Mr. Gidley the president is the president of all the people and what he wants to do is go to these communities and grieve with them, pray with them and offer condolences. And quite frankly, offer thank you and appreciation to those who are First Responders and put their lives on the line and were able to take out the shooter so quickly. Those american citizens who put their bodies in harms way to protect loved ones. And he also wants to talk about potential solutions on how we can keep this from happening again. Lastly, he wants to have a conversation with them that it is time to unify, that we can do something to prevent this from happening again, if we come together. Reporter let me followup on that, because you talk about the need to unify. The criticism the president has been getting is about his rhetoric, so does the president need to change his rhetoric in order to help unify the country . Mr. Gidley the president has been talking clearly about what he wants to do and the direction he wants to take the country. I hope you will ask that question to people on the left. I heard comments made about beto orourke, i believe it was on your network, and it seems to me that he is less concerned about the safety of americans and more concerned about winning the caucuses. That is problematic in many ways, because quite frankly that type of rhetoric is irresponsible and it is dangerous. It is time to move on. Reporter would the president be willing to work with president barack obama . Mr. Gidley could you repeat that . Reporter what are some exec of executive actions the president is considering, can you name two or three things . Mr. Gidley he mentioned some in his speech. We have talked to lawmakers already about the guncontrol legislation that they have, whether it is the timmy mansion bill, whether it is the red flag laws we have talked about on multiple occasions. He is also talking about some of the loopholes that would have potentially stopped this tragedy. For example, one of the shooters had a rape and kill list. But because of hipaa laws, nobody could see that when he went to purchase a firearm. There are crisis exemptions that exist. So things can be done at the legislative and executive level, so we are looking at those things. Reporter what does the president have planned . Has anybody been invited to the white house to discuss mr. Gidley obviously, the president is leaving tomorrow with the first lady to meet with people in these communities that have suffered unspeakable tragedy at the hands of evil people. We have spoken with many lawmakers at this point, at the staff level we are trying to coordinate with them to figure out the best means and ways to get together quickly. Right now, the president s focus is going into these communities and having a conversation with people on the ground. Reporter does he support or oppose that bill . Mr. Gidley he is looking at all of these bills. He ascribes several solutions from the diplomat a room the other day that we are looking at. I do not want to get ahead of any piece of legislation or where he would be on that. He is gathering the information and we will have an announcement soon. [crosstalk] mr. Gidley reporter there is rhetoric that has happened with the president that many people are blaming the president for his rhetoric, not causing perhaps this, but inspiring it. What is your response . Mr. Gidley i do not think that is what is happening, actually. I think that they are literally saying that i have seen democrats on air saying he is responsible for this, that his rhetoric is responsible for this shooting, for these deaths. That is a dangerous place to take this country, because there are plenty of people as you know who are evil there are plenty of people in this country, plenty of people in this country who commit acts of evil in the name of politicians, celebrities and all kinds of things. It is not the politicians fault when somebody acts out of their evil intention. I will just have to say that we would never dream of blaming Elizabeth Warren for the shooter who supports Elizabeth Warren. We would never dream of blaming ocasiocortez for somebody who perpetrated an attack on a dhs facility because he used the her etoric she uses uses. We would never blame barack obama for the Police Shootings in dallas, Bernie Sanders for the shooting of steve scalise. And quite frankly, it is ridiculous to try to make those connect in some way. You have to blame the people who pulled the trigger, those are the ones who are evil, those are the ones who are sick and mentally ill, and those are the ones that have to be dealt with. What about [speaking over each other] reporter how is he spending his daytoday . Mr. Gidley he is meeting with staff on a wide range of policies, having conversations and prepping for his trip to these communities. This is a very, very serious moment in our countrys history. This president recognizes the gravity of this moment. You saw that manifest in his speech in the diplomat room. And what he wanted to convey to the American People was the fact that he shares in their sadness, but also their anger. And he also offered solutions and made the point we can come out of this stronger together and unified, if we come together and we put forth solutions that actually make a difference and a change. This is not about legislation that makes people feel good. It is about legislation or executive action that makes people safer. Does he need to cool down his rhetoric, yes or no .
