I will be leaving for software area. Some of you will be coming with us. We may be meeting with chairman kim. The people kim jongun and he responded so we will see. Tomorrow we will go to the dmz, i said tomorrow when i am there, i will shake his hand, we get along and there has been no Nuclear Tests our longrange ballistic tests, he gave us back our hostages, which was great, and a lot of good things are happening. We will see. I cannot tell you exactly but they did respond favorably. I want to thank everyone for being here today. Lot of press a of press is outside, less happy than you are. G. 20 summit has been the g20 summit has been fantastic, shinzo abe has been fantastic and hosted a beautifully. Most of you know where it will be next year. In a great part of the world. We will be announcing what is happening. This was a good summit and well done, so professionally done. This marks my third visit to japan as president. Melania and i just left tokyo a short while ago, we were the first state guests to their majesties, the emperor and empress of japan, it was thrilling, first time in 202 years that an event like that took place. Quite excited and im thrilled to be back. I always like being back in japan. We have never been closer to japan that we are now. Leaders from numerals largest economies have convened here in osaka, which is a tremendous city, you fly over and say, does it ever stop . It is big and beautiful and clean. What they do with industrial manufacturing and other things is really incredible. We had a reductive conversation h a number of the leaders productive conversation with a number of the leaders, business leaders, and together we put together a lot of ideas and challenges for the future we will be able to meet and get things going very well. We touched on womens economic empowerment. Trump has done a fantastic job and a fantastic jobs and getting people within our country come almost 10 Million People, the importance of resilient and secure infrastructure, we discussed that i great length, the need to uphold the rule of law and the importance of achieving a future for international trade. That works all of the time for all of the people. In addition to the working sessions, we had a lot of working sessions, i had tremendous bilateral meetings with many heads of state and some of them are australia, japan, india, russia, brazil, saudi arabia, china, turkey, u. K. , and i met with mexico, also, with the representatives of mexico who have done an incredible job. They have really stepped up to the plate. I want to thank them. They have 6000 troops at their southern border by guatemala. It is now very hard to come in. They just ordered, somewhat of a surprise, 16,000 troops at our southern border. Their immigration laws are very strong and hours are eight disaster and disgrace to our country, we have loopholes and asylum, we could fix the asylum quickly, we could get rid up and fix the loopholes, and we would have absolutely no problem at the border. If you watch the debates, whatever they were, they do not really i think they want open borders even though four years ago they wanted walls to be built. Usther judge ruled against on section of a wall. Disgraceful decision and we will appeal it right away, ninth circuit as usual. Of judges inlot and a lot of them are any ninth circuit now and it is very unfair when a judge can do what they do, a judge in a certain area can close down the country. We had a big victory with the wall last week with a judge and washington, d. C. Who gave us a big victory. We are building a lot of wall but we had a ruling yesterday late from a judge in the ninth circuit. We will immediately appeal and we think we will win the appeal. No reason that should have happened. Andt of wall is being built mexico is doing a real job on. Arer patrol, i. C. E special people, Law Enforcement in general are special. These to say that meetings have been great. The one most people are interested in is china. We had a great meeting. We havet xi jinping, known each other for as long as i president. Many of you were at the event in china a year ago, i have never seen anything like it, it was beautiful, we had dinner last night, a number of us, it was something really incredible. Outred carpet was rolled for all of us, for this country. We had a great meeting and we will be continuing to negotiate. , for at least the time being, we will not be lifting tariffs on china but adding additional tremendous amount we had 350 billion left, which could be taxed, we are not doing that, we are going to work with china on where we left off to see if we can make a deal. They is going to start, will be consulting with us and start spending money, even the negotiation to our great farmers, great farmers in the midwest, i called them great patriots, and china will be buying a tremendous amount of food and agricultural product. They will start that very soon, almost immediately. We will give them a list of things we would like them to buy. Our farmers will be a tremendous beneficiary. 15 years before i came into the into this position, farms and farmers have had a hard time. It was down fairly steeply. And a lot of it was because nafta was a terrible deal. I spoke with nancy pelosi last night about the usmca, mexico and canada, and it is now before them. They will have to make a decision. That is one of farmers and manufacturing and unions love. A great deal for this country. Nafta was one of the worst trade deals ever made i think. Maybe the wto was worse. 1995, from the time it happened, china became a rocketship, it was flatlined and is joined the wto and they went through the roof. Very much to our liability. We lost tremendous amounts of money from that time, it was a terrible deal, role trade, wto world trade, wto, nafta has been a disaster for our country. Usmca is a great deal for our country. Canada is happy but not happy like we are happy. It is a good deal for canada and mexico. Mexico just approved it. Candidate is waiting for us to approve it. I was with the Prime Minister, i just left him a while ago and they are thrilled with the deal. Everybody wants it. Hopefully it will be a bipartisan deal. I told that to nancy pelosi, a lot of the democrats want it, specially i would say the farmers but really the industrial areas, the unions, we have things on wages and the environment that few people have ever been able to get into an agreement and it is a very big deal. It is a great deal. Tremendous support. They have to put it up for a vote. You will get a great photo in the house and a great vote in the senate. You have a tremendous trade deal between the United States and canada and mexico. It will be something very special. We spent a lot of time with