This award goes to a person who has exhibited the highest standards for what we consider leadership. This person motivates and inspires us every single day, they keep going when it seems impossible, they keep putting in 24 7 days, seven days a week, and quite honestly im not sure how this person does that. Thought, maybe it is clones, maybe this person has clones doing all this work, because no one person could do all this person does on a daily basis. Well, ofi thought, course she can. It is a woman. [applause] all right, democrats. How is it going out there . [applause] all right. Look around. You know, what happens in vegas only happens in vegas. In the beginning of what it means to be a Diverse Community that sets the stage for the president ial election happens ine, tonight, this week, this room. I think everyone in this room deserves a Leadership Award, because democrats in nevada have to turn a it takes state and not only blue, but pink. [applause] listen, we have an important week ahead of us. Early caucusing started today. The president ial candidates are here tonight. But most importantly, it is the people in this room who have only the country that not are we diverse, we are unified. And that is our power. [applause] honor are here tonight to a woman who honestly, whether it is a caucus kickoff, neighborhood party, the clark county dance, she is there every single time. And that is why we were able to 2018,ch a precedent in and i know that nevada will set a precedent in 2020 and take back not only the white house, but the senate, and we will get things done for families in our country. [applause] so i have the honor to reveal the envelope. So pay attention, guys. Drum roll here. Representative susie lee is presenting this very special Leadership Award. The clark county democrat the Clark County Democratic Party presents the Leadership Award to donna west. [applause] [crowd cheering] donna, weve got to show everyone our shoes. Course cover we are excited to hear from our president ial candidates tonight. But now, i have the privilege of introducing a woman who inspired s me. Her passion, her fight lifts us all up and keeps us moving forward. It is my pleasure to introduce my congresswoman from congressional dist 1, titus. Swoman dita titudina [applause] all right. Lets get some energy going in his room. All right. Titus and i have been a democrat since i was born. How about you . I have been a liberal since ther it wasnt even popular and they didnt call them progressive. Ina titus, and you are in my district, district one. Thank you for being here. It is been rough back there in washington. Much better to be home in nevada with a bunch of democrats. Every day i am reminded, and i said this before and got a little grief for it, but also yet again, the bests got to go bastards got to go. We were out there today attending some events, and people were lined up out the door. And they say democrats arent enthusiastic for this election . They are very enthusiastic. So nice that when they had to wait three hours, they were being polite and buying each other doughnuts, saying, take your time, it is too important not to do this. There is too much at stake not t to stay home. I know i am preaching to the choir, but we need you out there. Would need you registering voters, helping people turn out. Make this caucus is success. Lets show ir what it means to make nevada lets show ir what iiowa why it needs to be nevada that number one, not number three. [applause] i am back. Now let me introduce a man who has dedicated his life to Public Service from serving as a regent for our Nevada University system, to his time on the Clark County Commission including his leadership as a chair of the commission, to being the first democratic governor elected in 20 years. Sisselack is dedicated to improving the lives of all nevadans. Provided legislation to voting, cess to protecting voting rights, ensuring a womans right to choose and protecting collective bargaining to employees. Please give a welcome to our governor, governor steve sisselak. Thank you. [applause] [applause] good evening, democrats. We have to live in this party up just a little bit, folks. Before i get into my remarks, i will ask you to join me in thanking the tremendous culinary staff we have here who are serving our food today. [applause] nobody does it better than culinary 226, so thank you all for doing that out, want to give a shout something extremely important to my wife, the first lady who is here with me in this evening . Do we have the best first lady in the country or what . [applause] our educators. I wantare an educator, you to stand up and be acknowledged. Thank you so much. [applause] thank you so much. We are so proud of everything that you do every single day. We appreciate what you do for our kids in their classrooms. Thank you for being here this evening and helping us celebrate the kick off to caucus 2020, which has been a tremendous kickoff. We had early voting started today. My wife and i went to the center and cast our votes. Two over most of all people that voted by 4 00 today we were two of almost 12,000 people who voted by 4 00 today. You are making friends in the line while you are waiting. Everybody is getting along and it is a great atmosphere. But we have Incredible Group of volunteers. Just amazing. I want to acknowledge alanna and hardy who have worked very to pull this caucus together from lets give them a round of applause. [applause] we have so many volunteers working so hard every single day , and it is making a tremendous difference. It is hard to believe that the 262ember general election is 6 days away. That is just 37 weeks. We have a lot of work to do because we are going to put a new man or woman in the white house come november [applause] are one week in nevada from our first in the west caucus. Early voting started today. You have three days to cast your preferences and i encourage everyone to get out and participate. I want to thank the organizers and volunteers will have dedicated countless hours to knocking on doors, making phone calls and supporting democrats. Ultimately, that is what it is all about, ensuring that on inauguration day, it is a democrat that is being warned sworn into the white house, a democrat. [applause] and to the nevada state Democratic Party, thank you. I know everyone has been working around the clock to make sure we have a successful caucus. It is easy to point fingers, and we know there is a lot of fingerpointing, but it is not easy to just do the work every day, and they do, they get out, they strap on their boots, total work and get it done, and we have a successful caucus. We are one day into early voting and we will have three more successful days. Over the course of this primary, with our candidates, differences of obviously emerged. They have expressed their vision for our country. Differences make us stronger as a party and ready to fight come november. It is important to remember that differences are not have to equal division. We are going to be united going into november. [applause] we cannot afford to have fractures, we need to stay united. Isall of you know, nevada the First Western state and the most diverse state in the country thus far to have their voices heard. I ask you to look around this itm look to your looked to your right, that is what nevada looks like. That is what this country looks like. [applause] it is so important that your voices are heard as you move forward in this process. There is no denying that doing well in nevada is a clear trend to doing well in november. As democrats, we have so much to be proud of in the state of nevada. We have made tremendous progress on issues that are important to increasing our renewable standard by 50 in 2020 thanks to our legislature, makes a difference. To the expanded access ballot boxes across the state and implemented automatic Voter Registration