The Washington Post publishing segments from the book. Not qualified to diagnose the president s mental acuity. All i can tell you is normal people who spend any time with donald trump are uncomfortable by what they witness. He stumbles, slurs, gets confused, is easily irritated, and has trouble synthesizing information with regularity. Those who would claim otherwise are lying to themselves or to the country. We havent heard from President Trump via twitter yet. We will hear something later this morning. Secretary, stephanie grisham, has responded to the publication. A workied the book was of fiction the coward did not put their name on it because it is nothing but lies. Real authors reach out to their subjects and get things fact checked. This person is in hiding, making the basic fact of being a real writer impossible. Reporters should have the journalistic integrity to govern the work as what it is, a book affection the book as what it is, a work of fiction. Chad on facebook, vote him out if you think he needs to be fired. These endless the attics of democrats are not going anywhere, put up a good candidate and win. Lets go to our democrats line in granite city, illinois. This is ken, good morning. Caller how are you . Host doing fine. Caller i am sure when the first letter was written to the new , times, i believe it was they believe the Editorial Board wrote the letter. If i wrote the letter, i doubt seriously they would take it seriously. I doubt they have checked out who it is that his writing and do they have an ability to know what is going on. In years to come, we will find out who this person is. This is not published by the New York Times, just further detail, the segments are being published in the Washington Post. This is from the post article, the book is an unsparing study of trump from his morality to adept theual author claims many other current and former Administration Officials share his or her views. The 259page book published by 12, an imprint of Grand Central publishing book group and goes on sale november 19 does not recreate many specific episodes in vivid detail, which of author writes was intentional to protect his or her identity. Lets hear from donald, good morning. I think it is a disgrace you all are even putting this on tv. If he doesnt have his guts to put his name behind it, that is a coward to me. Slandernothing but more coming out of the democrats on the people inside the white trump down. To take host lets hear from todd on the independent line. Trump should be away from office for the ukraine ,ssue, the russian interference all the racist, sexist,. Omophobic comments he has made the main thing, the payoff to stormy daniels, using campaignfinance money, that is highly illegal. Host asking you this morning about the book being published november 19 excerpts, it is called a warning, the article, anonymous reportedly a Top White House staffer. The followup to the New York Times editorial oped piece of last year, the book published by anonymous. Vice president pence was in New Hampshire yesterday filing for the 2020 campaign and took questions from reporters and got a question about the publication of this book. [video clip] most rumors came out a few years ago and i dismissed them then. I never heard any discussion in my tenure about the 25th amendment. And why would i . The record we are celebrating today in New Hampshire, the record we are going to be taking is a testament to president Donald Trumps leadership and his determination to keep the promises he made when he filed four years ago in New Hampshire when he campaigned across the state, when republican said yes to him in that primary and after election day in 2016, every day since. I have to tell you, the very notion of this anonymous who wrote an editorial now is appalling to me. There is someone in our administration that doesnt support this president and his agenda, they should do the honorable thing and resign. Of rumors, i dismissed them several years ago and i am happy to dismiss them without qualification today. Host the book is called a a warning. I am part of the resistance inside the Trump Administration, i work for the president , but likeminded colleagues and i have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his inclinations. Morning. Ood i just dont understand how people dont see the irony in this. Danger. Not the the only thing trump is a danger to is the corruption of crimes. Before he was elected, all the years of him being a billionaire, rubbing shoulders with rich people, popular people, he was around all these people all these people loved him and then he be he decides to become president and 90 of people are against him, why . Because he is going against the corruption of these crimes. Something. Had to do is not a danger to the people the swamp creatures trapped in the bottom of the swamp. That is the reason we elected thisnd i pray people see and follow their heart when they vote. Host cheryl, independent line. Iller that last caller, dont know what his problem is. Donald trump said he would stand on 5th avenue and can shoot people and nothing will happen to him. These people are not revealing themselves because they are scared this man will kill him. The man it is coming out of this mans mouth. He is insane. He needs to be institutionalized. Thank you. Host this is steve next, blacksburg, virginia. The book published in the coming days, november 19. Go ahead. Caller what that last lady just said kind of blew my mind a little bit. This guy is so corrupt, his family is so corrupt, he definitely deserves to be fired. I totally agree with that book. Host are you still there . Caller i am still here. Host are you done . Caller yeah, pretty much. Host appreciate that. 2027488000 for democrats. And7488001 for republicans for independents and others, that is 2027488002. From the book, the author, anonymous. Reportedly a white house staffer senior white house staffer. He or she says i have sat and listened in uncomfortable silence as the president talks about a womans appearance or performance pretty comments on makeup, makes jokes about weight , critiques clothing, questions the toughness of women in his orbit. He uses words like sweetie and honey. Line onpendent our independent line, this is patty. Caller good morning. I am calling because whoever wrote this, it could be a janitor cleaning the toilet. If this is another whistleblower and you know what they really are, they are plants put there by brennan. They are just going against trump, that is all they are going to do. He is the best president we have ever had. Investigatehould david ignatius. He is right in there with them. Can i ask one more thing . Instead of trump every day, why dont you put the question out, biden, people think joe his son, committed a crime . Change the subject. Host betty is next in new orleans on our democrats line. Good morning. I would like to voice my opinion about the anonymous book. Theink what the author said president should be fired, impeached, and jailed, all those three because any republicans who fight for trump is just as bad as trump because they dont want to hear the truth when the truth is sitting in front of their face. People going along with this are people trying to hurt the United States. That aint cool putin. That aint cool this man with all the hair on his head. I cant remember because i had a stroke. If the people dont wake up and get those crooked people out of the white house, this country is going to hell and trump will be the head of it because he is satan himself. There has been question on the publication of a book. This from politico tweets it would be ok to out anonymous . For one thing, the whistleblower followed the rules and took a risk for their country. If the anonymous author was of fed and had a book deal at the time, they likely violated ethics rules and did it for profit. I am not advocating outing anonymous, i prefer for people to not by their book. It if anonymous is a senior level fed, i am hoping they disclose their intellectual property interest in the book to avoid prosecution. Tohear from opal next tennessee on our republican line. Morning, make sure you mute your television and go ahead with your comment. Caller okay. I was calling about the book. Anybody stupid enough to write a book and not sign it does not have much brains. They are afraid to not sign their name because they know it is a bunch of lies. Another thing, that woman that just called, she is stupid and she is probably the one going to upl and all the democrats and s especially peloski chiff. Caller how are you doing . Host doing fine. Caller god bless you for being able to listen to some of these people and maintain a straight face. [laughter] from what i understand about the anonymous author, the reason why the person wanted to remain nymous is because of the remainme why they anonymous because the trump tactic is to attack the messenger. They dont pay no attention to the message. Host getting a little noisy in wilmington, but thanks for weighing in. A similar vein, politico magazine, this is this mornings publication. Who will betray . Trump . Donald trump knows there are traders in his mist, his presidency could traitors in midst, his presidency could depend on keeping them at bay. More dramatically that an impeachment inquiry could be warranted. The Florida Republican was a marked man and made for an unusual suspect, a silver haired business tycoon. He had reliably played the role of a good soldier since easily winning his naples area congressional seat in 2016. He had kept his head down and got about his business as a policymaker and politician. He had muffled his trepidation over the president s behavior, recognizing to cross trump was to commence the extinction of his own political career. Theing privately about president has become a hallowed past time in time. Icancontrolled past withoutad long indulged consequence, certainly his friends noticed. He had grown more animated in private over the past year railing against the improprieties detailed in the mueller report, decrying the trumps family enriching themselves, wondering aloud what the president needed to do before voters would turn on him. Here was no real risk they dismissed it as another member blowing off steam. Rooney was not just complaining anymore, he was talking about eachment and talking not linda in new haven missouri, welcome. Is a legendld trump in his own mind. Anyone who has followed that man, i am 69 years old, he lived in the sewers of new york because the people of new york would never accept him in their social circles. That is why he lies constantly. Nothing is what he appears to be and for people to continue to think he is god amazes me. Host richard in florida on our republican line. What are your thoughts on the publication of this book . Caller good morning. I think it is terrible. Muchnk dirt cells and as dirt you can create on the president is going to is going to sell. The guy stands up great under pressure. , he isusy all day long not a politician, he is a businessman. He is the best president we have had since reagan. Hatest know why everybody this man. Dont have any morals, it seems like. Host this happened yesterday on the 2020 senate race, Jeff Sessions getting back in. Watches bid for old Alabama Senate seat and they write Jeff Sessions announced he was running for his old alabama will earnt hoping he the white houses support despite his sour relationship with the president. They released an ad yesterday. Here is a look. [video clip] Jeff Sessions, i approve this ad. Did i write a tellall book . No. Did i go on cnn and attack the president . Have i said a crossword about our president . Youone time and i will tell why, that would be dishonorable. I was there to serve his agenda, not mine. Second, the president is doing a great job for america and alabama and he has my strong support. Host Jeff Sessions getting into the 2020 race in alabama. Steve in missouri on the independent line. Ry, steve, and caller i would like to tip my hat to you for all you do and having to listen to these people who call in and dont know what they are talking about. Sessions say he was there to serve trumps agenda, not this countrys agenda. Ask the question nobody is talking about. How about pence . His whole cabinet, everybody is in on this. You have all the republicans providing cover for him and i dont understand it, all these people are so misinformed like you had one guy saying trump stands for the constitution and is trying to balance the budget. I dont understand where they are getting their information. This guy is trying to bring down our very democracy. I dont agree with everything with the democrats, i give them that. The worst part is we are going to have a Christmas Present for donald trump and it is going to called impeachment under his Christmas Tree wrapped up in a shiny red bow. On thehe timetable impeachment hearings, we will be covering those on the cspan networks. They begin next wednesday, 10 00 a. M. Eastern on cspan 3. Cspan 2, Marie Yovanovitch will testify. All of our coverages on our website, we have dedicated a special section, the impeachment section. You can find video, statements, testimony so far. The closed door testimony continued yesterday on capitol hill and this is the headline in the wall street journal. The state Department Official now working for Vice President mike pence told an impeachment personrding to a familiar with the matter, jennifer williams, the special advisor for europe and russia arrived at the capital thursday morning and was the first person from the staff to testify. She along with other officials listened to mr. Trumps phone call with volodymyr zelensky. Testimonyseddoor before impeachment investigators, miss william said the Vice President was not involved in any discussions about political inquiries and never brought up investigations. She is a Career Foreign Service officer who served republican and democratic administrations and was the First White House official to appear voluntarily before house panels this week after several colleagues declined the white houses direction. Darrell in new jersey. What are your thoughts on this book that has been covered published by anonymous . Caller good morning. Caller good morning, how are you . Host fine, thank you. Caller i agree with a lot of the callers that have called in notsaid your job, i am envious of, you have to deal with a bunch of people just repeating the same information that has been thrown out to them by fox news. If you were to ask them to have their own thoughts, i guarantee you every word that comes out of their mouth, you could go back and look and listen to sean hannity or tucker. The other thing is he should be fired and whether this guy puts his name on a book or not is insignificant as long as the information is pertinent and accurate. As far as i am concerned, what people are not talking about is now it is coming out putin and for those people who dont know theor been orbain, he is hungarian president , they had conversations that persuaded trump to go against ukraine. I am not going to go into all of that. That will come out soon. I dont understand how people can sit here and ignore the fact this man has lied every time they catch him in something when they talk to him about mcdougall and stormy whatever her name is. He said no. He said it on tv, no. When it got closer, you have to talk to Michael Cohen and then it comes out, i did do it, but so what . People he is totally lying. Host elizabeth next on our republican line in north platte, nebraska. Welcome. Caller good morning. Say the author of the book ought to be ourstigated