Lets win. [applause] please welcome labor representative, marine corps veteran, and former Democratic Party officer. [applause] hello, west michigan. Are you as excited to be here today to cheer on bernie, to support bernie, to win in michigan . [applause] what a great day it is. I am excited to be up here, expressing my support for senator Bernie Sanders. It comes from a couple different places. A friend of mine tells you you tell the story from your personal viewpoint and my ,iewpoint is that the veterans a a former organizer, and as current Labor Relations representative in the union working with healthcare workers throughout west michigan. [applause] heard in 2015 bernie Say Something very sharp but sustained, i knew that was my guide. He said, you have to be tough but not stupid. For me as a veteran, the son of a veteran, father of a serving marine corps marine, i can tol you, it is important have someone who understands that if we have to make the choice to put people in harm, we have to calculate the cost of caring for those veterans when they return and not just the cost of the tanks, planes, guns, and bullets. [applause] i can tell you, as a person who volunteered, been a staffer, been a Campaign Manager in some of the toughest races invest in west michigan, we need someone willing to fight and put it all on the line for the people of west michigan. [applause] we need someone who wants to embrace the ideal, the core message, the heart of the Democratic Party, and push things forward for working families across the country. [applause] families,g of working we need someone who we can trust , who has not just started supporting working families, but who has been there his entire theer for those who put in hours to support their families, supported their communities, and make this country the great nation that it is. [applause] as a Labor Relations specialist, i am the guy on the ground working with nurses, pcas, Health Care Workers when they take on their employer and fight for what they need to make those ends meet. I can tell you, it is very appropriate that we air that we are where we are today. Federale, we have buildings where the national Labor Relations board is and we need, working people need, a head of that group who will make sure there is a level Playing Field when unions go into fight for fair contracts, who will take care of those people. [applause] who will take care and look out, as their first priority, for those people who do not yet have a union. [applause] at who are going to keep it as a top priority to do the things that may be difficult, hard, but are necessary for everybody to live a good life in this country. [applause] someone who will fight for medicare for all. [applause] we need someone who will fight for us to have Affordable College education. [applause] we need someone who is going to fight for all of us, regardless of how much money we make, who we are, who we love, the color of our skin, and that person [applause] ladies and gentlemen, i have thatubt, no reservation, of that person is senator Bernie Sanders. Thank you. [applause] stage,se welcome to the former United Auto Workers Union President , bob king. [applause] these are people ready to build a movement, right . [applause] retortame is bob king, a retired resident of the ao w, longtime activist, and now a member of the American Federation of teachers, university of michigan. I am are many reasons passionate about supporting senator Bernie Sanders for president. Education, environment, health care the one i want to focus on today is the one i have personally experienced the devastation from. That is trade and trade policy. A lot of people dont realize, when these terrible trade agreements like nafta get past, it devastates communities, workers, in three ways. One, the loss of jobs. When you have been a boil worker and your company abandons you out of their greed, they want to go somewhere where they can get , that isfor less wages morally wrong. What happens in those communities. It is not just of the manufacturing workers impacted. Everybody in that community. Small businesses, many forced out of business because when workers dont have money, they cannot support restaurants or Insurance Companies or any other small business. You have the public sector. When workers lose their jobs, what happens to cap the tax base . It goes down. Services to the citizens go down. Teachers, firefighters, police wage and benefit cuts. It is wrong and impact us all in a big way. Is second major devastation the loss of worker bargaining power. Years iin my many bargained in my many years hundreds of thousands of contracts with manufacturing employers. Ever since nafta was passed, i have not been in a single set of negotiations where the boston not come to us at the table and us where the boss did not come and say, if you dont agree to these concessions, we are moving toward job to mexico. It is outrageous. [boos] again, onrd point the erosion of wages and benefits, that affects the whole community. hen manufacturing workers wages go down, a post on the service sector, public sector, everybody. These agreements are devastating us all. The third point that is important for us to understand, it is about the exploitation of mexican workers and workers in lowwage countries. [applause] we have got to stop feeding the greed of these corporations and the wealthy few in wall street. [applause] electt is why we need to who, hiscandidate whole career has been fighting for working people in this country, the only candidate that not only voted against nafta and p ntr and other trade agreements, he worked against them. He went to speaking engagements, he campaigned to stop these agreements because he knew their impact. What did his opposition do . His opposition. Only voted for every one of these contracts, spoke for it, he is part of the problem. Lets working people me say this. As working