders overcome a lead in the polls . Guest we want to win a primary and we are going to do everything we can to convince voters that Bernie Sanders is the right candidate to lead the democratic ticket. It is important for us to understand that, regardless of who the eventual nominee is, the Democratic Party is made of a Diverse Coalition that the progressive wing of this party 40 to 53 where from of primary voters and general election voters needed to defeat donald trump. I do not think either candidate is going to emerge from this primary with a mandate. What they are going to do these emerge from this with a governing coalition that will have to make concessions to moderate wing of the party and the progressive wing of the party. If joe biden tries to run a dimmer general Election Campaign that ignores the will of so many democratic voters, that ignores the cries of new voters coming into this system because they hope to create change, that is a losing strategy. We want to make clear that, regardless of who our general election candidate is, to defeat trump we need young voters to vote at record numbers. We need black and latino voters. We need women to come back to the party as well. That is the thing people have to understand. This is a governing coalition. Nominee, he is the is going to need to work with progressives to govern together. It will not be a status quo agenda that is going to move that forward. Host from a viewer in chicago, sending a text message, 202 while03 is the number, biden is ahead, he needs a great candidate for Vice President , either Michelle Obama or caroline kennedy, to capture the electoral college. Joe biden orink Bernie Sanders should consider. Wast our organization proud to sign on with many Women Leaders across this country who have stepped up to say we must have a woman, most likely a woman of caller, in that Vice President ial slot. We are in support of that. See hisould like to balance on the ticket. It would be great to have somebody rooted in the moderate wing of the party. If there is a moderate as the standardbearer, what we need to see is a progressive woman of caller who can carry the hopes and dreams and aspirations to transform this country into the general election. Stacey abrams, for example comes to mind. Barbara lee. There are a number of incredible progressive women of caller who would make excellent Vice President ial choices. The one thing i want to be clear of is one risk we face in the general election is President Trump running to the left of joe biden on criminal Justice Reform. We have pressed the Vice President on this issue many the 1994the author of crime bill and have yet to get a satisfactory response that he fully understands the impact mass incarceration has had, particularly on black communities. If the Vice President wins the nomination and nominates a , asecutor, a Police Officer there Vice President of candidates, that will allow trump to run to the left of him, particularly in black communities that have been devastated by mass incarceration. For all ofig danger us. Host does that rule out senator Kamala Harris . Guest if joe biden is the nominee, i do believe it rules out senator harris, amy klobuchar, and val demings. But we cannot do donald trump has canvassers not anymore because we have pulled canvassers, but he is sending out Text Messages to black voters trying to create wedges between immigrants and black voters. He has folks engaging black communities. He has opened 15 offices in black communities. One of his primary reasons is his passage of criminal Justice Reform. We cannot have a democratic ticket that is to the right of President Trump on the sick freedom and security of black and brown communities. Go to perry from fort lauderdale, florida. You are calling on the joe biden line. Caller i am a supporter of joe biden. I have a question for this woman. Bernie sanders talked about a lot of stuff. You never answer the main question. Other than the 15 an hour, Bernie Sanders cannot pass anything that he is promising. Nothing. If you were the nominee, black people will not vote for him. Seniors will not vote for him. Everybody turned on super to vote for biden because they know he is the best person for the job. Berniew, i am mad at because he is doing this to become the first jewish president. Jennifer. Name is thank you for your comments. A real say there is ideological debate happening in the party. Are winning the debate around the issue and losing the debate around electability largely because we keep being told by folks that a world in which all the people we care about our taking care of, a world where people are not making impossible choices between paying for insulin and paying their light bill, that a world where folks can go out there and work and not be hampered by hundreds of thousands of dollars of student loan debt, that that kind of world is not possible. What i think senator sanders and those of us in the movement are here to say is another world is possible. We have to hold corporations accountable. We have to make a decision to say it is on acceptable to continue to allow people to make massive profits off of the painandsuffering of our communities. Care are areas like health where as long as you allow people to profit off of peoples most trying times, we will never get the care we need. I hear folks saying there are vested interests that oil companies, pharmaceutical companies, there are a lot of vested interests in preventing senator sanders from winning the nomination. Those folks coalesced around each other before super tuesday to launch a series of attacks. What our movement wants to do is make sure every person in this country has the freedom to thrive. That is what we have to come back to as our message. That is a message that will resonate and help us hold the house and take back the senate. My firstars, since election voting, when al gore was our nominee, we have been told we have to nominate a moderate, a neoliberal, in order to win the nomination. In 20 years, we have only won two of those elections. It was with president barack obama, who was running on things like singlepayer health care. I believe voters will respond and democratic voters will vote for whoever the nominee is. What im asking is to consider not just electing someone who we think will defeat trump. I think both candidates can do that. Lets elect somebody willing to build the country of our dreams with us. Lets go to brenda. Caller good morning. Because he is a who waseddy roosevelt, a republican but saw the need to change. Change the way the american structure was for big business. We