This weekend to march in protest of policies of the trump administration. The event included a rally in front of the Lincoln Memorial, where participants spoke about a range of issues, including economic inequality, sexual misconduct, transgender rights, and protections for undocumented immigrants and socalled dreamers. This is about two hours. Hello, everybody, and thank you for coming. My name is jan rose. Yes. And i am going to be introducing people today. First, i would like to bring up to help deanna barry us with the national anthem. [applause] good afternoon. As we play the national anthem, neeinvite you to take a k in solidarity with the struggle against police brutality, if you wish. At this time, if you will take to stand inme solidarity. Thank you. Oh say can you see by the dawns early light what so proudly we hailed by the twilights last gleaming whose broad stripes and bright stars fighth the perilous oer the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming and the rockets red glare the bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag was still there o say does that starspangled banner yet wave oer the land of the free and the home of the brave [applause] thank you so much. Ust was chris singing for and that was beautiful. Briefly to very you cant hear me, ok. Im going to very briefly tell you about myself because i have been an activist for over 50 years. As a 17yearold, i got busted for one ounce of marijuana and did 10 months in a state institution. I think that opened my eyes to the way our system could brutalize a young life. When i think about the young dreamers being put in high anxiety over the whims of this president , when i think about families being torn apart because of their immigration status, and absolutely unnecessarily destroying families when i think about the kind of stuff that goes on at the whim of this president , it just breaks my heart. I think we are all here to make changes. But back to my story. With the Student Movement back in the 1960s and the pic the picture that was taken of me holding the flour was a moment holding me flower was a moment that was an epiphany for me. Prior to that, i hated the war machine and was against the people who were fighting the war. At that moment, i saw the young shoulders soldiers, the uniforms melted, and i just saw they were young men. They could have been my brother, my cousin, and i realized they, too, were victims of the war machine. At that moment, i was one with the soldiers. People dont know that about this picture. It looks mostly as if i am against the soldiers, but i realized they were victims to, and are victims. What i would like to say today is that the core of my message is the fact that we have got to get out and reenergize our responsibility. We have got to get out and vote. [cheers] jan yes, yes, yes. At the core of what elected this president was the fact that only a little over 48 of the population voted. And what people do not understand, in a democracy, if you dont vote, you just did. It was bad action that brought on board it was that action that brought on board this disc ie this excuse of a dont want to get into denigrating him at this moment because we are here to fight on whats right and not focus so much on his atrocities. I think that if people come together and start exercising their right to vote, we will clean up this mess. I believe it. I was not aware of what a mess the gop is. I did not see beyond the president ial elections. Now i do want to thank trump for opening my eyes to the need to go deeper and really clean house. So [applause] [laughter] i am so happy to see everybody today. We have some wonderful speakers. We have a lot of things for you. What i would really like to do imoduce our first sorry . [inaudible] jan we have lift every voice and saying and we would like you to enjoy it. And feel free to join in. And sing every voice [inaudible] let our rejoicing rise skies the listening theit resound loud as rolling sea sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us facing the rising sun of our new day begun let us march on till victory is won stony the road we trod bitter the chastening rod felt in the days when hope unborn had died yet with a steady beat have not our weary feet our to the place for which fathers died . We have come over a way that. With tears has been watered we have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered out from the gloomy past ill now we stand at last gleamthe white of our bright star is cast. God of our weary years god of our silent tears thou who hast brought us thus far on the way thou who hast by thy might led us into the light keep us forever in the path, we pray lest our feet stray from the places our god, where we met thee lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee shadowed beneath thy hand may we forever stand true to our god true to our native land [applause] jan thank you so much. I was just thinking, we need a president who builds bridges, not walls. [cheers] jan ok. We are blessed today to have Meeko Williams of the Voter Education network. Mi i know you are here somewhere. Welcome. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Good morning, america. We are gathered here today to deliver a strong message ands to declare that donald trump must be impeached. It is time now, america, to make the move to get him out of all this out of office, and people just like him that are putting our country through tyranny and disruption. We are not a country that is built on hate. We are not a country that is built on racism. We are not a country that discriminates against one another. We are a country of love, a country of peace. We are a country of freedom and liberty for all. We are gathered here today to make a strong message, and as my voice resonates across america, we all must stand together and we must unite now. We have a whole year trying to figure out what happened. I have a message for those people. It is time to wake up, right now. And get in the fight. Because we need you, america, we need you to do this for your community, for your children, for all of us. We care