by the fbi and president is the best we have had in 50 years. He is keeping his word and promises, there is own way only one way to get him out and they have not got the guts to do that. Host some comments on facebook and twitter. Eric says anonymous is a selfless patriot who would never lie about anything for partisan political purposes and if people believe it, of course, it is true. From gives us a text michigan. I personally feel this book does not deserve to be on cspan. If you cant put your name on what you believe, you dont believe it or you have never really seen it. Please and quick while we have ,he time to salvage allies anonymous confirms what everyone knew was going on in the white house. Dayp has been unfit since 1. In washington, d. C. On our independent line. Caller good morning. Say whoever like to wrote this book, i am hopeful they write another book and in the first chapter of that book, there aboutput in how the president was railing on and on about what he did for the military. It just came out i think it went to court and the judge making him give up 2 million he collected from a foundation he took and used the money for his of personal use to take care bills and other things of that nature. Let the callers try to refute that. Host walton in the nations capital, you are talking about the president s foundation. A story on that on the Trump Foundation and the ruling of a judge in new york state, this is the New York Times, trumps misuse of charity cost him 2 million. They say a state judge ordered President Trump to pay 2 million to nonprofit groups on thursday after the president admitted misusing money raised to promote his president ial bid, pay off business debts and purchase a portrait of himself. The damage award brought an end to a protracted legal battle over the foundation. New yorks attorney general filed suit last year accusing mr. Trump and his family of using the foundation of an extension of his businesses and his president ial campaign and the president tweeted late yesterday in a released statement on vat. Here is the president s statement on the settlement. He said i am the only person i know, perhaps the only person in history who can give major money to charity, charge no expense and be attacked by political hacks in new york state, no wonder why we are all leaving, every penny of the 19 million went to great charitable causes with almost no expenses. The new York Attorney general is mischaracterizing the settlement for political purposes. The court rejected the request for statutory penalties. It has been four years of politically motivated harassment then attorney general underwood who is impossible to deal with and now latisse should james, who does not acknowledge we gave 100 of the funds to great charities, but refuses to investigate the Clinton Foundation with all of its problems. All they found was philanthropy and technical violations such as not keeping board minutes and the Trump Foundation donating 2 million to a number of charities the president lists. Your thoughts on this publication of anonymous a warning is the name of the book. It is in excerpts in the Washington Post. 2027488001all and independents and others, that is 2027488002. Lawrence in illinois on our republican line. Caller if i can, i would like to take three points. Of cspan,he rules commenting on the book is irrelevant and my guess is it will not change the lives of anybody else that has called in unless they decide to buy the book and it will cost them whatever the cost of the book is. That is irrelevant. 2 and 3 are combined, i question the relevancy of cspan with the open calls segment. I know i am criticizing cspan. I dont know what the Mission Statement is for open calls because basically it is just people calling in calling each other names. The jerry of like springer show except it is over the phone. I am not sure if there is any relevance to these segments. You have good segments when you have knowledgeable people from Certain Industries whether it is taxation or real estate or Foreign Policy, when you have people that can comment knowledgeably. I dont see the relevancy of open phones unless you just want to have people call in and call each other names. Host to that point, it has been a central part of our mission since our founding to hear from americans, left, right, center to let them hear from Public Policy makers and members of congress and other federal officials so the phones segment with all of its bruises and everything, it has been part of us for many, many years since our founding. I appreciate your input. If you want to read what our Mission Statement is, it is right there. Have a couple other comments, go ahead and make those. Caller the last one was concerning the namecalling. A lot of people criticize trump, i am not a big fan although i might vote for him this time. They criticize trump for being nonpresident ial because he calls people names like sleepy joe and pocahontas. The same people that criticize him are the people who call in this show and other politicians call trump a racist, big it bigot, hitler. For some reason, they criticize trump for not being professional by calling people names like sweetie. It is unprofessional, but i would rather be called sweetie than hitler. It is comical and disgusting what is happening in this country. Host thanks for that. In new york, donald on our independent democrats line. Caller i would like to say welcome home to all living veterans. As far as the book, i have not read the book, i have only heard comments on the book. Donald trump, please believe me, people, wants to be like adolf hitler, he uses a lot of the same terminology. Hitlers said to germany before they rounded up these people and put them in concentration camps, again. Rmany great donald trump, make America Great again. He is more than a crook, he is a deep down criminal. The person who wrote the book wanted to be anonymous because trump has ties to organized crime. God bless america and thank you for having the call in program so people can voice their opinions. Host shirley on the independent line. Caller good morning. I am definitely independent and could care less about being democrat or republican, but i also was an elected official and i know from my own experience that there is nothing in most of these governments except criminality. With junk thated the people dont know what is happening. I think what is happening with rest of the and the Democratic Party is when a new guy comes in, he finds out what he doesnt like and what he does and when he starts removing things he doesnt like, he may remove some of the same people that dont want to be moved. If he would go ahead with his trials with the criminality going on, i think the United States would see much better what is really happening and we dont know about these books, but these people are just making money off of books and everybody is writing a book, i think i will write one. It is getting to be ridiculous what is going on. We are losing. Right here in the city of richmond, the government is stealing money from its real estate taxpayers and they wont do anything. I have written to the newspapers, the fbi, everybody you can think of, nobody will do anything and they know it is happening. Host is the news organization, the times dispatch, are they covering that story . Caller they cut it off. I could send you what i sent to one of the reporters and she was never allowed to write back to me again. She asked me about the story and said what a great story, but she never wrote back to me again. Host i hope somebody follows through. The book is a warning. The author, anonymous, reportedly a white house senior official. Part of the book reads like this. He or she says it is like showing up at the nursing home at daybreak to find your elderly uncle running pants less across the courtyard and cursing loudly about the Cafeteria Food as attendance try to catch him, you are stunned, amused, and embarrassed at the same time although your uncle probably would not do it every single day, his words are not broadcast to the public and he does not have to lead the u. S. Government when he puts his pants on. Why is it that individuals think they know what we, the people dont. We elected this man and if we dont like the way he does things, we will change it. Tennessee, how did anonymous get into the white house. I remember the president saying i only hire the finest and best, your record to date is dismal. In my humble opinion, you serve at the pleasure of the president , resign and pen your version of the screenplay. A nonspecific book by an anonymous individual . Sounds like a money grab. Gina in george on the democrats line. Go ahead, you are on the air. Diane, go to kansas and republican line, welcome. Caller good morning. I would like to offer a rebuttal to anonymous i wish cspan, washington journal would bring on kimberly strawser, a renowned author and publisher and she has written a book called resistance at all costs, how trump haters are breaking america and i would like to see opinion. R and give her host i think she is going to be on the network in the coming weeks. I dont have the specifics, but coverage of her book at a book reading were one of our interviews, i dont have the specifics, but she has been on this network a number of times. Look for that in the coming weeks. Caller thank you very much. Host the New York Times is the place anonymous published the oped last year. This is part of their book , a warning this is their book review. They say it is a tired cliche throw away line, but when you First Encounter it in the new book by anonymous identified as only a senior Trump Administration official, it lands with a thud. Any revealing details have been deliberately withheld to protect this persons identity. It is a question the anonymous author, who wrote an article sout resisting the president misguided impulses might have been anticipated given how much of the book is dedicated to the necessity of character, not to mention conspicuous failures of judgment thus far, you dont even have to take it from me, you can take it from anonymous, many reasonable people voted for trump because they love their country, wanted to shake up the establishment and felt the alternative was worse. I know you because i felt the same way, anonymous now seems to boastsze President Trump about grabbing womens generals might have constituted their own warning, plausible evidence mr. Trump might not transform into the dignified statesman anonymous wanted him to be. Anonymous exists the essay that led directly to the existence of this book was published just a year ago was dead wrong. Nytimes. Com. Clearwater, florida, independent line. Go ahead. Caller yes, sir. I am a Wounded Warrior retired veteran of 27 years in the military. It defies reality that icy americans it is almost like 40 jim jones show about years ago. Many of the people calling in are a member of jim jones. The guy that had all these people ringing the koolaid and sending them to the abyss, this is the same thing with trump supporters. Thisdraft dodger, perpetual liar, these people go to church on sunday and saturday and whatever day it is for their faith that is supposed to be truthful. They sit and listen to this guy grew to tate every single bit of ally and the same thing at every pep rally he goes to. I dont understand it. For the life of me, why . This i get so much credit for nothing. Did i have some problems with president obama . Yes. He was one time married, a dignified man, a respectful human being. When he came into office, we were losing 800,000 jobs a month. When beat he left office, the economy was on an ascension. Look at the analytics today. He beats trump. Go back the last three years of president obamas presidency and you will see a difference. Stop drinking the koolaid. He is going to fall fast. This is why he does not want to why hes tax returns and is leaving new york city and why he took from the very veterans, andblood we dropped in iraq afghanistan. Host President Trump will be in new york this weekend, the first president to lead the veterans day parade. Stephen in michigan, democrats line. Caller i think he should be fired. Think we should not have to worry about trump sending his goons to beat him up or whatever. He is a criminal and Everybody Knows it. Just like the guy just said, they have been drinking the koolaid from a jim jones new york want to be. Nathanas vegas is next, on the republican line. I am truly amazed. I am a trump supporter and drinking the koolaid, but your last two callers, i am a veteran and i dont care how many years you served, you have got it wrong and yes, this guy should nowired and 200 years from when the republic finally does fail, they will look back and say this was the guy that saved us for a while. If he keeps his word, he does what he says he is going to do, backssy in jerusalem to eisenhower. Kennedy, nixon, johnson, reagan, bush, bush, clinton, he finally got it done because he knew it was the right thing to do. This guy is the greatest and we have to get him reelected and when you go after the king, you better get him. I have met donald trump and i am telling you right now, this guy is pure you need to get something done, he is your guy. Host how did you get a chance to meet him . Caller i used to work for him in new jersey. I used to be a runner on the golf carts when i was a kid. He was a great guy. He would come right up. He will come in and make everybody feel like i am out here with you. You here doing my thing and are doing your thing and i am glad you are working here. Is a just a good guy, he man. He will make crude comments, we all do. Thisof the callers with james jones, business. I am up member of the cult and i tell people every day since i first heard the person use that phrase, god bless them. Democrats, get over it, you lost. Host we will have more Campaign Coverage today, joe biden is in New Hampshire campaigning. We will have that live at 1 00 eastern. Bloomberg reporting over a potential clash of how to handle impeachment. Trump costs top aides clash over impeachment. They say two of Donald Trumps most senior aides, Mick Mulvaney are clashingalone over who should direct the president s response to the house. Sees impeachment as his domain because he views it as a political matter and complained mulvaney is trying to wrest control. Mulvaney expects him to report to his office. Douglas on the independent line in minneapolis. Good morning. Caller good morning. Thanks for taking my call and it is important to have feedforward. S i would say from the public there is nobody more versed than the public in terms of if you are reading and understanding. It is unfathomable people can defend the indefensible. Partisan politics is destroying america when people cannot be honest about what and who donald trump is and what he has proven to be. You have a president who doesnt acknowledge Climate Change, somebody that brags about assaulting women. That should have been enough to disqualify him from being the president. He was not elected, by the way. He was selected to be the president. He is not fit. He does not understand geography. He doesnt understand history. The people that defend him, it would be like defending your child when they have done something wrong. Anka trump is overseas to a trip to morocco and other countries. Diane catching up with her in an interview and rights of ivanka trump echoed the view the house impeachment is an attempt to overturn the 2016 election. In an interview, she parted ways, calling the identity of the impeachment whistleblower not relevant. Good morning. I just wanted to remind