Through some work and some negotiation weve increased the budget of countries other than the u. S. A. , because were paying far more than anybody else and far more even as a percentage of g. D. P. , but weve increased the numbers that other countries have made by 130 billion. It was going down for close to 20 years. If you look at a roller coaster down. That was going on for a long time. You wouldnt have had a nato if you kept going that way. Now we really increased it. Incredible wealth. Happy to have helped. But the secretary has been looking to do that for a long time and i can tell you hes very happy about it. Just generally we are going to have a big couple days. I believe we are going to have a tremendous couple days but very big, very important. We have tremendous spirit as it pertains to nato. Except for perhaps one country. And well be talking to that one country. Well see how that works out. The one country has a couple of points but those points are very devastating to nato. Well find out about that during the next two days. And with that, id like to introduce the secretary general to say a few words. Secretary general thank you very much, mr. President. Good to see you again. We are making real progress. Most importantly on its had a real impact. Since 2016, canada and the european allies have added 130 billion to the defense. This number will increase to 400 billion u. S. Dollars by 2024. This is making nato very stronger. Its responding when the world is changing. Well focus a wide range of other issues including fighting against terrorism, arms control, our relationship with russia, the rise of china, and nato is the most successful alliance in history. Of course, we have been able to change when the role is changing. The fact we are doing more together now than we have done for many decades. So once again, thank you for your leadership and your strong commitment to nato. President trump i love your statement that were able to change when the world is changing. You do have to do that. Your original mission was somewhat different than it is now. Today the world is a lot different than it was back then. But thats a very profound statement. Its a statement that everybody has to understand. Ok. Thank you very much, everybody. [inaudible] President Trump i have no thoughts on it. I have no thoughts on it. I will be meeting with him, yes. Reporter when will that be . President trump i dont have the schedule up here. I have many meetings. I have meetings set up with many Different Countries. Reporter nato saying [inaudible] President Trump who said that . Reporter president macron. President trump and turkey responded by saying he is brain dead. Nato serves a greatest purpose. It got to be unfair for the United States because the United States was paying a disproportionate amount. I heard that president macron said that nato is brain dead. Its very insulting to a lot of different forces, including a man who does a very good job at running nato. It serves a purpose. Nato is becoming much more flexible in terms of what but i was very surprised. Id like to ask you, what do you think, saying nato is brain dead . Reporter thats not the case. Nato is active, nato is agile. Nato is advancing. [inaudible] mr. Stoltenberg for the first time in our history, we have troops in the eastern part of the alliance. You can see u. S. And canada are investing more. We are stepping up against the fight against terrorism. First time addressing the rise of china. These alliances have proven once again to be able to adapt to change. Were responding to a changing world. That is the reason why we are a success. President trump its a tough statement when you make a Statement Like that. Thats a very nasty statement to 28 countries. I think that you have a very high Unemployment Rate in france. France is not doing well economically at all. Theyre starting to tax other peoples products so therefore were going to tax them. Thats taking place right now in technology. Wines andng their everything else. Its a very tough statement to make when you have such difficulty in france. You look at whats happened with the yellow vests or you look at whats going on during certain parts. They had a very rough year. You cant go around making statements like that about nato. Its very disrespectful. Reporter the department of justice Inspector General report that the attorney general disagrees with that conclusion, do you agree with attorney general barr . President trump well, i just dont know. I havent seen it. I purposefully stay out of it. We have a great attorney general. He didnt need this job. He took this job because he wanted to do something great for the country. As you know hes a very , successful man. A Great Company to work when he left. He picked a Great Company to work for. A very successful man. Didnt need the job. Hes doing a great job. I have not seen the report. Perhaps hes read the report. I think he was quoted incorrectly. I do believe that because im hearing the report is very powerful. But im hearing that by reading lots of different things. Not from inside information but outside information. I think all we have to do