Welcome, Everyone Welcome to south church. Last night, many of us gathered in manchester to support our working families with food and dancing. You may have caught a Bernie Sanders last night on cnn dancing up a storm. It was lots of fun. Absolutely. Is a really important part of our seacoast community. Place, to myrtant family as well. We have come here together to celebrate Christmas Eve for many years. Many of you may not know that this is a site where the first civil unions happened in New Hampshire. [cheers and applause] im proud to say on january 4, 2008, in a celebration called standing on the side of love, samesex couples reunited here in south church by the same legal rights of marriage right here in this place. [cheers and applause] it is fitting that we gather here in this Historic Place in support of love, acceptance, and Bernie Sanders for president. [cheers and applause] this church represents to me in so many others in this community the very same things that Bernie Sanders has fought for consistently for the last 40 years. He has fought for respect and dignity of all people. He has fought for justice, equity and compassion for one another regardless of religion, ethnicity, race, or Sexual Orientation. [cheers and applause] absolutely. Fought for a fair and transparent democratic process where everyone has a voice and a vote. For a World Community with peace, liberty, and justice for all, four respect and understanding that are only a small part of the greater integrated world existence. Right now, our country is dangerously teetering on the edge. Where rules, law, and the rules of basic decency are being violated on a daily basis. Now, as we look ahead, our families, children, and community will face the biggest threat to our existence, Climate Change. A few blocks from here at the bank, banks are flooding with the oncoming tide and the flooding is worsening on the seacoast. New hampshire has 20 super sites and 300 online landfills including superfund dump in greenland and the johns avenue landfill in portsmouth, where threats to our Drinking Water will only worsen with the rising seas and groundwater. But bernie does something really important. He listens to the warnings, to the facts, to the evidence, and provided by scientists like me to him. Bernie has developed the most cumber hands of plan to address Climate Change. We need action now, not in five years, not in 10 years, not in 15. [cheers and applause] mindi right now. We need someone who will fight for the people and for the planet on day one. And this is why we need a Bernie Sanders for president in 2020. [cheers and applause] mindi thank you very much. Have a great night. [cheers and applause] now introducing our local and wonderful field organizer, china. [cheers and applause] china hello, everybody. Let me say it is an honor to be here. For those who dont know, my name is china pots. If you didnt know what already, Bernie Sanders and i have a lot in common. We may not look the same or come from the same background, but fundamentally, we want all the same things. Back in 2016, i was a happygolucky College Student who wanted to make a change. I came across Bernie Sanders message and i decided to volunteer for. Him this was the First Time Ever in my life. Although i was helping out the campaign, i had no idea that three years ago, the things i was fighting for would be more significant to me today. Now lets fastforward to 20. Three years later. Im about 40,000 in debt, after receiving my bfa in acting degree. Some of my friends even have student debt payments as high as half of their paychecks. Before i came to work for Bernie Sanders, thankfully, i was working a minimum wage job with the hopes and dreams of becoming a teacher to save enough money to become an actor and live and move out of my parents home. Throughout this time, i developed really bad anxiety, to the point where it would make me physically sick. I would ask for the advice of my friends and peers, and their response was, it was not covered by their insurance or the copay was too high to get there. As i was healing and getting better, i really started to think about what i wanted to change in my life. I realized it was a bigger problem. The problem was we needed institutional change in this world and it needed to take place. I knew that Bernie Sanders was the one person who agreed with me and saw my problems of not being unachievable, but being achievable. [cheers and applause] china bernie believes i should not be hindered by student debt at the age of 23, or have crippling anxiety from all of the debt and not being able to get the help. Bernie is not just talking about it, he has shown us time and time again that he will not waver when it comes to what we deserve as americans. [cheers and applause] back tond this goes when bernie was my age at 23 years old marching with Martin Luther king. [cheers and applause] i share my bernie story not for me, but to boldly show this country why i knock doors every weekend and why i make calls every night during those phone banks. It is because i believe in an institutional change. Bernie said it is not me, its us. So im urging each and everyone of you to knock those doors with me and make those phone calls. We are less than 80 days away. [cheers and applause] is on fire andd burning needs us to be his firefighters. As aoc said, it is not a movie, it is a movement, so lets get it, knock those doors and make those phone calls. I love you, portsmouth. Thank you so much for having me. Go, bernie. [cheers and applause] please give a warm welcome now to sam tardis. [cheers and applause] sam it is such an honor to be here tonight. Upever thought i would end on a stage talking to so many people, introducing a man that inspired me so much just a few years ago. So, i am about to graduate from unh. [cheers and applause] up in