have the problem that trickles down to everybody. One thing i want to comment is the reporters on tv and Everything Else and trump, everybody is so close together they might as well reach across and kiss each other. A six foott doing rule to protect themselves when they go home to their families. Host thank you. Guest i was in detroit knocking doors and i posted about it on my social media. I took pictures. I did the last two walks of my route and every other house was boarded up, was raised, was falling apart. Entire neighborhoods that have been hauled out. People have to understand that donald trump did not create all of the pain and misery happening in our communities. Our communities were struggling long before trump and trumpism emerged. We have to take on the White Supremacy of this administration. We need to make sure we stop these massive corporate giveaways and tax cuts. We need to do more than that for the 500,000 people sleeping on our streets every night. We have to do more than defeat trump for the 89 Million People who are underinsured or uninsured. We have to do more than just defeat donald trump if we expect black people to expect more and have more in this country than simply not being told by the police. That is not freedom for our communities. That is the message of senator sanders. It is not just a return to the status quo that lets 40 million americans struggling in poverty. It is about transforming our economy so we do not just see the economy as how well wall street is doing but we see it as how many people can keep food on their table, how many people can keep a roof over their heads. We have to transform the way we think about energy so we do not have to make impossible choices between folks getting black lung disease in their 30s and having energy for our families. Senator sanders is the only candidate left in the race that is offering this vision of transformation. Folks can call it a revolution, but if it is that it is a revolution of care, of democracy. It is a revolution taking power away from corporate interests that extract and exploit our communities and put it back into the hands of everyday people who make this country so strong. Jennifer eppsaddison is joining us from los angeles. Glenn is next in louisiana. Caller good morning. How are you . Thank you for taking my call. Trump refusedent the World Health Organizations tests that were offered . Was it because they were not made in america . Thank you. Host thank you. Guest i think what you are highlighting is what is the Crisis Response . What we have heard from Vice President biden and senator sanders is we need to make testing widely available to people. We need to ramp up reduction of test kits. Production of test kits. What senator sanders is talking about is not just how we deal with this immediate crisis but how do we have to build scaffolding around our infant institutions. How do we transform institutions so that when the next crisis comes along we are better prepared to care for communities . That includes things like calling for a moratorium on addiction and utility shut off. In includes not just calling for extending a believe to folks now paid leave to folks right now but listening to grassroots organizations and workers who have been in campaigns to demand paid sick leave for decades. Senator sanders wants to make sure every american has paid sick leave and he wants that to be permanent. If we look forward to the treatment of this virus and crisis, senator sanders wants to make sure that not just the test is free but the vaccine, if one becomes available, is free, that any treatment and Health Care People need is free. He wants to make sure nobody will die because they are not sure if they can afford emergency room copay. That is the difference in this election and primary. You have two folks who have competent people around them but only one candidate saying we need to transform our institutions, to join the rest of the developed world in guaranteeing a universal Health Care System. We need to look at the folks in taiwan who just moved to a singlepayer system. We need to look at south korea and the way they are making testing universally available. We need to look at these systems and learn from them and quickly transform our Health Care System into one that puts people over profit. To michigan, aveled tennessee, and elsewhere talking to supporters of President Trump. The headline, in a crisis, supporters look to trump more than ever. One of the individuals they talked to is 49 years old, a Real Estate Agent calling all of this a media hoax with regards to the coronavirus. Your response. Guest it does not surprise me because President Trump himself two weeks ago at a Campaign Rally was calling the coronavirus a democratic hoax. This is very dangerous. It is one of the reasons why the best protection we have, social distancing, people are having a difficult time. We saw bars were still filled. It is because of the leadership of this administration, who has a press conference with ceos of companies, who tells people not to touch each other and then shakes all of their hands and touches the podium. It is clear we need different leadership. I believe the people Vice President biden and senator sanders will be better than President Trump at handling this crisis. What we need is to not have to act in a piecemeal way crisis by crisis. Is many families, cancer there coronavirus. For many families, diabetes is there coronavirus. For many families, having a chronic illness like multiple sclerosis, which my partner has, is there coronavirus. We need a social safety net all the time, not just when there is a Global Pandemic but for care and Community Members to be able to care for their families when they are sick and not go bankrupt similar because they are human and get sick. That is the type of system we need. I think we can make that case as more and more people will be touched by this virus. Moreve seen folks are much open to a singlepayer system, having just spent a week under the effects of this Global Pandemic, then they were previous. That is good for all of us who believe health care is a human right. Host market rights, american progressives have to learn the lesson that u. K. Progressives just learned, that being popular with activists does not necessarily transfer into votes. I know u. S. Voters are a disappointment for bernie fans right now, but most folks are moderate. Club for growth, taking aim at senator Bernie Sanders. [video clip] in 2016 the dnc rigged it. 2020, deja vu. He will do anything to stop bernie. The media machine hyping losers. They say bernie cannot win. 600 million could not get it done. Now the billionaires are propping up joe biden because they own him. Do not let them steal it and if they do, remember in november. Growth,at from club for a supporter of President Trump. Club for growth is a supporter of President Trump. Lets get back to your calls. Von in missouri, good morning. Caller good morning. Host good morning. Caller i support bernie because ofee him finishing the job fdr and Martin Luther kings job. He is interested in trying to fix things for the people. Also, we need 15 an hour and we need our manufacturing back. Health care costs, they keep talking about how much is that . 