Thank you for your service and thank you for joining us today. Rep. Tulsi gabbard thank you. Thank you, admiral. Thank you for the nice introduction. Thank you even more for your Amazing Service to our country. A nice round of applause. Good afternoon, New Hampshire. It is great to be with you. Rep. John delaney i want to congratulate nancy and your amazing team on this incredibly successful event. This is one of the best turnouts of any of these president ial town all events. I know it is your Wonderful Team that made it happen, nancy. Thank you. It was great to see my former colleagues. Thee are no labels in problem solvers caucus. Excited to see one of my heroes today. Joe lieberman. We used to be neighbors. We go way back. You guys are. It is really great to be with you this afternoon. This turned out to be a home for me. I was ranked the third most bipartisan member of the congress. I dont think that is a dirty word. Obviously, no labels in the problemsolving caucus. It should be important to all of us. This is our path forward. On all the important issues we care about. That is something that we should all carried deeply about. One of the great challenges of this country is that we dont do anything anymore. As i used to say in my private life in the private sector, the cost of doing nothing is not nothing. Hugepaid a use rice price as a nation. Longertion is no becoming a nation of opportunity. I think that is central to our challenges. Let me tell you why this is personal to me. I will start with a short story about my life. August 1,y starts 1923. When 16 ships steamed into new york harbor, delivering 15,000 immigrants to our country. Coming to thehem United States of america dreaming of opportunity for their family. One of the immigrants was a little boy was coming with his Seven Brothers and sisters and his mother. That day did not go well for him. The reason it did not go well was because he was stopped at ellis island when he arrived. Seven brothers and sisters were let in. His mother was let in. He was stopped, he was separated from his family. He was sent to Staten Island for several weeks and scheduled to be deported. The reason they stopped him was because he only had one arm. Back then, we did not let people with disabilities into our country. Even if you were a little boy. His family ultimately got him an appeal. That was held in the green hall of ellis island. Great hall of ellis island. There was very little hope. The rules were very clear. Hope arrives in the form of a judge. Had just one arm. That one arm to judge armed judge let that one armed boy io the country but he said want you to make something of your life. That little boy was my grandfather. He worked in a factory for years. Like Many Americans did. My other grandfather worked as a dockworker until he fell off and broke his back. My dad was a Union Electrician for 60 years, building things all over this country. I grew up at a time, as did most of you where opportunity was there for people. It was there for people. Our society cared about this. Peoplethings to ensure had that opportunity. I have had amazing opportunities, the first in my family to go to college. Being a notch by north, starting to successful businesses, creating thousands of jobs, having the privilege of serving my country in the United States. Most importantly, to be happily married to an amazing woman for 40 years and to have two daughters. My stories are tougher today. Young people will be the first generation of americans. I want you to think about this. The first generation of americans that are projected not to do better than their parents. The first ever. If you were born in the United States of america, the chances of you doing better than your parents was 90 . The kids born in 2010 . This aint one in five will have a chance of doing better than their parents. You see this all over the country. Last year in our country, 80 of the money for Startup Companies was invested in 50 counties in our country. There are almost 3100. Of all thegot 80 money for startup businesses. Yet, 80 of our kids live in a county where the jobs getting created are not as good as the ones that used to exist. In big, urban counties, they have created 100,000 new businesses. In rural america, during the 20,000meframe, they lost businesses. Our country has grown by 75 Million People since 1990. Concentration of opportunity and huge numbers has huge numbers of people being left by. Theirvernment did not do busy job, looking at how the world has changed and doing real things to prepare our citizens and communities for change. What does that involve . Getting things done. Actually making progress. Look how the world is changing and changing our Education System as a result. Thinking about how there is so much turnover in the employment market and doing things to help states our Health Care System to prepare for that. Investing in infrastructure. We used to spend 5 of our economy on infrastructure. Today, we spend two. China spent 8. It is appalling that we had not had a bipartisan infrastructure built. Bill. This is a fundamental failure of our government. Of doing, the cost nothing is not nothing. This is why the work you are doing is so important. Trying to create that safe space for good minded members of congress on both sides of the aisle to find Common Ground and start getting real things done to benefit the American People. That is why i am running for president. To be the leader this country needs. One of the things i pledge as a candidate is to only champion bipartisan ideas that are based on existing legislation in the congress. Would that not be amazing . To say i present everyone of you whether you voted me or not. For me or not. Wouldnt that be amazing . Wouldnt it be great if the president started acting like half the country wasnt entirely wrong about the things they believed . What itd be amazing if a president got up every day and either in prayer or some silent reflection tried to get the strength to do something everyday day to unify this terribly divided nation . But you just cant say the words. You also have to do the deeds. One of the things i have committed to in my first 100 days is to put forth five or six big ideas on climate, infrastructure, health care, Digital Privacy, immigration, national service, every one of these proposals will be based on an existing bipartisan bill. I want to look at the American People and say you are good minded your good minded representatives have found Common Ground. What does that mean . Most of us agree on these things so lets get them done. [applause] rep. John delaney might infrastructure proposer will be based on a bill i introduced in congress. A trillion dollars fully paid for. It has 40 democrats and 40 republicans on it. It had the head of the progressive caucus and the head of the freedom caucus. The two most polar opposite things in the congress. That would pass. My climate proposal would be the carbon tax and dividend proposal i proposed in the congress on a bipartisan basis. The only bipartisan bill on climate. My bill for Digital Privacy