is wait. Is it going to be released on monday, monday or so. I think we have to read it and we have to see it. But i hear theres a lot of devastating things in that report. But well see what happens. We have a few days to wait. We have been waiting a long time. I do think the big report to wait for is going to be the during ham report. Thats the Durham Report. Thats the one that people are waiting for. Hes highly respected. Hes worked very hard. Hes worked long hours, i can tell you, and gone all over the world. So well see. But the Durham Report is very important. People are really looking forward to. But this is a very important report. The i. G. Report is a very important report. If what i read is correct i read it in your newspaper. If what i read is correct, that would be a little disappointing, but it was just one asset one aspect of the report. Well see what happens. Its coming out in a few days. I hear its devastating. But well soon find out. Yes. Reporter \[inaudible] President Trump well, i think the secretary general has done a great job bringing nato together. Its unfair because the United States is paying 4 and some people could say 4. 3 of the largest g. D. P. There is in the world by far. Because we brought it to a level that nobody thought even possible. So were paying 4 to 4. 3 when germany is paying 1 to 1. 2 . At best 1. 2 of a much smaller g. D. P. Its not fair. Its europe. Its not fair also when you have the European Union im changing that and changing it fairly rapidly. Its not good to take fair of our nato and take advantage on trade. We cant let that happen. So were talking to the European Union and were talking to various countries about nato but were talking to the European Union about trade and they have to shape up. Otherwise, things will get tough. Mr. Stoltenberg we are not america and europe. Meet every day. We discuss actions together. Responding to a wide range of different security challenges. We do that more now than we have done for many, many years. And the reality is \[inaudible] we need fair burden sharing. We are also organizing as an alliance, responding to new challenges in cyber, in space. Space is a new domain for nato. Something that never has been before. There are differences because we are 29 Different Countries from both sides of the atlantic. Different geography. Despite differences, we have always been able to protect each other because we are stronger and safer together. That is the case now. President trump i would say nobody needs nato more than france. You just look back over the last long period of time. Nobody needs nato more than france. And frankly, the one that benefits really the least is the United States. We benefit the least. Were helping europe. Europe unites and they go against a common foe. That may or may not be a foe. Cant tell you that. But there are other foes out there, also, but i think nobody needs it more than france. Thats why i think that when france makes a statement they made about nato, thats a very dangerous statement for them to make. Reporter what will it take for you not to impose those taxes on french products . President trump i am not in love with facebook and twitter although i do well with twitter. I am not necessarily in love with those other companies. But there are companies there are American Companies, i want to tax those companies. They are not going to be taxed by france. So france will put a tax on it was totally out of the blue. He just had the idea. Emmanuel had an idea, lets tax the companies. I wont let people take advantage of American Companies because if people takes advantage of the American Companies its going to be us. Its not going to be france. So were taxing, as you know, were taxing their wines and everything else. We have a very, very big tax put on them. We have a tax going on airbus. And that will be a good thing for boeing. But we are only going to do that if its necessary. We won in the World Trade Organization, we won 7. 5 billion. We never used to win before me because before me the United States was a sucker for all of these different organizations and now they realize, the World Trade Organization realizes that my attitude on them, if they dont treat us fairly, well, ill tell you someday what will happen. And weve been winning a lot of cases at the World Trade Organizations. We virtually, very rarely did we ever win a case. They took advantage of the United States. So thats where it is. We won 7. 