so everybody has the right to vote [cheers and applause] we have increased the minimum wage, and i am so proud that we have finally given our hardworking teachers a raise that they have deserved. yes [cheers and applause] we created the Patient Protection commission, which has the charge not just doing another study, we are coming back with specific recommendations for meat and the legislature to move into the get legislative session and a handle on the spiraling cost of health care and Prescription Drugs. [applause] i would not be standing here before you as the first democratic governor in 20 years without your help. You knocked on the doors, you made the phone calls, you pounded and talked to your neighbors, and it is because of you i am the governor, and because of you have the first femalemajority legislature in the u. S. Of america [cheers and applause] before we get into this, he will hear the candidates speak here. I have got some advice to the candidates, three things i want to pass on. You can pull out a pencil and take a couple of notes. Nevada is not, will not and will never be the Nuclear Waste dump in this country. [applause] it is not going to happen. Fromed a Firm Commitment every candidate that that is not going to happen under their watch. Nevada is a strong union state and we are proud of the fact that we are a strong union state. Unions built this state and continue to build this state, and we are proud of the working men and women who go to work every single day, taking care of our communities. [applause] and third and finally, diversity is what we are about in nevada. Diversity makes as stronger, diversity makes us stronger, and diversity makes us better. We reflect the population in this country. That is why nevada is so important. And we are proud of the diversity we bring forward. [applause] the pioneer spirit can only be found deep in the heart of the we do west, where we know what no one else has done, where we dream where no one else has dreamt, and he accomplish those dreams by working together. There. T out those of you who havent voted, you got 30 days to vote early before the caucus next saturday. Get out there early and vote. And to the volunteers and staff democratic parties and the state party, we cannot begin to thank you enough for how hard you are working. You are putting in the hours and you are making a difference in the lives of our citizens and in a nominee that is going to be our candidate for president , and who will ultimately become the next president of the United States of america [applause] thats how we win. That is how we organize. When we vote, we win. We vote, we win. Thank you very much. It is the honor of my lifetime to serve as your governor. God bless you all and have a great evening. Thank you nevada [cheers and applause] thank you. Give it up for the governor, everybody [applause] is jason harris. I am a Las Vegasbased comedian and i will be emceeing tonight. But i know you want to hear a lot from our candidates. Lets get the noise going, please. Let us welcome our first candidate, senator Bernie Sanders [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders thank you. I would like to thank the Clark County Democratic Party you houting] we love sen. Sanders thank you, i love you too i would like to find the Clark County Democratic Party for turning this state blue and helping send excellent United States senators to the senate. [applause] i was delighted to be here in 2018 to campaign for your great senator jacky rosen, and to help her win, and they look forward to returning to help elect more members of congress and state officials here in nevada. I am also delighted to be in the home state of my good friend harry reid. [applause] harry, i believe, will go down in history as one of the great Democratic Leaders of the United States senate. Harry, thank you very much for all that you do. [applause] , and it a few minutes want to make just a couple of points. First, while there is in a hotly contested democratic nomination process, i am absolutely confident that no matter who the is, r winner to say, i hope it is me but no matter who the winner will be, i have absolute confidence that we are all going to unite behind that candidate and the feet the most dangerous theident dust defeat of most dangerous president in the modern history of this country. [cheers and applause] we all understand the us i know we are supporting different candidates here, but we all understand that we cannot continue to have in office a president who is a pathological liar, who is running a corrupt administration, who has contempt for the constitution and the rule of law, and who is undermining american democracy. Donald trump, you will be a oneterm president. Get out of here. [applause] now, i am sure that all of my friends who are going to speak to you tonight are going to tell you why they think they are the strongest candidate to defeat trump, so let me start off by telling you what i think. Why i think i am the strongest candidate to defeat in order tohat is, win in november, we are going to need a multi generational, multiracial campaign of energy and excitement that creates the highest voter turnout in American History. [applause] campaign that brings out millions of nontraditional voters of all races, including those who have given up on the political process, and younger people who have never voted. Campaign iswhat our about. Iowa,e recent caucus in where we won the popular vote by 6000 votes, and transpose suggested that the voter turnout with people under 29 entrance polls suggested that voter turnout with people under 29 was higher than in 2016. That is what we are going to have to do in november. ,n the New Hampshire primary our campaign won almost every workingclass community in that state, which is something we also are going to have to do in november. We are going to have to bring the working class of this country back into the Democratic Party. [applause] in order to win in november, we are going to have to have strong support from the africanamerican community, the latino community, the asian community, and the native american community. We cannot take these communities in myanted anymore, campaign is successfully working to our and their support every single day. [applause] of youhave, and some know, been criticized by the corporate elites and the political establishment for bringing forth an agenda that they think is too radical and twtoo extreme. I respectfully disagree. The agenda that we are bringing forth is exactly the agenda the working class of this country want. [applause] that my proposal for a 15 an hour minimum wage has already passed in seven states as well as the u. S. House of representatives. [applause] states andthat communities all over this country are already moving forward to make public colleges and universities tuitionfree and support for counseling all is extremely popular. [applause] and i am very proud that just today, in a major article in n, one of the most influential medical journals in the world, of the case was made for why we must move toward medicare for all, singlepayer. Quote, icle states, and i taking into account both the cost of coverage expansion and the savings that would be achieved through the medicare for all act, we calculate that a singlepayer universal Health Care System is likely to lead to a 13 savings in National Healthcare expenditure equivalent to more than 450 r. Ion a year in addition, the article points out that medicare for all will save some 60,000 lives a year, people who die because they dont get to a doctor because of no insurance. [applause] in other words, under medicare forll, werovide comprehensive health care to every man, woman, and child and save hundreds of billions of dollars by eliminating the profiteering and greed of the health care industry. In nevada and all over this country, there is growing concern about Climate