a lot of countries. Australia is an example. Negotiating with japan because they send us millions of cars and we send them wheat. Sawn is you probably some of the things theyre doing but opening up many Car Companies and factories and plants throughout our country, especially in michigan. We have a lot of activity in beyond japan activity, we have a lot of activity were companies are coming back to our country, we are the hottest show in town. We are the hottest show in the world, our economy is the best. Virtually every leader i talked it isaid congratulations, incredible what has happened to the american economy, the best economy in the world. Day, wefrom election took a tremendous boost from the day after i got elected, the stock market went crazy and from that point to now, we hit the alltime high for many times, i cannot tell you what it was but many times, we built the record. Our stock market is great and jobs our great, the best job numbers. Can say is in 51 years but it is more than that and it will be more than that. Africanamerican, asianamerican, you saw that, hispanic american, the best numbers in the history of our country. We have the lowest unemployment numbers. Best numbers. Many of it bluecollar workers, they are doing fantastic, the biggest beneficiary of the tax rich, bluecollar, for the it is really for everybody, it is also for Big Companies where they are moving there and remember who owns the stocks. Ownthe Big Companies who the stocks for people with 401 k s whose numbers are 60 , 40 , different numbers that are tremendously high. The other spouse thinks the spouse investing in the 401 k is a super genius but the 401 k s are very high. I have been listening to, we will not devote any time to it, but with that kind of an attitude, their 401 k s will crash and the market will crash because of what they want to do, you would crash the market. The amount of wealth lost would be incredible. Until laterer wait in the campaign to talk about that because i want them to take these policies i do not want to change i do not want them to change it. It has been interesting to watch what is happening. We will take a few questions and im heading to south korea. I may or may not see kim jongun. But we will be going to south korea to spend about a day and a half with president moon, a good guy, he was here, i met with him also. We will see what happens. John . President , thank you so much for joining us. We all appreciate it. Good to have a chance to ask questions. How does this china deal work Going Forward . Told fox newsals they will not make any concessions until all of the terrace have been lifted tariffs have been lifted and huaweint while away taken of the blacklist. How will this unfold and if you ,o meet kim jongun tomorrow would you step across the border verynorthpres. Trump i would l comfortable doing that. With respect to china, basically, we agreed today that we would continue the negotiation, which i ended a while back. And, we are going to continue the negotiation. We agreed we would not put tariffs on the 325 billion that. Would put on if i wanted we are fairly advanced, depending on where you want to look at it and where you want to start. Pretty advanced. We did discuss numerous other things. We mentioned huawei and had to say that for the very end. One of the things i will allow is, a lot of people are surprised, we send and sell to huawei a tremendous amount of product that goes into the various things they make. I said thats ok, we will keep selling that product. These are American Companies that make audit, and that is very complex, by the way. Highly scientific. In some cases, we are the one that do it and the only ones that do it. We are the only ones with the technology. What weve done in Silicon Valley is incredible, actually. Nobody has been able to compete with it. To allow them to continue to sell that product, so American Companies can continue. The companies were not happy they couldnt sell, because they had nothing to do with whatever was potentially happening, with respect to huawei. Andalked about education some said it was harder for Chinese Students to come in, and that is something, if it were, if somebody needed it that way, chinese we want students to come use our universities. They are tremendous assets, but we did discuss it. It was brought up as a point. I said that would be just like any other nation. We are going to appoint where if you graduate from a college because our Big Companies as we talk about Silicon Valley and other places, we have a problem in our country that you graduate number one in your class from the best school in the country and they say you have to leave. We cant keep them. There going to call it smart persons waiver, but we are going to make it so that they cannot only stay, but maybe they have access to green cards. We want to keep these people here. We have to keep these. [indiscernible] pres. Trump sure. That could happen. But, we are holding on to that end they will buy our products. But, that could happen, john. That doesnt mean this is going to be a deal, but they would like to make a deal. A deal, itake would be an historic event. We have never had a deal with china. Weve had tremendous amounts of money and deficits into china. 500 million per year, and not just surplus and deficit. Im talking about real, hard, cash. It should have never ever been allowed to happen for all of our president s over the number of years. Go ahead, please. Steve herrmann from the voice of america. After your discussions with Prime Minister abe, are you still thinking about withdrawing from the u. S. Japan security treaty, and what did the Prime Minister say to you about it . Pres. Trump im not thinking about that it all. Im saying it is an unfair agreement. The last him that for six months. I said of some he attacks japan, we go after them and we are in a effect well force and are locked in a battle and committed to fight for japan. If somebody should attack the United States, they dont have to do that. That is unfair. That is the kind of deals we made. Every deal is like that. Its almost like we had people that didnt even care or they were stupid, but that is the kind of deals we had. That is typical. I told them, we are going to have to change it. No one should attack us, but should that happen, its far more likely it could be the other way, but should that happen, somebody attacks us, if we are helping them, they are going to help us. He knows that and he has no problem with that. Please. Thank you, mr. President. Clarify, is the huawei case going to have to wait to the end or would you possibly drop the extradition effort. Pres. Trump that was not discussed read we did discuss huawei but not her situation. Ok. It