5 billion. If france puts a tax on our companies, again, these are companies that are against you know, they were against me, if i read the papers correctly. I dont know why they were against me but they were against me. Theyre supposed to be very powerful. I won. Maybe they are not so powerful. They are American Companies. I dont want france taxing American Companies. If theyre going to be taxed, its going to be the United States will tax them. Ok. Reporter why are you saying now \[inaudible] President Trump because i dont want to complicate it. I won a lot of elections for a lot of people. If you look just over the last few months, two elections in North Carolina i won. I helped the governor of kentucky. The press doesnt write it. They went up 17, 18, 19 points. I lifted him 19 points. In louisiana, i got them into a runoff. After getting them into a runoff, he picked up 14 points because they thought he was going to lose to a popular governor, john bell edwards, good guy, popular governor. He almost won. Lost by less than a point. With the exception of those two races where i had a huge impact because i raised them up almost to victory and they had no chance, with the exception of those two, i won virtually every race that i participated in. But this is a different country. I say often in germany me like obama. The germany, they like obama. The reason is because he gave the ship away. He gave them things i wouldnt do. And i love germany. I love this country. I love a lot of countries, but im representing the u. S. , so they may not like me because im representing us and i represent us strong. President obama did not represent us strong. He gave everything away. And he shouldnt have done that. And thats why were still paying a price for what he did. So ill stay out of the election. You know i was a fan of brexit. I called it the day before. I was opened up turnberry. Many of you were there. I recognize many of you were there. They asked me whether or not brexit would happen i said yes and everybody smiled and they laughed and i said, yes, its going to happen, in my opinion. It was just my opinion. The next day they had the election and i was right. But i stay out of it. I think boris is very capable and i think hell do a good job. Reporter \[inaudible] President Trump i always had a Good Relationship with emmanuel. Sometimes he says things he shouldnt say. I disagree with some of his policies with respect to france but hes got to do what hes got to do. Sometimes i think he does things that are counterproductive for his own country. Reporter would you work with Prime Minister corbin . President trump i am a very easy person to work with. Look at this gentleman. When i came in i was angry at nato, and now i raised 130 billion. And by the way, you are talking annually. You are talking about a tremendous amount of money. Talking about you are talking about numbers that are astronomical. And yet, you still have many delinquent i call them delinquent when they are not paid up in full and then i ask the other question. When they dont pay up in full, what happens to the past year . So lets say germany is at 1 and they stay at 1 and another well, does that mean it disappears for the last five years . Nobody ever asked that question. Not a bad question for you to be asking. Its not like, oh, gee, lets start a brand new year. A lot of countries havent paid and you could make the case they havent paid. Theyre really delinquent for 25, 30 years. And then you add all that up and nato is a very rich system. You know that, right . So, you know, they havent chosen to go that way. When germany is at 1 to 1. 2 and when they dont pay up to the let me tell you, the two is a very low number. It really should be four. It shouldnt be two. It should be four. But thats the way it is. Yeah. Reporter are you concerned with the impeachment inquiry back home . Congress is preparing to impeach you, that it weakens your position as president . President trump i dont think so. I know most of the leaders. Its a hoax. Its a hoax. Its turned out to be a hoax. In its done for purely political gain to see whether or not they can do something in 2020 because otherwise they are going to lose. Its turning out and you see it in your papers that its having an adverse effect. I can tell you districts where i won and then they had an election in between mine, they had an election and other people got in, democrats got in, those districts are leaning very big toward me. Now, i wasnt in the race in 2018, so its not really the same thing. A lot of my voters said they are not going to vote unless trump is actually in the race. Its really having a tremendous impact on and a lot of democrats i hear are very upset. They just got from their district and i hear theyre very upset. The impeachment witchhunt, its just a continuation of the hoax thats been taking place for the last three years and i think you know that. Reporter \[inaudible] President Trump well, i would say this. I think its very unpatriotic for the democrats to put on a performance where they do that. I do. I think its a bad thing for our country. Impeachment wasnt supposed to be used that way. All you have to do is read the transcripts. You will see theres absolutely done wrong. They have legal they had legal scholars looking at the transcripts the other day and they said trump was right. Two calls that were made, two of them, were absolutely perfect calls. I think its bad for our country. Does it cast a cloud . I think it does. The democrats have wasted a lot of time. Were trying to get prescription drugs reduced very substantially. We can do it easily. They dont have any time to do anything. I call them the donothing democrats. They are hurting our country very badly. Reporter are you meeting president erdogan here . President trump very Good Relationship. I met him. I dont