everybody about our history in the early days before the revolution. Most of our Founding Fathers underscathing articles anonymous. Though,nk it is sad, that we have a president who is peopleictive that nowadays find it very difficult to speak truth to power and under their own names. In missouri, anita on the independent line, welcome. Caller yes. Commend cspan for having the public call in portion as opposed to a previous caller. You are acting like the Public Square at the time of the Founding Fathers. I appreciate it very, very much. Andink President Trump anonymous and other people who have brought things to light are bringing to light that we need new laws and i have 6 of them. Law 1 is any candidate who gets their partys nomination must release their tax return within 125 days of the election. No president may have any first or Second Degree relative employed by the white house or any highlevel position and executive branch department. No federal money may be spent at any entity bearing the president s name or any possession of the president or first or Second Degree relative or trust pertaining to the president. Be sental funds shall on leisure activities, entertainment, etc. Outside of government owned property beyond a maximum of 1 million for five years four years and i would like trump to return the 120. Illion spent by him on golf president or candidate has any political rallies, their campaign is to reimburse the participating entities within 90 days for expenses incurred. President former former representative or president who takes up residence within a United States shall forfeit any future pensions. I am thinking about a law of 7. Something to do with felony and lies. Host let me ask you, have you offered this these ideas, clearly you have written them out. Have you offered these to your member of congress . Caller i wanted to run them by the Public Square first, but, yes, i plan on doing that. Host good. Thanks for calling in with that. We talked about the joe biden event. We are covering President Trump holding an event called black voices for trump. Months after the former new york city mayor said he would not run. He is preparing a bid out of concern the current candidates might not be able to defeat President Trump. Believesor said mike donald trump represents an unprecedented threat to our nation. Mike is increasingly concerned the current field of candidates is not wellpositioned to do that. He also said mr. Bloomberg was making preparations to appear on alabamas primary ballot, the today filing deadline is and alabama holds contests on super tuesday. Philip is next in South Carolina on the democrats line. Philip in clinton, South Carolina, make sure you turn down your television. Go ahead with your comment. Caller yes. Hows thinking about everybody is talking about all is doing and he is doing nothing. I see nothing he is doing and i abovetrump thinks he is the law. Going back over the last three years, if president obama would have done anything donald trump within 6he last months of his first term, they would have impeached him then. I think President Trump thinks he is better than law. He is a big, spoiled kid and if he doesnt have his way, he will get rid of you or fire you. Host republican line. Caller hi. , anonymous, i am looking forward to reading it. Has put out a lot of information as well that has helped the American People. Trump is doing well with the economy. Obama heated something called fast and furious and the whistleblower that came out about giving guns across the border that may have actually been in this killing with these know. Once the whistle blower came out, it happened. President obama got different treatment than President Trump. President trump doesnt get enough acknowledgement for the amount of people hes released from other countries. That have been imprisoned. Hes been a very successful businessman. Whether people like it or not. He has the full weight of the United States behind him. And we can see what hes obviously doing with that. We can see how the mexican president automatically puts over 20,000 troops to help with our border and immigration. Host thanks for that, adam. In the next segment well be talking a bit about that, about the drug situation, the drug wars in mexico. Duncan wood is going to join us, and hes the director of the Wilson CentersMexico Institute. Well talk about that deadly ambush earlier this week of citizens there, americans there, and also how the Mexican Government is working with the u. S. To battle the cartels. Later on the program, Maurice Mitchell, national progressoff of the working mans party talks about his role in 2020 and recent endorsement of Elizabeth Warren. Watch book tv every weekend on cspan 2. Washington journal continues. Host duncan wood is with us, the director of the Mexico Institute at the wilson center. Here to talk about the u. S. Efforts and mexican efforts to fight the drug cartels and also this is all a followup to the horrible attack earlier this week in mexico of u. S. Citizens, member of that latterday saints sect that lives there. Can you tell us what this suggests about the power of the cartel still in that area of mexico. Guest yes, thank you. Good morning. In addition to recognizing the tragedy that does play here for the community, the families, etc. , we have to recognize this is a story thats repeated time and time again, week after week in mexico. Very few of the stories receive this kind of coverage. But there are communities across the country that face this kind of threat, this kind of violence and aggression from drug cartels. In that particular part of mexico, in chihuahua, son othera, between the border of the two states, its clear the organized crime groups have the upper hand of the local authorities and the federal government has not been able to deploy sufficient force to dissuade them from engaging in this kind of action. Host this attack happened a couple weeks after the story that didnt make as much news in the United States, a horrific gunfight that happened down there between the cartels and the Mexican Government, the federal forces. Uest yeah, in the city of culican, the heart of the Sinaloa Cartel and the federal government went in and tried to arrest two of el chapeau guzmans sons and detained them but decided to release them after the Sinaloa Cartel having themselves deployed hundreds of people in the streets with weapons took citizens and members of the armed forces hostage and threatened to kill them if those two sons were not released. We have to recognize theres some kind of connection between what happened in culiacan and the broader trend towards the boldness of the cartels which they feel at this point in time that the federal government is not in a strong position. They feel as though they have the upper hand that they can actually deploy more force and of course they can get away with it. Impunity is a very important issue in mexico today. Host you mentioned El Chapo Guzmans sons, after many years and efforts by the United States is in a United States prison but his sons obviously are of age to be a very Strong Influence still in mexico. We didnt solve all the problems by the arrest and imprisonment of el chapo, did we . Guest no. And it raises the bigger question, for the past 12 years the United States and Mexican Governments working together have used what they call the kingpin strategy, trying to take out the upper echelons of drug cartels and organized crime groups in mexico. While it does result in bringing certain individuals to justice, what it doesnt do is lower the levels of violence and certainly doesnt seem to reduce the flow of drugs across the border. So in fact we can make the argument and many people have made the argument, when you take out the capitals, the top levels of organized crime groups, what we get is the hydroeffect, you cut off one head and other heads grow and snap at each other and the fragmentation of a organized crime Group Results in higher levels of violence. Host let me ask you about u. S. Efforts to help mexico and ask you whats known as the Merida Initiative. The initiative is aimed at disrupting organized criminal groups, enhancing mexican Public Security and border and judicial institutions, implement better infrastructure and technology at borders, strengthening mexican communities against organized crime. When did this come into existance . Guest created in 2007, an agreement between president s george w. Bush and Phillip Calderon of mexico. It was groundbreaking, mexico and the United States had never entered into any Security Agreement before and many compared it to norad, the agreement between the United States and canada that this would be the Armed Forces Security agencies working side by side and Building Trust and in fact over the last 12 years thats what weve seen. What is doubtful, though, is whether or not this has actually reduced levels of violence. What would have happened if we hadnt had this kind of cooperation between the two countries . But what we are seeing is that year after year the number of homicides in mexico is growing. Last year we had 36,000 homicides. And this year it looks as though those numbers will be even higher. Host duncan wood is our guest, talking about the fight against mexican drug cartels. 2027488000 is the number for democrats, republicans 27048001 and independents, 2027488002 and we welcome your comments on twitter. Wj and a tweet at cspan also text us. The president tweeted this after the incident, he said this is the time for mexico with the help of the United States to wage war on the drug cartels and to wipe them off the face of the earth. We merely await a call from your great new president. Ow is that received in mexico . Guest language matters. And the fact the president used the word wage war brought a negative reaction in mexico because people began to speculate he was talking about a military intervention and of course that raised enormous suspicions of people across the political spectrum in mexico that the United States would actually intervene. What happened in the end is the president of mexico did call President Trump and they had a conversation. But the president said he doesnt really want the United States help in this issue, that this is a mexican problem and that mexico will take care of it. But i have to say i think that may be a missed opportunity because even though the president s language by using the word war was inflammatory, there is an opening here for rethinking the Merida Initiative and putting more resources into bilateral security corporations and beginning to take a stronger stance across the country on the issue of violence and organized crime. Let me just say one thing here about what is going on in mexico. This president in mexico has created something called the National Guard, a new Police Security force which has a national reach. And it was created with great fanfare earlier on this year and the idea was this would be used to tackle organized crime. Because of pressure from the United States, many of the soldiers in that National Guard are now being used to stop Central American migrants from crossing over the border in southern mexico. We need to see those National Guard troops, those elements need to be used for fighting organized crime across the country. Host whats the best thing the United States can do to help mexico fight cartels. Guest it has to be a multidimensional strategy. The basic principles of the merida principles are sound and we need a greater Intelligence Corporation and transfer of resources for training purposes and we need to see perhaps less pressure on mexico in terms of stopping the flows of Central American migrants. Host lets hear to callers from baldwinville, massachusetts, bob, good morning, on the independent line. Caller good morning. Host youre on the air. Go ahead. Caller all right. I would like to know if theres any way if the Mexican Government cant get these people under control, why dont we just go in and do it anyway . They cant take care of them and they cant fight with them without losing against them, so you know, theyre not going to be able to do anything against us [ host youre calling for the s. To intervene mill sterile militarily . Caller i definitely him. If they cant take care of those people. How many thousands of people die . They have a hundred people a day dying because of these guys and you let them run around, as the man said with impunity. Host how close to the u. S. Border has all of this been happening, including this latest incident . Guest about 800 kilometers from the u. S. Border, about 500 miles, so its a fair distance. And what we do know is that the violence in mexico doesnt cross over the border. Theres a very hard line there and has nothing to do with barriers or border walls but has to do with the fact the Public Security institutions here in the United States work, and organized crime is detered from engaging in such violent acts on this side of the border. Its very i think its very easy to say lets send in the troops from the United States. We have to recognize the United States doesnt exactly have a wonderful record of going out around the world and stopping violence. I think we have to say theres not really an appetite in washington or the rest of the country now for other military interventions regardless whether or not it would work. And certainly if this was to happen, there would be a very, very negative reaction in mexico. And that could jeopardize all kinds of other levels of cooperation on migration, on drugs, and in particular on trade. Host reporting on the time line of that massacre on monday in mexico, the New York Times appeased today, nytimes. Com writes for all the years the drug wars ravaged mexico, the common refrain has often been used to make sense of the unthinkable toll repeated by government officials, members of law enforcement, many mexicans themselves, that the violence mostly claims the lives of criminals of those involved in the ruthless underworld of those who walk the wrong path but the killings here in eastern son othera sonora obliterated that in the wrong way and mexico suffered the deadliest year in two decades, the murders of innocent mothers and children stripped away any pretense the mayhem is largely targeted and therefore contained. Guest there has been this argument from successive Mexican Governments its predominantly the criminals, those engaged in organized crime or connected to them that pay the price. What we do see time and time again, its not the first, but time and time again weve seen that communities, families, minute bystanders have been caught in the crossfire. This case in particular, i think it is very interesting because the liberon family has a long history of actually challenging organized crime groups through social activism and two members of the family of course were murderered in 2009 after a kidnapping. One of the brothers after that became a dedicated activist who is fighting organized crime and raising the issue of peace and justice in the country and in august of this year, he actually made a public denouncement of organized crime groups in the region and that i think is directly connected and does appear to an retaliatory act and im not saying it was deserved by any stretch of the imagination but it does show the Mexican Government appeared to be unable to protect citizens who take a stand. Host lets hear from laguna california, mike on the independent line. Caller good morning, gentlemen. Im a libertarian so my philosophy is not to use the government to try to protect adult boneheads from themselves so id end the drug war which