about one another and the voices of hate will not prevail right here on these very steps of the United States of america. Asstand with the dreamers Immigration Rights are the new civil rights of america. We stand with those from the black lives matter community, the lb gt q ia community, we stand with you all, we stand with everyone who opposes hate. And as i say right now, right , right the time to move now is the time to act. We dont have time to go back and forth with each other, america. We have got to lock arms right now and stand against hate and stand against xenophobia, homophobia, and all of the phobias that exist in our country. [applause] [cheers] meeko and after this march is done, you are going to hear a bunch of great speakers, but after this march is done, we are going to take it to the polls, take it back to our community. [cheers] meeko this is not private property, this is the peoples a space, and we demand here where we say, stand against hate, stand against hate, stand against hate. No hate no hate meeko no hate thank you all so very much. Hyped, weng to get are going to get lit, we are going to pump up america. We will overthrow. [cheers] jan what a strong and beautiful message. In the 1960s, we learned that if you sell them fear, you can sell them anything, and thats what has been happening over again. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Now we are going to take a moment of silence. This is to remember those who serve our country. Will you join me please just for a few moments of silence . Ok. Ready for some more good voices. I would like to welcome dr. Bruce per now, psychologist and founder of the love more movement. S bruce how you all doing . To come after the idea of standing up for hate, because we are bringing a culture of love to the world. This is a great opportunity right now. We have the opportunity to get it right. What are we going to do, what do we want . Theidea of suppressing negative, or are we increasing the positive . We have to keep our energy to what we want to see in the world. Our young people deserve the opportunity to know that the majority of people want to get it right. The majority of people want to love. We dont want paid, we dont want this stuff. It is vibrating the wrong way with us as we move forward. I want everybody to really just go inside and think about really, one, not just how this happened, but where are we going from here . As a psychologist, i think about how we are thinking. What are we thinking right now . What are we thinking about the future of our young people . What do we want them to see . How do we want them to see us, see america . I am saying, lets get it right, stand for love and not even talk about hate. If we show how attractive and put some bells and whistles around love and love each other, we wont have to talk about hate anymore. We are here, we represent all the people that want to get it right. Everybody has the opportunity right now to actually love and to operate the right way, so lets get it right. Lets stand for love. As we go forward, lets move that way. Yall, we going to get it right. [applause] jan what a great message. I really do appreciate the fact that out of the 1960s, we really did feel that love was the answer. I would hope to see that we focus on the positive and focus on that vibe. Now i would like this is a privilege and a pleasure to welcome ayana gregory. She is an educator, performing artist, and daughter of dick gregory, the iconic civil rights and comedian figure. [applause] shyna no being dont stand in the middle we about to take flight, so you better hold on. Flying through the night but your light is not on. With the eye of an eagle, the heart of a lion the wings of an angel to keep me flying light as a feather with a smile every day the love in my heart i give it away the places we will go things that we will see heaven only knows all that we will be the magic that you have if you only knew who you really are the things that you could do peopleme when you going to shine like the light you are . Hey, some people they cant hold you back because you have come so far hey, some people the planets in the galaxy are calling you hey, some people its time for you to do what you came to do its time for you to do what you came to do its time for you to do what you came to do its time for you to do what you came to do [applause] [cheers] in the spirit of the words of dr. Bruce, what we focus on grows. So often, we are so busy fighting hate that we forget to love. We are so often getting caught up in the darkness that we forget to do what my father said, just turn on the light. When you turn on your light, darkness necessarily, absolutely disappears. So lets not be so focused on who we think is the enemy that we dont forget to show up with a light and the love that we are. For thoseerstand that who did not live to see the civil rights and Human Rights Movement my father talked about marching with chair croppers sharecroppers i am talking about no guns, no bombs. There they are with sharecroppers, with sheriffs and state troopers with guns pointed right at them. And my father said they could see the fear, not in their eyes, but in the officers eyes, the Ku Klux Klans eyes. Because you dont have to have any other weapon but the light and love that you walk with. There will be a protection around you as long as you are moving with the spirit of light and good, that Everything Else must bow in your presence. Understand that every word that comes out of your mouth, every thought, is an affirmation. We are so busy talking about the war on the outside that we are not talking about the war on the inside. Every word out of your mouth is an affirmation. Are you affirming life or death . I close with this. Repeat after me. If you can hear my voice, repeat after me. I am i am. Ayanna somebody. Somebody. Ayanna somebody special. Somebodys special. Ayanna somebody caring. Somebody daring to live. Somebody daring to love. If it is to be it is up to me. If it is to be it is up to me. I. M all light, all light am and earth and air and sea and sky. We are beautiful people. Sons