know if its on the schedule but if it isnt i would. Reporter \[inaudible] President Trump well, i have to ask the other countries. I have my own views but i wouldnt say it here. Good relationship with turkey. We left their border. We have been on their border long enough. Theyre doing just fine on their border. We kept the oil up. The only people we have over there, we have a few, a small group that are fighting the remnants of isis because they popped up again and we put them down. We defeated the isis caliphate. Nobody thought we could do that. I did it very quickly. I came in and it was virtually 100 . I knocked it down to zero. I knocked it down to zero. But it pops up every once in a while so we have a very small group there. And were were doing it with others, in all fairness. But importantly, we kept the oil. And the oil is what fueled isis. Thats what fueled them. Thats what gave them the strength to do what they did. Of course, we killed albaghdadi and we also killed his second and that was important because he was trying to reform isis. Reporter should the National Health service be on the talks . President trump i never thought about it, honestly. We have enough look, we are going to have a Great Health Care system. Were doing Great Health Care work. We got things really running well. If we get elected, if we take the house, keep the senate, keep the white house, well have phenomenal health care. But right now we made it very good. We have 180 Million People on plans that they absolutely love. Private plans they absolutely love. But in this country, no, they have to work that out for themselves. We have absolutely i dont know where that rumor started. We have absolutely nothing to do with it. We wouldnt want to. If you handed it to us on a silver platter, we want nothing to do with it. Reporter there is talk among lawmakers censuring you instead of impeachment, what do you think about that . President trump unacceptable. I did nothing wrong. I heard about it. Now they want to go to censure because they have no case for impeachment. So they want to go to censure. I dont want it to go to censure. I dont mind being censured if you do something wrong. I did nothing wrong. I had a great conversation. Very respectful conversation with the president , a good person, by the way, with the president of ukraine. It was flawless. People have analyzed it from 15 different ways. It was flawless. You know, there were many people on that line, including the secretary of state. And one person, two people had a complaint, and you take a look at those two people and you tell me, but many people. Theres always a lot of people. When you speak to a head of state, not only our people, they had many people also. Many people, probably. Now, i wouldnt be happy with that at all. To me its unacceptable. I did nothing wrong. You dont censure somebody when they did nothing wrong. They are in search of a crime. Thats what they are. Theyre what they call an investigation in search of a crime. There was no not only was there not a crime, not even a word that should be used, i had a very, very good conversation with the head of ukraine. And by the way, yesterday, he came out, again, and reaffirmed again that we had a very, very respectful, good conversation that President Trump did nothing wrong. He doesnt even really understand whats going on over here. They look at us, is this country crazy . The democrats have gone nuts. Theyre crazy. Its very bad for our country. Reporter \[inaudible] do you see a divide between President Trump no. I see france breaking off. I see him. He needs protection more than anybody. Hes breaking off. I am a little surprised about that. Reporter \[inaudible] member of nato and when will you bring sanctions against it President Trump your first part. Reporter turkey, when do you bring sanctions against them for buying russian missiles . President trump its a country we had a Good Relationship with. We had a deal that they were critical and now they said it works. I read a story, that deal trump said with turkey i dont want to be policing a border thats been fought over for 2,000 years. I want to get out but give them the oil. No. I think as far as im concerned, i like turkey. And i get along very well with the president. And i would hope hes a very good member of nato or will be. Well see what will happen in the future. Of mr. Stoltenberg if turkey is an important only ally that borders is that part of the world, and turkey has been enormously important in our joint efforts to fight isis, we have been able to do great to defeat isis. All the territories that isis controlled a few months ago and eight Million People under isis control. And we have done that. \[inaudible] in the fight against isis, turkey has played a key role. Many allies expressed their concern about turkey going into syria. \[indiscernible] we have seen that turkey has stalled military operations in Northern Syria and has been a significant reduction in rise. There is a political solution. [indiscernible] there are no differences. Dating back to the crisis all the way to the iraq war in 2003. 