is in my opinion a foolish replay of alcohol prohibition causing all the same social problems, without alcohol prohibition we never would have gotten al capone and without drug prohibition we never would have heard of el chapo so we should restore the American Government to the original standing principles, allow adults to use whatever they want as long as they bear responsibility for it. May i have your comment, please . Guest i would be delighted to respond to that. There is a very active debate in mexico going on now about the legalization of drugs. The Mexican Congress has recently proved legislation legalizing marijuana and there are proposals out there for the legalization of other drugs as well. But of course the legalization of drugs in mexico would just be one very small step towards this. What we really need to see, as you say, is a debate here in the United States about it. Now, i mean, there are many different sides to this argument, however, you know, its true that demand for drugs in the United States is whats driving the violence in mexico, along with lack of rule of law in mexico, the flow of weapons south wards from the u. S. To mexico and of course the flow of money across the border as well. But the Public Health consequences here in the United States, you look at what would happen with widespread legalization or even decriminalization of other kinds of drugs. We have a little experiment going on, of course, in terms of marijuana here in the United States, in many states, but that r or not we can take on to cocaine or heroin or other drug is another question and society is certainly divided on the issue. Host the wall street journal opinion writers criticize American Drug users after the massacre, the cartelization of mexico American Drug users are complicit in the murder and mayhem saying americans should acknowledge that their role and drug habits play in fueling this wanton violence. The council on Foreign Relations report americans spent almost 150 billion in 2016 on cocaine, heroin, meth and marijuana and synthetic opiods like fentanyl. Guest we need to raise that issue time and time again. When somebody takes a trip to vegas or is at a party and theres a line of coke there, you have to think, how did this substance get here to the United States . What are the social costs that were paid by other people, and really do i want to support that kind of activity . And i think thats an issue which isnt raised often enough and we tend to talk about the Public Health consequences without recognizing that cocaine, heroin have a enormous social cost and a cost in terms of violence and lives. Host rafael next, republican line. Caller good morning, good morning. This is a very important conversation, and my question has been, why not criminalize the drug usage, particularly in the hollywood celebrity population which increases the defense for all these drugs coming into the United States. I think we should be blamed for whatever is happening in mexico relations to the marketing that definitely is drugs. Thank you. Guest what youre essentially saying is that there is a huge part of the responsibility for the violence in mexico here in the United States. And that takes it to the principle of coresponsibility or shared responsibility between the two countries. A principle which was enacted in the late 2000s and became the basis in fact for the Merida Initiative that the two countries have been pursuing ever since. The idea is that the United States has to share the responsibility for the problem and therefore needs to be part of the solution. And clearly, questions of reducing illegal drug demand in the United States is part of that. Also trying to control the flow of weapons south to mexico so we stop fueling the violence and working together on Money Laundering or antiMoney Laundering needs football very important part of it. One problem i see right now is that there is a tendency to throw all the blame on mexico. And so your point i think is very, very welcomed. We need to recognize whats happening here in the United States actually does have those costs for mexico. Host you talked about the weapons flow across the border in u. S. From mexico. How is this happening . Guest because the United States is relatively free in terms of its guns laws, what we see is that u. S. Citizens can buy weapons either at stores or gun shows in particular where the restrictions are much less and then they take those across the border and sell them in mexico. Host what sort of quantities are we talking about going across at any one time . Guest of all the weapons seized in mexico, about 80 of them come from the United States and a huge percentage of those, i dont have a exact number but a huge percentage come from gun stores and gun shows within about 50100 miles of the border with mexico. Host this is deborah next up, with duncan wood talking about the drug cartels in mexico, in illinois. Good morning. Caller yes. Hes almost answered all the questions i would have asked about the use of the drugs, america being one of the highest users of the drugs, and if i thank goodness im not a drug user, but if i hadnt seen that family massacred, that story, and i was sniffing cocaine, it would have just shook me to my core how i would be contributing to that and thats what makes us in this country so hypocritical because , you know, were the persons who are supplying the drug cartel with the main to want to sell the drug and now you added the other component to it i wasnt for sure about is were also supplying them with weapons. So one question i could add is what is the relationship of the drug cartels to the people in the city . Because in this country, we talk about our president , about the job and the money aspect. Every person has two sides. They can do some good stuff and do some bad stuff. So only thing we can boast about our president really is the economy, the economy. Because money drives everything, morality and integrity is thrown out the door. Host deborah, well get a response from duncan wood. Thank you. Guest thank you, deborah. Its a terrific question. Let me say how encouraged i am of the people across the political spectrum are recognizing this principle of shared responsibility that the United States does bear part of the blame and therefore the responsibility to fix the problem. Second of all, you mentioned the flow of guns southward. Im actually not a u. S. Citizen so i dont feel as though i have the right to opine on u. S. Gun laws but existing gun control laws, prevent the export of weapons purchased here in the United States across the border into mexico and i think that, you know, the two countries, the two governments need to work more closely together to try to stop that flow. And in terms of your specific question on how do the local people feel . It varies across the country, and what you see is that in the town of culiacan in the heart of the sinaloa where the cartel is based, there is a relationship between the drug cartel and local community and one in which many people in that city actually see them as a beneficial force, as an organization which provides employment and an organization which provides protection for them, an organization which does things that the federal and state governments havent done which is actually to take care of the people. And weve seen it time and again in the economics trade and with Pablo Escobar in colombia who became a hero in many ways and when El Chapo Guzman was arrested in mexico and extradited to the United States, there were many people in the northwest of mexico who saw that as being a great shame, a loss for their because he brought some prosperity to the communities. Host in the financial times, dude webber wrote during his election campaign, mr. Lopez vowed to break from the predecessor stance and passify a country suffering record homicide rates and said he would pull soldiers off the street and scrap Police Forces and replaced them with the National Guard under military command. His selfdescribed hugs, not bullets strategy has also included programs for young people to prevent them from getting in trouble and organized crime, he urged Cartel Members to think of their mothers. Guest i certainly would say lang and words matter and when the president said hugs, not bullets, i think many people in organized crime hear theyll be softer on them but the overall message he sends day after day in his Morning Press Conference is you dont fight violence with violence. I think this is a message which is actually having negative consequences in terms of how organized crime is reacting, how emboldened they in some parts of the country and the belief that eventually the federal government is not willing to stand up to them. Host a couple more calls we go to rick, lincolnville, maine, good morning, independent line. Caller good morning. The thing that drives all this is strictly money. And if you take the money out of it, then, you know, you take he violence out of it. How many billions do we try to prevent drugs coming into the country and if theres no profit we can take the same money and help people who dabbled in drugs, got hooked on drugs, rehabilitate them and eliminate the market which is driving the violence in south of the border, just get rid of the profit and get rid of the problem. Thank you. Host can i ask you, also, has the situation at the boreder in terms of migration, have the cartels prospered from Human Trafficking more so in recent years than others . Guest yes. The point about money is this is a business and organized crime groups, its useful to view them as illicit businesses, of course and the profit motive drives them and when one type of drug, for example, marijuana becomes less profitable, they move to another area. As marijuana profits drop in the United States because of legalization, we saw them move increasingly into heroin and from heroin we see them moving more into fentanyl. Is theyre profit driven but if drugs would cease to be a source of profit they would move to other areas. Weve seen kidnapping, extortion and piracy and as you say, Human Trafficking. And the organized crime groups have been making a huge amount of money over the past couple years by moving Central Americans up through the country and as Central American numbers have begun to drop, announcing the recruiting of mexicans from poor Rural Communities and taking them to the border, the number of mexicans getting to the u. S. Border is actually growing as the Central American numbers are dropping. Host a question for you on twitter referring here to the fast and furious scandal, the gun situation under the obama administration, didnt obama supply them with guns . Guest its interesting this is raised because i had this conversation with a colleague of mine the other day. Fast and furious was a Public Relations nightmare. The principle behind it was actually quite sound. The idea was to let a small number of weapons cross over the border so that you could trace them and find out exactly where they were going, who ended up buying them so that we would know more about the weapons trade but because of the way that it played out in the media, this looked like an absolute disaster. Now i think that we need to know more about the weapons trade. We need to know more about who actually is buying these weapons, how they get across the border. I wouldnt advocate another fast and furious because it was such a Public Relations disaster. Host a border guard died in that situation. Guest absolutely. And the weapons themselves were used in crimes in mexico. So i think it was it was poorly implemented but the logic behind it wasnt bad because we were essentially trying to trace weapon as they move into mexico. Host lets hear from bob from oklahoma on our democrats line. Go ahead. Caller well, hello there. Duncan, im going to pick up where you were mentioning the great diversity of Public Opinion in this country and mexico as well. Its big. Ts bigtime. And leads back to the whole idea of public expression here. Its a wonderful thing on cspan, keeping it. And in terms of responsibility, shared responsibility, thats a wonderful concept, but you have to have accountability with these governments in this regard. And again, just back to the whole idea of diversity. Were a Diverse People on this planet, and i think, you mentioned somebodys mother a while ago. I think mf i i think of my own mother and she said violence is no answer to violence and words matter. And i think a lot of people are waking up to the drug war as a terrible failure. Its no way to deal with these issues. And until we separate cannabis from other more harmful drugs and recognize it as a Natural Resource as well as medicine, were not going to get very far on this whole matter. Thank you, cspan and thank ou, duncan, for your work. Guest its encouraging were having this conversation. In terms of your point about responding to violence with violence, obviously we need to have an integrated strategy and needs to be multidimensional and talk about Crime Prevention and talk about strengthening policing standards and think about the professionalization of police and need to think about the weapons trade, decriminalization of drugs, all these different things. And i think thats whats missing right now both here in the United States and in mexico is a broader social conversation about the ways in which we want to deal with this very, very real problem. We can no longer accept were going to see, you know, 35,000, 36,000 people a year dying in mexico because of the drug trade. Host lets get one more call, denise in san jose, california, independent line. Caller yes, hi. I was wondering about the sex trafficking and Human Trafficking and how that could be stopped and also the National Guard, they said they should pull those off the border but theyve been extremely helpful in protecting the border and maybe they could take a portion of that off but to take them all off has been very helpful to having them there. Guest certainly weve seen mexico has been enormously successful in reducing the flow of Central American migrants up through mexicos southern bored ofer of guatemala to the United States southwest border. They cant deny that. We have to ask the question, if you were a mexican taxpayer and you were looking at this new sort of militarized police force designed and created to protect mexican citizens, how happy would you be that it was being used to stop Central American migrants from crossing over to mexico and then into the United States . I think its not a question of one or the other, i think that we need to troy to provide more assistance to mexico both in the sense of fighting organized crime and in terms of controlling Central America migration. In june this year, mexico faced this threat of an imposition of tariffs by President Trump on mexican imports into the United States. If they didnt do more to help control migration. Mexico decided to go along with request. D states with a they did was negotiate it. Firmly and insist upon host the professor of the working parties and will join us and talk about the recent endorsement of Elizabeth Warren. Host a look at the role of progressives. The National Director of the working Families Party. Tell us about the working Families Party. How were you founded and what is sort of the issues that your group stands for. Guest good to be here. The working Families Party is a National Movement for the many, not the few. So in the same way the traditional political establishment is largely accountable to corporations and the wealthy, were accountable to everyday working people. What we do is that we surface