and daughters. Of the most high. Heirs and successors. Of a magnificent civilization. Builders and consumers of a new great nation. We are the hope the light the light. The future and the presence of an ideal world. We are great and we know it. Ael. Hty god made me. I said it. I meant it. I am here representing it. With one hand on your heart and the other hand in the air, creating a vortex of love. This moment can never be undone. This moment right here energetically can affect people and energy on a whole other continent. I am i am. Ayanna i am, i am, i am. It is already done. [applause] jan what a gift, what a gift. Please join me. [applause] jan we are all in this together. To see all the beauty coming out and the light coming out of the people is just so heartening. We have been so discouraged, all this negativity coming out, and now to hear positive voices, positive messages is so uplifting. I dont know about you, but i feel like a life has been lifted. We are going to get things better and we are going to get things right. Thank you so much. Now i would like to welcome dr. Ahmed of the Metro DetroitPolitical Action network. Ahmed hello. My name is ahmed, and you can tell from my name and my thick accent that i was not born here. While lots of you are americans by birth, i am an american by choice. I am a proud immigrant muslim american. Lived 25 years i years of my life under dictatorship. I am one of the immigrants from one of the nations that donald trump describes as a shithole nation. Let me tell you one thing about shithole nations. Let me tell you one thing about what turns a great nation into a shithole nation. It is ashithole president and government. Maybe you lived here all your life and you have not experienced what other nations experienced, what other people in other nations experienced. People live here. They are born and raised and take this freedom for granted. Seven years ago, i was standing like this in Tahrir Square with People Killed because they tried to revolt to get the right to vote. Just the basic rights of people have here, people in other countries died in order to get. You, do note to take freedom for granted. My message to you, protect what you have, because the power you have here is great. Democracy, thee right to comment protest the right to come and protest are right that most nations around the world are deprived from. Because i am grateful to this nation, because i lived most of my life in egypt, and the first came to the United States, it was the first time i have the right to vote. That is why i am grateful to this country, grateful to this nation, and i did not come here to address you, i came here to give you just one Life Experience that i had from my life under the dictatorship. And theexperience lesson and maybe the thing they want you to go home with, to know that the most dangerous threat to your democracy is not donald trump. Donald trump is only one person. Donald trump is a bad president , yes. He will stay for one year, two years, four years. At the end of the day, he will leave and someone else will come to office. The most dangerous thing that could destroy any democracy and any freedom is normalizing what is wrong. [cheers] seeingit is normalizing a president running the country like his family business, hiding his sons and doctors daughters to office. Normalizing that, normalizing corruption. Normalizing degrading and insulting women. Normalizing scapegoating immigrants and minorities. Normalizing hate. Normalizing cutting funds to education and food for people. Normalizing all these things, that is what dictators do all over the world to turn countries into dictatorships. They have generation after generation, born and raised to see all these things as normal. , you protestnow and you think it is normal. Years and years after now, your sons and daughters and grandsons will be born and raised thinking this is normal, and that is the most dangerous thing for any democracy. [cheers] i want to stand here and say, this is not normal. This is not normal. This is not normal this is not normal ahmed and i want you to take this message to your kids, dear friends, to your family, your coworkers, and say, this is not about politics anymore, it is not about trump, it is not about right and wrong this is not normal. Fight for what you have before you cant fight for it. Thank you very much. [cheers] [applause] i would like to identify myself as a jew and a zionist, and i completely support everything that was said. I would also like to go on record that i am completely against trumps attempts to move the embassy to jerusalem. I think it was a divisive act and i think it is just him wing more problems and i am very upset about his relationship with netanyahu and such. I want you to know im in solidarity with my muslim brothers and sisters and my palestinian brothers and sisters. [applause] [cheers] jan thank you so much. So now we move on and welcome sam mullen of the Johns Hopkins college democrats. Sam this is my first time using a microphone, so sorry if i screw this up. I come here is one of the 4. 8 Million Students who entered college during the first year of trump presidency. I can still remember the day right after. None of my High School Teachers were particularly happy, thankfully, and the first one i saw that day was my spanish teacher. Usually she was pretty happy, but that day she was upset, rightfully so. She talked to us about the election, normally a first, and then tears began to well up in her eyes as she told us the story about a young, undocumented immigrant who had come to her in fear he would be deported because he and his family were undocumented. Normally that class was happy, but that day it was silent. Next was my Environmental Science teacher, usually happy, to. That was the first day i had seen her upset. She told us that she would not be able to teach today because she had just lost hope. That shediscouraged had spent her entire life working to teach people about Environmental Science, when a president had just been voted in who did not even believe in it. There was a Common Thread among those