concord. Like a lot of people my age, i decided to leave New Hampshire for college originally. I went down to the university of mississippi, the price was right, the weather was warm. At that time, it was the fall of 2015. And we all know what was going on then, we had a big primary. Not going out to frat parties, no going to football games, and watching a lot of msnbc in my dorm by myself. That was because for the first time in my life, i saw a politician who was actually speaking to me. Speaking to people my age. Talking about the Climate Crisis as a crisis. No one had done that before Bernie Sanders. [cheers and applause] i was so inspired by Bernie Sanders that i was organizing at the university of mississippi, a very conservative campus. I was standing in front of the student union, begging people to talk to me about Climate Change. And i was a little disheartened. I knew the movement we were building, i knew the great work we were doing up in New Hampshire, and i decided it was time to come home. So i came back from New Hampshire and i knew that i needed to be ready to help bernie keep the revolution going. And so here i am. [cheers and applause] sam and here we are. We are a little bit over two months away from what may be the biggest primary election that any of us will ever live through. What isction is about what we think is possible. Bernie sanders says we can solve the Climate Crisis. [cheers and applause] Bernie Sanders says that we can transform our Energy System to 100 renewable energy. [cheers and applause] create 20hat we can million jobs in the process. [cheers and applause] sam he says we can ensure a Just Transition for people in frontline communities, ensuring clean air and water for kids in the bronx and flint, and here on the seacoast. [cheers and applause] sam but perhaps most him pertinently, Bernie Sanders says we can do it in time. This is a crisis. We have until 2030, just 11 years, to reduce global emissions by 50 . Otherwise, according to the u. N. , i dont know if you all we mayhe u. N. , otherwise have a runaway climate catastrophe. Other candidates are running on platforms that say we cant do this. Lower your expectations. And ready to compromise. Dont be mistaken when you hear this language. When a candidate says a Green New Deal is not possible, they are telling you they are not willing to fight for it. [cheers and applause] sam they are telling you that they are willing to compromise on human life. They are telling you that they are willing to compromise on the future of the planet. They are telling you that they are willing to compromise the people and places we love. Bernie sanders knows there is no promising one fires raid rage in california, burning entire communities to the ground. Bernie sanders knows there is no compromising when the midwest continues to flood, displacing families from their farms that have been there for generations. Bernie sanders knows there is no compromising one stronger and stronger hurricanes batter our coast every single year. Bernie sanders is not the compromise candidate. He is the climate candidate. [cheers and applause] sam he has the most comprehensive plan to tackle the Climate Crisis, and thats why im endorsing him. [cheers and applause] and im going to be honest here. It sucks that a Green New Deal will be this expensive. It sucks. I wish it were not that way. But guess what . The government knew in the 1980s and so did exxon that this crisis was coming, and what did exxon do . They didnt do nothing. They bought out politicians. They paid for disinformation campaigns. Every single time you see a natural gas commercial on tv, that is political propaganda. [cheers and applause] sam that is climate denial. And now we have this election coming up. That means we have a choice to make. Are we going to vote for someone who sets the bar low, who is willing to compromise with these crony politicians who dont share the same facts and dont share the same values as us . Or are we going to vote for someone like Bernie Sanders, who has been in this fight with us for decades . This crisis, its a crisis but it is an opportunity. It is an opportunity to choose better something to Something Better than the status quo. It is an opportunity to make a statement to the rest of the country and the rest of the world that New Hampshire chooses people over profit, fact over fiction, and faith over fear. Help us make that statement by voting for Bernie Sanders. [cheers and applause] thanks, sam. I should clarify when sam was honored to introduce someone who inspired him, he was not talking about me. But he does like dodgeball, i think. I am also honored it to be here. What a beautiful town, beautiful day. And im so impressed so many people turned out during the patriots game, no less. They are winning, just an update. I think. I think. Im not positive. Im just guessing. They are most likely winning. Lets talk about somebody who is going to win, so lets keep talking about the patriots. Lets keep a positive. Im here for the same reason you all are and i hear people say this, ive been to a few of these stops. I hear people stand up and say, they preface their questions or whatever they want to say to bernie with i love you. There is always something very genuine about it. And i found myself thinking about it. I love bernie too. He stands upcause for injustices that no other politician seems to be talking about. And he has been doing it his entire career. I grew up in a middleclass actress,y mom was an which for most actors, that means you are unemployed. My dad was a teacher. A philosophy teacher. That is where all the money was. Thats why he got into it. Between a very depressed city of bridgeport and a wealthy town. I saw a lot of imbalance, a lot of inequality. Throughout my life, ive continued to see it and see it in profound forms. Ive spent a lot