leaders from the ground and build movements locally around them and then we provide them the support so that they can run and win and surge in victory for everyday people. For example, in philadelphia on tuesday, we have a new working Family City Council person, kendra brook, who ran an uncommon campaign and shes a activist, long in philadelphia on issues around Public Schools and issues around foreclosures, for example, and shes now sitting in city council to support her community. Weve been around since the late 1990s and started off in new york and now were in several states and all around the country. Our activists are around every single state in the country and billion a network of grassroots activists in order to advance people focused elections and people focused politics. Host what was the key to her win that the Philadelphia City council raised . Guest sure. Its a recipe that includes identifying an authentic candidate like kendra. Shes the real deal. Shes the type of person that oftentimes isnt in Public Office but should be. And then its about building a movement around her. We built a amazing coalition of grassroots coalitions and labor institutions and activists from the ground up in philadelphia. To support kendra and lift her towards a victory. And now we shift the govern nts. And now shes in office there will be a governing coalition to make sure she can advance big things like a Green New Deal for philadelphia into legislation. Host and youre backing Elizabeth Warren, in the New York Times the group has grown since backing Bernie Sanders four years ago is supporting ms. Warren for the democratic president ial nomination. Why the change this time around . Guest in 2016, i think most people could agree Bernie Sanders built an Amazing Movement that has changed the conversation. For example, were talking about medicare for all and whether or not health care is a right versus a commodity and were trying to figure out how to pay for medicare for all and whether or not we will have medicare for all largely because of the interventions Bernie Sanders made in 2016 and continue to make. Bernie deserves all of our respect and continued respect in managed movement and in 2019 theres a different field, theres dozens of candidates and Elizabeth Warren is building her own unique movement. Shes telling a story in a way that in some ways only a middle School Teacher could tell where shes talking about the issues that fundamentally are around how our nation and politics and democracy got rigged. Who specifically were the culprits . Who did the rigging . How we can unrig it together as a community and create a new transformtive politics and democracy for everybody. And its really exciting and Elizabeth Warren is now topping many polls. Were really pleased that our Component Parts of our party are activists, both are activist based that door knock and petition all across the country as well as our activist based that mainly relate to us online came together and brought Elizabeth Warren over the top. Host Maurice Mitchell the National Director of the working family party talking about progressives in 2020. The group endorsed elizabeth war be. We welcome your phone calls and comments, 2027488000 is the democratic line. Epublicans use 2027488001. 2027488001 for independents and if youre a member of the working family party there is a ine set aside for you, 202848 2027488003. You supported Bernie Sanders the first time and now Elizabeth Warren. But the aim is to have them as the nominee for the Democratic Party and there were issues in the 2016 campaign between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. How confident are you that the door is wide open for a progressive candidate in the Democratic Party to be their nominee in 202017 2020 . Guest were very confident. The way we ensure theres a progressive nominee is also the way we ensure we defeat donald trump by articulating a bold vision that speaks of actual harm that people are experiencing and articulate solutions that rise to the occasion that actually are at the scale of the problem. When we talk about structural change or big change, thats what were talking about, simply talking about actually solving peoples problems and having a democracy and a government that is responsive to the people. And we think that thats a recipe for success with progressives, with independents, with people in red states, blue states and purple states. Host we have a caller on the line and go to new york city and bernard on the republican line. Good morning, youre first up. Caller yes, good morning, cspan. Can i speak to that young gentleman there from the progressive . Host you may. Go ahead, bernard. Caller first of all, its so sad to see young fellow like you so completely and thoroughly brainwashed by a foreign ideology, socialism is not an american ideology. Capitalism is the american ideology, if you study your history. Number one, number two, socialism has never worked. It is a very destructive ideology that enslaves people because what it does, and you should know this, but you dont, that the Democratic Party loyalists almost destroyed the black family by making them dependent, by making them discouraging them from work, breaking up families, aborting black children. You just have the wrong outlook on everything, my young man. Host all right. Bernard, new york, Maurice Mitchell, your thoughts. Guest thank you. Thanks for the commentary, bernard. And im happy you referenced history because im pretty sure the institution of slavery was probably the number one factor in breaking up black families and separating them. And the institution of the modern day jim crow of criminal justice continues to break up black families. And so im happy you brought that up because its an issue that we at the working Families Party takes very seriously. Now to the question youve raised around our Economic System and the question that you raised about people i guess being, quote, unquote, enslaved by an economic 178. Economic system. Most working people right now are not happy with this Economic System. Not just in the United States, all around the world. And theres people, including capitalists who are questioning neoliberal capitalism because bernard, and you might agree, many people feel that the system is rigged, this Economic System is rigged, that something really big needs to happen to transform this Economic System. The capitalism that you talked about, that you pine for, many, many people historically in this country never really benefited from the largess of that capitalism. And now most people, including many white americans who, you know, decades ago had a decent deal and were able to, for example, purchase new homes and other things through many of the policies you might consider socialist, today those folks are now experiencing the brunt of this Economic System and are asking for a solution. You can call that socialism or common sense. Dealing with a boot on your neck and wanting to release that boot and asking for our elected officials and for, you know, for leaders both in business and in government for a solution. And folks have not been getting any solution. This is not a left problem, this is not a right problem, this is a human problem. The Economic System is not working and its immoral. And i think people standing up to figure out how to transform or reimagine the Economic System are the moral leaders of our day. Host we have time set aside for those who are members of the working Families Party, 2027488003. We go to Oklahoma City and joey, good morning. Caller hi and thank you for fighting for the causes that you do. Youre 100 on target. I would like to say to the previous caller that if it wasnt for the Democratic Party working to lift the safety nets for the black community who is ravaged by slavery and in a quasislavery after they supposedly got their rights. Youre wrong about that. As far as socialism which he also brought up, if you dont like socialism, get rid of your u. S. Postal service, the national highways and your local buyer employees. Those are socialism coninstructs we pay in and get a Better Service from the government just like the health care we need. But my main point was im really disappointed in you guys supporting warren. If youll go watch her tyt interview and her interview with Chris Matthews after the second debate, i believe, she said if shes nominated, shes going to take the p. A. C. Money. You know what pac money is, its bribe money, obama took it, biden is taking it, buttigieg is taking it, 50 years, Bernie Sanders never took their money. He will work for us, i hope you reconsider who you support. Host thats joey in Oklahoma City. Maurice mitchell . Guest again, like i said before, in 2016 we endorsed Bernie Sanders. The reason we endorsed Bernie Sanders and i consider myself a Bernie Sanders supporter today, is the track record you talked about and the movement that he built. And supporters of Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders should have respect and really thank bernie for the work that these done on all of those issues and pivoting to Elizabeth Warren, you know, so my understanding is that Elizabeth Warren has been pretty clear around the fact that throughout this entire Campaign Including the general election, shell not take a dollar of pac or corporate money. Host that caller, Maurice Mitchell, joey from Oklahoma City, a member of the working Families Party, the denver post reporting the endorsement in that area, colorado endorsement for Bernie Sanders shows the working party split with the national group. To be clear, though, your organization is not a Political Party, youre a coalition of groups, correct . Eventually youll support the democratic nominee . Guest let me correct you there. So we are a Political Party and we have Ballot Access in states like new york, connecticut, oregon, and South Carolina. Where there is fusion voting. And where we dont, we show up like a Political Party because all a party really is, its not a legal or physical destination but people coming together to engage in electoral work to increase the world view. To answer the other question, like a Political Party, there are people like any Political Party, there are people in the party that have very strong views in many different areas. Theres strong bernie supporters and strong Elizabeth Warren supporters who duked it out in our progress and how we arrived at the endorsement of Elizabeth Warren. So were a real Political Party with real internal democracy and grassroots activists that are leaders in their own right that have very, very wellinformed opinions and what makes our party up. So the fact that some folks in colorado had a different opinion than in folks in new york or West Virginia demonstrate the fact were a real and very vibrant party around the country. Ut absolutely host finish your thought. Guest but absolutely our intention to defeat donald trump, right . The way we think we do it is by endorsing a structural change candidate that is speaking to the issues of everyday working people. And we think that theres clearly two candidates that are doing that, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Weve endorsed Elizabeth Warren and couldnt be more excited about the way that shes carrying on her campaign and engaging in that conversation. Host just briefly, too, you mentioned kendra brooks, the winner in the philadelphia race, a member of the working Families Party, is the organization, is your party trying to get folks up ballot on that on the state legislative races in 2020 and the congressional races in 2020 . Guest sure. We endorse more than 1,000 candidates every cycle. And absolutely, our bread and butter, weve been talk a lot about president ial candidates and politics, our bread and butter is municipal and state races. Were going to be involved in a number of them. And absolutely, you mentioned kendras race in the state of pennsylvania, were going to double down. Kendra run by 55,000 votes. Last cycle, donald trump won the state of pennsylvania by 40,000 votes. If we keep that coalition together and build that momentum through november 2020, we think we have an opportunity to steal victory from donald trump as he tries to run through pennsylvania to gain a victory and the coalition kendra built in a nondelusional way save our world. Host we hear from connie in hanover, maryland, on our democrats line. Caller thanks for taking my call. Just to follow up on the previous caller, my concern is that the working Families Party s process is a little bit disingenuous. Members t there were that voted for bernie and then sort of the insider leadership eam pushed warren through. Also, my understanding is that Elizabeth Warrens daughter, through her foundation, donated about 50,000 to the working Families Party which may have had some impact. So the concern is although its nothing close to some of the rigging that was done at the d. N. C. And clearly nothing thats been done on the republican side of things. , i that kind of process think, makes people feel like, you know, its just an achey feeling. Host well get a response. Guest thank for you the question. I really appreciate that. To answer the first question first, so our process was a month long process that included many of the parts of our party. So were a Grassroots Party made up of grassroots activists that are deeply connected and believe in the party. On the local level it includes labor institutions and peoples organizations that engage in their own internal democracy. And they wrestled with this question as well on the local level and then ultimately decided state by state whether or not they were going to support Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders or some of the other candidates we went through our process. So you know, you characterize these people as being insiders. These are grassroots activists were very proud of to be part of our memberships. And in Many Organizations thats who you call your memberships. Those folks recognize that were in a time where activism doesnt just happen in places, activism happens online. We ensured a full 50 of our vote will be represented by our activists connected to us online. Those are the people i think you are characterizing as being the members, right . Both those people are members. Those are different components of our vote. And we believe they are equal components. So we wrestled over months of really rigorous debate and internal democracy and ultimately those two halves came together as a whole vote and the two Component Parts of the vote are equal in every way and separating them would make them not equal and why its one vote, one party. I appreciate the question. The second one, i have to respond to this because this is actually a Conspiracy Theory that came from sort of the sort of reaches of the internet and if you actually, like, really break down any of that, any of what you said around the money and the it just doesnt make any sense and its not very logical. The 45,000 youre talking about, that was a grant made to the working Families Party so we could do important work to take money out of politics, for example election in d. C. And automatic Voter Registration in new jersey. And the person who ensured that happened in new jersey and pushed this through the legislature is Bernie Sanders current political director. And that happened at a time where lids beth warren wasnt running for president and i wasnt National Director of the working Families Party. The time line doesnt make sense or the amount of money doesnt make sense but were proud of that work and the work we continue to do. The legislative and