Change. And i am proud to have introduced the most comprehensive Climate Change proposal ever brought forth by any candidate for president. [applause] the simple truth is that if we love our kids, our grand children and future generations, we must tell the fossil fuel industry that their shortterm profits are not more important than the future of this planet. And under the Green New Deal that we have introduced, we are going to create up to 20 million goodpaying union jobs as we transform our Energy System away from fossil fuel to Energy Efficiency and sustainable energies. And let me also say about the current campaign, that regardless of how much money a multibillionaire candidate is willing to spend on his election , we will not create the energy and excitement we need to defeat donald trump if that candidate pursued, advocated for and enacted racist policies like stop and frisk [applause] which forced communities of color in his city to live in fear. We will not defeat donald trump with a candidate who, in 2015, stated, and i quote, i for example im not in favor, have never been in favor of raising he minimum wage. We will not defeat donald trump with a candidate who opposed modest proposals during Barack Obamas presidency to raise taxes on the wealthy while advocating for cuts to medicare and social security. We will not defeat donald trump with a candidate who, instead of holding the crooks on wall street accountable, blamed the end of racist policies such as redlining for the financial crisis. [applause] the simple truth is that mayor bloomberg, with all his money, will not create the kind of excitement and energy we need to have the voter turnout we must have to defeat donald trump [applause] once again, let me thank all of you for the enormously important work you are doing in this 2020 election, the most on sequential election in the modern history of our country. Let us go forward the most consequential election in the modern history of our country. Let us go forward to beat donald trump. Let us go forward to transfer of our country. Thank you very much. [applause] [cheers and applause] all right. I love the energy in this room. Our nextady for speaker now . Our next candidate come on please give it up for tom steyer. [applause] hello you guys . hello nevada i me say this, today was fantastic first day of caucus voting, nevada. Almost 12,000 votes. Have been say, i coming to nevada since the summer of 1976 when i came here to work for 100 a month as a ranch hand in gardnerville, nevada. Worst pay i have ever had in my whole life, and the most fun. Let me say this. I know that people think of me as a rich person, but that is not how i think about myself at all. My mother was a teacher in the new york public schools. And when she retired as a teacher, she went and talked prisoners in a broken house taught prisoners in the broken house of detention. My father was the first generation in his family to go to college. He graduated from college at 18. My grandfather was a plumber. School,r went to law left the war to go to the navy in world war ii, because my parents were depressionera, world war ii babies who thought, you show up when the nation called. Prosecuted thehe nazi war criminals at the nuremberg trials. And let me say, what he had to criminals, what he told my brothers and me growing up is, when you see something deeply wrong at the heart of your society, it is your responsibility to show up and fight it. That is what they call the need to impeach movement. Inn you see something wrong america at 1600 pennsylvania avenue, you show up and fight it. Over a. 5 million americans signed that petition and drug washington into the idea that there is something that is right and wrong today, not just a political advantage. Business and build it into a multibillion Dollar International business and i walked away from it. I took a pledge to give most of my money to good causes what i am alive. Yearshave spent over 10 putting together coalitions of americans to fight unchecked corporate power. Let me say this, we have never lost. They are not that smart. Washington too take on those same corporations who fought our government, and get back to government of, why and for the people of the United States. I started one of the biggest grassroots organizations in the United States, next jan america. We have been in nevada our seventh or eighth year. Is on 10 campuses. It partners with labor unions in nevada. In 2016, we knocked on 500,000 doors in nevada. Nevada came through in 2016, if you will remember. 500,000 doorsover in nevada in 2018. Totally blew in 2018, if youll remember. You is ape to do with template for the whole of the United States of america, strong unions, grassroots organizing, governor, democratic two democratic u. S. Senators, Democratic State senate and Democratic State legislature. That is what i call success. [applause] so let me say this, what that means is, if we do that this year in 2020, then we get what everybody in this room once, which is Affordable Health care as a constitutional right for every american. [applause] it is quality Public Education starting with universal preschool as a constitutional right for every american. [applause] it is a living wage. 7. 25 is an insult to working americans. Nevada has raised the minimum wage. 15ve been fighting for since 2012, going out to people to strike at mcdonalds. But let me say this, and people have quoted me a fair wage today is 22 an hour. There has been a 40year war on working people starting with the breaking the air Traffic Controllers union. We have to fight back. I have been with unions in every single political fight of my life. First partner, best partner, last partner. [applause] i have fought for positions against Oil Companies and beat them, against Tobacco Companies who had won 17 times in a row and eat them, i pushed question 6 in 2018 in nevada 50 clean energy by 2030. I have done that around the country. We have never lost to these corporations. They are not that smart. , iare going to have look believe clean air and clean water are a constitutional right for every american. I am the only person in this race who will say that climate is my number one priority. And i say it knowing that i will start with environmental justice, with cleaning up the air and water in the black and brown communities where we concentrate our poison, and we will rebuild this country and create over 4. 5 million Good Union Jobs every single year for as far as the eye can see. [applause] those are some of the things that we are fighting for. But what we have to remember is, number one job, beat donald trump. Running on, he is because he tells us. He basically has told the American People you know i am a criminal. You. Now i despise 80 of you know i am a man of low morals. But you have to vote for me because i am good on the economy. And here is what i say, baloney true. S not i spend 20 years building a business where i had to understand what it took to create growth, prosperity, and jobs. I can take on mr. Trump. And every time he says the economy is growing say, yeah, but all the money is going to rich people. Every time he says there is no unemployment, i can say, yeah, but you cant live on those jobs. 7. 25 is an insult to working people. Every time he says the stock market is going up, i can say, it is. You gave those companies a gigantic tax break, but most people dont own stocks. Thats what i call the maralago economy. Its great for the people at the maralago country club, but its no good for working people across the United States of america. [cheers and applause] what i am talking about is calling him out on the stage and making him look like a liar that he is. 4. 