29 allies have been used for many different things. The end is strengthening. We have proven again and again, protect each other. Thats exactly what were doing now. We are doing with north america and europe and canada for many decades. Despite some political differences, we always are able to get around to agree and unite around the core. President trump and i will say this. Three weeks ago when we got albaghdadi, turkey was very helpful. We flew over areas that were controlled by turkey and we said were coming. They were very supportive, actually. We didnt tell them what we were doing, where we were going. Turkey could not have been nicer, could not have been more supportive and thats important. And i want to just say in keeping the oil, isis was trying to, as you know regain control of the oil. We have total control of the oil. And frankly, we had a lot of support from a lot of different people. But right now, the only soldiers we have essentially in that area are the soldiers keeping the oil. So we have the oil. And we can do with the oil what we want. Reporter turkey buying russian missiles President Trump well, they tried to buy ours. The Obama Administration said you cant have them. The Obama Administration said you cant have the patriots. You cant we are not going to sell them to you. They said that a number of times. And then turkey went out and bought the russian missile. So well see what happens. Were still talking about it. But they wanted to buy the patriots. They tried to buy patriots. I think most of you know that and they were shut off from buying the patriots. They were not allowed to buy it so that puts them in a bind also. Mr. Stoltenberg but the russian system was not integrated into the Missile Defense system. They cant Work Together with the rest of the nato system. Of course. I welcome the fact there are talks going on between the United States and turkey to see an alternative for the patriots system. I hope we have deployed \[indiscernible] the deployment of different \[indiscernible] in turkey. So we addressed this issue. And try to find a way to solve it. Trying to solve problems internally. President trump turkey bought billions and billions it was one of the largest orders of f35s, which is the greatest fighter jet in the world, and all theyre going to do now is going to another country whether its russia or china. They dont want to do that. They want to buy the best planes. Theyre making it very difficult for in a way, themselves, but theyre making to difficult in washington for them to buy that plane. They want to buy it. They have a very big order out. They already put up billions of dollars. They have given it to lockheed martin. Reporter \[inaudible] President Trump i am not even talking about it. I am only thinking about the impeachment process is going nowhere. In the history of the Republican Party, there has not been support. We have 1960 in terms of votes in the congress. As far as im concerned, i hear the senate is angry about it, the republican senators are very angry whats going on because they hurt they are hurting our country, the other side. We have tremendous support. Probably the most united that our partys ever been. I just had a 95 approval rating. The highest in the history of the Republican Party. Ronald reagan was 87 . Hes second. The party has never been this united, the Republican Party. The impeachment is going nowhere. It is a waste of time. Theyre wasting their time. And its a disgrace. Reporter \[inaudible] President Trump people that havent read the conversation that i had. You ok back there . What happened . Are you getting into a fistfight . No. I think the Republican Party is more united than theyve ever been. When people read i say, read the transcript. Also what the president of ukraine said. He said numerous times including yesterday, because thats the only thing that really thats it. Then you have people, thirdhand, fourthhand, secondhand. No, we have tremendous support in the Republican Party. There never has been support like this. In fact, i would always complain that the democrats, i think, are lousy politicians with horrible policy. Open borders, sanctuary cities. High taxes. They want to raise their taxes. They always stuck together. I respect that. And the republicans, i always said, have better policy but historically they havent stuck together the same way. There has never been a time where the Republican Party has been more united. This is a witchhunt by the democrats. Its a continuation. Its been going on now for three years. Actually from before the election its been going on. Youll probably see that after the report is released on monday or tuesday. But this is just a witchhunt. Its very bad for our country. I tell you its been very unifying for the republicans. Reporter a point of clarity. In your opening remarks you were you didnt name the country. What country were you talking about . President trump id rather you guess. You are a very good reporter. Id rather you guess. Id probably agree with your assumption. Reporter \[inaudible] President Trump tremendous job and i would say this. If i thought we were going to lose that seat because we shouldnt lose that