people, does not matter whether we are black, brown, yellow, white, all we want to do is make enough money, have decent benefits to provide for our families. [applause] so outrageous and hypocritical and wrong, these corporations that stole our jobs, destroyed our communities, they turn around and from this greed, they bankroll candidates and those candidates specifically and intentionally try to divide us by race. However he does is it to say to how outrageous is it to say to workers today that your pay is lower because of immigrants . Was it immigrants who moved plans to mexico . No. It was greedy corporations. When we come together, we build a movement, when we elect Bernie Sanders as president , we are going to change [applause] to have a government that works for everyone, not of the few. And take up where the organizer left off. Willing to talk to at least five of our family and friends before tuesday . Making sure they vote and making sure they vote for bernie . Are you willing to do that . [applause] lets build a movement to elect bernie and make the United States of america work for who . Work for us all. Thank you. [applause] please welcome, executive director of the water protector attorney, ande, Tribal Supreme Court justice. [applause] can you hear me . Kind of short, i have to really get up on these. You are a great crowd. This is the home of the odell a i also want to give a shout out to my brothers and sisters who often dont get counted. , there areyou know 15 plus tribal communities here in michigan. The land you are on was traded by treaties. You could live here. Thank you so much to our tribal communities for that. [applause] i want to give a shout out to my husband, this is his hometown , a tribal counselor, he is a sider. Est cider west so you know we are down for it. I came here to talk about support for Bernie Sanders. First, in our true native way, i will do one thing, to thank him. You foro say thank Bernie Sanders for letting me be here, to let our indigenous voice be heard. How important is that . [applause] contrary to some peoples beliefs, we are not gone, we are here. [applause] at we are strong and we are looking to Work Together with everybody to progress for a great future. This is a beautiful future we have together. [applause] the a lot of people in my community, they choose not to vote. That is a shame because we have an important voice. An important voice in the future of this country and particularly the future of this earth. The reason we dont do that is the affects of genocide and oppression have left us kind of hopeless about this system and how it treats our people and that is not untrue today even. We see what is happening at standing voc. We see what is happening in canada. They are getting pushed off their own tribal lands for a pipeline. [boos] that you. Thats right. It is important for us to vote and be part of this process because we can stop these things. It is legislation and people like Bernie Sanders that can help us do that. Right . [applause] want to show some of the examples of the different ways he helped our people. I had to write it down because there are so many. 2013, bernie cosponsored the violence against women reauthorization act. [applause] that brought muchneeded funds, muchneeded allowances for our own tribal jurisdiction to prosecute crimes against people who are perpetrating on our women and children. Did you know native american women, one out of three are sexually assaulted, kidnapped, or murdered . Did you know that . Know somebodyu who has been kidnapped or murdered . Ok. I think i know 10. That tells you something. Our lives are a little bit different. Bernie is helping us with that. Before, you used to be able to go onto a reservation, commit an act and get away with it because our lives are a little bit different. It would not get prosecuted. Clients can only give you a year in jail for rape tribes could only give you a year in jail for rape or murder. Can you believe that . He also voted in 2008 2 formally apologized to native americans for the instances of oppression and violence against our people. [applause] that means a lot. You cannot solve a problem, you cannot go forward, unless you recognize the problem and apologize for it. This is like kindergarten common sense. He is one of the only ones to do it. Runsairman of the senate off fair committee, he passed the most comprehensive Veterans Health care legislation in modern history. [applause] people are in the armed forces at a higher rate than any other Minority Group in this country. For protecting Turtle Island and we do it all the time. [applause] he ledourse, you know the way for medicare for all with portable health care act. Care act. Ble health that meant doubling our Indian Health care service, which is necessary. Until 1982, they were allowed to women interilize our our hospitals. And even now, we still struggle to get health care on our reservation areas and even out help withe city, his the funding has helped us greatly. More health care, happier people, healthier people. [applause] thing he did, he helped make the Indian Health care improvement act a permanent piece of legislation. That is a big deal for us. For those who dont know what that is, until now, we always had to rely on the Health Care Care that was given to us in someplace. Our own traditional healers, people who had been healing people for thousands of years with the medicines here, people who gave you aspirin, people who are so manythere medicines that you use nowadays that came from our people. But we could not get funds to pay our own healers to heal us under our legislation and he helped us with that. [applause] he championed the Older Americans act, which provides funding for home delivered and congregates your programs, disease prevention, and Caregiving Services for over 250 tribal organizations. [applause] to one going to cut other thing though. This