of time in nicaragua and have seen the effects of corporate greed on people. Ive been thinking a lot about bernie with an actor brain. Actors ask one question here they say and you have heard it in pretentious forms, they say, what is my motivation . And i like to hear politicians answer this question which is, why do you want to be president . It is a very simple question. But you can often see the truth in their answer. Most politicians want to be president or want to be governor or whatever, because there is an element of its cool to be president. You know . There is an element of power and fame and a lot of people covet that. When you see politicians, they are often very polished and classically, when they have been portrayed in movies or whatever, there is a certain type. You see a type. It is somebody who has ambitions for power. When i see bernie, when i hear bernie, the only motivation that i feel is somebody who wants to improve the and Living Conditions of the people. Somebody who wants to fight for us. For everyone. [cheers and applause] justin it is unmistakable. And you are about to hear him speak. You will feel that. Thank you. Tequila requested a thank you. Im so honored to be here with all of you. Im honored to be here with bernie. Im honored to be here in the fight. Because it will be a fight and it will require work on all of our parts, knocking on doors, giving up patriots games, sacrificing, because that is what bernie has been doing his entire career on the behalf of the people who do not have voices, who do not have wealth and power. Hes been standing up for all of you is entire career. Something happened to me the other day, i was walking in new york and i stopped at a do not walk sign. I waited for it to turn and i started walking. A car came out of nowhere and almost hit me. It was a cabdriver and they got mad at me. It was a walk sign and i engaged with the guy. And he was mad. Continued to be met. Im sure we have all had these moments of micro aggressions. Wait a minute, you have done something wrong. I feel like bernie is the guy who is our mouthpiece for the great injustices, the macro injustices, the ones of the fossil fuel industry and wall street. [cheers and applause] justin he is our mouthpiece. Anyone, the media has spun it, the latest narrative is he is too old. I can personally attest to something. I was campaigning for him in 2016 and we were going around, we would have these days where he was shaking hands and meeting people and getting people to get out and vote on knock on doors. It is exhausting. I was in my 30s and i was like, at the end of the day, 6 00, and i was like, i have to go to bed, this is nuts. All of his aides would say bernie at the end of those days would say, lets play some basketball last night, im sure you saw it on cnn, im so glad they showed it on cnn. Ive driven three hours and i was so towered so tired. I got to this event, and stephanie who was helping me out, she said this is a dancing, there is a big dance going on. The last thing i want to do now. I was so tired. 30 20 minutes later, bernie is going bananas on the dance floor. He is tearing it up. Vivacious,hy, he is and hes going to be in the next president of the United States with your help. Im honored, im honored to introduce senator Bernie Sanders, your next president of the United States. [cheers and applause] ,en. Sanders thank you, portmouth you. Sanders thank love you too. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders thank you all for coming out on this beautiful evening. [laughter] thank thers let me band for their music. Let me thank china pots for her remarks, for all that she is doing to protect our environment and fight against Climate Change. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and let me thank sam for his remarks, and let me thank justin long, one of the great actors in america, justin long. [cheers and applause] you know, i wish that i could come before you thatevening and tell you what we need is to tinker around the edges, we need a few modest changes over there and some minor tweaks over there. And we could create the country that we deserve. I wish i could tell you that. But if i did, you would know that i would be lying to you. Severeuntry faces challenges. If we are going to do what has need done, we, together, to have the courage to make a political revolution. Political revolution. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and what that means is not only defeating the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country [cheers and applause] a president who is an embarrassment to everything we stand for, a president who is a pathological liar, who in all likelihood, and i mean this seriously, i dont think he knows the difference between lies and truth. This is a guy who cannot even tell you where his father was born. I mean, it never ends with him. This is a president who is running the most corrupted administration in the modern history of this country, who will soon be impeached, and should be impeached. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders this is a racist, awho is a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe, and a religious bigot. And then is just talking about some of what he is. Help, we are going to win here in New Hampshire. With your health, we are going to win the democratic nomination. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and with your help, we are not only going to defeat donald trump, we are going to beat him badly. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders but i am here tonight to tell you that we have got to do more than defeat donald trump. Im here to tell you that this campaign and our movement is not , butabout defeating trump something very much more. Transforming the United States of america in a very fundamental way. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders it is ultimately and acreating an economy government that works for all of us and not just the 1 . [cheers and applause] and what makes our campaign unique in this political process is that we understand a very profound point. And the reason the message of our campaign is us, not me. Im here to tell you that no president , not Bernie Sanders, or anybody else, no matter how honest and wellintentioned he or she may be, no president can do it alone. Because when it comes to taking on wall street and the Insurance Companies and the Drug Companies in the fossil fuel industry, and the militaryindustrial complex, and the prison industrial complex, no president can do it alone. Movementeed is a mass of millions of people standing up and fighting for a government based on the principles of justice. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and that justice means economic justice, it means racial justice, it means social justice, it means environmental justice. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders one we talk about transforming america, we are prepared together by the millions. To transform our political system, which today is a corrupt political system controlled by billionaires. [cheers and applause] what democracy means to those of us in new england is one person, one vote. It does not mean billionaires buying elections or just because they are billionaires, they think they can run for president. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders that means overturning this disastrous Citizens UnitedSupreme Court decision. [cheers and applause] means moving to public funding of elections. [cheers and applause] and im very proud to tell you that in this campaign as of tonight, our campaign has received more Campaign Contributions from more americans than any candidate in the history of the United States of america. [cheers and applause] [chanting bernie ] sen. Sanders we dont have a super pac, we dont want a super pac. [cheers and applause] i dont spend my time going to the homes of billionaires and walking out with a few hundred thousand dollars. Our average contribution as of tonight is 18 and im proud of that. So what we are about is democracy. What we are about is ending voter suppression. [cheers and applause] aboutanders what we are is making it easier for people to participate in the political process. [cheers and applause] and what this campaign is about, and we need your help to make it happen, is creating the largest voter turnout in the history of american politics. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders we are going to need your help here in New Hampshire to help us get out the vote, to help us spread the message, to help us go doortodoor and hand out literature and all the other things and campaign. So please stand with us because when we win New Hampshire, weve got a direct aligned to national victory. [cheers and applause] to nationalne victory. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders but our campaign is not just ending a corrupt political system and creating a vibrant democracy of one person, one vote. Our campaign is about ending a rigged economy which today has more income and wealth inequality in america than at any time since the 1920s. It is not acceptable to me, nor is it acceptable to the American People, that we have three individuals in america who now own more wealth than the bottom half of american society. Youve got that . Three people owning more wealth than the bottom 160 million americans. It is not acceptable to me that at a time when the richest 1 owns more wealth than the bottom 92 . Tonight, over half a million americans will be sleeping out on the streets of our country. It is not acceptable to me that when many of you are working two jobs, maybe three jobs, maybe 50, 60 hours a week, 49 of all new income goes to the top 1 . Our job is to create an economy that works for all of us, not just the people on top. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders you know, sometimes we forget that as we speak, we are the wealthiest nation in the history of the world. But most people dont understand that because they are too busy trying to take care of their families, and all the wealth goes to the top 1 . Let me tell you how we are going to win this election and how we will transform america. For a start, we win the election by speaking about the issues that working families in this country care about. Thats how we win it. Working families needs have been ignored, and we are going to address those needs. What does that mean . It means that in america, if you work 40 hours a week, you should not live in poverty. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders four years ago when i came to New Hampshire, i said we should raise the minimum wage to a living wage of 15 an hour. Four years ago, i was told that was a very radical and crazy idea, that it could not be done. You know what . Then, seven states have raised the minimum wage to 15 an hour. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and the United States congress has raised in the minimum wage to 15 an hour in their vote. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and we are going to raise that minimum wage to 15 an hour and every state in this country. Im tired of talking to single moms who are trying to raise kids on 10 an hour, 11 an hour, it cannot be done. And theare going to do, very radical idea, ready for a radical idea . What about equal pay for equal work . [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders sen. Sanders whatg it easier for workers to join said, you know, we have to rethink free Public Education in america. Age inbe in this day and a competitive global age in a competitive global economy, where it is very hard to make it into the middle class unless you i want every kid today who is in the sixth grade, who is a sophomore in high school, to understand that if he or she does their schoolwork, does well in school, regardless of the income of their family, they will be able to get a higher education. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders heres Something Else we are going to do. Against my vote, congress bailed out the crooks on wall street 11 years ago, when trump and his friends gave 1 trillion in tax breaks to the large and large profitable corporations, i think the time is long overdue to cancel all student debt in america. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders now, people say bernie, that is an expensive proposition, making public colleges and universities cant tuition free and canceling student debt. They are right. We will pay for it by a modest tax on wall street speculation. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders but it is not just making public colleges and universities tuition free. The waya revolution in we do education in this country. All right . I mean this is not rocket science. If welove our country, are concerned about the future of our country, we have got to be concerned about the children in our country. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders you know, i understand that children dont devote. But i think it is time we pay almost as much attention to them as to the billionaire class. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders what does that mean . It means that we end the disgrace of having the highest rate of childhood poverty of almost any major country on earth. It means that when mom and dad send their kids to childcare or prek, that they have high quality affordable childcare instead of what they get today. [cheers and applause] because everybody in this room understands that the most important years of intellectual and Emotional Development are zero through four. And those are the children that we have got to focus on and make sure they get a good start in life. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders i just earlier today spoke to some educators, Public School teachers and educators here in New Hampshire. They told me that in your state and it is the same in other states, that there are some teachers that are starting to teach at 28,000 a year. That there are support staff working with the kids who are making 10 an hour. Talk to a woman at talked to a woman at the meeting whose son just graduated from unh who wanted to be a music teacher in school, but instead got a job at the state liquor store because he could make more money doing that. Oklahoma, they reduced the school week to four days. All over the country, teachers are working two or three jobs in order to take care of their families. Teachers are taking money out of their paychecks to buy school supplies. Got to change our national priorities. Times,t need to spend 10 spend more than the 10 countries on the military. We need to make sure we pay our teachers a living wage. [cheers and applause] [chanting bernie ] sen. Sanders the children are our future. And if you love this country, you love our children, you love the people who teach our children, and we are going to make certain that that happens. Now, there is another issue, four years ago, i came to New Hampshire. I keep saying this because this is how change takes place. Nelson mandela, one of my heroes and i know one of your heroes as well, he made a statement which i thought was very profound. Everything is impossible until it is done. Everything is impossible until it is done. You all know what that means . What it means is that today, something can look like an impossible dream. But after it is accomplished, people say yeah, well, big deal, of course. [laughter] sen. Sanders just think, you think about i will give you one or two examples. The role of women in american society. Over 100 years ago, women in america did not have a right to vote. Over 100 years ago, the defining thought, the prevailing wisdom regarding women is we all know womens places in the home, women are supposed to have babies and cook meals, thats what women do, and that is what we all know women do. But to women and their male allies stood up and fought back and said, do not define us as secondclass citizens. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders 30 years ago, if we were in this Beautiful Church and i were to say to you 30 years ago that the day would come when gay marriage would be legal in every state of this country, nobody, nobody in the room would have believed that would be possible. If i were to tell you 30 years ago that in 2008, we would elect the first africanamerican president in the countrys history, you would not have believed that. So what to mandela was saying what mandela was saying is if we stand up to the prevailing wisdom of what is possible and what is not, if we have the courage to think about what justice means and we fight for that justice, there is nothing we cannot accomplish. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and that is what this campaign is about. It is about telling the political establishment, it is about telling the ruling class of this country, it is about telling the media, that we have the courage to think big and not small. And there is no idea that im laying out to you this evening that is in fact not already supported by a majority of the American People. Is the of those ideas right of health care in this country to be understood as a human right, not a privilege. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders in the day is going to come. Words, it will come. It will come sooner rather than later because we together are going to make it happen. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders now, the prevailing wisdom out there that you will see on tv and millions of dollars of ads, bernie is thinking too big. It is too much. Imagine every man, woman, and child having health care as a human right. Imagine no premiums. Nogine no copayments, deductibles, no outofpocket expenses, so radical we cant do it and yet, virtually every other major country on earth has done just that. We can do it. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders let me tell you what medicare for all means. And im proud to have written that damn bill. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders it means you go to any doctor you want, you go to a hospital, any hospital you want, the only difference is you get a new card. It does not say blue cross, blue shield, dozens a united, private Insurance Companies. It says medicare for all. There will be, and under our program, first year, it is a fouryear phase, first year what we do is we expand medicare to cover dental care, hearing aids, eyeglasses. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and home health care. [cheers and applause] and in our first year, we take medicare, the most Popular HealthInsurance Program in the country, and we lower the eligibility age from 65 down to 55. To four to, we go five. Year three, we go to 35. Year four, everybody is in medicare. Thats it. [cheers and applause] now, my critics, who are all over the place, tell us america just loves their private Insurance Companies. Oh, my god. [crowd booing] sen. Sanders they were supposed to love united and blue cross, you dont love them . [crowd booing] and they say, we could just tinker around the edges. Let me tell you what tinkering around the edges means. It means if you are in a private if your employer provides your insurance to you, as a worker making 60,000 a year, Median Income for a working family, you will continue to pay your premiums for and outofpocket and copayments. Thats what you paid your thats the status quo. If you are an employer, on average you pay 14,000 a year. Under medicare for all when we get rid of all premiums and all copayments and all outofpocket expenses, our plan is to have a income exempting the first 29,000 dollars. That means if you are that median family making 60,000 a ofr, you are paying 4 31,000 which is 1200 a year for comprehensive health care. [cheers and applause] 10 ofnders that is what people are now paying. How do we do that . How can we manage to provide health care for all people and have the average family paying substantially less than they are paying today . The answer is pretty obvious. We end of the 100 billion dollars in profits that the Drug Companies and the Insurance Companies made last year. [cheers and applause] we and thes absurdity of americans paying by far the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. In some cases, 10 times more than the people of other countries. [cheers and applause] end andders and we save some 500 billion a year by doing away with the incredible bureaucracy and administrative waste that exists when we have to administer thousands of separate and different plans. It is an administrative nightmare. We have one plan, everybody is in medicare for all. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders now, donald trump is a disaster in so many respects, that we dont have the time to go through them all. [laughter] sen. Sanders and if i did, we would all be depressed when we walked out the door. [laughter] sen. Sanders but there is one area where trump is not just a danger for our country, but is a danger for the entire world. And that is the issue of Climate Change. A situation today where the Scientific Community has come forward recently and said you know what, not only is Climate Change real, not only is it caused by human activity, not only is it already causing massive damage in america and around the world, but the scientists are not are now telling us that they underestimated the severity and the speed in which Climate Change is and will be ravaging the entire planet. We are looking at the very rapid melting of the polarized caps, the warming of the ocean, which means sea level is rising at a very rapid rate. Which will put parts of countries like bangladesh and others in major cities in the United States and around the world underwater. Right now, venice, italy, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, is underwater because of a torrential rainstorm similar to what happened in houston, texas last month. We are looking at more extreme weather disturbances. We are looking at more drought, which will make it harder for among other things, farmers to grow the crops we need. We are looking, according to the united nations, at the migrate at the climate refugees amounting to hundreds of millions of people who have to leave their homeland because they cant grow the food they need or find clean Drinking Water. So we are looking at literally and existential crisis for our country and the world. And the idea that we have a president who considers us all to be this all to be a hoax is beyond belief. Is to tell the fossil fuel industry and this is what we will do when we are in the white house to tell them that their shortterm profits are not more important than the future of our planet. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and im proud, i am proud to tell you that we have introduced the most comprehensive Climate Change proposal ever introduced by any candidate running for federal office. And it is based on the concept of the Green New Deal. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and this is a concept, and by the way, all those things, people say bernie, your proposal is expensive. It is very expensive, although we pay for it. I want you all to think about what the alternative is. How much is too much if we are talking about literally saving this planet for future generations . [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders what our proposal did and on this issue, we worked with great members of Congress Like alexandria a cause or teds and others, in transforming our Energy System away from fossil fuel to Energy Efficiency and sustainable energy. And we are going to do that as rapidly as we possibly can. We are going to be retrofitting older buildings and homes all over this country. We are going to be transforming our Energy System away from fossil fuel. We are going to be investing very, very heavily into Sustainable Energies like wind, solar, geothermal, and other Sustainable Energies. The other thing we understand which makes this problem even more complicated, is that if we did everything right in the United States, it still would not make a profound difference. We have to do it as a planet. So as president , im not going to be telling the world that i think Climate Change is a hoax. Im going to be telling every bloody country on earth, russia and china and india and pakistan and brazil and every other country, that maybe, just maybe, instead of spending one point 8 trillion a year on weapons of destruction, maybe we make that investment against our common enemy which is Climate Change. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders this is, i tell you, the truth is, the more i our about this issue, opponents say we are alarmist. Yeah, i am alarmed. I very alarmed and everybody in this country and this world should be alarmed. Isnt it a wonderful thing that it is the Younger Generation in this country, all over the world, who are counting telling their parents that we have to save this planet . [cheers and applause] sanders when we talk about transforming america, it means transforming a broken and racist criminal justice system. [cheers and applause] and that means int instead of investing more jails and more incarceration, we are going to be investing in jobs and education for our young people, keeping them out of jail. [cheers and applause] it means that we are going to end private prisons and Detention Centers in america. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders it means that we will finally put an end to the socalled war on drugs. [cheers and applause] and that means, that means we will legalize marijuana in every state in this country. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and we will expunge the records of those arrested for possession of marijuana. [cheers and applause] too many lives have been destroyed by this war on drugs, primarily in the africanamerican and latino community. I will tell you Something Else come a radical idea. When you go around states like california or nevada where they legalized marijuana, you see big signs telling you to go by your. Emp in this store a few months ago i was thinking, here you have corporations that we got auct lot of people in jail for doing exactly the same thing these corporations are doing. How crazy is that . What we are going to do, and we have a proposal to do this, is to help those communities that have been hit the hardest by the war on drugs, often the africanamerican community, latino community, and help them create businesses to profit off marijuana when it is legal. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders there is another issue out there that we are going to deal with. Because i, and i know you, are sick and tired of hearing trump and his allies human eyes demonize undocumented immigrants in this country. [cheers and applause] what we are going to do one day one, through executive order, we will undo all of the racist executive orders that trump propagated. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and that means among many other things, that means that on day one, we will provide legal status to the 1. 8 million young people eligible for the daca program. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders it means that we will move aggressively forward towards a comprehensive Immigration Reform and a path towards citizenship. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and under our administration, no federal agent will ever snatch babies away from the arms of their mothers. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and children will not be placed in cages. [cheers and applause] we recognize when that when a mother takes her children 1500 miles from a an area whereor drug cartels are running the communities, living in terrible poverty, that woman and her kids are not criminals. That is what we understand. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and i know that you share with me the horror that we feel almost every week when we turn on the tv and we read the papers and there is another mass shooting. The American People are tired of it. Tired of 40,000 people a year getting killed with guns. I will tell you Something Else. That is terrible unto itself. You know what is equally terrible . My children my grandchildren here in New Hampshire, or in vermont, and kids all over this country, when they go to school now, they are afraid. Their teachers are doing drills to save them in an emergency. How horrible is that . We have kids that instead of going to school, have been trying to learn, they are now scared and parents are scared. To you. My promise done policy in america under our administration will not be written by the nra. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and the very good news, and this is good news, is that all over this country, in rural states like vermont, vermont has had no gun control or so, two a year years ago. In rural states all over america, in urban communities, there is a coming together. Gun owners, nongun owners, there are differences in opinion but by and large, there is a broad consensus of the things that we have to do. We have to have universal background checks. [cheers and applause] we have to end the socalled gun show loophole. [cheers and applause] it. Sanders we have to make impossible for people to legally buy guns, then sell them to criminals. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders and what the American People have come to the conclusion, something i believe over many years, decades, is that assault weapons or semiautomatic weapons are that weof war, and should ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in america. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders our gun policy will listen to the American People, and not a right wing extremist organization. You know, as a member of the United States senate, i am on the senate floor fairly often and ice i hear many conservative colleagues talk about getting government off the backs of the American People, believing in small government. Well, i say to those socalled conservatives, if you believe in getting the government off the backs of the American People, let the women of this country control their own bodies, not the government. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders under our administration, we will codify roe versus wade and my promise to you, my promise to you is, i will never, ever nominate somebody to the u. S. Supreme court who is not 100 proroe v. Wade. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders let me conclude by saying this. We have a president who, for ugly political reasons, is trying to divide our people up based on the color of their skin , where they were born, or their Sexual Orientation or their religion. What our campaign and our administration is about is doing exactly the opposite. It is about bringing people together. Whether they are black or white or latino, asian american, native american, gay, straight, born in the United States, immigrant to the United States, that is what our administration will be about. And what our administration will the 1 in is that this country, and i speak as a u. S. Senator who has some experience in this, i can tell you the 1 has unlimited, unlimited amounts of money and power. They have economic power. Whether jobsed stay in the United States or go abroad. They determine whether corporations deal with Sexual Harassment or do not. They determine whether workers deserve and get decent wages or not. Powerave enormous because they make huge, Campaign Contributions. Attention to Campaign Contributions rather than constituents. I dont underestimate the power of the 1 , the power of wall street, where you have six banks that now have assets equivalent to half of the gdp in america. More than 10 trillion controlled by six tanks. The powerderestimate of the Insurance Companies who charge us the highest prices in the world for health care, or the Drug Companies ripping us off every day. The fossil fuel industry, or the fossil fuel industry, who continues to produce a product that they understand is destroying our planet. I dont underestimate the power of the militaryindustrial complex, where we are now spending more money than the next 10 nations combined, and the primitive defense has never been administered an independent order, not once. Massive corruption going on, never been ordered. I am thed to tell you only candidate running for president who voted against all of trumps defense budgets. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders so i understand, and do not underestimate for one second, the power of the 1 . But this is what i do believe. I believe today, and i have always believed throughout my neverthat real change takes place from the top down. It is always from the bottom on up. [cheers and applause] sen. Sanders that is the history of the Labor Movement in this country. It is the history of the Civil Rights Movement in this country. It is the history of the womens movement, the history of the gayrights movement, of the environmental movement. Change takes place when millions of people stand up, look around them and say, you know what . The status quo is not working. We need real change. And we are at that moment in american history. Where people are looking around us, saying that we have a president of the United States who does not respect the rule of law, does not respect to mock. Eceipt democracy we have massive levels of income and wealth inequality. We are living in a nation with a corrupt political system in which billionaires are able to buy elections. The only major country owner cannot to guarantee health care for all people as a human right. Millions of our young people are graduating Young College deeply in debt. They cant get married or have kids or buy a car or home. We have the highest rate of childhood poverty of almost every major country on earth. To a significant degree in washington, we are denying the reality of the existential crisis facing this planet, which is Climate Change. We have more people in jail than any other country on earth, and an immigration system that is a disaster. In americanment history when we cannot throw up our hands in despair, where we cannot get depressed. This is a moment where we stand up and fight back for justice. [cheers and applause] [crowd chanting] Bernie Bernie sen. Sanders so tonight, tonight, i am here tonight in this beautiful city not only to ask for your help to win the primary in New Hampshire. With your help we stand an excellent chance to do just that. I am not here just to ask for your help to win the democratic nomination, and we stand an excellent chance to do that. I am here not even just ask you to help me defeat the most dangerous president in american history. Tonight, i am here to ask you to stand with me and millions of other people to transform this economy,nd him and an an Energy System and a government that works for all of us, not just wealthy campaign contributors.