seemed like you didnt mean it when you said yesterday dont meddle in our elections, mr. President. Pres. Trump youre going to have to take a look at the words. I did say it. We had a great discussion, president putin and myself, i thought it was a tremendous discussion. I think they would like to do trade with the United States, and they have great product, great land. They have very rich land. A lot of oil, a lot of minerals, and the kinds of things that we like. Russia. E trade with we could do fantastically well. I could see some very positive things happening. As for your question, i did say it. I did discuss at the little after that. Yesterday, former president jimmy carter suggested your presidency is illegitimate and only got the white house with help from russia. Pres. Trump russia, russia, russia. Isnt it crazy . Jimmy carter is a nice man, a terrible president. Hes a democrat, and its a typical talking point. Hes loyal to the democrats, and , asess he should be, but everybody now understands, i won not because of russia, not because of anybody but myself. I campaigned better, smarter, harder than Hillary Clinton. I went to wisconsin, i went to michigan the night of the vote, i had 32,000 people at 1 00 in the morning on election day. I won michigan, wisconsin, pennsylvania, states that traditionally havent been won by a republican for many years. This had nothing to do with anybody but the fact that i worked harder and smarter than Hillary Clinton did. , iill say this, jimmy carter was surprised he would make a statement i saw the , and a lot of democrats like to make that statement. He has been trashed within his own party. He has been badly trashed. I felt bad for him, because over the years, he has been the forgotten president. I understand why they said that, he was not a good president. Look what happened with iran. It was a disaster. They tied him up in knots. The reason Ronald Reagan probably became president. So, it is a democrat talking point. Jim. If i could followup on the question about your comments with Vladimir Putin about russia meddling, you did seem to be joking there with the russian president. Are we taking that to be wrong . And, what is it with your coziness with some of these dictators and autocrats at the summits . With mohammad bin salman, the crown prince of saudi arabia, when you are asked about the case of Jamal Khashoggi, you didnt respond to that question of anyone. Were you afraid of offending him on that subject . Pres. Trump not really. I dont care about offending people. I figured you would know that. [laughter] way, trump by the congratulations, i hear your book is doing well. Its doing very well. I will get you an autographed copy. Pres. Trump send me one. I get along with everybody. Except for you people. I get along with a lot of people. I have a tremendous relationship with president xi. Nobody would have the deal that we have. We are getting tens of billions of dollars from china coming in. Lots of things happening. Despite that, we are moving to moving along to something that is very historic. I get along with president putin and mohammed from saudi arabia. A year to saudi arabia ago, and i wasnt so nice. I said you gotta get more oil to the system, because what is happening is no good. They did. Its people are driving at low numbers right now. You will have spikes where the gas went to five dollars and more. It wasnt so good. I also get along with people that would be perceived as being very nice. We have a lot of very nice leaders of countries. I was with Prime Minister may today, i was with so many. You can take a look. Look at japan, Prime Minister abe is fine. They are all fine as far as im concerned. Some are tougher than uppers. President , may, mr. On the case of Jamal Khashoggi, we have a lot of journalists in this room who object to what appears to be the saudi governments complicity and orchestration of the assassination and dismembering of a journalist. When you are given the opportunity to haul mohammad bin salman out on that, you didnt do that. It publicly . You think its despicable for a government to kill a journalist . Pres. Trump i think it is. 13 people or so have been prosecuted. Others are being prosecuted. Theyve taken it very seriously and they will continue to. I let everybody know im very unhappy about that whole event. If you look at what is going on, and within saudi arabia, they are prosecuting additional people. Theres a lot of things happening. At the same time, i will also say and nobody so far has pointed directly a finger at the future king of saudi arabia. I will say i spoke to his father , jim, i spoke to his father in great length. They have been a terrific ally. They are creating millions of jobs in this country. They are ordering equipment, not only military equipment, but 400 billion worth even more than that over a period of time worth of Different Things. With that being said, im extremely angry and unhappy about a thing like that taking place. As of this moment, more than 13 people are being prosecuted, and i hear the number is going to be going up, but it is a good question. Yes . Thank you, mr. President. You avoided know the further escalation with trade tensions with china. And i share details of your can you share interaction details with president xi at this time . And also, if i may, do you think it is possible that there would be a third one on ones summi oneonone summit with chairman king . Pres. Trump we wouldnt call it a summit, but we would call it a handshake. I wouldnt mind doing it at all, and im literally visiting the dmz. But, as per your question about president xi, he is a brilliant leader and a brilliant man. You know better than i that he is probably considered one of the great leaders in 200 years in china. Hes strong, tough, but he is good. Relationshipy good , and i said we cant have it where the United States loses this kind of money for the privilege of building up china. It has to be a fair deal. He understands that, but as he said, no one ever came to us. No other president came to us. My presidency could be a lot easier, not only for that but a lot of other reasons, but i dont wanted to be easy. I have a chance to do things that nobody else has ever done. We are making a deal with china we are we have a tremendous right field of tremendous money that would be coming into our country. I have a feeling thats, over a period of time, and im not rushed and i told him that, i want to get the deal right. I wouldnt even say it is complicated, but very intricate. In the meantime, our fathers are going to end up being the great beneficiary. What i did with the farmers because they did lose a certain went to sonnyy, i perdue, our secretary of agriculture, and