is really important. One of our biggest concerns as native americans is the earth. Taking care of the earth for our seven generations. Bernie has the most comprehensive Climate Change plan there is in existence. [applause] that alone would make me vote for bernie but there are so many other reasons why. Finally, he has consistently opposed pipelines going through our sacred lands, he repealed back theon to take flats in arizona as our sacred land from a mining company. [applause] pipeline, ses the k xl pipeline he devil pipeline. How many of you were there . More importantly, he opposed line five. He was to get that out of here. Pipeline. He wants to get that out of your. I hear people saying we need to let the indigenous lead the way for a better future. Us indigenous, we overwhelmingly support Bernie Sanders. [applause] walk your talk. Vote for bernie. [applause] please welcome to the stage, elected member of the state. Oard of education [applause] [applause] give me a b. Get me an e. Give me a r. Give me a n. I. E me an give me an e. What does that spell . There is a song written in the 1960s by sam cooke and the title is, change is coming. [applause] latina, and soy we support Bernie Sanders. Why do we support Bernie Sanders . He has in the four years been consistent in 40 years, he has been consistent, he has been right there with the working men and women of the United States. [applause] you know what . Change is coming. Sandersporting bernie consistency, his boldness, medicare for real. New green deal. Climate change. Jobs. Education. [speakign spanish] [cheers and applause] spanish] do you know that my people is a giant, a Sleeping Giant . [cheers and applause] seconds, one of our young people turns 18 years old. [cheers and applause] one of voting power what a voting power we are going to have now that latinos in nevada, California Voting for Bernie Sanders for president of the United States [cheers and applause] thing will do the same right here, right now, and the state of michigan [cheers and applause] as our great labor leaders said, cesar chavez, he said it is great, it ishe about the cable and what does bernie say . What does he say . Not me, us. Not me, us. Not me, us. Vote for Bernie Sanders for president of the United States [cheers and applause] please welcome to the stage, professor, dr. , and former gubernatorial candidate, abdul syed. [cheers and applause] abdul all right [cheers and applause] believes it is time right now for medicare for all . Let me hear you and who here knows that we have got to fight for our great lakes, and that means a Green New Deal. And who here is ready to take on Corporate Power . [cheers and applause] grand rapids, you know why we are here, because it is not about me, it is about us wage. We have a fight to let me tell you, i have the privilege of driving this incredible state. No matter where i went, no matter who i talked tok people are asking the same basic question,. Why come in the richest, most powerful country in the world, why is it that people have to go bankrupt if they get cancer . When are we going to stand up for medicare for all . [cheers and applause] asking why it is that we rely on a system of energy that means pulling black stuff out of the ground, burning into the lungs of our kids, when are we going to pull that pipeline out of the great lakes, when are we going to fight for a Green New Deal . [cheers and applause] our kidsy it is that schools look the same way they did 30 years ago when we went there, while betsy devos is trying to privatize our Public Education system . [crowd booing] when are we going to get together and update our Public Schools . [cheers and applause] and today, we have an answer for them. You know what we are going to do . We are going to vote and get Bernie Sanders elected president. Now im going to tell you something, i had the privilege of being endorsed by senator sanders when i ran for governor. [cheers and applause] and he said look, i read the memo on you, i know what you fight for, the question i have is why you fight for it . I told him about my grandmother in egypt. The woman never got to go to school but she was this of the smartest, most powerful human being ive met in my life. And she would tell me, shed say listen, theres nothing special about you dont ever think this is about you. What you have is an opportunity. What you have is an opportunity. But heres the truth. Too many people in our country dont have that opportunity. They have to worry about whether or not they will be able to work a job that pays a living wage. Worry about what might happen if they get sick because we dont guarantee health care to everybody. Worried about the kinds of schools their kids will go to and even if they graduate with great grades, that they will have to take out a total of 1. 5 trillion in debt to do the basic thing of getting an education and dignifying their brain. They are worried about whether or not our governor government sees them and stands for them. It is about opportunity. Bernie sanders understands that. He realizes that the policy isnt just about medicare for all or a Green New Deal. That underneath those policies are people who are affected by them. So when we say medicare for all, he understands that what he is saying his mothers for all and fathers for all and sisters for all. [cheers and applause] he understands that when we fight for a Green New Deal, it is about guaranteeing our children and grandchildren the right to live and breathe and drink on this earth like we have. [cheers and applause] and he understands that when we shackle our young people with trillions of dollars in debt, we cut them off right at their knees. We have got an opportunity to make sure that every person in this great country of america has the right and the access to live free, to be dignified in this country, and that is why michigan, on tuesday, will stand up, we will