was the only real Digital Privacy bill in congress. There is a pathway forward on all of these big issues. You know it. Most of the American People agree with each other on these big issues. We just dont have the principled leadership the nation needs. I believe the nation is yearning for this. They are yearning for someone to basically reestablish that. Iddle where everything happens we have allowed the extremes on each side of the aisle to hold this country hostage for decades. Who has paid the price . The American People. We failed to do the basic thing. That is why we have all this nationalism and isolationism going on. That is the wrong question answer to any question we can ask ourselves. Running fory person president to that supports the tpp. Idea. As a bipartisan so many citizens have been left behind. They are questioning everything we have ever done. Yet, what we have done as a nation has been extraordinary. In the last 30 years, by any measure, the conditions of the world have improved. The poverty rate has gone down for 30 straight years. Ofone tells you that because u. S. Leadership internationally. That is what we need. In 1958, john f. Kennedy said words that in many ways to find my campaign. He said we should not seek the republican answer or the democrat answer, we should seek, the right answer. [applause] he went on to say that we should not seek to fix explain the thelems of the past but own responsibility for our future. He gave this speech after weeks after sputnik launched. The American People were panicked at that time. What it meant. Ow they thought they lost their future. John kennedy said our future is ours to build but we have to build it together. I think we are at a similar moment. It may not be one satellite into space that it is all this change in the world driven by innovation. L incredibly powerful forces that are extraordinarily positive. They have also caused a huge part of our country to get left behind because we did not do anything. We let it happen. We did not do the basic things to prepare them. We have to believe that we are all in this together and that that is worth fighting for every single day of our lives. That is what this next election is about. Someone who will step forward and remind the American People of that every single day. This country is like all of us individually. We are all beautiful but we have our imperfections. Every day, we struggled to have our Natural Beauty overcome those in perfections. That is what this country is. A beautiful, extraordinary, magnificent country that has every advantage and a nation could possibly want to have in 2019 but we have some imperfections. The biggest one is that we have a federal government that does not work. You can change that by sending leaders to washington to put the country first. That does not mean we agree with each other on everything. Wants to live in a country where we agree on everything . That would be terrible. , we deserve and your grandkids deserve to live in a country where all of this is debated with respect and based on the facts. [applause] deserve leaders who will find that Common Ground, bring people together like i did in the congress, i did starting to businesses from scratch and being the youngest ceo in the history of the new york stock exchange. To find that Common Ground and get things done. That is why i am running for president. Animates every aspect of my life. I dont care if i get credit for anything. I just want to get things done. Why it is such a privilege to be with you. Thank you New Hampshire, thank you no lables, thank you, problem solver. All you, god bless you i dont know if we have time for questions or not. [applause] rep. John delaney i think we have time for a couple of questions. Yes . What is your name . I will tell you, sir, you are the one guy, you are talking about Mental Health. Actually, Mental Health and Emotional Health are confused. Nobody is talking about Emotional Health. Emotional health is the foundation of health. Rep. John delaney i agree with that. My question is inventions,re, poverty going down, everything is getting better. Why is drug addiction, suicide and drug was as bad as ever . Rep. John delaney got it, this is the thing. Better butis getting not for everyone. And we at the statistics talk about how the average american is doing. There is actually no average american anymore. There is the average of the people that live in big cities and are well educated. That is going through the roof. Then there is the average of huge part of our country that have been left behind. I have traveled all around our nation. I have been to all 99 counties in iowa. New is my 21st trip to hampshire. You know that johnny cash song, ive been everywhere . I have. The thing i cant get out of my head is how many small towns in this country are shrinking and aging. Pressure on the Public Education and Public Health system. They are creating opportunities for young people. In many ways, the Economic Performance of the country has been good but it masks deep underlying structural problems in our economy that is to get into the opioid crisis. Such ason there is terrible issue in New Hampshire with opioids is because the medicaid system in this state is broken. I think they pay 18 for a psychiatrist to see someone through the medicaid program. There are no providers. 18 . Ake a living on this is the core point i try to make the people. This was fixable. There are things we could have done to create parity in the Mental Health and physical health system. To ensure that private and public capital is being invested in community struggling. To do things to reform Public Education. There are things we could have done. We should have been regulating social Media Companies along time ago. Do you know the amount of teen anxiety in this country . The United Kingdom just did a survey. They said half of the teenagers wake up in the middle of the night to check their social media. That is not the problem. Of the half that wake up in the middle of the night to check their social media, half of them do it 10 times. In the unitedrs kingdom are waking up 10 times a night to check social media. You know that is happening here. Is it a surprise we have such tremendous anxiety and depression and suicide . We did not do anything. There is no regulation of the social Media Companies. You are right. Hear i want to hear. My view on this is i dont have all the answers. I have a manual for you. I have a manual for you. Rep. John delaney i would love to follow up with you after this. I agree. [indiscernible] rep. John delaney thank you, sir. [applause] rep. John delaney thank you. I want to hear what you have to say. Thank you, sir. I think im getting the hook. Is that right . Thank you all for having me, i would love your support. [applause] rep. John delaney if you care about these issues, i would love your support, send a message that this way of leading leadership, desiring unity and having a vision for the future is what youre looking for. Thank you very much thank you, thank you everybody. Im going to speak for just a
