We went out on strike in april. [applause] out Andor Sanders came walked our slight line with us. Our strike line with us. And let me say, he did not tweet like other people did. You thatave to tell this country is broken. It is no longer for the people. But rather for the billionaires. [boos] corporations would see you working longer hours, more days, and at poverty wages. You, n tell in california, pd is being held at pg e is not being held accountable for their profit mongering that resulted in devastations to communities, families, at a loss of life. An amazon is given tax breaks for lowwage jobs. [boos] they have high demands on their employees and those result in injuries and they do not even pay taxes to support the Emergency Services that have to respond. [boos] do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world, all things break at all things can be mended. All things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. As senator sanders is the only attentionwho has the and plans to make changes. [applause] changes like medicare for all. [applause] people will have to choose between, do you eat today or take your medication . The 15 minimum wage, because one job should be enough. [applause] restoring workers rights to organize and be treated with dignity and respect. [applause] and free college for all, so that everyone [applause] everyone should have access to Higher Education. [applause] the senator stood with us on our strike line and that is why i stand here with all of you, to say we can win this election. [applause] we can be to the establishment we can eat the theblishment we can beat establishment and take down that ard defiling our white house. As we say in labor, we are stronger together. [applause] thank you. [applause] [chanting bernie] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] spanish]ng [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [speaking spanish] [applause] [chanting si se puede] please welcome California State Assembly member representing the 24th assembly district. [applause] good afternoon. Backreally happy to be from sacramento enjoying all of you here to support our next president. [applause] again, i have the honor to serve the people of california at the legislature representing andjose, santa clara fremont. [applause] a little background about myself. I came to the United States as a studenting with two luggage fulls of textbooks. After i got my degree in engineering, i was hired by ibm and lived in san jose since 1978. [applause] my wife and i have the opportunity had a great opportunity here in the United States and raised a family with two children. And now, we have two grandchildren. Kimberly is attending the Cherrywood School in the bay area union school district. Go cherrywood. As someone who really cares someoner community and who is on the ground serving our community, i have endorsed senator Bernie Sanders to be the next president of the United States. [applause] as the people who cared about our Community Like all of you here, we need to increase the support for our hardworking families. [applause] those who are struggling to remain in safe and secure housing. [applause] city they love. Investments for affordable housing, funding for housing vouchers and rehousing programs. [applause] need to prevent people who of becomingdge homeless. Inneed investment highquality jobs and families are able to thrive. In our verysurvive high cost of living community. We need funding for firstclass Mental Health and treatment facilities. [applause] not moreore funding funding for jails. [applause] here in the heart of Silicon Valley, we have to invest in education. [applause] highquality jobs in technology industry, we need to provide Free College Education to close the gap between who can access those Higher Education and the opportunities and who historically have not. [applause] i am fighting for my trust bernie i sanders to fight for our country. [applause] as he did as mayor of burlington, vermont. As he did in the senate. Will as the next president of the United States of america. [applause] much. Nk you very [chanting bernie] please welcome [indiscernible] [applause] hello, beautiful people. [applause] do you feel that energy . That is the energy of the people of america who got left out finally finding each other. You, bernie for bringing us together. Here inrivilege to be this energy. For 22 years, i have been working day in, day out with a Global Activist Movement to end all forms of violence against sister entered, transgendered gendered, gainst cis transgendered women. Ive heard stories of women all across this country who have been raped, sexually harassed, battered, and i know all these violences are affected to other violences. Homelessness,y, mass incarceration, Climate Crisis, no health, colonialism, migrant oppression and debt. [applause] you have two children and no money, you may be forced to stay in a marriage where you are beaten regularly. If you are a restaurant worker who relies on tips, you may be forced to tolerate sexual abuse on the job. A candidate for president who understands the intersections that create violence all around