6 trillion a year times 10 years. 60 trillion. Can you imagine . I think that the republicans are going to say what are we going to do . What are we trying to do . We want to trade one crook for another. They believe that biden is a crook. Pointid we get to the where we accept mediocrity . I am black and all of my black people out there, when did we accept mediocrity . We cant do it so lets not even try. Thank you, sir. Host thank you, von. Guest while. Wow. That was so powerful. I want to connect with you may be offline as well. I appreciate what you brought in about our black social movement tradition. It is true that during the 1964 march for jobs and freedom, Martin Luther king jr. Called for, at the time, a two dollar per hour living wage. Wage, that would be over 17 per hour. We are stepping into black freedom fighters. Martin luther king called for universal health care. If you look at the black panthers 10 point plan, it was routed around the idea of building communities, of ensuring access to food, of ensuring access to housing and of selfdetermination. These are absolutely the principles that are carried for fourth in our vision of this country. Our families and communities deserve more. We have the top 1 of 1 , who are hoarding so much wealth in this country and getting tax cut after tax cut by this administration. 1. 5 trillion in economic stimulus, just introduced. Nation, whenas a big businesses and corporations are losing profits are when the or when the stock market is take action. Where is that Decisive Action for the homeless . Where is that for the students were burdened by millions of dollars of student debt that we are carrying across the country . Peoples that action for who cannot afford their insulin and are rationing their medication, often Times Leading to death. We can have that type of Decisive Action. We just need politicians, as the previous caller said, who are not bought and paid for and are independent of them and are rooted in providing justice to our communities. Virginia, sterling, michael, supporter of joe biden. You are on the air. Caller thank you. I just wanted to share with the cspan community that i believe that joe biden has the right competent combination of compassion and Institutional Knowledge to help our country begin the healing process, after the amazing damage that has been done over the last four years. Also, this is weird. I wanted to do a shout out to von. I am from warrensburg. I have been living in virginia for the last 20 years. Good job. Host michael, thank you. Ats hear from scott, a senator sanders supported. Caller jennifer is phenomenal. I could not vote for joe biden if bernie unless Bernie Sanders were the vp candidate or a position were created in the government specifically for bernie and joe biden committed to that where he would clap all tackle Climate Change and medicare for all on behalf of the biden and ministration. Otherwise, it is perpetuation the same systemic problems. We cannot have moderates. We cannot have incrementalism when we are dealing with Climate Change. We have already wasted five decades. We cannot keep continuing to procrastinate, as i am sure Vice President biden would do. Covid19s we have with is probably the most compelling argument for medicare for all and paid family leave. We have 50 percent of our families living paychecktopaycheck and we still do not have paid sick leave in this country. Therefore, people who are sick continue to go to work, potentially passing on this virus to others. And people who cant afford medical care for just going to the doctor when they are sick, again, are going to be potential carriers of covid19. They are not going to be tested. They will not be treated or potentially quarantined and so on. Again, jennifer, i will defer to you. Joe biden will not get my vote. I will vote for the Green Party Candidate again. We need progressives. We cannot have incrementalism. We need progressive approaches such as the Green New Deal and medicare for all to correct these systemic problems. Host thank you for the call. Jennifer, your response. Guest i think he is bringing up what a lot of folks are feeling. With the core democratic base, joe biden feels like the safe choice. I think people are making that choice because we feel so insecure under the Trump Administration. In a general election, you have much more than just the core democratic base. The reality is that there are tons tens of millions of people who will vote on the democratic lines who are not cardcarrying members of the democrat party. That includes independence, progressives, green party members. That includes people who are voting for the very first time. We need to actually construct a general election ticket that can speak to all of those communities. Bernie sanders has the most diverse and multiracial correlation in this coalition in this race. Black voters have a voice in his campaign and i think we are thinking a lot about that. At the end of the day, when we are looking forward to the general election, i believe that senator sanders is the strongest candidate to take on trump. I hear this demand. What the demand is about is about government. It is about the idea that as a multiracial and multiclassed, we need to be able to negotiate with each other about what our policies are going to be. I can tell you that Bernie Sanders will likely deliver the majority of his face as he did in 2016. More Bernie Sanders primary secretaryed for clintonthan secretary voters did for barack obama. Whether we will door knock and send Text Messages or during our hard earned money for a biden ticket, that remains to be seen. Bidenupon Vice President to bring the progressive wing of the party into governance with him. But, also to select a Vice President ial candidate who can really speak to progressives. That have progressive bona fides. I am extremely concerned that the only men he has brought up as of yet are people who are prosecutors. People who are