said, how much money in the best year did china spend on our farms, in our farms buying . The best year, 16 billion. We are taking in much more than that every year in tariffs. I took 16 billion out of those tariffs, essentially out of those tariffs, and we are distributing it among farmers who have been hurt because they have been used as upon so china could get a good deal. In the end, the farmers will be the biggest beneficiary. Ive made up for the fact that farmers, targeting our because they know the farmers like me and i like them. I love them. They sort of love me when you get down to it. Billion, billion, that was a lot of money. I took it out of the tariff money. We are in the process of distributing into. The farmers could not have been happier. I had them around to table many of the farmers, and about five weeks ago, they said, we dont want money, we want a level playing field. I said youre right. Anyway you want to give it to them, they will take it. In a class bye themselves. They dont want to hand out. They just want to level playing field. They are unbelievable people and unbelievable patriots. John . Thank you, mr. President. A quick followup. You made this public invitation to kim jongun. Will it be a bad sign if he doesnt show up . Pres. Trump no. I know if he didnt, everybody will say he was stood up by chairman kim. Its very hard that she follows very hard, heits follows my twitter. A lot of people follow it. We are contacted us and not talking about for extended, just a quick hello. I getalong with him and along with other people. Is a fairuestion, it question, but i really have great relationships with everybody. I set a long time ago thats maybe i will be a sleeper on foreign policy, and if you look at what has happened on foreign policy, we are working on iran, we will see what happens. I think they would like to make a deal and that would be very smart of them to make a deal. I have all the time in the world. They were very brutal when i first came in. 18 sites of confliction, meaning where they were behind. On foreign policy, if you look at what is happening, and the other thing happening is that we are not being taken for suppers. We have countries where we defend them. We defend a tremendous percentage of the world, and they dont pay us for it. On top of it, we lose money with the same country on trade. It is all changing, and they understand it is changing, and they expect it is changing. They couldnt believe honestly, i asked Prime Minister abe, how did this happen . He said, nobody ever complained. Same thing with china. Theid, you know, you send cards to us, which is basically , we send a card to you, made in the United States, and we have to pay car to you , made in the United States, and we have to pay tariffs. Nobody lifting it and called, but i called. I want to ask you about the debate. You clearly saw some of the democratic debate. Im sure you saw the exchange between joe biden and Kamala Harris on the issue of federally mandated busing. Biden thought that was a bad policy and tried to stop it and Kamala Harris said it was an important part of the segregation, including in her own experience. Where do you stand on that issue of federally mandated busing echo pres. Trump before busing . Pres. Trump before i get into that, i think she was given too much credit. He didnt well, certainly, and maybe the facts werent necessarily on his side. I think she was given too much credit for what she did, it wasnt that outstanding. I think he was hit harder than he should have been hit, biden. Tell you, that, i will in about four weeks, because we are coming out with certain policy that will be interesting and surprising to a lot of people. Do you think Kamala Harris would be a tough opponent for you given what you saw in that debate . Pres. Trump you never know who will be tough. One that you think will be tough turns out to be not much, and sometimes, you think and ive 18, at, i had a total of the governor of virginia, many thought it was 17, but of the all their lives, they wanted to be politicians. I never thought about being a politician until a few days before i decided to run. A little before that, but not too much before. You look at some of them and they are very talented. You look at their resumes and its great. Sometimes, the ones i thought would be the topics were not the toughest at all. I should write a book, but some we hadpeople because 18 instead of the 24 or 25, but some of the ones i thought that would be absolutely the question the toughest, i didnt think they were tough at all. A lot of people said they werent tough, we were tougher. I think she was given far too much credit for what she did. That was so out of the can, right outofthebox. I thought that he did respond grade. This was not Winston Churchill we are dealing with, but it wasnt nearly as bad as they pretended it to be. Youruld i clarify negotiations and what you agree to with china on huawei . Did you agree that huawei can sell to the u. S. Or that u. S. Companies can sell to huawei . Pres. Trump u. S. Companies can sell their equipment to huawei. We are talking about equipment where there is no Great National emergency problem with it, but the u. S. Companies can sell their equipment, so we have a lot of Great Companies in Silicon Valley and based in different part of the country that make extremely complex equipment. We are letting them sell to huawei. On turkey, will turkey face sanctions if it goes ahead with the s400 purchases. Pres. Trump turkey is an interesting case. Jim is a tough cookie, president erdogan. He is tough, but i get along with him. Maybe that is a bad thing, but i think it is a good thing. Frankly, he wanted to wipe out she has a big problem with kurds, as everyone knows. Big problem with kurds, as everyone knows. He had an army at the border and was going to wipe out the kurds who helped us as we wiped out the caliphate. I called him and i asked him not to do it. They are natural enemies of his or turkeys, and he hasnt done it. They were lined up to go out and wipe out the people we just defeated the isis caliphate with, and i said you cant do it and he didnt do it. Out, during the obama administration, he wants to buy our patriot missile. They wouldnt sell it to him. Even as a member of nato, and he could be an ally, and he has a big army, they are fighters, turkey are big fighters, and we are working on the province together because he doesnt want to see people killed, and neither do i in syria. That was another thing i mentioned to president putin. I said, please, take it easy with india. If i didnt put out a statement six months ago, that would have been catastrophic, but they have in the province, 3 Million People. Getting tariffs is ok, but