say enough of the corporate chokehold on our politics and our economics, that we believe in our dignity because it is not me, it is us and we are going to vote for Bernie Sanders as president on march 10, see you then [cheers and applause] [chanting bernie ] this startiting for of the rally for Bernie Sanders in grand rapids, michigan. Later on, he will be down the road in ann arbor at the university of michigan. He will be joined by representative alexandria ocasiocortez. Tomorrow, the two Democratic Front runners campaign in the midwest. Senator sanders will be in st. Louis and joe biden will be in detroit. We will have live coverage on the cspan networks. Please welcome to the stage former senator, don rigell. [cheers and applause] mr. Rigell hello, grand rapids. [cheers and applause] wow, what a crowd. Here thanmore people there were when trump was inaugurated. [cheers and applause] that will be the first of the last time that happens for him. [cheers and applause] because we have a president coming that you will meet today who we will elect in november who will carry michigan on tuesday with your help. His name is Bernie Sanders. [cheers and applause] i want to thank you for electing me three times to the United States senate to help lead the fight for jobs and for the middle class. Back. Very good to be i also want to thank you for something else, and that is my wife of 42 years, lori hansen, a graduate of grand valley university. How lucky am i . [cheers and applause] is there anybody here from a union family, from the uaw . Let me see some hands. We lost a great champion the last two or three weeks in owen bieber. That name will be familiar to some of you, maybe not all of you, president of the uaw. He gave great leadership and came right from here. Im sure hes upstairs watching this because he was a fighter for justice. And we just need to keep him in mind, keep his example in mind. Bernie sanders has a wonderful Bumper Sticker that sort of says it all in three words. His name is on there and it says, not for sale. Not for sale not for sale i want to say it loud enough so that big shooters in wall street and other places understand, our candidates are not for sale. [cheers and applause] candidate. Is your and you are providing the money with your own individual contributions, no pack money goes into the sanders campaign. [cheers and applause] years, we fought to get Public Financing for president ial campaigns. And they said it couldnt be done. Until bernie came along, it couldnt be done. But with your help, he is going he has gone out and raised over millions of contributions averaging 18 a piece to be a competitive president ial candidate, and turned down the special interests were money. Interest sewer money. Coming from flint, as i do, born and raised there, i know something about what happens when you get poisoned water. And we didnt have to have poisoned water, but this political special interest money is like a giant pipe of sewer money, going to candidates. They are not going to this candidate, not to Bernie Sanders. Because his campaign is your campaign. This is your campaign. It is about you. It is about you. Are two or three issues i want to mention briefly here before he comes out and will have special things to say to you. Who can win about this race really depends on who on two things, and im going to start with the november election. Two beat and get that awful crowd out of the white house, we need a candidate who can win. We need a candidate that can win. Ive been sanders, through a lot of elections, he is our strongest candidate in november, make no mistake about it. [cheers and applause] and now, because he knows you are on his side and he is on your side. And if we stick together, we will get him elected president. [cheers and applause] tuesday is going to be like 10 minutes from now, thats election day, sunday, tuesday, the vote happens. We need every single vote. I cant tell you how important it is, we need every single vote. I remember four years ago in flint, the last debate, and i was there with bernie at that time. And they said he was 22 points behind. The pollsters said that. You know what happened when the votes were counted . Vernie won this state. He won it with your help. [cheers and applause] individually, each and every person that is here, you have so im going to ask you vote, which you well, but everybody in your family, your neighbors, your friends. We need votes on that day. That is what is going to decide this thing. So i cant stress enough how important to get out the vote effort is in the canvassing you were going to do, the calls you are going to make, the people you are going to drive to the polls. It all happens on tuesday. So i ask you, go all out. Lets get every single vote to the polls for Bernie Sanders. [cheers and applause] two issues i want to mention because they are defining issues in this president ial race. In the primary season and later on down the line. The two issues are nafta, the mexicanu. S. Trade agreement, and im going to start with that one because it takes a minute to tell it but it is important you know it. When we went into the nafta agreement, there were some people who fought it to the nail, i was one. Carl levin was one in the senate. Bernie sanders was the leader of fighting against nafta in the house because we knew what would happen. [cheers and applause] we knew what would happen, but ed, it wouldss rip the guts out of our industrial economy, we would have plants closing all over michigan, we said so at the time, we fought it to the nail. Both karel evan and i voted against it for michigan. But i have to say, our friend and he is a friend, joe floated for nafta voted for nafta. [crowd booing] and you have got to make the right vote at the right time because it is a test of your judgment, and it also come in the end, judgment relates even to character because who gets hurt and who gets help . The big players got helped with nafta. The workers of america got shafted with nafta. No more so than in michigan. And come to my home city of flint if you want to see how devastated it is, all the plants that are closed, all the middleclass families that have lost their standard of living as a result of nafta. Im going to give you one number to remember and take away. This is our trade deficit with mexico since nafta started. Is 1. 