former sheriffs. I think that is a losing ticket todonald trump gets to run the lesser of Bernie Sanders on criminal Justice Reform. Host our guest is Jennifer Epps addison. Angeles, werom los thank you for being with us. Guest thank you so much for having me. Host i want to share this headline from the boston globe. A coronavirus cautionary tale from italy. Many of us were too selfish to change our behavior. Now, we are in lockdown and people are needlessly dying. Com, there is complacency to emergency, how trump changed course on coronavirus. President trump assured americans that it was on the brink of disappearing and then two days later, he admitted it wasnt. Markets plunged after a stiff oval office address. His National Emergency he watched his own assessment transform in an extraordinary fashion. Forcing him into the unprecedented shutdown of the worlds arts economy, a nation of 330 Million People and it will mark the most consequential itetch of his presidency and appeared to rep is in a recognition that his path involved the nation with a spreading pandemic. For i start, may i please give acknowledgment to people behind the scenes at cspan that put each and every one of us on, every single day. Them ask you to all of well. Host we appreciate that. They do a great job. Caller donald trump is a new york. I am a new yorker. I am back in Staten Island. I came down here after what i called i am frank about this, having worked with mentally. Hallenged people i was in ithaca, new york and person who has taken government money and is profiting for their own purposes and saying they are doing something for the poor. Your tax money, my tax money paid every single penny on time, in full, for two years to dr. Harry merryman and three slugs in the basement caused me to have a hernia. I asked to have it moved. This stems from the basement to the dry garage. Instead, i had a retaliatory fix. There was no way to stop it. Andme down to new york city , because of disability with my service dog, i ought to have in theused immediately emergency situation. Because i cannot go to a group living situation. Cuomo,. Trump, andrew bill de blasio, all of my congressional leaders that i have dealt with from carolyn to max rose on Staten Island to the speaker of the city council, all democrats. Like mr. Trump, they did not want to look at what the law says. That is what concerns me. The likeleast of i am a who have a right, peace corps veteran, i have gone back three times out of my own pocket. We are not getting the response and respect that every Single Person should get. I tried calling earlier when last from new jersey said year, we are not divided, we are polarized. The fact is, because we are all in this together. What i am asking is that mr. It,p is, and i wont sing you told me last time i did. I better not sing. That he is a paper moon president. People know that in new york. We did not vote for him. At, i want people to look two things. His second book is a complete script of how he has run his campaign and how he is until now and what is happening. The second book is surviving at the top. He describes himself more like howard. Abouts why he is a freak germs. Loves mike. Mike did not care about money. Mike tyson showed him how to beat up opponents before they got into it as a distraction. Host we will stop you there. We enjoy hearing from you. We will hear from other people who want to weigh in with comments. This is from suzanne mcdowell, on our Facebook Page, saying i support the facebook the president. We are so over regular to. I dont think anybody can do better. He did better than obama during the h1n1 crisis. Is making it easier in the future to combat such things. There is this from the wall street journal. Trumps virus emergency whatever happens between wednesday night and friday afternoon at the white house, lets have more of it. President trump finally deployed the full force of the auto of the and government and private business in a way that millions have wanted to see. That includes declaring a National Emergency that will give the Administration Access to 50 billion or so in additional funding, as well as authority to deliver health to states and localities. The president resisted that step, perhaps he did not want to alarm the public or admit that news. The pandemic is in its early stages in the u. S. The fight will be a long haul. Social distancing by individuals and businesses may have to persist for weeks or even months. The good news is on friday, the federal government and private economy seemed to be mending the health barricades. Uss go to gregory, joining from silver spring, maryland. Good morning. Caller good morning. Host go ahead. Mr. Trump eliminated the office dedicated to pandemic prevention, established by obama, during the h1n1 outbreak. And, as far as trump working for putin to divide america, closing down the office to help america iskle pandemics, that deliberate. That is on purpose. Had he not shut down that office, i truly believe that we would be all getting tested right now. Me, i have had strep throat the last two days. I would love to find out if i have it and find out if im at risk or if my family is at risk. Host thanks for the call. Stay safe and healthy. Send in your comments on our social media. Susan says i have mixed feelings on it. I feel like he needs to be stronger in gatherings. People are not just listening, they are gathering in other places. Yesterday, there is this from the president. Pres. Trump we are using the full power of the federal government to defeat the virus. That is what we have been doing. Last week, we secured an initial 8. 