5also, i am talking about Million Union jobs every year, the biggest work program in history. I am talking about a 10 tax cut for every single american who , and iess than 250,000 am talking about a minimum wage at least double what we have right now. Talking about an economy that actually works for the American People. So first of all, we have to beat him on the economy, and second of all, we have to do what nevada has proved democrats can do, which is show up. Grassrootsng to be a turnout election where it is going to be critical. We know they will show up. They always show up. We can stop worrying. They show up. The only question is, are we showing up . That question is going to be answered. We need a candidate who can pull together this party. Thats wide nevada is so critical. This is the first diverse that is why nevada is so critical. This is the first diverse state. This state reflects the wonderful diversity of america and the incredible diversity of the Democratic Party. But his wife this is such an important test, who are your votes are so critical and so important, because this is the time we will find out who the candidates are really can pull together this party across racial lines, across ethnic lines, across geographic lines, and across philosophies. So actually, nevada is going to be the first step to winning the white house in november of 2020. This state is the test. [cheers and applause] and the last thing i want to say is this, i know the job is to 0. N in november 2 i know the job is to get grassroots turnout, and i have done that across the country and here in nevada. Biggestcould be the voteras the biggest registration in 2018. I am not promising i will kick his asked on the economy, i can s on the economy, and i will do it. That is my promise to you. I will take on corporations and not lose. I will restore the rights to health care, a living wage, education, clean air and clean water, and i will kick Donald Trumps ass on the debate. Stage thank you nevada. It is wonderful to be back here with you. Have a great night. [cheers and applause] tom steyer, everybody i love the energy in this room. Should we keep it going . Are you ready to hear from the next candidate. Stage welcome to the senator Elizabeth Warren [cheers and applause] sen. Warren hello clark county democrats so got [applause] good news and bad news. Selfies,is that after i picked up somebodys cold. Good news is, nevertheless, she persists [applause] i am on this stage tonight because i am a fighter. You bet. I come buy it naturally. After my daddy had a heart carck, my family lost the and was on the edge of losing her house when i watched my mother fight back to save our family. I am here tonight because of all the people who have run for Public Office that you will hear from tonight. I am one who has been a politician, unelected official for the shortest period of time. I spent my life as a teacher and working on one central issue you bet, lets hear it for our teachers. [cheers and applause] and working on one central issue, and that is what is happening to working families in america. Is americas middle class being hollowed out . Why is it that our working people find the path today so much rockier and so much steeper. And for people of color, even rockier and even steeper . I have worked on this issue putting much all my grownup , and starting in the late 1990s i started ringing the alarm bells about the coming crash, about banks that were taking advantage of families over mortgages, over credit cards. And you know what i discovered, if you rang all the you can ring all the alarm bells you when peoples ears are stuffed with money, they dont hear them. [applause] and stayed in this fight, in the crash of 2008, harry reid asked me to come to washington to bring a little accountability to the tank bailout. Thus to the bank bailout. That started my path. Saw the crashen i and saw how many millions of people lost their homes, lost their savings, lost their jobs, i was determined that this would never happen again in america. So i got in that fight, and i had an idea for a Consumer Agency to make sure that big banks never have the chance again to cheat people on mortgages and credit cards and payday loans and student loans. Idea i wass not an elected official, but i went to washington and then knocked on doors. Democrat, republican, i didnt care, because i was out there fighting for working families. And here is what i discovered, people heard and they listened to the idea and they said two things to me. The first one, huh, that is actually a good idea. , it could actually make a difference. The second one was dont even try. You will be up against big wall street, big donors, up against all the republicans, and you will be up against half the democrats. Youll never get it done. I get it. Big structural change is hard. But it was the right thing to do. The fight, and i got allies in this fight. The first groups to come in with the unions, who got into the fight. The naacp that got into the fight. Consumers union that got into the fight. Aarp that got into the fight. And in 2010, president barack obama signed that agency into law. [cheers and applause] that is how we win. And we can make government work for the people. We just have to be willing to do it. So heres how i see this. We have now had three years of donald trump, and people across this country are afraid. Many people are afraid. They are afraid for their families, afraid for their neighbors, afraid for children locked up at our borders. They are afraid for children in lockdown in our public schools. They are afraid for women, for people of color, for lgbtq americans, for trends people whosepeople, all of whom rights will be up for grabs in the u. S. Supreme court. They are afraid for our nation and for our planet. So this is the question that democrats,u, nevada what do we do . The danger is real. Our democracy hangs in the balance. We can get timid. We can back up, or we can get in the fight. Me, i am in the fight. [applause] i am in the fight. Is an act ofing patriotism [applause] king tot against a build this country. We fought against the scourge of slavery to protect this union. We fought against a Great Depression to rebuild our economy, and we fought against the rise of fascism to protect our democracy. Best when we its see a problem and we fight back [applause] time for small ideas. This is no time to enable around the edges to nibble around the edges tha of the problems that our country faces. This is the time to meet these challenges head on, to address these problems with big, structural change, and that is why it am here. I am not in this campaign because i have a bunch of me theants who told right things to say. You can tell that. I am not in this campaign to put forward a bunch of proposals that have been carefully designed not to offend big donors. I am in this campaign to fight from a lifetime of fighting for working people. I am in this campaign to fight from the heart, because i is our moment020 in history. I believe in you, and i believe in the america we can build together. An america in which every person has value. An america in which every child is worth investing in. An america where people, not money, is the most important part of our democracy. [applause] and if you believe that that america is possible, and you think that america is worth fighting for, then i am asking you, get in this fight. Join me in this fight. Because 2020 is our moment in history. It will not come this way again. Moment to choose hope over fear. To choose courage. 