you dont want to kill 3 Million People or one Million People to get to tariffs. We get along great, but what happened with turkey, and i will tell you when it is fair and when it is not fair. He wanted to buy the patriot missile. Obamas group said no. He kept wanting to buy it, and they kept saying no. He couldnt bide. He needed to for defense needed it for defense. He went to russia and bought the s400, because he wouldnt get it. They wouldnt allow him to buy it. This administration, meaning the one previous to mind, didnt let him buy it. He goes to russia and makes a 400, but he put up a lot of money and he bought it. As soon as he bought it, people went back to him from our country and said, listen, we dont want to to use that system because it is not the nato system. You know all of the reasons. We dont want you to use that and do us a favor, favor, and there was nothing that we could do because they already bought it. Its hard to beat something when you cant see it. He bought over 100. I think he bought 116. He bought a lot. He wants delivery. He has paid a tremendous amount of money upfront to lockheed, our company, our jobs, everything. Now, they are saying he is using s 400 system, and if you use the s 400 system, russia and other people can gain access into the genius of the f. Honestly, im for our country. He got treated unfairly. E was told you cant buy it all of a sudden he ends up getting something else, and they said, we will sell it to you in four years. Then, they said they would get it to him immediately. Aspent a fortune on buying similar system from russia. The problem is that he already bought the planes and the planes are not compatible from our standpoint. Not from the standpoint of compatibility, but from our standpoint, National Security wise, so it is a mess. Reallyy, it is not erdogans fault. Now we have breaking news, donald trump loves turkey. He loves turkey. Side ofthe turkey instead of the united no, im not. Doesnt erdogan, who has gave us our pastor back, esther brunson. They couldnt get him back. They said he was going to be in jail forever. Esther brunson, an innocent man. The pastor was standing in the oval office with me, and he was back. Standpoint, from my and he is a tough guy when you talk about it. He is tough. I get along with him. I think he was unfairly treated. He was told you cant have it, and after he bought another system, we said we will sell it to you right away, but he couldnt use it then. I that time, he had already bought it. Its a complicated deal and we are working on it. Can i ask you one quick thing on china . Pres. Trump yes, go ahead. There was a negotiation on huawei welcoming students, holding off on tariffs so it sounds like china has agreed to by morag. Is this a lopsided agreement . Pres. Trump that is a great question. I did agree to allow our companies, i like our Companies Selling things to other people. So, i let that happen. Very complex things. These are not things easy to make. Of money. Us amount our companies were very upset. These companies are Great Companies. But, they werent exactly happy with it. We are allowing that because nt National Security. We agreed to leave that to the end. Huawei is a complicated situation. , leaveed to leave that huawei toward the end. We will see where we go with it. Yes, please. I have a question about the border, but i wanted to followup on the question about busing. You see it as a viable way of integrating schools . Pres. Trump it is been something they have done for a long period of time. There arent that many ways you will get people to schools. This is something that has been done, in some cases done with a hammer instead of a velvet glove. That is part of it, but this has certainly been a thing used Vice President biden had answered the question somewhat differently, it would have been a different result, because they did hit him hard on that one. It is certainly a primary method of getting people to schools. Does it relate to the policy youre going to unveil that you just floated . Pres. Trump it relates to everything were doing. You will be hearing about it over the next couple of months. I want to ask you about the border. It seems there is officially one week to go until the ice rates begin under that deadline you under the deadline you said. Is it realistic that you will get a deal to reform the asylum laws . Pres. Trump i say to people, used to say 45 minutes, but we could do it quickly. We could do it in a day or an hour. We could reform asylum quickly and get rid of loopholes quickly. These are horrible loopholes. The reason mexico is so good, because they have tough immigration. They dont have the kind of thing, the kind of stupidity we have. Where somebody touches one foot on our sand and we have to bring them into a court. We then have to register them. They would have to we would have to catch and release them, live in our country, and then they are supposed to come back in three years for a court case. About 2 come back. You know it as well as anybody. The fact is, they come back, but nobody comes back. 2 comes back. What were doing is that they are coming illegally and we are bringing them out legally. At the request of some good democrats, they asked me if i could hold its, and i did for a couple of weeks. We have a week left. Other than the fact that we did get it in a very bipartisan way, and i appreciate Speaker Pelosi because she is working with us. It is humanitarian money, and they didnt have any money. Nobody has ever had this problem before. We are running hospitals, we are running so many Different Things for the kids. The kids are brought up, because under the laws, the kids are used, legally used to get other people to come in. If you have a child, it is much easier to come into our country. Kids who have been absolutely abused, horribly abused. We can stop that with a minor change in the law. It is a terrible thing that they are not doing it. Heres what happening whats happening. We got it approved last night, so we have 4. 