us. [applause] has felt a multiissue, Multigenerational Movement to do this. That is why i am endorsing Bernie Sanders for the next president of the United States. [applause] we do not need a savior. We need us. We need bernie because he empowers us. Bernies movement is made up of working people of every race that are the backbone of our country, teachers, farmers,. Ocial workers, Service Workers it is made up of working women who hold up this country and have been ignored for far too long. [applause] they know what is best for themselves and we need to respect them and trust them. Movement is made up of millions of young people who believe another world is possible. They are tired of being told they cannot do things like save the planet and our people, provide universal health care wage, housingfair justice, immigration lgbtq justice, no more student debt and medical debt. [applause] standing with Bernie Sanders because he is openly and decidedly antiimperialist. [applause] believe i know the iraq war was one of the greatest decade andf this bernie voted against the war even when it was unpopular. [applause] i am standing with bernie because he prioritizes Climate Crisis as an existential threat. Has the most comprehensive immediate transformational climate plan that meets the scale of this crisis. [applause] i did not make this endorsement lightly. I have spent a lot of time thinking about this and reflecting. As a feminist and a supporter of womens rights, i was initially surprised to find myself supporting an older white man. But we all have many pieces within us. I am in antiimperialist, i am a feminist, i am an antiracist, i am asexual pansexual. We must rise to the challenge, prioritizing all of these moving parts. I believe that Bernie Sanders is mostest choice for the vulnerable amongst us. [applause] am proud to stand with ovement of so many amazing and naomi klein in alexandria because io cortez and alexandria ocasiocortez. Nd Barbara Smith principled men like cornell west. Mark ruffalo. We cut this myth of the bernie bros . Such beautiful, tender open hearted as i have met in this campaign. Tender openhearted men as i have met in this campaign. It seems to me things are pretty much run by women and particularly women of power. [applause] life toe given my movements. Found thenally i have movement i have been waiting for. [applause] a transformative redistributive movement that will take this country in a whole new direction. [applause] you know, some people say follow the money. I say, follow the nurses. [applause] had stages ago, i three four uterine cancer. I have to say, it was nurses who saved my life. [applause] nurses represent the very best of what it means to be a human being. Bernie, urses are with and we know the National Nurses united is one of the greatest endorsers, then i can tell you that is where the caring generosity, devotion, integrity, excellence and radiant future lies. [applause] i am going to close. I am going to Say Something to all of you. It is really scary to let ourselves hope, to let ourselves imagine, to really go for it, but everything is at stake right now. It is now or never. [applause] fly together or we fall alone. Today, i ask you, will you say yes to us . [applause] thisll you say yes to gorgeous Emergent Movement of our dreams . [applause] will you step out of your comfort zone and rise for our mother earth . Most vulnerable . The poor . The homeless . Black, brown and indigenous brothers and sisters and nonbinary . Those in prisons . Family on the border. Will youe . Will you those who are mentally ill and not abandon them anymore . Will you stand with those thoseou stand with without medical care . Will you love . Say it, i will love. Us . You commit to say it. Not me. Not me. Us. Bernie you make sure sanders wins in california . [applause] [cheers and applause] bernie]g please welcome u. S. Representative from california. 7th Congressional District hello, san jose. Great to be home. Let me ask you, is Silicon Valley bernie country . [applause] me, they said, you represent Silicon Valley. How are you for Bernie Sanders . Mored, Silicon Valley is than the tech ceos and executives. [applause] there are Public School teachers that make Silicon Valley. [applause] that do are janitors the work in Silicon Valley. There are bus drivers who do the work in Silicon Valley. Security guards and Building Trades and by the way, they have these groups they have the apple Affinity Group for bernie of engineers at google for bernie. They said, how is that possible . I said, they care about making sure their kids actually can go to College Without going into debt. [applause] for Public College is something that is good not just for the working class. It is good for the middle class, and it is good for anyone who cares about building a 21st century economy. I met someone from newark. They said, when people say why is there so much support for bernie, you have to listen to this. School board member in newark and her son, a 10yearold son has to get emergency appendectomy. She takes a person to the hospital. She is insured. At the end of the whole procedure, she gets a 3500 bill. Let