2020 is our moment to dream hard andht win. Thank you clark county [cheers and applause] lets hear it for Elizabeth Warren, everybody come on [applause] keep that energy going for me. Are you ready for your next candidate . Please welcome to the stage, Vice President joe biden [cheers and applause] [chanting joe ] [applause] mr. Biden youve got it tremendous governor thank you. Thank you. Thank you. [no audio] youve got a tremendous governor and two great women senators, campaigned with. Jacky rosen and i love kathy cortez masto. Dana titus, thank you for all you have done for me. [applause] youreve, something else. I want to take you on the road with me. We have been getting out the early vote for caucus. The medically vote for, you should vote. And donna west, thank you so much. , and the workers who put this on, you are doing a great job. You couldnt do any of this without you. And if i might add, the country s first majorityfemale legislature [cheers and applause] the race for the nomination of president of the United States or the nomination for that office, there can be no none, atic nominee, without the voice of latinos and africanamericans being heard and heard loudly. [indiscernible] [applause] nevada is a state that looks like america. This is your turn now to decide who you want to be the leader of your party and the next president of the United States. And i am here to audition. [applause] but theres another reason. Another reason i am here, the carnage in our streets, and the consequences of the n. R. A. And gun manufacturers. Las vegas has endured the worst mass shooting in American History. One man with a assault weapons and magazines holding 100 rounds d the liveson ende and thered the families entire lives of decent, honest people. We must never forget that. I will never forget it. And i will never forget the anguish and the pain on all those families, and i met virtually all of them up in n,nnecticut, in newtow listened to their cries, just having lost a child in the most horrendous, horrendous, godawful thing that i have seen in a long time. I sat with them, heard their stories of anguish. Ill never forget their voice, cracking, of Young Students who survived the parkland shooting. Who came to washington to protest. When i met with them, telling me of their fears. Some of them, about how they still have nightmares. As a matter of fact, yesterday, a man who has become a friend out of a mutual tragedy i lost to cook with children, he lost a child, might not to gun theence, he is one of leaders in parkland. I called him yesterday because the second anniversary of the death of his daughter, the second anniversary. We cannot forget what happened. , and i knowdaughter i made a promise to myself, i made a promise to fred, and to my friend, mark braden, in newtown, that i will not rest until they are able to sue the who made therers assault weapons. [applause] [chanting joe ] fmr. Vice pres. Biden it is a promise i made, and it is a promise i will keep. I will not rest until we get assault weapons off the street, highcapacity magazines outlawed streets, and unto and finally, finally, we take on the gunmen of fractures for the carnage they have caused. The carnage they are responsible for accounts for tens of thousands of lives i minute, think of not just of not just the mass shootings, there is a mass shooting on our streets every day in neighborhoods of color and poor neighborhoods. Everyday, and we heard you talk about it anymore. I believe the carnage that they are responsible for, and the gun violence that is so rampant, i think they are tearing apart and ripping the soul out of this country. We have a president who is owned by the n. R. A. A president who is owned by the gun manufacturers and guess what, gunmen fracturing is the only industry in america that is exempt from being able to be sued, the only one. And they were given that exception in 2005. Some of the people running for office voted for that exemption. Adies and gentlemen, that minute he was granted, and it is a horrible decision. You, imagine if i said to we are going to vote to give the Tobacco Industry immunity, or the drug industry immunity, or the oil industry immunity, you would all think it was horrible. But we gave immunity to gunman fractures. Look at what they have done and what they are responsible for. It would be unthinkable if we give anyone else that. I promise you, president , not president , as i have a breath in may, i will do everything i can to grow after those gunman fractures. [cheers and applause] what i am president , i will take them on and allow those parents who are trying now to sue for the pain and mayhem they have caused. You know, i am the only one who has taken on the n. R. A. Nationally and beaten them three times, and i will beat them again. Passed,e brady bill which provided for background s cant ownhat whacko those weapons. Oh, they are, by the way. Sorry. And working with dianne feinstein, i was able to ban assault weapons and magazines that had more than 10 rounds in until we10 years, elected bush and he took them away. We will get it reinstated, i promise you. I promise you. And that is not the only important difference in this race. Health care. Health care is a right. Health care is not a privilege. , aslieve the next president president , we have to defend obamacare, not discredit obamacare. Baracksud to serve as Vice President. Nevermore proud than the day we pressed obamacare. And trump is trying to destroy it, try to get rid of it in court. Getsome democrats want to rid of it. I will not let that happen. I will not let that happen. It is not going to happen. Obamacare is the reason we have protection for preexisting conditions. Today on the line, on the rope line, and yesterday, a woman came up to me, started crying and said, thank you, you saved my life. I said, no, no. She said, no, i had breast cancer, a preexisting condition. After obamacare was passed, it came back and i was able to have insurance. And it saved my life. [applause] a day before, separately, a man told me of his daughter who had a childhood cancer, rare cancer, before obamacare. After obamacare passed, it came back. He was able to get the treatment she needed and he said it saved her life. Folks, we cannot jettison this. We cannot start over. I cant imagine i cant imagine. If i asked many of you to raise your hands if you lost a child, a son to a terminal disease or a loved one. Before obamaine care. I cannot imagine what my son hero, coming home from iraq with a bronze star making sure he got the service medal. But contracting cancer. I watched him lay in bed, the , in 18 months that he lived pain. I cannot imagine what it wouldve been like if someone came in and said i am sorry, you have outrun your coverage. Suffer in peace. We cannot allow that to ever happen again. Joe. Wd chanting Biden Obamacare lifted the hopes and aspirations of so many people. You have a governor making sure that medicaid is extended. In addition, it gave peace of 400,000 and over 150,000 children. My plan brings down the prices of drugs, copays, eliminates surprise billing. Importantly, it lets you keep your private insurance if you want to. Workersrdinary negotiated. They gave up pay raises to get one of the best Health Care Plans in the country. No one should be able to tell them that they can no longer have that plan. Nobody and i will be damned if we are going to erase the unions they startinsist over again. My plan will give every american a choice without raising the taxes on the middleclass. And most important of all, i can actually get my plan passed. I can only that i am the only one that has gotten one past. Folks, Speaker Pelosi and the Majority Democrats do not like medicare for all plans. Unions, workers in nevada are not for it. How in gods name do you expect to pass it . 