2 trillion with a t, in their favor. That is what has been vacuum vacuumed out of grand rapids, western michigan, eastern michigan, northern michigan, the rust belt these days, all those jobs went down to mexico. And a lot of people made money on that in the United States. But it wasnt anybody here standing here in this group. It wasnt your families. We paid the price. That was a bad vote. That vote had real impact. And it hurt a lot of people. And bernie voted the right way. And so did carl evans and so did i. [cheers and applause] friend, biden come our did not vote the right way when it really mattered. [crowd booing] but think about this one. Think about the iraq war. Some of you have been in the war. Many of you have been touched by it within your families. We have lost thousands and thousands of lives, our own soldiers and military people, men and women injured, many killed, and hundreds of thousands of civilians killed, in a needless war. In a war that was improperly carried out and where we were misled at the very beginning. I was watching that vote very carefully in the senate. I had left the senate by that time. But carl evans, god bless him, voted against the iraq war. Debbie voted against the iraq war. [cheers and applause] Bernie Sanders and the house helped lead the fight against an voted against the iraq war. [cheers and applause] of me tell you a couple other democrats that voted against it. Our good friend ted kennedy voted against it. Along with debbie and karel evan. So did robert byrd. So did 20 other democrats. But i will tell you who voted for it. Joe biden voted for it. [crowd booing] how do you explain that . You know, he is at he is our friend, we know that, but how you vote on the lifeanddeath issues, that is the real test and how you think and how you make decisions. And let decision was a terrible decision. And in the last election, four years ago, we had a candidate on both those things that voted the same way. Voted for nafta, supported nafta, and voted for the iraq war. We lost that election to donald trump. I dont want to lose this election to donald trump weve. Got a candidate that can be donald trump and wheat and he is coming out here in a minute. And he earned your support by where he has been standing all these years on these lifeanddeath issues. He doesnt have to come in here and explain why he cast a bad vote because he didnt cast a bad vote. He cast the right to vote. [cheers and applause] so get out the vote on tuesday. That is the key. And now, ive got Something Special to say to you. My notes are blowing around here. We have Something Special. To introduce here. And i want to welcome to the stage the person that i think is going to be the next president and deserves to be the next president , Bernie Sanders. [cheers and applause] he is going to come up here, he is going to come up here to make a special introduction himself. Here he is to make a special introduction. Bernie ] power to peo sen. Sanders thank, grand rapids i didnt know there were this many people in grand rapids. [cheers and applause] now iswant to do Something Different than ive done before. Today is a special day for me. Im going to just say a few words because i want to introduce somebody who is a hero for me, he is one of the transformative figures in modern American History. Jesse jackson junior [cheers and applause] jackson worked with Martin Luther king. [cheers and applause] Jesse Jackson helped lead the fight against segregation and racism in the south. [cheers and applause] jackson took that fight to the north. [cheers and applause] in 1984 and in 1988, Jesse Jackson put together historical campaigns. Transformedcreated politics in america. What he did as the first major africanamerican candidate in the history of this country. [cheers and applause] was to put together a coalition which he named the Rainbow Coalition. [cheers and applause] and today, we understand what that is, 30 years ago, that was a revolutionary idea. Blackat he said is that and white and latino and native american and Asian American have to come together for justice. [cheers and applause] and in 1984, he took on the political establishment. They said you cant win, and yet he ran a brilliant campaign. In 1988, they said you cant win. He ran an even better campaign. He came to vermont, i proudly supported him back then, he won vermont and a number of other states including the state of michigan. [cheers and applause] let me say this, the reverend Jesse Jackson has broken down more barriers than one could even dream of. And in my view, others may disagree with me, but because of all of the racism and all of the barriers that the reverend Jesse Jackson broke down, barack obama was able to become the first africanamerican president. [cheers and applause] if there was no Jesse Jackson, in my view, there would not have been a president barack obama. [cheers and applause] thank reverendto jackson for his support in this campaign. But mostly, i want to thank him for being one of the great important fighters for justice in the modern history of this country, and it gives me a great deal of pleasure im going to come back in a minute to add a little bit more, but i wanted to just say a few words about somebody who has been a friend of mine for 30 years, who is in fact a Great American hero. Please welcome to the stage reverend Jesse Jackson. [cheers and applause] [aretha franklins respect playing] [cheers and applause] rev. Jackson lets hear it for bernie one more time. [cheers and applause] this is an historic season in in 1965, theingyesterday mad right to vote, we lived and died together. In that struggle, remus was killed and that struggle. Those who fought to make it happen must not be left down today. [cheers and applause] the right to vote, august 6, 1965, began a revolution of values. The revolution of values. White women couldnt serve on juries. 