3 billion from congress for the coronavirus. We said we had it quickly and very efficiently done. I want to thank all members of congress. Yesterday, i declared a National Emergency, which was a big deal. More makeit more than 50 billion available to us immediately in Disaster Relief funds. That is available for states, territories and the local government. That was really, really good. We also reached an agreement yesterday on a new legislative package that will provide strong support for American Families and communities in dealing with the coronavirus. It was done very bipartisan. It was very nice to see it. Thank the secretary of treasury, steven mnuchin, who did a fantastic job and worked with nancy pelosi. And their representatives. It was really good. It worked out really well. A lot of people are benefiting by it. Host that was from yesterday. All of the briefings are on our website. There is another one scheduled for today. It is 5 00 eastern time. 2 00 for those of you on the west coast. Way, dr. Anthony fauci is making the rounds on all five sunday morning programs. You can listen to those shows, beginning with meet the press, starting at noon eastern time on cspan radio and the free cspan radio app. 9 00 for those of you on the west coast. Stella in oregon, go ahead. Caller i support the president. I think he is doing a great job, as far as getting the tests. People do not realize the restrictions that are going on, where doctors and nurses cannot go across the line. If he would have come out and spread nothing but fear, that would have been worse. Everything would have shut down. Stores would have been hit like crazy. What was he supposed to do . He is not supposed to come out and spread fear. I wish people would give him a chance on one thing. It has not even been that long. All of the people that are out there that are supposed to be the heads of everything are there. They are doing their job. People need to calm down. I am 62. And i am disabled. I have copd. I am trying to isolate myself. My children pick up my stuff and drop it at the door. It might be panic but i am older. I mean, sure, i can go and get help. If i can quarantine myself . There is no reason for me to be out there. I can go for walks. It is not like item banned from society. I am banned from society. I do things different. I play games and watch tv and take my dog out for a walk. I try to stay six feet away from people. We all have some kind of mental or physical disability. Host that is stella from oregon. Thank you for the call. This is dale on facebook, saying support. I would rather have an experienced businessman attacking Something Like this than a politician. I truly believe trump loves this country and wants to be great again. His heart and mind are in the white right place. I cant think of any other person i would trust to leave lead this country. Lauren is next, joining us from california. Good morning. Caller i was listening to the president , where they were trump did away with the department of the pandemic disease control. When they asked him about it, he said that was not me. He turned to somebody else. It was he who did away with that. Epartment an another thing, cspan has a hearing with the cdc. Who had the head of the cdc commit to doing free testing for everybody and waive all costs because there was nothing written during the last virus that the cdc could take and take and make everything, all the tests and all that stuff free. That is my concern. The thing of it is people are sitting there and trump goes on and goes nancy pelosi up and says they will not bailout all of his hotels and all of the boats and this stuff and he goes on there like it is his idea. It was the democrats that laid down the things to help the people. Not the republicans. Host thank you for the call. This is from urban snyder, saying flights from europe deposit at american airports that did not have personnel on hand. , he andsmall example areadministration incompetent and oblivious to shortcomings. Host joe in wisconsin. Good morning. Caller thank you for taking my call. Host sure. Caller i would like to remind everybody when monkey mr. Trump ran for president , saying he 9 11. Bush for it, he was questioned about mr. Monkey trump says well, he was running the country. Now, since this has broken out, trump says he takes no responsibility. Monkey and our country is in danger. Thank you for your time and you have a good day. Host joe, thank you. Maureen dowd, her piece in the by thek times, plagued president. You can see in this photo through the rose garden, it is a picture of President Trump. Here are the details about what she is writing today. The cataclysmic changes of this past week have been a shocking and humbling reminder of how fragile we humans are. As we see our ecosystem vanish when confronted with a deadly pathogen. Until now, trump has mostly succeeded in covering up things that could damage him. From taxes to payoffs to paramores during the campaign, to blocking evidence and witnesses in his impeachment. The conversations with Vladimir Putin where the interpreters disappeared. A Global Pandemic is different treaty cannot cover up his lack of empathy and refusal to lead, his refusal to do homework and blame shifting. He said his national in his National Address that we must put aside jobs of partisanship and unify it as one nation and one family. He jumped on twitter to trash barack obama and joe biden, criticizing their response to the swine fluke crisis. Crisis flu crisis. Pres. Trump we are finding very little problems. Very little problems. Pres. It is going to disappear one day. Like a miracle. It will disappear. We will be suspending all travel from europe to the United States for the next 30 days. We have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get around just by sitting and people going to work. Some of them go to work. If you are sick or not feeling well, stay home. Politicizing are the coronavirus. This is a new hoax. Aside, stoppolitics the partisanship and unify together as one nation. Host that was courtesy of nbc news and from debbie, this has quick restriction to travel seems three working out great. Bottom line, the government alone cannot solve it. It is up to us to do our part and be smart. Dont panic. The president is doing a great job. Lets go to randy next from dalton, georgia. Good morning. Good morning. This is randy. I appreciate you taking my call. I am getting conflicting information about quarantines. , americanyearold vet. Vietnam veteran. I have heart disease. I have diabetes and heres my dilemma. I am wondering should i stay home or should i go out in public, especially to doctors offices that i have never been to before. The question is, what is happening is i have a claim and it is a v. A. Me i need toelling go see an outside, contracted me. That will evaluate i dont understand why they are asking to go back out in public, which i dont do. Have myr thing is i doctors. I have all the records. I have been waiting for 15 years. They will go see somebody else and ask the public at a doctors office. I feel like at this point in time, with the virus being the way it is now, nobody knows, that they should be taking my doctors word on what he recommends. To do they need to send me someplace where i could contract this virus . Host randy, i am not a doctor. I can tell you a couple of things. You should go to coronavirus. Gov or to the cdc website. They outline some of the issues you mentioned in your phone call. This is what the website looks like. At coronavirus. Org. Also, if you have any sense you might have any