[cheering and applause] mr. Castro good morning. Hello, New Hampshire i heard that i was coming to visit with the rowdiest, loudest proudest democrats in the United States of america. [cheering] and i have to say that you all are living up to your reputation. Let me give a shout out to your great senators senator shaheen and your representative annie kuster and representative chris pappas. And maggie hassan, to chairman buckley, to all of our New Hampshire democrats who will make sure that we beat Mitch Mcconnell and have a democratic senate. You know, like many of you, my [cheers and applause] you know, like many of you, my story is an immigrants American Dream story. I grew up along with my twin brother and mother and grandmother. My grandmother had come here as a little girl of seven years old from mexico with her sister because they lost their parents and their closest relatives lived in texas. She never finished Elementary School so she worked as a maid, a cook, and a babysitter. She raised my mother as a single parent and my mother raised my brother and me as a single parent. My brother juaquin and i are proud products of the Public Schools of texas. [applause] i had the opportunity to go back home to san antonio and to become the first in my family to be a professional as an attorney. And then enter Public Service and serve on the city council. Representing my hometown as mayor and then serve president barack obama as secretary of housing and urban development. [applause] and during that time, i had a chance to visit and work with a hundred different communities in 39 states. I am running for president because i know that we already live in the greatest nation in the world and that we can Work Together as one nation toward one destiny to make it even greater in the years to come. Im running because i know that there is going to be life after donald trump. [cheers and applause] and the important part of all of this is what is that going to look like . I believe that the destiny for this great nation in the years to come is to be the smartest, the healthiest, the fairest, and the most prosperous nation on earth. If we are going to be the smartest nation on earth, we need to start early with universal prek for threeyearolds and fouryearolds. [applause] we need to improve k12 education by paying teachers what they deserve. [applause] improving our classrooms. Reducing class sizes. Making sure that public state universities, community colleges, and job Training Programs are tuition free so that folks can afford it. [applause] we know that jobs require more knowledge and more skills than ever before and we need to equip this new generation with the skills they need to prosper. If we are going to be the healthiest nation on earth, we need a Different Health care system. The grandmother that i grew up with had diabetes. And as my brother and i got older and older, we watched as her condition got worse and worse. Until right before she passed away, she had to have one of her feet amputated which is very common for severe diabetics. But that whole time, she had medicare. I want to strengthen medicare for the people that have it and make sure it is available to every Single Person who wants it so that everybody can get great health care. [applause] and i want to make sure that we do things that we should have done a long time ago like the distinction between physical and Mental Health care and advanced Mental Health care for everyone that needs it. Making sure that we are the healthiest nation also make sure that we are protecting a womans right to choose, investing in Reproductive Health care at a time when it is under assault. [cheers and applause] if we are going to be a fair nation, we need to reimagine our criminal Justice System. Investing in public defenders, cash bail reform legalizing , marijuana and investing in diversion programs. So that instead of ending up in jail, more young people are able to reach their dreams. It also means starting right where the criminal Justice System does. I am proud that i was the first candidate to propose Police Reform in the United States. [cheers and applause] so that we do not see more cases like Aaron Gardner or Michael Brown or Laquan Mcdonald or sandra bland or pamela turner. [cheers and applause] so that no matter who you are in this country, no matter the color of your skin or how much money you have or do not have or what neighborhood you are growing up in, you are treated the same. You have the same value. You feel every bit as much a part of this country as anyone else. [cheers and applause] if we are going to be the fairest nation it means passing the equality act so no matter your Sexual Orientation or gender identity, you cannot be discriminated against when you go to look for a job, a house, or an apartment. If we are going to be the most prosperous nation honor, we have to take seriously the most existential threat to our nation and our world. I will reenter the paris climate accord, get us to net zero in the United States by 2045, grow jobs in a clean energy economy. And, insure that prosperity in the years ahead is prosperity for everyone by raising the minimum wage to at least 15 an hour and then indexing it so we do not have to fight for it year after year. Investing in Affordable Housing because in New Hampshire, like a lot of states, rent is going through the roof. We can make that happen in our country. We also have to ensure that we reform our immigration system. And i have a totally different vision on immigration that this president. I believe we can maintain a secure border but treat people with compassion and common sense. No more children in cages. No more families separated. We will keep families together. We will harness the potential of immigrants. We will make sure that we treat people with respect and humanity. We are going to show the best of what america is and not the worst. The motto of this great state is live free or die. I want you to help us live free from donald trump starting on january 20, 2021. But, if we are going to do that, if we are going to do that, we cannot do the same old thing. If we are going to do that, we are not going to win by just trying to be safe. We will win by being bold. We will win by being fearless. We will win by standing up for our values, laying on the line what we believe. That is what ive tried to do in this campaign. And little by little, we have been getting stronger and stronger. I came here today to ask for your support. I hope you will be ambassadors of this campaign. I am looking forward to the debate on thursday. And to the months ahead. I believe that we are picking up momentum and that we can win when you vote on february 10. And then go out and win in places like my home state of texas. And in california and defeat donald trump on november 3, 2020. And then, on january 20, 2021, you know somebody asked me what is the first thing you would do as president. I said i would sign the reentry into the paris climate accord. My favorite moment would come earlier in the day when it is traditional for the incoming president to usher out the outgoing president. I can just imagine being there. Getting ready to usher out donald trump and melania trump. The helicopter will be off in the distance with the door open. Ready to go. They will be ready to go back to maralago or new york. Or somewhere. And right before he leaves, right before he goes, we are going to tell him adios. Thank you very much. Thank you, New Hampshire. Thank you. Thank you. [cheers and applause]