political work in order to vie for people. I appreciate the question and im happy to respond to any questions you might have around our process, around some of these accusations and honestly conspiracy theories. I think its important we clear it up. Its a tense moment in our policy particulars and they should scrutinize us and the process and make sure were dealing with facts because it will get more and more intense through this process and at a certain point it becomes wacky season and its really important we clear things up and make sure we ultimately align on a candidate and have a more united and larger progressive movement. Phillip lets hear from william from northwest, massachusetts, on the independent line. Good morning. I just wanted to say i think that the politics i think this country by itself is the greatest country in the world because of values of capitalistic presms and things like this. But in contemp rare history, meaning the last 20 years it will be a fascinating story to look back at that in retrospect nd to see just the comparisons on what the democrats and republicans actually did in this country. And it did polarize and made this country so against each up a that it is opening oor for radical other nation states, hostile nation states to come in and attack us again because we werent on the same page. I mean, a lot of the inspectors generals of this country, the positions arent even filled. Half the positions arent even filled. When trump closed the country down last year, or the beginning of this year for the number of months, i mean, it wasnt affected first day because a lot of the positions arent filled. Host in massachusetts, Maurice Mitchell . Guest thanks for the commentary. And i couldnt agree with you more that both democrats and republicans and the political teabt in general have essentially conspired to rig the system for themselves and for their donors and for corporations and wealthy people. Were at the tail end of a four decade, onesided class war by the ultrawealthy against every people. And thats something people on all sides, everyday people, not just washington insiders and politicians could agree upon. And most people independent democrats, republicans, most working people feel that, feel that in their guts the economy isnt working for them, that their politics arent working for them and one of the reasons why were building the working Families Party, a party that is independent from the interests of organized capital on wall street and speaks directly to the interests of everyday people. Its not so much a left and right conversation as much as its a bottom up conversation. Everyday people, the vast majority of people are not experiencing the top side, the benefit of the economic boom thats been happening. Its been absorbed by the wealthy and everyday people are not experiencing on the municipal level and state level a responsive government. And we the people need to take back our democracy. I think thats something that most people on all sides could agree with and thats what the working Families Party is about. Host let me ask you about state politics in new york, the politico reporting on this, the Governor Andrew Cuomo quietly presses to weaken political nemesis in new york. New york may end fusion voting which has benefited third parties. What is fusion voting and what do you think of the governors move . Guest so sure, pretty simply, fusion voting means if i run for an office, i can be endorsed by multiple parties and can be endorsed by the working family party and im on the general election ballot and people can choose to support me as a working families candidate or democrat and at the end those two tallies come together and make the whole vote. And it allows us as an independent party to be able to show our strength, and for us not to get caught up in the spoiler dilemma that oftentimes happens in the first half of the post sort of elections where if you have a third party candidate, that candidate cant be crossendorsed by other parties. Thats what fusion voting is and how we built power in new york, for example, where we transformed the toll particulars of new york city and then by state. We took on the independent Democratic Caucus, senators who are democrats who are deeply accountable to people like the real estate lobby and we primaried all of them and most of them lost their primaries so we eliminated the independent Democratic Caucus and now the results are very, very progressive criminal Justice Reform and legislature for dreamers and environmental reforms and i could go on and on. Him just over one cycle. The question around the governor of new york, we primaried his friend in the independent Democratic Caucus, the i. D. C. , and also primaries him, we challenged him during the general election and he wasnt pleased with that. This is nothing more than political institutions, the governor overreaching and using the democratic process in order to settle the score against the independent movement. We think its wrong. We also know its unconstitutional. Fusion voting is protected by the constitution and ultimately we think these efforts will fail but think it exposes something worse, the rotten corruption that has just kind of been abided by over decade in albany and theres a day of reckoning thats coming for the rotten corruption as Grassroots Movement and like our own begin to rise up, our activists take office and state slegget you are and demand a different type the democrats line, mount airy, maryland. Questions, ave two why hasnt the working Families Party released the voting totals for the endorsement . You know by the working people in the leadership. And the second question is why is your endorsement broken down that way, were leader gets 50 and membership gets 50 , isnt that a superdelegate system . Why not have membership be 100 of the endorsement . Guest im so happy you asked that question, i dont know if you are listening to the previous caller, but i do want to explain this. Question, theate people who are delegates on our National Committee our everyday working people who work tirelessly with no pay in order to help the working family party. These are not superdelegates, these are people who, in their community, engage in their own internal democracy and deliver the sense of their state party to the working Families Party. These are people these are ,ot people who are major donors or corporate lackeys, or political hacks. These are the kind of people that we are proud of, that everyone should be proud of, that are taking their time and energy in order to build a Grassroots Movement. And the people you talked about online, those are also our members. We look at all of these people as members. We are not talking about a handful of elected talkingegates, we are medical but people that represents thousands of people around the country having internal conversations over months with those people and arriving at a democratic decision that ultimately achieves the vote that we have. And we are proud of it. Im really happy that we are able to open up this line so we can have these conversations. Scrutiny isnt that factbased. Host lets get a brief call from wanda, in chico, california, on the republican line. Caller i want to correct all of these socialized former citizens of academia who say that infrastructures part of socialism, which is it is not. Because infrastructure, like the post office etc. Is in the u. S. Constitution. Welfare is not in the u. S. Constitution. And if you took all of the billionaires money in the whole United States, that would not even pay off the national debt, and it would bankrupt the country because nobody would be paying any taxes after that. Host any final thoughts on her comments or any comments more broadly . Guest i appreciate her comment, areuld say that most people unhappy with this economy and this Economic System. Most people are looking for a transformation. If we do not transform our economic and political system, theres a day of reckoning for us. Mate changes science change is a science. We know on the consensus of scientific opinion that if we do to do something dramatic roll down the fossil fuel economy and find a Just Transition for those workers, and become Carbon Neutral is a country in the world, than the prospects for people, especially everyday working people, or bleak. R bleak are bleak. System a just economic for everyone and im excited to work with that caller and everyone. Host Maurice Mitchell is joining us from new york this morning. Thank you for being a part of the conversation. Guest its good to be here. Host next up, a Political Force on the right joins us, club for growth is positioning itself as a player in the upcoming election and the battle for impeachment on capitol hill. Its president s former congressman David Mcintosh will join us after the break. Watch the cspan network live next week as the House Intelligence Committee holds their first public impeachment hearings. The Committee Led by chairman adam schiff will hear from three state Department Officials, top u. S. Diplomats in ukraine, william tail year William Taylor and george kent will testify. And on friday at 11 00 on cspan2, the former u. S. Ambassador to the ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch will appear. Following the inquiry, live on the cspan networks, or listen live with the free cspan radio app. Washington journal mugs are available on cspans new online store. Go to cspan store. Org and check at the washington journal mugs and see all of the cspan products. Washington journal continues. Host we are joined by former congressman and now president of the club for growth, David Mcintosh, to talk about campaign 2020. And his groups involvement in the campaign and looking at the impeachment process on capitol hill. Remind us, David Mcintosh, what the club for growth stands for. Guest thank you, its great to be with you. Club for growth is a group that andommitted to free markets limited government. We have a Political Action committee where hundreds of thousands of our members support candidates, usually with smaller contributions, and we diligently select candidates that we think will be champions in the house and the senate for those principles of limited government and free market. We also have a super pac that gets engage. Last cycle we raised and spent about 15 million towards that effort. As you know, its the blue wave and the republicans lost the house. I am proud to say that we won 85 of our races that fall because we had great candidates and we have got to be very engaged in the political process. Host a headline says that club for growth takes aim at vulnerable House Democrats and impeachment ads, i wanted to ask you for your quick take on what you saw coming out of the mainly state elections on tuesday and the 2019 races and the couple of governors races. Guest in virginia you saw the continued movement of virginia from a purple state to a blue state. The democrats took control of both houses, although with narrow margins. The thing that we noticed inside of that was the republicans who t were the republicans who in the rhetoric they are called rhinos, but essentially they are republicans moved away from Core Principles of Less Government, and they tried to be all things to all people. What happened is the voter said if youre going to act like a democrat we will get a real democrat and let them govern. Republicans that stay true to those conservative principles like nick who handily read you handily won his district stays true to those principles. Kentucky was a real disappointment. The governors race. When you look beneath it, republicans won handily on all of the other stateline races. I think that was more a referendum on him and his style of governing then it was on the party or conservatives. I think hes done a great job, so i regretted the loss. But i think thats what the voters were choosing. Host josh holmes tweeted this, taking a step back from kentucky and looking at all of the elections, republicans should be most concerned about what happened in local elections in chester, delaware, bucks county, thats generally alarming if you know the history. Guest i think what youre seeing in mostly suburban areas is a continuation of 2018, were where republicans are having trouble with collegeeducated morally voters that would vote republican on pocketbook issues are disturbed by what they see in washington and are either staying home and by not voting allowing their districts to become more democratic. We have been testing those questions which i can share more principleddo republicans still appealed to the suburban voters . Host whats the move forward for 2020 and the president s campaign for reelection. Obviously its well underway with big rallies, how do you think hes going to balance campaigning and getting through this impeachment inquiry . As we all know, donald trump is tireless, a master communicator. I think you will be using twitter to address both as he goes forward. The interesting thing is that hes not doing what a lot of people would do when they are attacked the way he is being attacked, which is hunker down and get a bunker mentality. Thats good, hes out there and he realizes he needs to go out for the American People. I think youre going to see him focus on another important element, governing. Even if he cannot get nancy pelosi to pass any of his agenda, he will do what he can is the executor late as the executive leader on trade agreements to keep the country moving. Host club for growths efforts on the congressional efforts, mitt romney, the club for growth has come out with an ad against mitt romney for some of his positions against President Trump. I wanted to play that for our audience. [video clip] slick, slippery, stealthy, mitt romney had us fooled. Thing in President Trumps Magnificent Hotel and having his endorsement is a delight. Posing as a republican he tries to infiltrate trumps position as secretary of state. Now his cover is blown. News reports as a democrat secret asset, sources say he is plotting to take down President Trump with impeachment , quit colluding with democrats on impeachment. If hes not running for reelection whats the effort named at aimed at . Guest its a hardhitting ad, and for some reason, the first article he published was a criticism of donald trump. He is trying to set himself up as an alternative leader if trump fails. Frankly the message eras stop at, dont do that, we need to be together to support the president. Was theage of that ad other 52 republican senators to stay true to the president , there is not anything behind this impeachment that is really a crime or misdemeanor. And i think we were trying to send a signal not only to romney but to them, there are political consequences if you try to promote yourself in the middle of this. Host our guest is David Mcintosh, president of the club for growth. For democrats 202 7488000, for republicans 202 7488001, for independents 202 7488002. Text 202 a 7488003. Tell us we are texting from in your name. Usurping congress, you were there for the clinton impeachment process in an election year. This is a Washington Post headline. Election results, talking about tuesday, reassure House Democrats as they pursue impeachment inquiry of trump. You ran for congress in indiana for reelection in 1998. How much was the impeachment part of that discussion . Guest thats a great question. It was the dominant subtext, lets put it that way. As we were leading up to whether the Republican House would impeach president clinton. And i will tell you this, i will never forget a conversation i had, literally across the fence at my home in