18yearolds couldnt vote. Campus. Ldnt vote on and then there was a new majority. Blacks, latinos, we are the people. We are the people. [cheers and applause] i stand with Bernie Sanders today because he stood with me. [cheers and applause] i stand with him because his case for justice of the people. [cheers and applause] i stand with him because he stands with you. [cheers and applause] thank you, jesse [cheers and applause] ve talked about the firewall, it has some needs too. Coalition, the foundation of which blacken slavery black and slavery, unfortunately unfortunately we never lose when we fight together. [cheers and applause] and god has the power to see us through. What do we want today . We want the constitutional right to vote, not just the states right. [cheers and applause] we want to revive the u. S. Civil rights commission. [cheers and applause] slow the wealth tax gap. [cheers and applause] let them pay their fair share of taxes. 50 billion with just two cents on the dollar. Because this land is our land. [cheers and applause] through silicon valley, this land, we must have a common agenda. We talked about democratic socialism, what that all means. Democracy is of, for, and by the people. A fair, social, spending budget. [cheers and applause] someone called it economic bill of rights, then came social security. Johnson called it poverty. Brother king called it job for every american. Roosevelt, dr. King, they were on the right page. Thank god for Bernie Sanders. [cheers and applause] there is a great concern today about the impact of africanamerican women, there should be one on the Supreme Court. [cheers and applause] the real consideration to be on the ticket of the next nominee of our party. [cheers and applause] inclusion leads to growth. When there is growth, everybody wins. Yellow, brown, black, and white, we are all precious in gods sight. Everybody matters. Everybody in, nobody out. Everybody in, nobody out. Everybody in health care, nobody out. Everybody in health care, nobody out. Everybody in better education, nobody out. Everybody in decent living wage, nobody out. In an environment where we can breathe, nobody out. This land is our land. Do not let them discourage us. Rally, wee as you win. , every 18yearold votes this november, and next , if you are a college vote where i can choose. I have the right of residency. Say i am somebody, i am somebody. I am somebody. Respect me. Protect me. Never neglect me. I am somebody. Red and yellow, brown, black, and white, we are all precious in gods sight. If my mind can conceive it, in my heart can believe it, i know i can achieve it. I can achieve a new world. I must dream, i must dream, and dream, and dream, and i must keep hope alive. Keep hope alive. Keep hope alive. Keep hope alive. Keep hope alive. Never surrender. Keep hope alive. Bernie sanders can win. Will win. Must win. Bernie can win, will win, must win. When bernie wins, health care wins. [cheers and applause] [chanting] [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders let me just say to the reverend jackson, it is one of the owners of my life to be supported by a man who has put his life on the line for the last 50 years fighting for justice. [cheers and applause] and everything that Jesse Jackson said is what this campaign is about. We are going to do everything humanly possible to wipe out all forms of discrimination in this country. [cheers and applause] tired ofck and systemic racism in america. [cheers and applause] of a wealth gap where white families have 10 times more wealth than black families. [cheers and applause] tired of black mothers dying at three times the rate of white mothers. [cheers and applause] we are tired of a Health Care System that does not give care and justice to the africanamerican community. [cheers and applause] united, and i look forward, as president , to working with the Jesse Jackson at my side to make sure [cheers and applause] to make sure that we bring the principles of social justice, economic justice, racial justice, and Environmental Justice that has marked his entire life. [cheers and applause] and today, as the reverend jackson has said, is an historical period in American History. Can, we must, and we will defeat the most dangerous president in the history of this country. [cheers and applause] ha to agree with everything that Jesse Jackson said or that i say to understand that we cannot continue to have in the white house dishonoring our country, someone who is a pathological liar. [cheers and applause] cannot continue to have in the white house, no matter what your political view may be, somebody who is running a corrupt administration. [cheers and applause] in the whitee house, no matter what your political view may be, somebody who has apparently never read the constitution of the United States. [cheers and applause] abovedy who thinks he is the law [cheers and applause] somebody who is trying to undermine american democracy. [cheers and applause] we cannot have in the white house today somebody who is a who is who is a sexist, xenophobe, who is a who is a religious bigot. Donald trump wants to divide us up based on the color of our skin, where we were born, our religion. [crowd booing] our sexual orientation. [crowd booing] well, we have got news for trump. We are going to beat him because we are bringing the American People together. [cheers and applause] and that is the Rainbow Coalition that Jesse Jackson talked about. [cheers and applause] latino,d