seat. Its a great state. Its a state that i won overwhelmingly, as you know. We shouldnt lose that state. Then i would sit down and talk to mike, but you can never find anybody that can do a better job as secretary of state. But if we thought we were going to lose that, i would have to talk to mike. Mike if you look at polling, mike would walk away with that seat. If i thought there was a risk to losing that seat, i would say that i would sit down very seriously and talk to mike and find out how he feels about it. He loves what hes doing. Hes doing a great job, as you know. Reporter could i ask you about nato, why is china such an important subject for this nato summit . What threat do they pose . President trump china has become more powerful, much more than the past. They have done it largely with United States money because our past president s have allowed them to steal the cookie cutter and thats ok. I dont begrudge china. Very disappointed in our past president s and leadership. They allowed this to happen. Theres no way it should have happened. By the way, i am doing very well in a deal with china if i want to make it. If i want to make it. Not if they want to make it. Its if i want to make it. And well see what happens. But im doing very well if i want to make a deal. I dont know if i want to make it but youll find out very soon. Well surprise everybody. Mr. Stoltenberg nato has been focused on the soviet union and russia. Its something we are addressing for our security, the rise of china. We have to do that because china is now the second largest defense spender in the world after the United States. A lot of new advanced military systems including new Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles that can reach the reach europe and the United States. And hyper sonic missiles hypersonic missiles. \[indiscernible] its not about moving nato into the South China Sea but develop taking into account the fact that china, we see them in the arctic, africa. We see them investing heavily in european infrastructure. There are challenges. I think its a good thing that europe and north america do that together because together, north america and europe, we are 60 of the world g. D. P. And we are bigger and stronger than any other potential potential President Trump this has become i really think since i joined, since ive came in, we have a very Good Relationship. This used to be a nato one country. They didnt talk about anything else. Really, were talking about all of the world. The world changes. 70 years is a long time. The world has changed a lot. And i dont think, frankly, nato wasnt changing at all and now nato is changing. Its a different nato. Its covering a lot more territory. Its covering hot spots. Its covering things that were never contemplated or thought of. Even five years ago. If you go back five years ago, they wouldnt be thinking of the things were thinking now. I have become a bigger fan of nato because theyve been so flexible. If they werent flexible, i think i would probably be not so happy. But they are very flexible. This gentleman is doing a great job i job. I love germany. Reporter why has north korea continuing its Nuclear Program . President trump i like the confidence in him. He likes him. I like him. We have a Good Relationship. Well see what happens. He likes sending rockets. Thats why i call him rocket man. We have a very Good Relationship. Well see what happens. If they work it out in the meantime, its been a long time. President obama said its the number one problem. It would have been war. Wed be in a war right now if it werent for me. If i werent president , youd be in a war right now in asia and who knows. That brings in a lot of other countries. Reporter \[inaudible] yet, he continues to build his Nuclear Program. President trump you dont know that. Number one, you dont know that. Number two, very importantly, i have met, and in the meantime, we still have peace. We have peace. At least, speaking for myself, i have a good personal relationship and he with me. I am probably the only one he has that kind of relationship with in the world. They call it the hermit kingdom. I know a lot about his hermit kingdom. If you would have listened to president obama, we would be in world war iii right now. Well see what happens. Look. We are more powerful militarily than we ever have been. When i took over the United States military, when i became commander in chief, our military was depleted, our military was in trouble. You know that better than anybody. We had old planes. We didnt have ammunition. Now we have the most powerful military we ever had and were by far the most powerful country in the world and hopefully we dont have to use it. But if we do well use it. If we have to well do it. My relationship with kim jung unis really good but that kim jong un is really good. But that doesnt mean he wont abide by agreement we had. You have to look at the First Agreement that we signed. It said, he will denuclearize. Thats what it said. I hope he lives up to the agreement, but were going to find out. Now, in the meantime, were working with south korea because its burdensharing, and