indiana with our nextdoor neighbors, who were moderate democrats. A wonderful family. We loved each other, got along well. But were on opposite sides of that. And she said david, let impeachment go, we are going to have an election in a year and we will take care of that then. We didnt do that. I ended up feeling that i should vote for a couple of the articles. I did not vote for all of them. I dont think congress can impeach a president because he withholds information from them. I think in the constitution each body is separate and thats whats wrong. Host that was the one article that did not pass. Guest i thought it was an overreach. Ultimately its a political question. But what i did do, listening to my neighbor, i stopped talking about impeachment as a political messaging in my district. I said these are the things i want to get done, i want to work in congress to do that. When the vote came out i had to make up my mind. I think ultimately, impeachment is a political question. And you are viewing this impeachment inquiry is very politicized. There is not any effort to reach out to republicans and say lets put aside politics, like they did in the nixon investigation, and get to the bottom of the facts, was a crime committed or coverup. Thats unfortunate for the country. What we are seeing, and you mentioned some of our activities, the new freshman democrats are caught in a bind. Nancy pelosi i think is caught radicald, her really progressive new members want impeachment, that was a number one agenda item, but many of her new members are in republican districts and the sentiment there is to get off of this. We sent you there to work on important problems. And virtually all of them promised im not going to automatically line up with nancy pelosi and the leftwing of the democrat party. But it looks like they are. One of the things we are doing in some ads that are not political ads, they are issue ads in their districts, saying congressman sandberg or promise she would be independent, shes not. Tell her to stop the impeachment and move on. Host we will shower audience that in just a moment, how did you feel about impeachment when you voted and now . Guest with reluctance i voted for the other articles of impeachment. I think that was the right legal call. As i look back now, i think it probably created damage in our fabric of coming back together after political election and i have regret about that. ,ost lets hear from michael in california on the independent line. Caller good morning. Mcintosh, collective growth infers that something is growing, are you telling us that with rent prices growing out of control, Health Prices growing out of control, and given that 50 of americans cannot afford a 400 emergency, are you telling us that a seven dollar 25 minimum wages sustainable . It was the 50s, 60s, and 70s that built the middle class, and reagan lowered taxes to 28 , look where we are now. Your thoughts . Guest what really grows the economy is when you have Less Government interference and lower taxes. John f. Kennedy proved that point, the rising tide lists all boats. When it comes to health care, i agree with you, the system is terrible for americans. The problem is not that the government is not running it, the problem is the government is running it and regulations make it impossible for Insurance Companies to offer low, affordable insurance premiums. Dont allow competition across state lines, theres a cheat policy in virginia and you cannot get in your state, those are the problems that i think we should focus on to grow the economy in a way that benefits all americans. Host on the republican line, lee, in new york. Caller hello. Impeachment came out through the ukraine deal, its waspinion that if joe biden to become the president ial lackdate, because of his of memory and inconsistencies, he would never be able to compete against President Trump. And therefore i feel the Democratic Party felt that they could kill two birds with one perpetrating this ukrainian deal. The anonymous which was written by a bevy of ghostwriters, and even if there is a legitimate whistleblower, he was probably coach. Money toa good deal of participate. This is all democratic dirty tricks. Thank you. Host we were talking about that book earlier on the program. Guest the questions she raises are legitimate questions that need to be found out about, who is making this accusation against President Trump. Like the call that senator rand paul made, lets let him testify and hear from him. Let him be crossexamined and decide whether the accusations on his part is substantiated. Who is that, what were his motives, you hear rumors that he had maybe been a democrat operative that had worked with brennan. We dont know. And i think the American People deserve to know that as they digest all of this to figure out how important this is. Host you mention your organizations efforts with what you view as vulnerable democrat and republican areas, lets take a look at the ad for club for growth has. [video clip] she got elected promising moderation, independence and results. These days its all about impeachment. All impeachment, all the time. One party pushing for power by any means necessary, nullify the last election, canceling the next one. She will get reelected. Control is the goal, partisan power grab while nothing gets done to solve real problems. Tell spanberger to stop the impeachment and stop solving problems. Your group able to gauge its success, other than ultimately the lection results next year . Guest its running in her district as a digital added to people who live in her district, targeted at swing voters. Host which websites . Guest i would have to get that to you, my staff is the purchasing. Its a message to her that you should not just fall in line with the radical elements of your party, or speaker pelosi. ,nd i think voters in virginia who really expected her to be more independent, she campaigned as someone who came out of the cia with a strong record of her own on international policy. Not your typical social worker or hard left progressive. I think of people like her in the Democratic Party i think people like her are being squeezed in the Democratic Party. Host do you think that she was bolstered by the ever increasingly blue nature of virginia . Guest the fellow who won reelection, nick, we are hoping he turns around and runs against her. Part of her district had races that democrats won, part of them were ones where republicans withheld the onslaught and kept their seats. Its a close district. It leans republican in all measures, but its a hardfought race. From pocatello, idaho, on the democrats line. You have aseems like problem with hypocrisy. , howdytly i want to ask friends, family, your and mostly yourself, when you all know who trump is. How he runs the white house. And how he should be taken out of the white house. Thats all i have to say. Im ashamed. Im very ashamed that our country is being run like this. Bipartisan and why dont we stop the hypocrisy. Should try democrats not to stay in line, but at the same time, you wont even break a vote . I guess thats it. Thank you. Guest i dont believe donald trump should be removed. He hasnt done anything that merits that when he was elected. His style is different. Thats what is shaking up washington. No other president has tweeted the way he treats, he gets engaged directly on issues and , hesnel, hes restless got more done as president. You may not like what hes done, but hes pushed through a massive change in the regulatory process, hes renegotiated trade agreements. There are plenty of opportunities where he have bipartisan work on this. The president has put forward this new trade agreement with mexico and canada. Its better for the country that we passed that and continue to build the economy. Many democrats have provisions that they wanted for a long time about protecting labor in those two countries. It should be a bipartisan agreement, but the politics on the other sides says we want to redo the last election. We didnt like it that Hillary Clinton lost and we are going to do everything we everything to stop this guy. By the way, we have studied donald trump, back in the primaries. When he was in new york, he worked with democrats all the time. I think he wouldve moved in that direction had he not felt that he was under constant attack from the first day. Host the 2017 tax cut was one of trumps signature accomplishments. There are potential reports of taxcut legislation, kevin brady, the Ranking Member on ways and means with a piece in the opinion section of usa todays back and taxes. Kevin brady writing at tax revenues are at an alltime high that bottom line is washington does not have a revenue problem but a spending problem. And he says to ensure American Families benefit from most economic growth, the publicans and President Trump will offer further smart tax cuts in a progrowth agenda to contrast democrats washington eats first tax increase. Thats from kevin brady, the opinion writers and usa today point out however that the rising tide of red ink, and the latest figures on the federal 984 billionow at from omv omb. Would club for growth support additional tax cuts . Guest yes, and kevin is right about that. But more importantly on the deficit, its a spending problem. And frankly its a problem that both parties in congress have. Its been democrats and republican appropriators that have jacked up that deficit. The president s initial budget would have kept at much lower. They ignored it, even people in his party, because they love to spend. Kevin is right, the deficit is a spending problem, there are two tax cuts that we think could make a difference and add more growth to the economy. One of them is giving Small Businesses and familyowned businesses and farms the same tax breaks that we gave large corporations. The other would help all americans with their retirement funds, if you reduced the , the stockns rate market would continue to go up and you would see 401 k s and retirement accounts really mushroom. And Middle America that feels left out of these tax cuts would then have a tremendous benefit. North palm beach florida, on the independent line. Caller hello. Thented to address importance of some crossover issues, i usually vote republican, im happy with a lot of the things this president has done to reign in globalist impact on jobs and things in this country. But i have a great concern that i think crosses both party lines. Extremesome of the things that both parties seem to be complicit in with regards to Climate Change. That is the program that is being run by david keith at , the Engineering Program to shield the sun is absolutely insane. Because they are spraying aluminum barriers to shield the sun and he has admitted that 10,000 people year are going to die from this. Host are you aware of this . Guest i would like to know more because that sounds like a terrible decision. But i dont really know anything about that program. Host lets hear from mark, in new york, good morning. I wanted to address something a i wanted to address something a few calls ago that was said about taxes, and have back in the 70s the middle class was built that way. I think 90 80 taxes are quite extreme, but i also think that giving the tax breaks that have been given by the tax act that was passed at the end of 2017 to the wealthy and the corporations with most of the tax break for an extended period of time and only the disappearing middle class a few tax breaks for a couple of years in small amounts is a bad idea. I would like to know what mr. Mcintosh thinks about a flat tax. Why shouldnt everyone pay the same percentage of tax . Thank you mark. You are right. Thats what we should strive for, getting to a flat tax where everybody pays the same. A social problem at the lower end, and republicans did this, probably i voted for it, taking some people off the tax rolls. Everyone should throw in something. And at the upper end, they should not get tax breaks when the middle class doesnt as well. A flat tax is both fair and frankly, tremendously economically stimulative if you keep it at the same levels overall now, it would eliminate the distortions. The people who resist this by the way are the special interests in washington, who have carved out tax breaks for them or their companies. And we consistently oppose that even though a lot of republican colleagues like that because they get support for it. You are right on and thats what we should strive for. If you cannot get to the perfect flat tax, move in that direction when possible. Host i want to get your reaction to another businessman set to enter the 2020 race, mike bloom bork bloomberg, the former mayor of new york and now a successful businessman is set to announce his candidacy, at aheadhe filed in alabama of the election. Today is the deadline in many states. What are your thoughts on Michael Bloomberg. Guest i have not met him but i know some of his political team. Hes a shrewd political operator. If he decided to do this, it means hes calculated a path to victory. I think he stayed out earlier because he looked at biden as a more centrist candidate, now hes looking at biden collapsing in the polls and sees a lane for him. Far leftjected the progressive policies of Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and he will run as a centrist moderate out of new york. You have new york billionaires running and hes invested in the nomination. I dont ultimately agree with his policies, he does like to use government to intervene in peoples lives. But i think its a change in the democratic part may primary and he will try to pick up that moderate lane. Rochelle,n in new texas, good morning. Caller i will be 90 on my birthday, and ive been through a lot of president s. Of all of them that ive seen, besides reagan, mr. Trump is the best. He has done what he told us he andd do, and i believe him, i think if you gave him a chance he would be one of the best ones weve had. Thank you. Host helen. Thank you. One more call. Rick, in alabama. It surprising that these republican callers are calling in to talk about what donald done. Has done i guess moral values have no place in america. President barack obama were a tan suit and they were outraged. This shows me where the republicans heart and mind is, where they stand. Have a good day. The truth stands, always, and will stand forever. Host do you think the president s character, morality, will be on the ticket in 2020 . Guest oh yes, thats an element of every election and certainly the president ial election. Let me come back to helens comment, a key character trait that people see in him that they dont seen a lot of politicians in washington is hes actually doing what he said he would do and keeping his promises. That hesomething personally cares about doing. Even if it may not be politically the best move. We dont get involved in Foreign Policy at the club, i watched what he did in syria, that was a political stance, to get out of the war when we dont need to be there. It cost him politically, but he did it. I think what youre seeing a lot of americans say, i dont agree with everything, i dont like some of the way he does things and says things, but i know he will keep his promises. You cannot trust the rest of these people because they never have. Think, aracter trait, i is particularly dominant. A lot of friends and friends of mine on the republican side agree with the gentleman from georgia who said the character area, especially a lot of people who want the president to be a moral leader more than an economic or national leader. , if you gethe end someone like Ronald Reagan who is all