of the symptoms, you should call your physician to be tested and find out the appropriate steps to be tested. If you are a highrisk patient, you probably dont want to go to the er or a physicians office. Reach them on the phone and find out the next step. Since they are closer to your care than we are, that would be my recommendation. Good luck to you. Caller i have contacted the v. A. And, on my claim, my disability. Laim, it is a secondary claim i have tried to talk to the v. A. The v. A. Says if i dont make my appointment with this contracted dr. , therefore, i will get dropped from my claim. I will have to do it all over again. My claim has been in since september. And i still dont understand why it takes so long. Whenever i see all of the information, this is what i get back. I have tried to notify them. Host we will move on. I would call the contractor doctor. We are dealing with unprecedented times. Everyone needs to be understanding in terms of the situation. I would call that dr. And your own v. A. If you have a problem with the v. A. , reach out to your member of congress. They can help you as well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Lets go to vivian in tennessee. Good morning. Caller good morning. I oppose what he is doing. Theou think back, back in summer, when people got sick on those cruises, think back. That stuff was heading back here then. People go over there to china on those cruises, come back and were not tested. That is how this virus got started. People were Walking Around who have been on these cruises. And then, he sat up and said when it finally came out to the public, it is a hoax. I am tired of him saying this. He put our lives in danger. He did not want to admit this because of the election and the stocks. Have a good day. Host thank you for the call. Joining us on the phone is Kevin Jackson. He is a conservative radio talkshow host. He is from los angeles. Due to some logistical issues, he is not able to join us via video. We are glad to have a few mitts with you on the phone. Thanks for being with us. Guest thanks for having me. Host what is your assessment of the president handling the coronavirus . Guest it has been phenomenal. Last caller, it should she should really take pause and ask her how self ask yourself what she would be thinking if it was barack obama. Has been asking acting quickly. He has talking about issues related to the border, which a lot of diseases come over because of this. He has been talking about illegal immigration. The first thing that happens is people want to selectively remember how something got handled or claimed that he said the virus was a hoax. What he said was the people who this fraud onng america, by pretending that this is some big pandemic that we have never faced, that part is a hoax. His coverage has been phenomenal. Gavin newsom in california, the governor of california who is no fan of the president said such. He said they have lived up to everything they have promised with respect to how to deal with this. I would ask these people who are the naysayers, what were you thinking when the president said we need to stop travel immediately from china and a host of other things. They were not responding to us in this way then. We do not need to be politicizing this. This is a terrible thing that is happening to the country. What we are witnessing is the that, cization of an issue quite frankly, is not going to be as bad as most people say it is. We should not be panicking people over this, regardless. Know, one thing that we the shortterm economy is taking a huge hit. The dow, down 10 . S p 500, down 9 . The president is often talking about the stock market. If the economy moves into a recession, where does that put the president s reelection and his message to voters . Caller guest the economy is not moving into a recession. The dow tickets hit. There are many people on the other of this issue that are politicizing it and are happy it is happening to peoples 401 k s. Most of the analysts would tell you dont worry about it. The market is cyclical. The economy remains strong. The reason i can tell you this is that while chinas economy has been suffering mightily, not just because of the coronavirus but because of the policies and trade policies the president has implement it, i guarantee you that the orders and things that are filling the pipeline if you will, are still there. If you dont believe the economy is still doing well, go to the Grocery Store and look at the shelves that are empty because people are concerned and ask yourself what has to happen . Those shelves have to be refilled. Everything that is happening in this economy that is being negatively impacted because of a scare that is being perpetrated mostly by the media and leftists is going to have to refill that pipeline. The economy is not in a recession. It is nowhere near headed for a recession. Stockappened was the market took an artificial hit. Some people claim it is a correction. It is not a correction. It is peoples fears being realized. A couple of times during this whole pandemic, the stock market has rebounded. It has given us record days. I believe of the next few weeks, you will see record days as the stock market rebounds, because it will reflect the real economy. Kevin jackson host Kevin Jackson, as you look at the upcoming campaign, one of the things the president talks about is the africanamerican vote. He got about 8 in 2016. What do you think the number will be in 2020 . Guest it will be a minimum of 12 and will probably approach to any percent. The Critical Issues for blacks in america are being addressed by the president. Number one, criminal Justice Reform. If barack obama had eight years to address this, he had he did nothing. The president started the First Step Act and you are watching inmates come out of prison and no longer be considered prize. People who have served their time. Many of them are teenagers who made mistakes and served many years for crimes that are not that big of a deal. Possession of a controlled substance and things like this. As long as it was not a crime against somebody like a murder or rape or what have you, he is looking at those cases. Thats number one. The second one is education and school choice. On the criminal Justice Reform side, youre seeing the young lachman take notice and saying we are switching on the education side where the president has helped historically black colleges and universities, giving them more money than barack obama did and taking an interest in those schools and their historic benefit to blacks, as well as the education reform in