me finish this. And her son, her 10yearold son sees the bill and he says, mom, i am sorry i caused you this money. I cost you this money. That is wrong. In one of the richest districts in the entire country that that is happening. That is why we need Affordable Health care, medicare for all. [applause] and if the coronavirus of which we had another case in santa clara county, if the coronavirus teaches is anything, teaches us anything, it is that we are only as safe as the least insured among us. [applause] valley, ere in silicon in the heart of the bay area, we have stood up against the iraq war and against endless wars. [applause] and there is one person running for president who is iraq,to end the war in stop the war in iran and bring our troops home and that is Bernie Sanders. [applause] under Bernie Sanders, there will be no more unconstitutional wars. [applause] before i introduce the man himself, let me say this. I was in South Carolina. I took an early flight. In South Carolina, i was saying to someone youre building a multiracial, multicultural movement. This 40 five rd woman came up to me and said, we are not just one movement. We are many movements within a movement. [applause] her, you know,o she is right. People whous are have stood for civil rights, people who have stood for lgbtq , people who have stood for immigrant rights, people who have stood for tenant rights. People who have stood for labor rights. Peace who have stood for and human rights. [applause] struggle fors of dignity and equality are converging. Place, moment, in this in our campaign for a more just america and the man the man who will lead us to the dawn of a new progressive era here and president of next the United States of america, Bernie Sanders. [applause] applause]d [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders thank you. Know, i kind of think i am beginning to think that san jose is ready for the political revolution. [applause] you sanders i want to tell i have spoken before many [indiscernible] [applause] before i go and any further, it is my honor to introduce to you, the next first lady of the United States. [applause] sen. Sanders let me thank all of those who have gone before me today. Cat fanhank the kitty club for their music. Let me thank the joyce manor band. Let me think jack johnson thank jack johnson. Think gloria asked about let me thank gloria asked a bond. Estefan. Let me thank representative ro khanna. Ro has not only been all over campaign,ry for this ro has been a great congressman for this district. Thank you. [applause] campaign is this issues. O fundamental issue number one, together, we are going to defeat the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country. [applause] sen. Sanders no matter what your political view may be, the American People understand we do liar as a pathological president of the United States. [applause] matter what no your political view may be, the American People know we do not want a corrupt administration. [applause] matter what no your political view may be, we know we want a president who has read the constitution of the United States. [applause] sen. Sanders let me say to donald trump, nobody in america is above the law, not even you. [applause] sen. Sanders the American People understand that in the year 2020, we will not tolerate a president who is a racist. [applause] sen. Sanders we will not is aate a president who sexist. [applause] sen. Sanders we will not tolerate a president who is a homophobe. Xenophobe. Who is a religious they get. A religious bigot. This country from the days of the terrible things done to the m. Ed. To the native American People said the horrors of slavery, we have fought against discrimination. Trump is not going to stop us. [applause] not only do we have a pathological liar as president , we have somebody who is a fraud. In his 2016 campaign, he told the American People he was going to provide health care to everybody. Do you remember that . He lied. Provide healthto care to everybody. He tried to throw 32 Million People off the help off the health care they have. Massive income inequality, trump told the rican people his would not benefit his billionaire friends. He lied. The benefits of his tax plan over a 10 year period went to the top 1 . In 2016, trump told the American People he was a different type of republican. He would not cut medicaid, medicare or social security. He lied. His budget calls for massive cuts to medicaid, but to care and socialist medicare and social security. You why we are going to win the democratic nomination. [applause] sen. Sanders why we are going to win here in california. [applause] and why we are badlyto defeat and defeat donald trump. [applause] we are going to win because we have the ,trongest Grassroots Movement multiracial, multigenerational [applause] sen. Sanders in the history of this country. [applause] sen. Sanders right here in california, our volunteers have knocked on more than one million doors. [applause] sen. Sanders and they have done the same in iowa, in new hampshire, in nevada, in South Carolina. Our campaign does not have a super pac. [applause] not wondered we do a super pac. We do not need 8 we do not want a super pac. We do not need a super pac because this campaign gets its Financial Support from the working families of this country. [applause] sen. Sanders this campaign has received more Campaign Contributions from more americans than any campaign at this point in the history of the United States of america. [applause] and the average 18 and . 