white and native american, Asian American, gay and straight. [cheers and applause] [chanting bernie ] sen. Sanders and we are going to win this election, we are going to win this election because the American People, and this is something Jesse Jackson has been fighting his whole life, are sick and tired of big money interests dominating our political process. [cheers and applause] democracy is one person, one vote, not billionaires buying an election. [cheers and applause] and that is why we are going to support a constitutional amendment to guarantee Voting Rights for every american. [cheers and applause] we are through with the voter suppression. [cheers and applause] we are through with the excess of gerrymandering. And we are going to move this country to public funding of elections so all people can vote. [cheers and applause] [crowd booing] [cheers and applause] and we are going people say, how do you unify the American People . We are divided. I will tell you how you unify the American People. You give them an agenda that all working people support. Thats how you do it. [cheers and applause] and that agenda says that in the richest country in the history of the world, we are not going to continue to have three billionaires owning more wealth than the bottom half of american society. We are not going to have an economy where the rich become much, much richer, when 500,000 people tonight are homeless in america. [cheers and applause] we are going to raise that federal minimum wage to 15 an hour. [cheers and applause] we are going to have equal pay for equal work. [cheers and applause] because Jesse Jackson and i, and you, believe in the trade union movement, we are going to make it easier for workers to join unions, not harder. [cheers and applause] we are going to revolutionize education in america. [cheers and applause] universal highquality affordable childcare for every family. [cheers and applause] tripling funding for low income title i schools. [cheers and applause] regardlessn america, of the income of his or her family, deserves equality a quality education. [cheers and applause] we, because we believe in education, we believe in teachers. We need more africanamerican teachers. [cheers and applause] we need more latino teachers. [cheers and applause] we made more special education teachers. [cheers and applause] want the best on College Campuses all over this country to say with pride, they are going to do some of the most important work, they come teachers, educate our kids. [cheers and applause] believe no why i teacher in america should make less than 60,000 a year. [cheers and applause] and because we believe in education, we believe that every person in this country, regardless of income, should be able to get the Higher Education they need. [cheers and applause] and that is why we are going to make public colleges and universities tuition free. [cheers and applause] know, 12 years ago, congress, against my vote, voted to bailout the crooks on wall street. [crowd booing] ago, trump and his friends gave 1 trillion in tax breaks to the 1 and large corporations. [crowd booing] while, if the right wing can bailout the crooks on wall street, we can cancel all student debt in america. [cheers and applause] for the last 30 years, Jesse Jackson and i have believed that health care is a human right, not a privilege. [cheers and applause] closer andgetting closer to that goal. [cheers and applause] continue to be the only major country on earth not to guarantee health care to every man, woman, and child. A cruel andcontinue dysfunctional system in which we spend twice as much as the people in other countries, and yet 87 million of us are uninsured or underinsured, at least 30,000 die each year because they dont get to a doctor when they should. [crowd booing] 500,000 people in america go bankrupt because they are struggling with cancer, or Heart Disease or alzheimers. [crowd booing] what kind of system bankrupts people because they are fighting for their lives against a terrible disease . We are going to end that Health Care System. We are going to move to medicare for all [cheers and applause] we have a president who tells us that he is a great genius. [crowd booing] oh, he knows everything about the coronavirus, and he even knows more about Climate Change. [crowd booing] this is a president who believes that Climate Change is a hoax. [crowd booing] well, we believe that donald trump is a hoax. [cheers and applause] you ready for a radical idea . This looks like a radical audience. You ready . All right. Hold on, i dont want anybody fainting. Will believeation in science. [cheers and applause] not right wing extremism. Scientists are telling us is that Climate Change is an existential threat. That is a big word. But what it means is in terms of the climate, our country and the whole world are fighting for our lives. What the scientists are telling us, if we do not act boldly and aggressively, major cities in america, by the end of this entry, will be underwater of this entry, will be underwater. Farmers in the midwest cannot grow the food we need. We are talking about more and more extreme weather disturbances. Flooding. We are talking about at the end of the century, hundreds of millions of people worldwide notming climate refugees, able to live in their own communities because theres no water to drink or land to grow their crops. Whether the fossil fuel industry likes it or not, we are going to transform our Energy System away from fossil fuel. To Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy under the principles of a Green New Deal. [cheers and applause] we can create up to 20 million good paying jobs making that transition, and that is what we have got to do. Change, as climate all of you know, is not just an american issue, it is by definition a global issue, as president , my job will be to reach out to the people of china who are already hardhit by Climate Change, to reach out to the people of india also hardhit by Climate Change, pakistan, brazil, countries all over the world, and make the ate that maybe, just maybe, this vital moment, unprecedented moment in American History world history, that may become a just maybe, instead of spending 1. 