general. He is winning over black women. There is not a statistical area the president has not improved. I am not just talking about with blacks. I am talking about with latinos, white educated women, women in general. He has moved the needle. I will make a prediction the president will get well over 70 million of the popular vote when he wins reelection. This was at the aipac conference, earlier this year. Paul had this to say. Lets listen and watch and we will get your reaction. A production. It is a certainty. Thursday, that is the day the democratic gives the acceptance address, donald trump will call a press conference to maralago. He will dump mike pence and put nikki haley on the ticket. Trump put pins in charge of the coronavirus. Host that is from paul. Kevin jackson, as a supporter of the president , what do you think . Guest there have been many rumors about nikki haley being Vice President in this next ticket. I think that she is an amazing lady. Ambassador haley a few times. She is amazing. At one point, i theorized that might happen. I can tell you with certainty that he will not make that change. There is no need to. Pence has done a great job even though i think most of america would say pence is no donald trump. Haley would energize the ticket. She has bigger plans in the future. I predict she will run in 2024. What is interesting to me is that paul makes it appear as if the president has to use a magic wand to get the election. He does not. I can tell you this with certainty. Black people are not overwhelmed that the potential and likely candidate will be joe biden. There is no celebration in the black community about this. There is nothing policy wide that will improve the circumstances of blacks. The same is true of latinos. The same is true of gen x, millennials and women in general. Joe biden is a fallback plan for the democrats. Why should donald trump do anything different except be donald trump . He does not have the Obama Administration attacking him and weaponizing the doj. He is firmly in control. The economy will recover. As i said, the economy is not the problem. The stock market is the only hitch. That will make a recovery before the election. The democrats tried all of these toxic tactics to double early. They thought the impeachment around ukraine would crater the president. We are trying a pandemic to do it. It is not going to happen. He does not have to make any wholesale changes. He can do exactly what he has been doing. I predicted this in 2016. The president has an undercurrent of people who want to vote for him, are going to vote for him, and the level of enthusiasm for his campaign versus any of the democrats. , itcould combine them all is head and shoulders better. Host Kevin Jackson is joining us from los angeles. We hope to have you back fulltime for a halfhour. Thank you very much for spending a couple of minutes with us. Guest thank you. Take care. Host doug is joining us from culpeper, virginia. How is the president doing . Caller doing fine in my book. I think the problem in my world is that they do not the president there to be the president. I think they try to control the president. I like the president. He is open create he does not shy away from what he believes in. That is the problem i think we have with a lot of the people today. I am a christian. Since 1955, i have trusted in the lord. I dont trust in people. That is the problem with the world today. If they started reading the bible, they would understand what is going on in the world today. Pray for the president and not condemn the president. Jesus christ was the one perfect person who ever lived but they condemned him because he was perfect. The president is not perfect but we need to pray for him. Stop running your mouth about him and calling him names. Most people will come back with a name when you call him a name. We need to quit doing that. This black and white stuff in this world irks me to know in. From this is a headline atlantic. Com, pete, who is a republican and a critic of the president is calling donald trump the calm man conman behind the curtains. Thatr the person who said needs to check his own light to see if he has ever done anything wrong. Most people have but they dont want to admit to it. Host thank you for the call. You what isto writing at the atlantic. Com. He says to be sure, the president is not responsible for the coronavirus or the disease that it causes. That said, the president and his administration our response will mostrave, costly errors, especially the epic manufacturing failures in diagnostic testing, the decision to test too few people and the delays in testing labs outside the cdc and the problems in the supply chain. Saying that the Trump Presidency is over. That is from the atlantic. Com. Alexis from wilmington, north carolina, good morning. Caller good morning. Thanks for taking my call. I have been listening to that kevin guy and the last caller and this article you just read. I am 71. I am an africanamerican female. I am on my way out. I call myself a philanthropist. Andve seen people with bags no place insight, a front door. And no front door, i offer them a ride. I know about the people intense, powerp in tents that. Piled up. The poverty is unreal. Like i said, i am on my way out. There are a lot of people suffering. I have seen trump have not seen trump doing anything about that. Host dan in minneapolis, good morning. Caller good morning. In reaction to Kevin Jackson, trump reacted quickly with lies. Not with a plan against the coronavirus. Trumpcares not about the not about trump cares the wellbeing of the citizens, he cares about power. That equates to reelection and pumping up the market. He cares about wealth and empowering the wealthy. He cares about a farright ideology and he has the need or wants to be revered by the people. Lies because he does not respect the average citizens ability to distinguish between truth and lies and the handling of the coronavirus is just another example of that. Thank you very much. Host thank you for the call. John is next from nevada. Good morning. How is the president doing . Caller he is doing a great job. He is the president of i am glad people have more positive views online, instead of all of the naysayers. The bottom line is this thing is being politicized. It is being weaponized. Any little thing anybody can ,ind on the democratic side just to keep throwing stuff at this guy. He has done more in four years with 10,000 monkeys on his back then the democrats did in the last hundred years. Bloomberg what about and his newspapers and all of the craft going on about nancy