people. There were people i admired with despair on their faces because they had a president who no longer respected our cherished values of inclusion, tolerance, and fairness. Now luckily these two individuals have been through a lot. They have seen administrations rise and fall and they understand that eventually, we will win. That is not who i am worried about. What im worried about are the people in my generation. A lot of of people are getting involved in politics for the first time, and i have noticed something. It is happening in high schools and colleges across this country and i fear under trumpet is only getting worse. Since the election, politics has become more polarized and divisive. President trumps complete disrespect of free press, courts , and other institutions are deeply discouraging. , for a normal person, it is hard to stay angry. It is hard to get angry about the scandal when there is a new one every day. It is hard when there is such a barrage of news coming at you. With all this crap coming out of the white house the truth is that people begin to lose hope that politics can accomplish anything. That is what i am worried about. We cant let that happen. [cheers] sam my time at college so far has been brief, but i have been trying to get people involved and to register to vote. I have been getting the same response over and over. I am losing hope it is getting disheartening. I just cant take what the gop is doing. I was talking to a friend who was involved in politics and she said something that surprised me. She said she hated politics. She told me she just could not keep up with it anymore. That was something i could never understand. I dont think politics is about who is in office or who did what or whatever petty political feud. I dont think our great traditions stretching back to the war of independence and 7076 can be constrained by an administration so dedicated to ruining the institutions we value. Thatnk we all believe politics is when millions of people get together and unite to cause change. Politics is when we raise our voices and show people that we wont take this anymore. That is why we march today. America has been told over and over that we cant do this or that. We have been greeted by cynics, telling us we cant give women the right to vote or cant end slavery or segregation. We have responded over and over again with a creed that sums up the spirit of the people yes we can. We are in much more dire straits then when those words were for spoken by young senator obama in 2008. But once again, we can overcome. If we unite and march and a show this nation, city, and world that we dont accept the divisive rhetoric, we can make a difference and save the world. That is why we are marching today. Thank you. [applause] jan we cannot let this become the new normal. Me or does it feel like trump sucks the air out of america . Thank you. I would like to introduce ginnys poindexter janice poindexter, a transgender ist. Ial where is janice . Behind me. [laughter] janice good morning, everyone. It is very important that we of what wethe impact are doing here. This is community gathering, community sharing, coming together and speaking against an institutionalized mentality that set toto discriminate, not acknowledge properly, and sent to a press. And we have to stand up and fight that. I get tired of people turning the other cheek or looking the other wet, because they feel it is not at their doorstep. It starts with the blacks, goes to the muslims, it has met the mexicans, and then it will be you. You have to realize exactly what is going on here. Michiganth the quality and i am also a founding board member of the transsisters of color project in detroit. , i make ano intentional effort to go to different communities, to learn about the hardships, to identify the victimization, and to help in anyway possible that we can, because it is obviously going to take all of us. Parallelunderstand the of all of us, then you will stop separating yourself from the problem and start to think about results. [cheers] jeynce i ask that you partner, that you connect yourself with an organization or agency that aligns with what you feel like is the next call for action. Donate. Volunteer. Rhetoric support. This rhetoric from this it administration is unacceptable and the best way for you to send that message and tell them you dont appreciated and will not stand for it is doing exactly what we are doing here today. Resist. Power to the people. God bless and we love you all. [cheers] notrump, no kkk, no fascist usa. Kkk, no fascist usa. Jan well spoken. With hise welcome leading voice against Sexual Assault and the spokesperson for campaign, Ebony Johnson from baltimore, maryland. Ebony first and foremost, i am just completely privileged and want to say a big thank you to everybody who made it possible for me to speak at this historic event. I have worked hard to get to this place. I hope you all can hear me. As an advocate and survivor of sexual abuse and Sexual Assault, i have made it my journey to ensure that no other person, no matter their race, Sexual Orientation, gender, age, creed, religion, or background has to experience what i have. My first time experiencing sexual abuse was by a Family Member as a child. Subsequently in my adulthood, i experienced Sexual Assault by a member of the place that i were shipped. In my later experience, i was told that i was lying about what happened to me and that i wanted the assault happened, and i was also told the perpetrator said i was lying and i wanted it to happen. They also lied to the Church Members that what took place did not happen. I was also punished by the leaders of this church and told that i would never again in my life be able to serve in any ministry in the church due to the symptoms i suffered following the abuse. This is the church that i was born in and had family in. To add insult to injury, i was told by investigators on my case that there was not enough evidence to go to court. I decided that enough was enough after last year, when it had been publicized that thousands of rape kits in maryland had gone