were spending a tremendous amount of money to protect south korea and we think its fair they pay substantially more. Last year i asked them to pay more and they agreed. Nobody knows this. Ill say it now i think for the first time. They agreed to pay approximately 500 million a year more for protection. Thats 500 million. Now, we only had a month or two before the budget ended and they said no, no, no. They are very Good Business people. You see how they do on trade. But they agreed to pay almost 500 million a year more. That got them up to 1 billion. Close to 1 billion. Thats a lot of money. I did that with a number of phone calls and a meeting. Now were negotiating for them to pay more because the United States is paying a lot of money to protect south korea. And we think its fair they pay up and pay more. We have a very Good Relationship but we think its fair they pay more. I am not sure if anybody knows. Did you know about the 500 million that they agreed to pay more . Reporter can you tell us more about it . President trump yeah, i met with them six, seven months ago, maybe a little bit longer than that. And i said, youre not paying enough. Its not fair. They were paying less than 500 million a year. And it costs us billions. And i said, its not fair. We do a great job. We have 32,000 soldiers there. It costs us many times what youre paying and you have to pay up. They said, again, in a very good way, very fine negotiation, and they were very close to being at the end of their budget and we agreed to 500 million more. Almost. Around 500 million. And that got them up to close to 1 billion from 500 million. They were less than 500 million, which has been that number for many, many years, decades. I got 500 million more a year. So 500 million a year is a lot of money. Still substantially less than it costs. So now were in negotiation for them to pay more, and they can do that because they are a very rich country. You didnt know about that, did you . Reporter no. President trump i wonder [inaudible] reporter is it in americas interests peninsulaible] korean in the region . President trump i could make arguments both ways. I do think this. I do think if we are going to do it, i think they should burdenshare more fairly. Its not fair for the United States to defend many countries, not only that country, but many countries where we and theyre rich countries. I can tell you this. Five other countries that i had the same conversations with. You know, saudi arabia, we moved more troops there. Theyre paying us billions of dollars, ok. You never heard of that before. Youve never heard of that in your whole life. We moved troops and we pay nothing and people took advantage and the world took advantage of us. But we do. We have a Good Relationship with saudi arabia. They needed help. They were attacked. As you saw, we just moved a contingent of troops. Theyre paying us billions of dollars. And theyre happy to do so. The problem is, nobody ever asked them to do it until i came along. Nobody ever asked. Obama didnt ask. Bush didnt ask. Clinton didnt ask. Nobody asked. They said to me, nobody asked us to do this. I said, i know, king, but im asking. Theyre paying us. They already sent us billions of dollars. Its already in the bank. So and theyre happy to do it. But we never had a president who would ask. Its not right. So and we have many other countries that were doing the same thing, wealthy countries. Now, in some cases the countries dont have money, theyre poor, and theres tremendous problems and things going on that shouldnt be going on and thats a different situation. But we have wealthy countries. Ive asked japan. I said to Prime Minister abe, friend of mine. Shinzo, i said you have to help us out. You are a wealthy nation. We are paying for your military, essentially, you have to help us out. Hes going to do a lot. They are all doing a lot but they were never asked. Reporter do you have a comment [inaudible question] President Trump i think its a you important point, understand. Its a point nobody probably really knows about. I dont talk about it. This is the first time i talked about it publicly. Us south korea is paying almost 500 million more. And now were starting negotiations for billions of dollars. Reporter in recent talks with the king of saudi arabia [indiscernible] reporter did you bring up the khashoggi . Amal President Trump well, we had that conversation. We had it many times. You know their position. You know our position too. Its brought up. You know, i also brought up and ill bring it up right now, the fact that iran is killing perhaps thousands and thousands of people right now as we speak. Thats why they cut off the internet. So they cut off the internet so people cant see whats going on. But thousands of people are being killed in iran right now. And frankly, i dont know how you get in there. I dont know how you do your business, but the press ought to get in there and see whats going on, because the word is that thousands of people are that areled in iran protesting. Youre hearing that, too. Not just small numbers, which are bad. Big numbers, which are really bad, and really big