30 trillion over dollars. How do you pay for it . Fanld trump continues to the flames of division and hate in this country. He has. It has to stop. It has to stop. The words of a president matter. A president can appeal to the best of us but a president can also appeal to the worst in us and tear us apart. Our children are listening. And this mans language, behavior, and lack of any fact, ity as he talks, in are being heard by our children. His attacks on immigrants come his degrading and demagogic language, why would we expect anything else then hate crimes going up . Else when you have donald trump for president. Who donald trump is. We have to let them know who we are. As i have been saying are well over a year, we choose hope over fear. I have been saying this for over a year. We choose unity over division. We choose science over fiction. And we choose compassion over cruelty. And maybe most importantly, we choose truth overlies. Over we choose truth lies. Truth over lies. Us get up and take back this country now. Now god bless you all and may god bless our troops. Joe] chanting [applause] joe biden are you guys ready for your next candidate . Are you ready for your next candidate . Please give it up for senator Amy Klobuchar [applause] thank you, clark county. I am so proud of what you have done here in nevada. First, you gave us the incredible leader for our country, harry reid. That was not enough. Then you decided you would send not one but two women to the senate. Us that you gave incredible congressional delegation and if that was not enough, you decided to give the women majority legislature. That is something. And today, with your great governor and legislature, nevada is leading the way on voting rights, gun safety, and standing up for our unions. We all know one thing, when unions are strong, our economy is strong. And when unions are strong, america is strong. So i think we can learn a little from nevada. You know i am from the midwest. Im looking at the results from nevada so i came up with an idea in states like michigan, wisconsin, and pennsylvania and others, we need to do it the nevada way. And that is to build a beautiful blue wall of democratic votes around those dates and make donald trump k for it. That i you all know started my campaign in the middle of a minnesota blizzard. I a lot of people that i would not make it through that speech. And then they thought i would not make it through the summer. And then they thought i would not make it through the debates. Have i made it through the debates . I am before you today as a usdidate that what unites as a party no matter who you are supporting is bigger than what divides us. We know that. We know that. And we also know this it is ant this election is economic check on this president because there is not shared prosperity. But it is also a decency check. It is a patriotism check. And what unites our fired up Democratic Base as well as our independent and some of those moderate republicans that will join us what unites us is this that the heart of america is so much bitter is a much bigger than the heart of the guy in the white house. We also know that the rule of law cannot tolerate four more years of a president that thinks he is above it. We know that our collective sense of decency cannot tolerate four more years of a president that does not care about it. And we know that the American Dream cannot tolerate four more years of a president that thinks he can choose who lives it. So what unites us, our great Nevada Democrats is this, and economic and optimistic economic agenda for the country. And a repeal of citizens united. We can do that. It is taking on pharma to bring Prescription Drug prices down. It is taking on the big interests in washington and making sure that we are looking out for regular people. To do any of this, to take on Climate Change, to make sure that we pass and stop the meanspirited rhetoric and finally pass comprehensive Immigration Reform to do any of this, we know that we need to win big. Eek we cannot just eat out a victory at 4 00 in the morning. We have to win up and down the ticket and win the senate races in arizona and colorado. If you want to get all of the great things done that you have heard tonight, we need to send Mitch Mcconnell packing. [cheering] sen. Klobuchar so, what do we do to get there . First of all, we know that we have this president that continues to think he can just distract everyone. We do not have to go down every rabbit hole with him. When i was in the middle of that blizzard, he made fun of me and called me snow woman for talking about Climate Change. I wrote back a tweet and said donald trump, the science is on my side and i would like to see how your hair would bear in a blizzard. So much of this is taking him on and being nimble in the moment and being able to do edge. I think you know my background. I cannot think of a better comparison. Billion over the course of his career from his dad. From his dad . The navynted to be in but he had to quit before graduating from even middle school because he had nine brothers and sisters and his parents died. And the youngest at age eight went to an orphanage in duluth. He vowed he would get her and borrowed a car and brought her back to years later. My dad and his brother were the only kids of my grandparents. They saved coffee can in a basement so my dad to go to community college. Went on to graduate from the university of minnesota becoming a sportswriter. He wrote a book that is still sadly relevant today called will the vikings ever win the super bowl . I was just saying that because i saw your raiders stadium out there. Milwaukee and in she came to minnesota because they had strong teachers unions. She taught second grade until she was 70 years old. I stand on the shoulders of immigrants. My grandparents on my moms side were immigrants. When my grandpa came through ellis island he was told they have a quota on swiss immigrants. He went to canada for one week and then he came through to michigan and then wisconsin and he lived as an unregistered alien for most of his life. When he finally registered come he decided to apply for citizenship and then they found out what he did. They said it was ok. I still have that photo of him getting citizenship right before we went into world war ii with a little bowtie on. Inc. Of what would happen to him today with this administration. That is what drives me to pass immigration comprehensive Immigration Reform. Before you today as the granddaughter of an iron ore miner, as the daughter of a teacher and a writer and as a candidate for the president of the United States. That is because, and no one knows this better than this great state, because we live in a country of shared dreams. No matter where you come from, or who you know, or the color of your skin, or where you were or who you love come you can make it in the United States of america. During that impeachment trial, which did not turn out as i thought it should because a lot of people were not courageous, during that impeachment trial i had a lot of time to think and i thought about this president. How he puts in his private interests before those of the Public Interest every day. Beforetisan interests this country. And i thought about that patriot, Franklin Delano roosevelt. When he died, they put his body on a train. To train went from georgia washington, d. C. And people would spontaneously stand on the railroadracks to show their respects. The story goes that one man was stopping by the railroad tracks. A regular guy. And a reporter says to him sir, do you mind me asking if you know the president . No, i did not know the president , but he knew me. But he knew me. That is what is missing with this president. He cannot put himself in the shoes of the people of nevada. Other hardworking people of the culinary workers. Of our ranchers. Of the people that work every day to help their family get by. He cannot do that because he puts himself first. I promise that i will restore the sacred trust between the president and the people of this country. Because if you are having trouble figuring out how you are going to stretch your paycheck to pay or your rent or mortgage, i know you and i will fight for you. Figure out if you are going to pay for your childcare for your kid or your longterm care for your parents, i know you and i will fight for you. And if you cannot figure out if you are going to fill your prescription for insulin or your refrigerator with food, i know you and i will fight