50 a piece. [applause] what anders and that is Grassroots Campaign is about. It is about teachers contributing 10 books 10 bucks. It is about workers in amazon and target and taxicab drivers. It is about ordinary americans standing up and saying, we want a government that works for all of us, not just the few. [applause] sen. Sanders now, as some of you may know, the corporate establishment is getting nervous. I read something the other day that some lobbyist for the militaryindustrial complex was getting very upset because we might end endless wars. [applause] we might end outrageous cost overruns. Ofmight actually do an audit the pentagon. [applause] so that we do not have to spend more money on the military than the next 11 nations combined. And then there was a guy on wall street who was very upset. Worried we were going to ask wall street to start paying their fair share of taxes. [applause] then you got and the Drug Companies out there. They are shaking in their boots. Corrupt. Anies are the have been ripping off American People for years. Cases, they actually charge us 10 times more for the same exact Prescription Drugs sold in canada and other countries. Then, the insurance industry. They are getting very nervous. Imagine that the United States might do what every other major country on earth does, guarantee health care to all people as a human right. [applause] [chanting bernie] sen. Sanders the corporate elite are getting nervous. The political establishment is getting nervous as well. Some of the leaders of the democratic establishment are saying, look at the turnout here. What is going on . Imagine that we have a democratic party, which is composed of and led by working people in this country. [applause] sen. Sanders imagine a thecratic party which opens doors and welcomes young people into the party. [applause] now, many of the political and media pundits is,r new approach toward us bernie is a nice guy, but he cannot beat trump. He cannot win. Start, i would suggest they take a look at the last 75 national polls. [applause] sen. Sanders in which we beat trump 70 out of 75 times. [applause] look atders take a battleground states like pennsylvania, wisconsin, michigan. We beat trump. [applause] here is the and truth. This is a political reality. Do not underestimate donald trump. Tomay be a liar, he may try undermine american democracy, he may merge federal agencies into his campaign, he may say anything about anybody, but he will be a formidable opponent and the only way we beat trump is with the largest voter turnout in the history of this country. [applause] sen. Sanders and that is what our campaign is uniquely capable of doing. [applause] our campaign is reaching out to millions of working people who have given up on the political process because they think the establishment has turned its back on them. Two or threeing jobs. They cannot afford health care. They are worried about what happens when they retire. They have said, why should i vote . Reasonare giving them a to vote. [applause] and we are opening up the door for young people in an unprecedented way to get involved. [applause] sen. Sanders the very good news is that the young generation today is the most progressive young generation in the history of this country. [applause] this is ars generation that is leading our country in fighting Climate Change. [applause] sen. Sanders it is a generation that is leading our country in sane done safety legislation. Which iseneration antiracist. Antisexist, antihomophobia, andxenophobia antireligious bigotry. In other words, this is a generation that is exactly the opposite of what donald trump stands for. [applause] that is the good news. Generations is this does not vote in the kinds of numbers that we need. Youy, i am here to beg of let us reach out to young people all across the state, all across this country. [applause] them you are tell tired of hearing them complain wages, tudent debt, low sexism, whatever. Tell them we need them at our side in the political struggle for justice. [applause] now, let me mention something. Joe biden is a friend of mine. Here is the point. We have to be honest about this. We have to be honest and say, which campaign can beat trump . [chanting] sen. Sanders joe biden, at a time when the American People are sick and tired of endless rate of the terrible death we have seen from these wars, the trillions of dollars we have spent on these wars, please do not forget joe biden voted for the war in iraq. Booing] sen. Sanders that was the worst political decision ever made by the United States congress, and im proud to tell you i helped lead the opposition to getting us into that war. [applause] time when theat a middle class of this country is struggling, joe biden voted for terrible