8 trillion a year on weapons of destruction designed to kill each other, maybe we should pull our resources, fight our common enemy, which is Climate Change. [cheers and applause] and when we talk about the issues impacting the American People, together, we will and a aoken and racist end broken and racist criminal justice system. This is america. We should not and will not have more people in jail than any other country on earth including china. [cheers and applause] people are disproportionately africanamerican, latino, native american. We are going to invest in our young people in jobs and education, not jails and incarceration. [cheers and applause] we are going to end private prisons and detention centers. Cash bail into end america because 400,000 people are in jail right now. [cheers and applause] what else were going to do, we are going to end the destructive war on drugs. [cheers and applause] it turns out, as all of you know, there are some things a president can do by executive order. Other things you need. Legislation. One of the things you can do by executive order, turns out, is to legalize marijuana in every state in this country. [cheers and applause] and that is what i intend to do. [cheers and applause] and the other thing we are going to do, let me ask all of you a question, how many people here know somebody arrested for possession of marijuana . We are going to move to expunge the records of those arrested. [cheers and applause] about justicelk and decency in america, we are going to bring about fundamental Immigration Reform. Going toe, we are restore the legal status of the 1. 8 million young people and their parents eligible for the daca program. [cheers and applause] we are going to end a border policy, which allows federal agents today to snatch babies away from their parents and separate families. [cheers and applause] and we will accomplish what should have been done a long time ago. And that is comprehensive Immigration Reform and a path towards citizenship. [cheers and applause] american, no matter what his or her political view, is disgusted and horrified by the level of gun violence in america. Is we willto you pass the most sweeping comprehensive gun safety legislation in the history of this country. [cheers and applause] trump and the Republican Leadership in congress are intimidated by the nra. [crowd booing] administration will not be intimidated by the nra. [cheers and applause] we are going to pass universal background checks. People who have engaged in violence, including Domestic Violence [cheers and applause] should not own guns. We are going to end the gun show loophole. Many other things, we are going to do with the American People today want, end the sale and distribution of assault weapons in this country. [cheers and applause] now, im a United States senator, and im on the floor of the senate often, hearing speeches from conservative republicans. And that is a painful experience. But im paid to do it, i do it. But, if you listen to these conservative republicans, their mantra is that they believe in small government. They believe in getting the government off the backs of the American People. We have heard that about 10 million times. While, i say to those hypocrites, if you believe in getting the government off the backs of the American People, understand that it is women who have the right to control their own bodies, not the government. [cheers and applause] [chanting bernie ] sen. Sanders heres my promise to you, i will never nominate anybody to the Supreme Court or the federal bench who is not 100 pro roe v. Wade. [cheers and applause] fight to codify roe v. Wade, put it into law. [cheers and applause] donald trump and his friends want to cut funding for planned parenthood. [crowd booing] well, we have some very bad news for them, because we are going to significantly increase funding for planned parenthood. [cheers and applause] [crowd booing] [cheers and applause] jacksont reverend jesse has spent his whole life talking about and what i believe is that campaigns like this are not about me, its about us. [cheers and applause] about understanding that we are more human, we are better human beings when we care for each other. [cheers and applause] backs onont turn our human suffering, because ultimately, every family in america, trust me, has its share of problems. We are in it together. [cheers and applause] got to care about your family. Your family has got to care about my family. Together fore pull all of us. [cheers and applause] us,the other point about not me, is this campaign is of course about a president ial election. But it is about more than that. It is about creating a movement. [cheers and applause] you what nome tell other president ial candidate will ever tell you, not know president , not Bernie Sanders or anybody else, can do it alone. [cheers and applause] when you are taking on the greed of wall street, when we are taking on the greed of the insurance industry, one we are taking on the greed of the when weutical industry, are taking on the greed of the fossil fuel industry, when we are taking on the greed of the militaryindustrial complex, and the greed of the prison industrial complex, and the greed of the whole sen. Sanders the only way we win, is when millions of people together, stand up and fight for justice. When they say to the corporate elite, sorry, this country belongs to all of us. Not just the wealthy few. [cheers and applause] betuesday there is going to a very important primary here in michigan. Back in 1988, Jesse Jackson won the state. In 2016, i won the state.