numbers. [inaudible question] reporter is there anything more that you can do, that the United States can do . President trump well, id rather not say right now. But i think its a terrible thing and i think the world has to be watching. But many people are being killed. Youre hearing that too. Many, many people are being killed in iran right now. For protesting. For the mere fact theyre protesting. Its a terrible thing. Reporter [indiscernible] will you do that . President trump youre talking about the woman who had the accident with the young man on the motorcycle . Reporter yes, sir. President trump well, you know, i had his parents up and theyre lovely people and i have spoken to the woman who works for government, who has diplomatic immunity, and were trying to work something out. Reporter trade deal, sir, do you think you can get it by the end of the year, is that your goal . President trump the china trade deal is dependent on one thing, do i want to make it, because were doing well with china right now and we can do even better with a flick of a pen and chinas paying for it. And china has the worst year by far that theyve had in 57 years. So well see what happens. But were doing very well right now. I gave the farmers, as you know, 28 billion, and had a lot left over. I gave them 28 billion over a twoyear period and that the got whole. That was everything that china i gave them from the tariffs that china paid us and so we had billions left over. Reporter so you have no deadline . President trump i have no deadline, no. In some ways i think its better until after the election, if you want to know the truth. I think in some ways its better to wait until after the election. Im not going to say that, i just think that. I just tell you. In some ways, i like the idea of waiting until after the election. For the china deal. But they want to make a deal now. Well see whether or not the deal is going to be right. Its got to be right. Look, china has been ripping off the United States for many, many years. Again, because of leadership, lack of leadership, or it wasnt a bad thing. Their thing. Its like i told you about the military and the kind of money were taking in. You know, every one of these countries these are rich countries we are talking to. They would always say, but nobody has ever asked us to do that, like, therefore, why should we do it now . I said, well, they havent because they were foolish, but i am. And thats where we are. And thats why with saudi arabia, with south korea, with so many other countries, theyre paying a lot of money to the United States that they werent paying. They will be paying a lot more. Thats a big story, right . Thats a big story. I dont know how you can make that a bad one but you can a way, right . [indiscernable question] President Trump i know nothing about the gentleman. Really, jerry corbin, know nothing about him. Question]able President Trump i think nato dialogueways be in with russia. I think you could have a very Good Relationship with russia. Theres anyk problem at all with the secretary general speaking with russia. I think its a very important do. G to mr. Stoltenberg i strongly also believe in the importance of having dialogue with russia. Russia is our biggest neighbor. We will strive to have a better relationship with russia, but we do not make them a vehicle [indiscernible] we have to provide [indiscernible] combined with dialogue. Defense and dialogue, and thats exactly what we are doing. Especially when it comes to arms control. We need to avoid a new arms race. We need to avoid a new cold war. Dangerous, it is expensive. We regret very much that russia violated the treaty which banned all the intermediate range missiles. The good thing is that nato was able to respond in a unified way. We agreed that russia violated the treaty. We all supported the u. S. Decision. Because a treaty will not work if its not respected. North america, europe, the u. S. And the rest of nato allies and the question is, how do we respond . We will respond in a defensive in a coordinated way respond in awill defensive way. We have to make sure that we provide credible deterrence and world lso in a [indiscernible] arms control is something i know the president is very focused on. We would like to see progress in russia. Trol with also in one way, we have to find ways to include china because in the future, china has to be part of the arms control efforts. President trump and i have to say this, russia wants to make a deal on arms control. I terminated the deal because they werent living up to it. It was an obsolete deal anyway. They werent living up to it, but russia wants to make a deal. Recently as like two weeks ago, russia wants to make a deal very much on arms control and nuclear. And thats smart. So do we. We think its a good thing. Well also certainly bring in, as you know, china. We may bring them in later or we may bring them in now. But russia wants to do something badly and so do we. It will be a great thing to do. [indiscernable question] Prince Andrew stepping down from royal duties. President trump who . Reporter Prince Andrew stepping down from royal duties .