5 billion in humanitarian aid, and that is good. But, we can have that number go way down if we stop people from coming up. For instance, if we had walls up , the father in the beautiful daughter who drowned in the rio grande is very tough. It has moments where it can be very common that, all of a sudden, it becomes totally violent and people get swept away. If they thought it was hard to get in, they wouldnt be coming out. So many lives would be saved. If they would change the laws, and i said it would take us an hour, but lets give it two weeks. At the end of the second week, we will be removing people, legally removing. You are still planning that deadline . That deadline is still in place . Pres. Trump unless we do something miraculous, but the democrats, it seems to me, want to have open borders. I cant figure that out. I want people to come into our country and we need them because of all these companies coming in. We have foxconn, wisconsin, so Many Companies coming in. Auto companies, just today, president abe told me another company would build a big plant. They need people. Im all for that. The only problem is that they have to come in through a process, come in legally. It is unfair. You have billions of people in line for years and they take tests, study, and they know a lot about our country, read, and they have to go through a complicated process. These people have worked hard 7, been in line for 8, nine years. It is very unfair. We will be removing large numbers of people. People have to understand in a week . Pres. Trump yes starting sometime after july 4. The deal just past is nothing pres. Trump that is humanitarian. We need that. We are running hospitals. The border patrol, these are incredible people. They are doing what nobody thought they would do. People are coming up, and the reason is because we are doing so well as a country. In past years, we werent wing well. In past years, mexico took 32 of our car business. They were doing better than we were. Now, we are the hot country in the world and people want a piece of that action. The other reason children are coming up is because we had a separation policy. Under president obama, we had separation. President obama built those cells. They were built in 2014. Then, it turns out it was built by president obama. Im not blaming anybody but i just say this, they had a separation policy. I ended it. When i ended it, i put out a statement, i think it would bring more children up because you are ending it. You say the child can stay with the parent. I say ending it is nice, but in terms of what we are doing, it makes it tougher. The really bad thing is the cartels. I think mexico because they did 6000 and now they are doing 16,000 on our border. I think mexico is looking to swamp the cartels. Those numbers will do it. Ist mexico is doing for us great. Without the tariffs, they wouldnt have done it. Weve been after them for many years to do it, but they have, so far, its only been a week, the numbers are way down, and so far, a lot of good things have happened. Yes sir, please. Yes, please. In the second row. Two questions. Pres. Trump would you like me to leave now . [laughter] we can do this for a long time, pres. Trump we can do this for a long time, but if i stay up for two hours, they will say he stayed up too long. If you promise that you wont say everybody has a hand out, but if you want i will go on. Should i go on or should i not go on . And you are not gonna say, he went on to long . I have a flight that leaves pretty much when i wanted to. [laughter] thank you, mr. President. Two questions about iran. A week ago, you call up a strike because you are concerned it would kill iranians. Pres. Trump disproportionately, absolutely. Did military leaders provide you with any alternatives like a derelict oil rig that could have been hit . Have 50ump i alternatives, many alternatives. You dont know what the sites were. You dont know what the sites chose andwhen we designated certain areas we were thinking about, i said, how many people are going to die . Im talking about on the other side because that means a lot to me to. How many people are going to die . They said probably about 150. Much more than that because this is heavy stuff going in, and we have the greatest military in the world. I deal with them all of the time. These people are credible people. Hopefully, we dont have to use it much. Weve spent, you look at the numbers, 716 billion. We have brand new at 35 brandnew Super Hornets and f18s, and the equipment we have is incredible. The army now is beautiful. Everything is we have a military that is great. Hopefully, we dont have to use it much. They came in, said this, and i asked of them a question and they came back a short time later and said, about 150 people. I said that is disproportionate, i dont like it. My second question, here at the g20 summit, what can you tell us . Has the bulb and moved in any direction toward easing the tensions with iran and some of the meetings you had . Pres. Trump ive had a lot of countries come up to me. France has come up. If you look at president mccrone, a good guy, he came up to me and said, i do a lot of business in france does a lot of business and france does a lot of business with iran and i would like to see them. I dont think talking is great i think talking is great. Say dont i wont talk to them. I think john kerry speaking to iran a lot, maybe saying like if you wait another 15 months, maybe trump will lose the election, and then you can deal with the person a lot easier than trump. You will deal with the stiff that will give you everything you want. That makes it a little tougher for me to make a deal, but that is ok. Please, go. Tweetedresident, you out your displeasure with the Supreme Courts decision on the senses that you suggested that you may seek pres. Trump i think it is unfortunate. Will you try to delay pres. Trump we are dealing with that legally. They asked us to do a census in the census was shocking to me. I think it would be, not expensive to do a census. It is billions of dollars. Billions. They go knock on doors of every house in the country, and they are not allowed to ask whether somebody is a citizen with the United States . How horrible and ridiculous is that . We are looking at that. Pres. Trump it wasnt a real decision. Its like now, right . Now. It depends on what happens, i guess. It was a very strange and sad decision. Not in terms of voting, just a very sad because it was so convoluted, to get to that decision. It had to be very hard. The justice said your guys were playing politics in deciding not to do that. Pres. Trump whos really playing politics . You tell me whos buying politics. Whos playing politics. I think i heard you mention earlier, jeff from daily mail. I think i heard you mention with Vladimir Putin, you had spoken about election interference as well. Did you speak in a stronger tone . Pres. Trump we talked about it. You know we have talked about it before. You know he denies it totally. How many times can you get somebody to deny something . He has in the past denied it. He has denied it publicly. We talked about it, we talked about a lot of other things. We talked about something that i think is very important, and that is putting a cap on what he is buying and we are buying from a nuclear standpoint, and other armscontrol. We talked a lot about armscontrol. I think you would like to see armscontrol. I think it makes