for you. This campaign is like no other. This is our nations moment. And we cannot afford to shut people out, Nevada Democrats. We have to bring people with us. That is what i do. I have won every race, every place, every time. All the way down to fourth grade. A lot of people boast in this and i thought i would. I have one thing in the rural districts. I have one bank Michele Bachmanns district i have won Michele Bachmanns district every time. I am not the tallest person. I and the only candidate that is truly 54 on this stage. I do not have the loudest voice. Is grit. I do have the grit of getting through a minnesota blizzard to make an announcement speech. The grit of not having a perfect life and growing up with a dad that struggled with alcoholism. A daughter having born and not knowing if she would live or die and getting kicked out of the hospital. And passing a law for our country that every mom and child have a guaranteed stay in the hospital. I have grit. I hope you will enjoy i hope you will join our campaign. What unites us, and matter where we are right now, will be bigger than how we are divided. That is how we will win and beat donald trump. Thank you, nevada. [cheering and applause] one more time for the 54 senator Amy Klobuchar, everybody. Dies, are we ready to hear from our last candidate of the evening . Ready to hear from the last candidate . Please welcome to the stage, mayor pete mayor buttigieg hello, clark county i am so honored to be with so many nevada leaders and a state that knows there is no such thing as a permanently red state, county, or precinct. And thank you for making sure that we turn this state blue. So honored to be with your governor and thank you for sending two extraordinary senators to washington to make your decisions and represent us well. Your phenomenal congressional delegation. Assembly and women the message you have sent from coast to coast that people can come together and get common sense reforms done at a time when some are wondering if politics has anything to tell them at all. You hear will never be caught treating the presidency as the only office that matters and thank you for making sure that we win up and down the ticket with democrats that share our values. And thank you for the chance to join you tonight with some much on the line just one week out from the Historic Nevada caucuses. I know that people in nevada are taking your responsibility, your humb once, that some o t the scale so seriously. Of theis all in the name image that guides my campaign. An image of a moment that is coming in our future that i want you to visualize inasmuch detail as you can. And that is that the first time the sun comes up over the mountains in the desert of nevada and donald trump is no longer the president of the United States. [cheers and applause] mayor buttigieg we have a responsibility to bring about that day sooner rather than later because we are ready to put the chaos behind us. We are ready to put the corruption behind us. Are you ready to put the tweets behind us . This is our chance. This is our only chance. Mitch mcconnell may have dominated the senate that was the jury last week that we are the jury now and it is up to us. This is our chance and we had better get it right. We had better put forward a nominee that is prepared to go toe to toe with this president in rural, and suburban communities. Wouldnt it be nice if the president who pretends to care for the working people cut taxes for corporations wouldnt you like to see him have to explain his economic policies standing next to a mayor from the industrialized midwest who actually lives in a middleclass neighborhood not a millionaire demanding to move to an economy where one job is enough. Wouldnt you like to see a president who cloaks himself in religion . To competeent has with someone who is ready to assert this country belongs to people of every religion and of no religion equally and someone not afraid to call out fellow believers and insist that god does not belong to a Political Party in the United States of america. Wouldnt you like to see a president who likes to talk tough and thumped his chest and throat himself military parades standing on the debate stage next to a war veteran who will aboutim about what how a traumatic brain injury can be a hell of a lot more serious than bone spurs . What we areis about for and that is where i see a powerful american majority coming together. Diehard our fellow democrats but independents and also what i like to call future former republicans. Some say why would a mayor run for president . You are not even from one of the bigger cities. Decades not accumulated of washington experience. And to that i say that is the point because this is our chance, our only chance to bring new thinking to washington. We cannot go up against the most disruptive president in American History by falling back on the familiar. And if we want to go up against the most divisive president in American History, we have to call everyone to be at our side. We do not have to choose between one course following our heart and one following our head. We do not have to choose between a revolution and fidelity to the status quo. That american majority exists right now. We already have an american majority that is insisting that instead of corporations paying zero on billions of dollars in taxes, we will hold them accountable to pay their fair share, lift up workers, standing with unions and organized labor in this country. We already have an american majority that recognizes that freedom includes freedom from government telling women what to do with their bodies. We already have a powerful american majority that understands that supporting our troops is more than about a bumper sticker. It is about putting an end to endless war and making sure they never get sent into one that could have been avoided. There is a powerful american majority right now demanding that we take action in our time to make this a country where your race has no bearing on your your lifeur wealth, expectancy or your experience with law enforcement. We must make that a reality now. Right now, the American People are ready for meaningful Immigration Reform. [speaking spanish] and the American People already those who educate our next generation and are insisting that the next secretary of education be someone who actually believes in Public Education and who backs up our educators. This is what we believe in as a country. So, we better deliver. And i am meeting voters across this country but even americans not yet old enough to vote who remind us that we cannot wait to get something done. A 10yearold came to one of my events and raised his hand asking about Prescription Drug affordability. Not because he is an emerging but hecare policy buff is wondering about his ability to purchase insulin. That should not be his problem and he cannot wait for us to act and make sure it there is no unaffordable an prescription and the United States of america. A 13yearold who told me that she asked for a kevlar Bulletproof Backpack for christmas. I did not know there was such a thing. She cannot wait for us to take the steps to take sure that the Second Amendment is no longer used as an excuse to do nothing at all when it comes to protecting schools and mosques and concerts from gun violence in this country. The time has come and we cannot wait. A kid who came to one of my events politely pointed out to me that he is planning to be willin the year 2100 and be looking back in judgment at the decisions that we made in 2020 and the effect on what that will have on the climate. They cannot wait for us to act tow in our time to leave lead the world on climate chimes. This is the time and we cannot wait. I believe in the power of the American People to change our too late. Ore it is i believe we are better as a people than this president. And i believe that the presidency