Milwaukee bucks. And in the summer of 2020, that will be used for the main site for the Democratic National convention. It will be a six to seven week process to transform this arena into the main stage for the Democratic National convention. The problems and challenges for putting on a can engine like this, its a lot of moving pieces. I think youve got a lot of moving parts and Everyone Needs to be on the same page together to make sure nothing goes wrong. Because we, this is playing on the biggest stage. This is four super bowls in four days. Theres no real room for error to make a lot of mistakes. There are people who are scared about the size of milwaukee. We have not had a convention of this size ever in milwaukee. I think its politically smart because i think a lot of midwesterners felt like this is flyover country. That mightve been the kind of appeal that our current president had. I think this will be one of the first in the midwest and i think thats very important. I think politics and geography make a difference. And certainly while the choice of the Convention City does not guarantee anything, i think this it sends a message around where democrats are investing. That in order to win in 2020, we need to be investing in america. We need to be here in wisconsin, and michigan, pennsylvania, ohio, and the choice of milwaukee i think really helps send that message. This is one of the places labor movement, so much under threat from republicans, was born, right here in milwaukee innervate you milwaukee community. People shed blood and died fighting for the eight hour workday. Its a place where just recent times, it has just been turned into a right to work state. Our history of Community Engagement and sharing at something i think at important to brag about. Were a very diverse community. And one of our challenges is to make sure that thats not something that just rolls off of of our tongues, but that we actually have minority participation in the economic benefit of this convention. One of the things that were most proud of at fiserv forum is that almost all of the workers were from milwaukee from wisconsin. Were hoping for similar success were talking about transforming for the Democratic National convention. We want this thing to be built and made in milwaukee where he are looking forward to accomplishing that. So the process, we raise between half million, a million dollars. Then the convention will be about 70 million. So, a significant jump in funds from the process of the convention. But this something where the money that we raise at all going back into the local economy. What we look at for Something Like this at yes, 70 million at is a lot of money to raise but thats for 200 million of economic effect to happen within milwaukee and wisconsin. We look at this at a big opportunity to not only infuse money into the local economy but also as a chance to advertise and show off the city. We are city thats fighting back. When i say fighting back, weve lost a lot of industry and we have a lot of poverty in the city. My priority as mayor, not surprisingly, is to create founding supporting jobs and to make this a safe city. As much as i love the convention being here, and i do, i cant ask our taxpayers pay it. Were hopeful that this convention, along with its other conventions will serve to create jobs and hospitality area transportation, and providing a lot of the amenities that are required for a convention. And we want people to develop their businesses, as well. We want to have Small Businesses prosper. We think this is an opportunity to showcase all that milwaukee has to offer. If in fact we are going to have 200 million of economic benefits in this community through this convention, we want to make sure that we get 18 of those received that we are able to pour back into minority communities, including women and lgbtq communities, the disabilities community. Its going to take a lot of work to do that. We already move that the restaurants and other venues, hotels, will be filled and they will make their money. But we are looking at creating a portal where people of all kinds of services can sign up and we can find places for caterers, people can provide flowers, cuffs, and makeup artists and insurance services, legal services, that we are making this as one of the things that is going to be a lot of work but its going to be one of the things that i am leaning on very heavily. This will be the first time in the history of the city and of the state that we will be host to a Major Political Party National convention. Taking frome that i it pertains is that to images at to make sure we have a good place Transportation System that we have making sure we have hotel rooms available, theyre certainly opening that as congress has done the past will allocate 5055 million and help us cut security costs. What we will do at rely heavily on the Police Department and that will be supplemented by our local sheriffs department. A lot of Police Departments in southeast wisconsin but in the histories and indicator, we will be calling on other jurisdictions throughout the nation to her perhaps allow us to use some of their Police Officers during this four day period because the security concerns are so serious. I know that this is something that has been done in the past because weve taken part in this and some of our Police Officers have gone to other communities where conventions were being held. Federal grant grant at make sure local property taxpayers arent bearing the cost which at a truly national event. I think ive in privileged to attend four of them in here milwaukee will be my fifth grade these conventions of all in a number of ways, first there is a whole lot more excitement. More events happening its them, hello more enthusiasm i think sometimes. At the end of the day, theres still the same political but event then when i attended my first event, where work to nominate a candidate, unite behind the platform, and really set the groundwork for the general election. We know that a fourday convention isnt going to be the savior, but there is going to be a spotlight on the good things. And its going to be a spotlight on the good things and at also going to be the spotlight on the challenges we have. We want to mobilize people here throughout all of wisconsin. Put our best foot forward and give people here and economic opportunity. It will really prosper in the long run. We need to make sure we are able to work with everyone, both democrats and republicans in the city and state. Along with all of the other groups that are going to be coming in and private businesses to come in to help make this a this successful. We have to make sure that were really buttoned up. That we come together as a group and put on our convention because again this at going to be our chance to show off milwaukee. We want to make sure that we are able to show milwaukee the best light. I think when you do any convention you will have an opportunity to uncover some obstacles in the planning process. I know that milwaukee is able to handle a convention thats one of the reasons we were selected. We put our best foot forward and show that weekend overcome whatever obstacles may be a two really produce what i think will be one of the best Democratic National images we have seen.