a lot of sense. What was in the Mueller Report . Did you articulate to him pres. Trump the molar report was a good report. Mueller was totally conflicted and 18 people hated me. Totally and lined the democrats want to do over, or five. They want to get it right. They are working to get it right. Please. President trump, your administration did the economic portion of the deal of the century. Why were no palestinians members of the white house peace Plan Committee . Pres. Trump they are important an important part of it, but they dont have to be. We are just getting started. Goodu know, we have a david freeman, one of the most successful lawyers in new york , one of theedman most successful lawyers in new york. Jared kushner. With me being president , if you dont get the deal done, it will never happen. We will have to see what happens. , think the palestinians basically, im not sure i know they want to make a deal, but they want to be cute, and that is ok. I understand where they are coming from. ve ended the money we were paying them 550 million per year. I endeds money that money because one year ago i heard they were saying nasty things. Areid, wait a minute, we trying to make a deal and they are saying these nasty things so we wont pay. If the deal was going to be made, we would go back. I think we have a good chance of making a deal, and a lot of people think this is probably the toughest deal of all, and it may very well be the toughest deal of all. A lot of people think it cant be made. A lot of people would say this is a deal that can be made no matter what. We are going to try, but i really believe. I went to other negotiators and ive been making this deal trying to make this deal for many years. I said, did you ever take the money away because the war was hostile . They said it is inappropriate. I said wise it inappropriate why is it inappropriate . I said if you are not negotiating and dont want to help make peace, we wont pay you. Lets see what happens. I think they want to make a deal. Ive had a Good Relationship with some of their leaders. Obviously, ive had a Good Relationship with israel now. The transaction was thrown into the air a little bit because of what happened with netanyahus election. They said he one and then they couldnt put together the coalition. Now, they are back to campaigning again. That was something that came up, and who would have expected that . Maybe something will happen faster, but that will go on for three months. There is a chance and i dont want to say a good chance because people say it is the hardest deal. When i was young, people would say what you think of this . And i used to use this is harder than the iranians and palestinians making deal. Yes, sir. Go ahead. Thats the man im looking at. Demetrius from the Financial Times. Are you saying youre taking huawei off pres. Trump no. We are going to be talking with huawei and supplying equipments from our companies. Our Companies Make billions of dollars of equipment, but we are not discussing huawei with president xi yet. I want to see, before we get into that, i want to see where we end up. We have a National Security problem, which is paramount. But are you taking a spring off of the calmest Department Entity list . Pres. Trump we have a meeting on that tomorrow or tuesday. You talked a lot about the economic and trade practices of china, you are critical. You dont talk so much about the National Security concerns about china. What you are about china . Pres. Trump i think that goes without saying. Who has done what i have done . I took zte off. That was a personal deal. President xi called me and he asked me for a personal favor, which i considered important. He is a leader of a major country, and it was important with having to deal with where the employers are located. It was 85,000 employees. He agreed to pay 1. 2 billion penalties and other things, including a board change and management changes, et cetera, at zte, which is much smaller than huawei, but it is very big. They paid us 1. 2 billion. The democrats then go out and say if i got 200 trillion, they would say this is terrible, what a terrible deal. That is the way politics is. It is sort of sad. Billion, and we closed it and opened it. We had certain changes made, as you know. It made changes to the board. They made management changes, and they paid a lot of money. They also have to buy american products. Buying american product is important to me. Its a big thing. Blue shirt. Pres. Trump are we going to continue onward . Yes. Pres. Trump does anybody say no . Huh . [laughter] stephane man eman. Pres. Trump you just left angl Merkel Angela merkel. You praised this summit as extremely successful, but the g 19 against one summit, if we look at Climate Change, why is it that you still think ignoring the dangers of Climate Change is in the interest of the american pres. Trump we have the best numbers we have ever had recently, and im not looking to put our companies out of business. Im not looking to put a standard create a standard that is so high that we will lose 25 of our production. Im not willing to do that. We have the cleanest water we have ever had, cleanest air. We have the cleanest air we have ever had, but im not willing to sacrifice the tremendous power of what we have built up over a long period of time. Enhanced andave revived. Im not willing to do that. They understand where i stand. Im notessarily sure i agree with certain countries, what theyre doing, because they are losing a lot of the power of what they can do with factories and with and im not talking about political power, although that comes with it. Im talking about the powering of a plant. It doesnt always work with a windmill. When the windmill is off, the plant is working. It doesnt always work with solar because solar is not strong enough. A lot of them want to go to wind , which has caused a lot of problems. The problem with wind, in the United States, we are subsidizing these wind towers because wind doesnt work without subsidy. I dont want to be subsidizing things that dont have to be subsidized. The United States is paying tremendous amounts of money on subsidies for wind. I dont like it. I dont want to do that. We will take a few more. Go ahead. Two questions on iran, please. Pres. Trump one. One question on iran. [laughter] i run says it will be on the verge of violating threshold for uranian richmond uranium enrichment. What will be your response when that happens . Pres. Trump you will see. Can i have a followup . Pres. Trump that is all i can say. We cannot let iran have a nuclear weapon, we just cant do it. Please. Thank you, mr. President. Ciliaamanda does a mendoza. You touch the subject of venezuela. Can you explain what was