itself has a purpose. I am not running for the office because i got it in my head one day that i would like to occupy it. I am asking for your support because i believe the presidency has a purpose and its purpose is not the glorification of the president. It is the empowerment and the unification of the American People to do big things. That is why the office exists and that is why i am asking for your support. This is our chance, our only chance to build an American Experience defined by belonging, by unity, and by boldness. If that sounds like hopeful talk , i believe the time has come to bring hope back into fashion in american politics because you cannot do anything without it. Running for office is an act of hope and that is why they call us hopefuls as we parade in front of you asking for your support. Being part of this party is an expression of hope. These things that i believe our country can do are not the product of my age, theyre the product of my experience. Believe in american unity because i have had the experience of lacing up my boots in the dust of a war zone alongside fellow americans so diverse and different that we had nothing in common besides i believe in american boldness because i have been the mayor of a city that was described as dying a decade ago that picked ourselves up and moved out of the shadows of the empty factories and chose a Better Future or ourselves. I believe in american belonging. I still remember the feeling of an indiana teenager trying to figure out whether he was going to fit. Whether something inside of him that said he was always going to be an outsider. Whether he would ever be able to serve in office or in uniform. Never be accepted. That same teenager grew up and is now standing in front of you, a two term mayor, a veteran, happily married, and asking for your support for the american presidency. [applause] that is why believe in a Better Future. For an american politics defined by boldness, this is our chance. If you are ready for an american future defined by unity, this is our chance. If you are ready for an American Experience defined by belonging, this is our chance. Are you ready to make that a reality . [applause] are you ready to support our values up and down the ticket . Come november to vote blue no matter who . Make history together on saturday and lets go win in november for our values, country, and our future. Thank you clark county. I will see you on the trail. [applause] ng pete tnig ] i hope everyone is having a great time tonight. We got to hear from our 2020 president ial candidates. Stay tuned, we still get to hear from our nevada elected officials. Please stay in the room and we have a lot more going on. We will make sure we hear from the senators and representatives. I would like to not recognize some of our sponsors tonight. Our platinum sponsors id like to thank the Womens Democratic Club of clark county. [applause] bernie 2020. Tom steyer 2020. Pete for america. Friends of andrew yang. Amy for america. Clark county education association. The ibew International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 357. Governor steve sissel lack. Senator Catherine Cortez masto. Senator jacky rosen. Bush. Senator chris the Nevada Senate assembly caucus. Thomas. Anb printing, royal printing, stephen clue back, shelley berkley. Our gold sponsors. Warren for president. Biden for president. Committee to elect the International Brotherhood of teamsters. You have lot of wondered about the guy that has our in throwing introing candidates. He is a filmmaker, writer, comedian. He has toured through the u. S. And europe. I would like to welcome to the stage now our master of ceremonies, mr. Jason harris. Hello, are we still awake out here . There we go. I wrote a lot of jokes for tonight. Then they switch the whole schedule. Now they want me to jokes. Hellis what you call a spot for a comedian. My voice is gone, half of the people are gone, did you enjoy dinner . Did you have a good dinner . That is good. Me and the candidates did not get dinner. We ordered our meal through the shadow app. We expect our entrees to arrive in two or three weeks. Too soon . Thisught the title of event, clark county kickoff to caucus, can we shorten this . Nevada, at least we wont mess up like iowa. Iowa was bad. The bigscreen adaptation of cats was a disaster. Six people in the room everybody. Is fun. This is fun. This is my favorite joke i about dinner. Here actually was a meal for Bernie Sanders earlier. Debbie Wasserman Schultz stole it and give it to Hillary Clinton instead. Did that not happen . Im the bad guy . That,d of not recognizing we have to get behind whoever the candidate turns out to be. If it was bernie, maybe he wouldve won in 2016. That means a few weeks ago, we have watched and give the president ial medal of freedom to larry david instead of Rush Limbaugh. That wouldve been great. Rush limbaugh is a president ial medal of freedom winter. Is david duke not available to receive the award . Giving the president ial medal of freedom to Rush Limbaugh is like naming an Elementary School after jeffrey epstein. Giving the president ial medal of freedom to Rush Limbaugh is like naming a rehab clinic after Rush Limbaugh. Somethingt to name after him, and then the opioid crisis. My stage now, everybody. Republicans are rolling right now. For them is going into impeachy. It was not a great look for anybody. No witnesses. They said there will be no witnesses at this trial. Am i watching the impeachment of a corrupt president or an episode of the first 48 . What is going on here. I will do a few more and we will get out of here. That is what we are going to do. He fights dirty, trump. He cheated a lot during the impeachment. Donald trump cheated so much during the impeachment that after he won the thing, the Houston Astros announced they would retire his number on opening day. Thank you, i will get you one by one. It does not matter. You want to do this gig . We have 700 people ready to listen to you. To 9 30oing to move me after two hours of speeches, great idea. Im having fun, that is what matters. That the bar has got it on the theme. They named some of the drinks after politicians. I went up and asked what is in a Mitch Mcconnell, he said it is basically a moscow mule. Thats a joke, thats right. You should clap for that. Mcconnell and lindsey graham, where it they want to relocate to nevada, did you hear that . They are big fans of legalized prostitution. Nothing to do it sleeping with sex workers. They figure that they will keep whoring themselves out for trump, they might as well get paid by someone other than russia. Even if they couldnt find work as prostitutes they would do well out here financially. I drive up and down the strip, i see jeff dunham has a show about shows, puppetsut are a big draw. Table turn republic on me all of a sudden, what was that . We are going to wrap this up because it is time to move on. Whoever we decide the candidate is, whoever wins, lets get behind that candidate this time, all of us. Otherwise we will have four more the iron fistnder of president vladimir putin, none of us want that, thank you. To thank everyone for coming tonight. I know everybody is kind of like ready to go party. Everybody is looking for the after party. Senator cortez masto, senator rosen have decided that you should have an after party right here and now. We are bringing the band back on to perform again. I want to think a lot of people here tonight that put a lot of work into this. Donna west, our chair. Also our Clark County Democratic Party. The tropicana has been fabulous. Please thank the tropicana and the staff. I would like to think pdq printing for these beautiful programs we have tonight. If you didnt get your souvenir magnet, make sure you see us before you leave. To thank our official photographer for tonight. I like to think american riviera, our band tonight.