trade agreements like nafta and tmt are with china. Us millions of good paying jobs. Joe biden voted for a bankruptcy hurt the working families of this country big time. Joe was on the floor of the senate fighting for a balanced Budget Amendment that would have cut social security, medicare, medicaid and veterans needs. My point here is not to just be negative about joe. My point is to ask you all, what campaign is going to defeat donald trump . [chanting bernie] sen. Sanders you are not going to be able we are not going to be able to defeat trump when up onputs his ads television about a candidate who wanted to cut social security, who supported disastrous trade agreements. We need a campaign that speaks to the needs of the working families of this country. That is our campaign. [applause] reason we arethe going to win is we do not take money from billionaires. We demand they start paying their fair share of taxes. [applause] is thenders this campaign that says if you work 40 hours a week in the wealthiest nation of the week, you should not be living in poverty. [applause] sen. Sanders that is why we are going to raise the minimum wage to at least 15 an hour. Campaign that says women should not make . 80 on the dollar compared to men. [applause] sen. Sanders equal pay for equal work. Is the campaign that says, when millions of workers in this country want to join unions, we are going to make it easier for workers to join unions. [applause] under ourrs administration, and four years, we are going to Double Union Membership in this country. Says,s the campaign that we can create millions of good paying union jobs, rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. [applause] is thenders and this campaign which says we are going to make fundamental changes to our national priorities. [applause] sen. Sanders and that means we are going to put education at the top of the list. [applause] in highders we believe quality, universal affordable childcare. [applause] thatsanders we believe all of our children are entitled to the best Public School education in the world. [applause] believe all and we of our people, regardless of income, have a right to a Higher Education. [applause] why wenders and that is are going to make Public Colleges and universities tuition free. [applause] congressers and if can give tax breaks to billionaires under the trump ournistration, under administration, we can cancel all student debt. [applause] is. Sanders our campaign the campaign i have said from day one, health care is a human right, not a privilege. [applause] and together, we are going to end the International Embarrassment of the United States being the only major country on earth not to guarantee health care to all people. [applause] to. Sanders and i want thank the National Nurses united union and all of the other unions in this country who are that it with us to say is totally absurd that we are spending twice as much per capita on health care as any other country and yet, 87 million the fuss millions of us are uninsured or underinsured. Totally absurd. 30,000 americans die every year because they do not get to a doctor when they should. That a half aruel million americans go bankrupt because of medically related debt. In america, you should not becauseinancial ruin you are struggling for your life with cancer or Heart Disease or alzheimers. We are going to put an end to that. [applause] medicare for all means no more premiums. No more copayments. No more deductibles. Expenses. Tofpocket because we are going to lower Prescription Drugs in this country, but he pays more than 200 a year for Prescription Drug nobody pays more than 200 a year for Prescription Drugs. Medicare for all means dental aids, eyeglasses, home health care. End the hundred billion dollars in profiteering from the Health Care Industry and because we exemplify in anonymous lake complicated bureaucracy which wastes hundreds of billions of dollars trying to administer thousands of private plans, the average American Family will pay substantially less on medicare for all then they are paying han they are van the paying today. Her campaign is the campaign that says to the fossil fuel industry, our campaign is the campaign that says to the fossil fuel industry, that your shortterm profits are not more important than the future of this planet. [applause] hours is the is then that ours campaign that says we can create millions of jobs through a green new deal. [applause] sen. Sanders as we transform our Energy System away from fossil fuel to Energy Efficiency and sustainable energy. [applause] trumpanders donald embarrasses us every day. Hurtingne way, he is not only our country but the entire world, and that is, from believes Climate Change is 8 trump believes Climate Change is a hoax. I believe donald trump is a hoax. [applause] sen. Sanders and our administration are you ready for a really radical idea . We have ems services nearby if anybody collapses, but here it comes. Believenistration will in science. [applause] sen. Sanders now i know that in this day and age that is a radical idea, but sometimes you have to be out there. But what that means in a very serious sense, you all know what the scientists are telling us. They are telling us that Climate Change is an existential threat must actanet, that we as boldly and aggressively as humanly possible if we are going to leave this planet in a way that is healthy and habitable to our kids and future generations. [applause] know whatrs and you the president of the United States does not know, that Climate Change is not only real but that it is a global threat. To you. My promise as president , i will do Everything Possible to reach out to the people in china, in russia, in pakistan, in india, all over the world and make the case that maybe, just maybe, instead of spending 1. 