said during the meeting about venezuela, and also pres. Trump we are following venezuela closely. It is a catastrophe. It is what socialism can do. I use it all the time. It was one of the richest countries 20 years ago. It has among the Largest Oil Reserves in the world, and they dont have food, they dont have water. It is incredible. I discuss i have discussed it with almost every leader this weekend. We discussed venezuela because we dont want that to happen to us or their countries. Go ahead. You mentioned change of regime takes time, but do you think that its a possibility pres. Trump so many people are leaving venezuela it will be a ghost town. Its a bad thing that is happening in venezuela. Nobody has seen anything quite like it. Especially from the staple that they were so wealthy. I know so many people from venezuela living in miami and they are incredible people. They are incredible. Venezuelathat linda they should they call it little venezuela. These are hard workers, they are incredible. To see what is happening to venezuela is heartbreaking. It is really heartbreaking. Do you think its time to change the strategy, and do you still believe that quite out doesnt want to leave the country . Pres. Trump sure i have five different strategies that i could change at any moment. In the meantime, we are helping them from the standpoint of aid, getting as much aid as we can. I think they are making a big mistake because theyre not making the eight easy. They arent making it easy to get to people. People are starving to death, and they have no water. They have no water. They have oil, but they dont have any water. We have a lot of things in store if we have to do that. We dont want to do anything, but we dont want to get involved to the extent you may be thinking. We have a lot of alternatives. We have five different alternatives for venezuela. We will see what happens. It is doing very poorly. Ro is doingadu poorly. It is not working. Yes, maam. Anita from politico. I wanted to followup on the ,uestions asked, jim asked about the crown prince you met with earlier today. I didnt hear you answer the question. As you raise the killing of Jamal Khashoggi with him . Pres. Trump i asked him what was happening, and he was telling me, i think he said 13, but there could be more. Large numbersare of people prosecuted. He is very unhappy about it. I did mention it to him strongly, and he answers strongly. But, they are prosecuting large numbers of people. That was a bad event. And can i followup . You mentioned that the intelligence that no one had pointed the finger at him, but the cia did. The intelligence communities. Pres. Trump i cant comment on the intelligence community. I guess im allowed to do what i want to do, in terms of that, right . Can declassify. Unlike Hillary Clinton she decided to give it out. I dont want to talk about intelligence, but i will say this, a lot of people are being prosecuted and are taking it very seriously over there. Theyve done a great job in saudi arabia from the standpoint of their. One of the other things, very important, in saudi arabia. Not only are they an ally and have they spent tremendous amounts of money coming into our country, and they have been a good ally and have brought tremendous amounts of military equipment that we use and we are able to use, but they are also terror,h financing which i cant say for a lot of other countries. If you look at other countries in the area, they are financing terror. Its harder for iran because they dont have the money they used to have, and they are given 150 billion dollars, 1. 8 billion in cash, but saudi arabia has come a long way. In terms of reform, saudi arabia has come a long way. Please, in the gold. You. Rights. Thank you, mr. President. [indiscernible] just a little followup on huawei, you say you will discuss huawei. Would you say its a possibility huawei will be removed from the list the entity list . Pres. Trump i dont want to talk about it now. We are looking at it carefully. Huawei is very much in play in terms of our country and intelligence. And the intelligence community. We know a lot about huawei, but i only mention that right now. I think it is inappropriate. We are not making it, other than what we set already, we are not making it a big subject. Another question on the big picture of u. S. China relations, the u. S. Ou think and china are to each other . Strategic partners, enemies . Pres. Trump strategic partners. In the end, we can help each other. If the deal was structured, we could be great for each other. Up, they ared open largest market in the world, but they are not opening up. Yes, please. Russia, you plan to go to moscow next spring as president putin invited you . Pres. Trump yes. Do you agree westernstyle liberalism, as defined over the postwar. Postwar period is obsolete and no longer relevant to todays world . Pres. Trump i havent heard him to save i havent heard and say thats, but he hasnt that, but the defeat of nazis is a big thing. He said 25 Million People, but i heard 50 Million People. He said yesterday that Russia Fighting the nazis, they lost 25 Million People. They suffered greatly. A 75th youg can say celebration of the defeat of the nazis. He invited me, and i said i would give it serious consideration. Russia went through a lot and lost far more than anybody fighting the nazis, in terms of people. He did invite me, and i said we would get back, but we will give that serious consideration. Comment in the Financial Times was that westernstyle liberalism is obsolete. Pres. Trump he may feel that way, he sees whats going on. If you look at what is happening in los angeles, it is sad to look. And what is happening in san francisco, and a couple of other are run by an Extraordinary Group of liberal people. I dont know what theyre thinking, but he sees things that are happening in the United States. It would probably preclude him from saying this. At the same time, he congratulated me as every other leader of every country did as we did economically because we have had the strongest economy we have ever had. Im embarrassed by what we have seen in some of our cities where the politicians are afraid to do something about it or they think it is votes. I dont know what they are thinking, but when you look at los angeles, when you look at san francisco, some of the other cities and not a lot, but you dont want it to spread. At a certain point, i think the federal government has to get involved. We cant let that continue to happen to our cities. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much. I will see some of you in south korea. It has been an honor. You very much. Thank you. [applause] lives, live, your calls and comments on washington journal.