of the above thats ideal. But we dont have that in the sense of his own conduct. Mike pence told me the president was apologetic with some of the worst things that came up in his past. He loves america and i think those character traits come through. Host former congressman David Mcintosh, president of the club for growth. Thank you for being here. Ambassador gu crane, Marie Jovanovich ambassador to ukraine, marie yovanoctich will also be live. Sorry kenneth, you are on the air. Caller i wanted to talk to mr. Mcintosh. He was talking about mr. Trump. And a 90yearold lady called and sang mr. Trump was the best president that we have had. And i was wondering if they think a president to can grab a woman by the private parts, and lie on tv every day, and go to a foreign country and ask for help for his election and holdup aid thats going to be in our interest for National Security and do Something Like that. If they think that this man is going to be the best president that we have ever had, they are in serious trouble. They need to go back and have some kinda party to get themselves together because thats not right. Have a good day. Keep on thinking mr. Trump is good. If you get another like him and a democrat gets one often there, you cannot say anything to that next president who can go to a foreign country and ask for a and grab a woman by her private parts. You are setting the standard for the next president. Host luis, in maryland, on the republican line. Caller i just became a u. S. Citizen. m voting for President TrumpNational Security is a major me coming from Central America, i can tell you that we need a border. Im actually happy for him. Im praying that god may protect him and i dont understand why the democrats cannot Work Together so the country can continue to improve. Thank you. Sam, in fredericksburg, virginia. On the independent line. You are on the air. Go ahead. One more time. Caller hello. Thank you for taking my call. Thinker, ipendent iink theres think theres something good to say about republicans and democrats. But where i have an issue is when people ignore the facts of whats going on and pick party lines, just because they belong to one particular party. I believe everybodys allegiance has to be to the country first, not individual parties or people. So i would encourage everyone to think deeply about the country first, and not an individual party or individual person. Because without a country, there would not be any of us. Thats all i want to say. Host we spent the morning talking by the Washington Post release of the excerpt from the book by the person named as anonymous, reportedly a Trump Administration official who last year published a New York Times opinion piece, the book is called a warning. The headline on the reporting of that book in the Washington Post, the book by anonymous inept, and acruel, danger to the nation. In a similar vein, william well, the former massachusetts public was a former governor who republican from massachusetts is that its time for trump to go. He says that this is not merely antidemocracy, but they amount to an organized insurrection against our democratic elections in our constitution that protects them. The Boston Herald is where you can read this. Stephanie, in california, on the democrats line. Welcome. Caller good morning. Viewers to remind our that President Trump just went back to doing what he did with hillary. He asked outside foreign governments for help in trying to come up with a way to win the election read he did that with the russians, he did it in public view on tv. ,o for him to make this call and to help turkey and all of upse people to try to dig dirt on biden, its the same thing he did before but said he didnt do. Its just in public view. Thats all i wanted to say. Thank you. Line,on the republican this is michael anderson, from indiana. Say that thet to whole idea of this political nonsense is against trump because all i can tell you is , andbetween the president the ukrainian president , they did not whats the word im looking for . Quo did not have any pro quo. Because he asked the president electionigate the 2016 , because there was some nonsense between the bidens and ukraine, because ukraine was forced to fire the prosecutor. That is what happened. Thats all i have to say. Host this was from the hill this morning, the headline, the story released this morning, trump encounters gop resistance to investigating hunter biden. A push by President Trump and conservatives to dig into Hunter Bidens work in ukraine is running into some stumbling blocks from an unusual corner, congressional republicans. Some republicans believe trumps impeachment trial, or separate Committee Investigation could lay the groundwork for probing joe biden and his son, hunter, who have emerged as a fixation for trump and his top allies as they look for a foothold in the impeachment battle the president escalated the effort on thursday when he tweeted that the bidens must testify, raising the specter that the president s lawyers were gop senators could try to drag them into the public impeachment trial. But a push to focus on the bidens as part of an impeachment trial quickly received a cool reception from republicans on capitol hill. The hill. Com is where you can read it. Stephen, in reno, nevada, on the independent line. Caller i have a quick comment about the gentleman who was standing up for President Trump, saying he keeps his promises. I dont know how the man could get on a national tv program and lie to the public like that. But its a hundred percent lie. Get on yourlitician program and lie to us . Its just ridiculous. Its documented that the man has not fulfilled his promises, many promises are unfulfilled. But one more thing. Im independent, and all i hear is the bickering on both sides, but nobody really trying to have a solution. You might want to think about not each side but actually solution for the whole country might be a better way to go. Thank you. Democratss, on the line in buford, north carolina. Good morning. Caller i was calling in to possibly put this out there. Medical commercials on news channels and whatnot, on regular tv. I feel like they are promoting a permissive drug culture in the country and i wish they were not around. Some countries dont have these commercials and it does not promote anything great. It just says that we are in this country that likes to take a lot of medications to solve our problems. Thats all i had to say. Thank you. Host on the front page of the New York Times, diplomats say that you the u. S. Did little to stop turkey. The top diplomat on the ground in Northern Syria has criticized the Trump Administration for not trying harder to prevent turkish presence at saying that were crimes were committed and ethnic cleansing was done by turkey. In a searing memo William Roebuck weight raised the question as to whether tougher diplomacy and economic sanctions and military patrols could have deterred turkey from attacking. Similar measures have dissuaded military action before. And the answer is probably not, mr. Roebuck wrote in a memo. But we wont know because we didnt try. He did note several reasons why the turks might not of been deterred, a small American Military presence at two outpost, turkey the decadelong standing as a nato ally and a Formidable Army massing at the frontier. In a blunt critique, mr. Roebuck says the political and military turmoil that upended the administrations policy in Northern Syria and left syria and court kurdish allies abandoned and opened the door for possible resurgence was a years long upoody people in syria. But he said its a catastrophic sideshow and a significant degree to are making. Art, from san diego, on the republican line. Caller hello. I want to make a note. Bordermp has been to the with mexico several times. Number 14 reads that in the people need to to live in the United States or have a domicile. And people claim that tax credit and live in mexico and work in the United States. To build a wall all you need to attacks at the border. You would be surprised how much money you will raise. , in here is chuck pennsylvania, on the independent line. Caller hello. How are you . Host great. Im calling in an effort to stop all this bickering between democrats and republicans. I propose a new seating chart in the house. ,ne democrat, one republican one democrat, one republican, all the way down the line. That way it will force them to Start Talking to each other and treat each other like human beings. Another comment is on term limits. We have to have some type of term limit. The Founding Fathers never intended for people to be for years. And most of them get rich while doing it. Thats not acceptable and it fails the common sense test. And one more thing about the wall. We dont need a wall. Dont build a wall. Dig a ditch. They couldve had a ditch dug from across texas and california probably in a week or so. Thats it, thank you. Anything else host anything else . Caller no, thats all i was able to jot down. Host we are glad you did. Dixon, illinois, on the democrats line. Caller im calling from the home of Ronald Reagan in dixon, illinois. I was hoping maybe you could cover the ohio sexual abuse case. It seems another individual, john doe, 42, came out and vindicated representative jim jordan. I think its time for jim jordan to explain himself and resign from congress. If were supposed to have ethics within our impeachment, i think we need honorable men to oversee this. Jim jordan needs to resigned today. Thank you. Host this is leading the Washington Times this morning on their website. The headline, most harm, most illegals in mississippi ice raids stole american identities. The article says that 680 alegal immigrants nabbed at poultry plant in mississippi worked under stolen american investigatorsp told congress on thursday, rebuffing democrats who insisted the undocumented workers were doing no harm. To dubuque iowa, this is daniel, a republican caller. Caller yes, im calling in regards to monsanto and these Different Companies being sued because of roundup and other likenies being sued Johnson Johnson because of the baby powder and the Drug Companies being sued because of the pills that are being used and killing young people. How come theres not a large print warning label put on Birth Control pill packages question mark Birth Control has been a thousand Breast Cancer cases a year. Theres a study in denmark that showed that there a 38 increase of getting cancer after taking the pill. But the makers of the contraceptive pill have a small print warning label on their packages. How come they dont have like on cigarette packages like a large print warning label about the dangers of taking the pill. Host the u. S. House is out for the veterans day break. The house returns on tuesday. Hearing about the schedule ahead of that, we know that impeachment proceedings are coming up at the house will take up the continuing resolution the week of 1118, they hope that congress can fully fund the government before the end of the year. , ons oceanside, california the independent line. Are you there . We go to fall river, massachusetts, on our democrats line, andrew. Good morning. The tax break for the one per centers. I was in a situation where i and i o tax tol, the state of massachusetts and they forced me to pay the bill prove ifore i fought to actually paid the bill and they were wrong. But to do that, i would lose two to three days of work, which would have cost me more money than the bill itself. So theyre going to give a tax break to the rich, the irs should send out what the top have them pay that first, then had the lawyers come in and prove that they deserve these Tax Deductions that they have. Goes. Far as donald trump i worked with children and young adults that were sexually abused. Abusers,t with some like the guy who hung himself in the jail. If he hung around with trump, those type of people, would disappear if trump had any type of christian morals. Host we have about five minutes left, we did want to remind you of our campaign 2020 coverage, joe biden the former Vice President s in New Hampshire, thats coming up today. 1 00 eastern on cspan. After that on 3 00 we have President Trump holding an event called black voices for trump, live at three. Mary, in florida, on the republican line. Good morning. Caller good morning. Thank you for your show, it gives people a voice. But one of the things im very disturbed about is how people can be subpoenaed by congress when we have an impeachment trial and they decide they are not paid by donald trump. They are not paid by anybody but collectively, the people. So i do not understand how they could not how they could defy. Thank you. Host one of those reportedly being asked to testify before congress is the president s acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney. This is a piece from the Washington Examiner this morning, david drunker writing thats what he wants, republicans angling for white house chief of staff, he writes there is growing talk on capitol hill that mark meadows is angling to be the next white house chief of staff amid signs that President Trump has been unhappy with the current acting holder of the position, Mick Mulvaney. The conservative republican congressman recently accompanied trump to new york to attend a mixed martial arts fight and joined the president a couple of days later for a Campaign Rally in lexington, kentucky. Trips and locales with no connection to the republican congressmans Western NorthCarolina House district. Bertie is on the independent line in ohio. Caller a beautiful morning. How are you. Host im doing fine. Caller i have two things. This president will go down as one of the worst in history, and i think on more than one issue. Been inchange, hes denial, hes another one of those denier president s who has set our world back by over 40 years on the research necessary to do it with fossil fuels do away with fossil fuels and say the climate for our children and grandchildren. And when the man from the club for growth was there, he was one of those people who said he kept his promises are the only promise i remember is that he golf,e would not play because youd be too busy. As spent one third of his presidency has been spent at has golf courses. How could anyone says that he has kept his promises when he says so many things and 10,000 are lies. Im shocked at the number of people, including my friends and associates, who are highly educated can listen to him think and think that he has anything in his brain besides of acting a vacuum. Host we had a roundtable on Climate Change in a story in usa today, one of the worlds thickest mountain closures is finally succumbing to global warming. A new analysis reports that the ,lacier north of juneau, alaska has started to retreat as temperatures rise. A glaciology asked glaciolo of thesaid that all glaciers have retreated except one but taku has lost mast and has joined the rest of the retreating glaciers. Next up is paul on the democrats line. Reminded ofactually the reaganomics days, and make America Great again. Thats where the slogan came from. And during such time, following that was bill clinton. Aen clinton came in we had zero deficit. According to republicans that was the result of reaganomics, because they said it takes four years for a sitting president to implement their policies and the next term for that stuff to be implemented and to see the result. So i would like to complement for the present economy that we are enjoying today. Thank you. Host host thank you for all of you for calling and listening in. We are back tomorrow at 7 00 p. M.