pelosi passes bills. Nancy pelosi does not pass the bill, Congress Passes the bill. Not the house. They write them and send them over, we take a look and we vote and we decide. The first shutdown was because anybody else tried to stop it, they loaded up on a bunch of picnic items they wanted to get. Steven mnuchin said it isnt happening so he sat down and dealt with it. Got all of the crepe out of it and made it about what it was supposed to be crap out of it and made it about what it was supposed to be about. Host the Free Chapel Church in gainesville, georgia, at 11 00 a. M. Eastern time, adding god bless the usa. At yesterdays press briefing, adam spoke to reporters about the political environment in this country and the media. Here is part of what he said. [video clip] yesterday was a big day, an important day for our nations providers in terms of the Emergency Declaration and in terms of the agreement with the house that secretary mnuchin negotiated. I want you to understand some Straight Talk from the nations doctor. We need you to lean into and prioritize the health and safety of the American People. No more bickering, no more partisanship. No more criticism or fingerpointing. There will be plenty of time for that. We need to hit the reset button and lean into moving forward. The health and safety of the American People are our top priority. More stories on how people can protect themselves. More stories on how people can get the resources they need that we have unleased from the federal government and state and local government. Host that is from the surgeon general. The white house briefing, another one is scheduled today. It is at 5 00 eastern time, although that is subject to change. Bobby on twitter has said this. The president s reactions have been reactionary. His real concern has been about money, rather than about the health of humans. Marie is joining us from tennessee. Go ahead. Caller good morning. Yes. Excuse me. My concern is that we have been told on a daily basis, numerous times a day, if you are in semicontact with someone or think you are in contact with , quarantine yourself. Dont be around people shaking hands and so forth until you know for sure whether or not you have contaminated yourself. I see the president on tv, shaking crowds. , the being in maralago president down there has the virus. Why he wouldonder do that on national television, numerous times a day. With china wonder, having the virus first, and the technology and the advancement that they have that we know they have, i would think that they for some kind of medicine this. I am wondering if the president has already been vaccinated. , and thatdent hence is why they do this on a basis. Host there is no vaccine yet. That is about a year out, according to dr. Fauci. Caller i am talking about in china. It is not like stuff cant be shipped in. We are talking about the Vice President of the United States. If they have been in contact with someone that actually has that virus, we are not, as a country, the government is not going to let them not be taken care of. Host i will leave it there. Thanks for the call. On facebook, trump has been way ahead of the curve. I feel better that he is in charge, rather than career politicians. Evoked athe president National Emergency. It evokes the stafford act, which allows them to tap into 42 billion in Disaster Relief fund. It instructs state governments to set up Emergency Operations centers. It allows hospitals nationwide to activate Emergency Preparedness contingency plans and the hhs secretary, alec cesar, is able to next up is april from lakewood, new jersey. Good morning. Caller good morning. Reference to the 50 billion debt that we have. My question is how come they are out 5,000 or 10,000 . I am fed up with the economy, as they have money in their pockets. Host thank you for the call. Raymond says this. I oppose the president. I have a couple of friends and coworkers who have had flu symptoms. All of them were told they did not need to get tested. I have a couple of friends who are nurses and they said they do not have any testing kits. No extra precautions or training on this. We do not seem prepared. We should be testing a lot more people. Paul is joining us from stone mountain, georgia. Good morning. Caller yes, good morning. President he way the has been handling this crisis. I think one of the points he has been making, as an excuse, to say that he has to come in and his administration had to remove red tape, it is not true. The truth is as president of the United States, he is manager of the federal government bureaucracy. Any red tape his administration perceives as being a problem, he has the power to remove on day one. As you know, he closed the white house National Security Council Directors office. It addresses issues of Global Health and security. Which most likely would have resolved if not resolved addressed the problem sooner. Host thank you for the call. This is a worstcase scenario. Let me underscore that. This is from the New York Times. The worstcase estimates for the u. S. Coronavirus death points out that it was based on experts from epidemiology and medical facilities around the country and around the world, they had a meeting last month that what might happen if the new coronavirus gains hold in the u. S. , the worstcase scenario, between 160 and 214 Million People in the u. S. Could be infected over the course of the epidemic. That is according to a production that encompasses protraction that encompasses four different scenarios. It could last for months or even a year. Staggering across time to different communities. Experts say as many as 200,000 to up to 1. 7 Million People could die as a result of the virus. That is the worstcase scenario. The story is available at in y times. Com, New York Times. Com. From is joining us mississippi. Good morning. Caller good morning, steve. I totally support what the president has been doing. He has been doing this since january 31, 2020. I want to read a headline from npr. The democrats will call it racist. Cdc puts americans who left wuhan into unprecedented 14 day quarantine. Launchingats were their sham impeachment trump in the senate. About gettingall trump out of office and not allowing him to govern. Contrast that. Maybe you can play the clip of barack obama in flint, michigan, water he wants a glass of. Please play that clip and remind people of what a terrible president he was. Thank you very much. Rebecca is from virginia. Good morning. Good morning, rebecca. Caller good morning. Host how are you today . Caller im good. Host how is the president doing .