8 trillion on weapons of destruction, maybe we should spend that money on fighting our common enemy, Climate Change. [applause] [chanting bernie] this is a campaign that is trying to be honest with the American People and not shove the important issues under the rug. One of the issues we cannot ignore anymore is the fact that we have a broken and racist criminal justice system. [applause] is america. this we should not have more people in jail today than any other country on earth. Disproportionately africanamerican, latino and native american. What our administration will be about is investing in our young people in jobs and education. [applause] not more jail than incarceration. Today, unbelievably, 400,000 people at this moment are behind bars not having been convicted of they are in jail because they are too poor to afford cash bail. We are going to eliminate cash bail in this country. To and private prisons and detention centers. [applause] it turns out that the president of United States can do some interesting things through executive order. One of them is to make marijuana legal in every state in the country. [applause] sen. Sanders let me ask you all the question. How many people know someone who was arrested for the possession of marijuana . That is why we are going to move peoplenge the records of with marijuana. About broken and racist systems, we have got to bring a Major Overhaul to our immigration system. [applause] i am the son of an immigrant. Countryr came to this from poland at the age of 17 with no money, could not speak a word of english, had very little education. I have some sense of what the immigrant experience is about. On day one, we in the demonization of the augusta rivet the undocumented. [applause] on day one, we signed an executive order reestablishing the legal status of the 1. 8 million young people and their parents eligible for daca. One, we and a board policy which allows federal agents to snatch babies from the arms of their mothers. Together, our administration will do what the American People s comprehensive Immigration Reform and a path toward citizenship for the undocumented. Usm coasttocoast, all of are horrified and disgusted about the amount of gun violence. N this country here is my promise to you. Our administration will have the strongest gun safety legislation in the history of this country. [applause] administrationur will listen to the American People, not the nra. We will move towards universal background checks. Nobody with the violent history, including Domestic Violence should own a gun. Loopholen the gun show end the gun show loophole and we will do what the American People want and that is to in the bed in the sale of end the sale of assault rifles. Anda United States senator i hear a lot of speeches on the floor from right wing republicans. Ooing] sen. Sanders over and over isin, they their mantra small government and getting the government off the backs of the people. If youo those hypocrites believe in getting the government off the backs of the American People, understand that it is women who have a right to control their own bodies, not the government. [applause] [chanting bernie] sen. Sanders under our move toration, we will put into law roe v. Wade. I will never nominate anyone to the Supreme Court or federal bench who is not one of 2 proroe v. Wade. Trump and his friends want to cut funding for planned parenthood. Weve got some bad news for them. We are going to increase funding for planned parenthood. Sisters, here we are in california two days. Efore the primary haventsome of you heard, california is the largest data in the country largest state in the country. Have brought delegates more delegates than any other state in the candidate who wins here will likely be the democratic nominee. [applause] [chanting bernie] today im here to ask respectfully for your. Upport on tuesday to help uso ask you change the political culture, bring out your friends and neighbors and their coworkers,. Et them to vote let us on tuesday have the highest voter turnout in the history of california. Let us win the primary, let us. In the democratic nomination let us to see donald trump. [applause] sen. Sanders and let us create a government and economy that works for all of us, not just the 1 . San jose, thank you very much. [applause] fresh off of his South Carolina primary win, joe budden is campaigning in virginia tonight. We will have live coverage on cspan beginning in about 20 eastern. T 6 30 p. M