untested or evidence prematurely destroyed that could have been admissible in the court of law to prove that rape took place. I was completely livid that i have read the same headline before and thought that surely what i was reading was the old news story and immediately took to making a difference. I started the campaign not one more to ensure that the primitive definition of rape where the victim would have to prove they resisted would change. When i say not one more, i mean not one more person, no matter what race, creed, background, or Sexual Orientation be told that their rape or abuse was their fault, not one more rate get being destroyed, and not one more person being abused period. [cheers] ebony thank you all. I traveled to annapolis week after week during last years legislative session to ensure my testimony was listen to, not only for myself but for others. Im able to successfully stand here and say that marilyn finally got the memo that maryland finally got the memo. The work is still not complete. There are bills on the table that we have to follow to ensure justice takes place. I also reflect on the time i was privileged to be invited to the white house of the Obama Administration to appreciate in a campaign that promotes rights for victims of Sexual Assault on college campuses. I sure this with all of you to encourage each and every one of you that you are a survivor, no matter what you have gone through, what drama, and that your voice can and will make a difference, just like mine has. For effective change on policies and laws that Govern Society locally, nationally, worldwide, and to see yourself as the next governor, senator, and president. I want everyone to look at the person next to you and say, it is not your fault. Whatever pain you were they may be experiencing. In the meantime, keep pushing because you are leader. I will not lie, every day is a struggle for me, but it makes me that much more grateful to be on this stage. You all will see me again. In the meantime, take care of yourself and others and remember, it is not your fault. Thank you all so very much. [applause] [cheers] jan thank you, ebony. I want to take a minute to briefly touch on a 30 Year Campaign that i have had. I have been trying to get dr. N, a Washington Area psychiatrist, to make amends to a patient of his, diane, who when she was 19 years old participated in a group that i coled with him for eating disorders. He when i left, we were involved. When i left, he used to have her stay after group and kept her around to keep away his night terrors. When she came to me two years later, what she related to me was that she had fallen not be in love with him, had fallen madly in love with them, and when he got together with an old college flame, he decided to get rid of her by getting him arrested by getting her arrested. She had tried to please him by cleaning up the detached garage. He had her arrested for stealing toilets that she paid to have someone remove. There is a statute of limitations on the crimes, but there is no statute of limitations on the kind of damage he did in this young womans life. She reported to me she started beating herself with a belt and other selfmutilation. , have, for the last 30 years every few years, tried to get back to him. He has a radio show, he has books on relationships. Him, make amends to diane, help her get whole again. I have been completely stalled, completely ignored. Timehoping in this me too to get this message out to Peter Breggin that it is time to make amends to diane, time to heal this old when. Thank you for listening to that. Back to the program i want to welcome activist jessica from the organization stop drop ann arbor stop trump ann arbor. Jessica hello, everyone. In november last year, trump was elected president. In november, we started an organization in ann arbor called stop trump ann arbor and in december we recognized organize our first event. We marched on the Michigan State capital to demand that the Electoral College vote their conscience. They should have listened to us. Year, i gotof last my first mammogram. Just after new years, i was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. In the past year, i have had a bilateral mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. What has kept me going has been organizing, fighting for something larger than myself. My life is unrecognizable from what it was little over a year ago, but none of us will ever be the same. Our country will never be the same. Today hashment march had to overcome so many obstacles. But we persisted. We are here today to fight for the impeachment and the removal of the 45th president of the United States of america. [cheers] [applause] i am also here today to find my kindred spirits, the ones who have made their peace with having enemies. Warrioryou cant be a and the Resistance Movement without having enemies. Whatever age you are, whatever fire you had to walk through to make you that way, we need you now. Michigan over the past year, we have set off the Rapid Response team to protect our immigrant Community Members from ice, immigration and customs enforcement. Arbor sees icenn or an ice roadblock or any other Immigration Enforcement activity, they call our hotline. We then send a text to 500 people who have signed up for the Rapid Response team. Everyone who can shows up immediately to try to protect each other from trumps deportation machine. [cheers] jessica on sunday, june 11, ice arrested over 100 Iraqi Christians from the Metro Detroit area to deport them back to iraq. These are people who came here legally. In many cases, fleeing the Saddam Hussein regime and religious persecution. If you are a christian, deportation back to iraq is a death sentence. You will be targeted both as a christian and as an american. Sent aunday, june 11, we text to the Rapid Response team to join the families of the men who had been taken. We went to the detroit ice field office. Bus full ofone detainees out of the parking lot to send them to youngstown, ohio to jail. Family members were standing outside, screaming. One woman fainted. But when ice tried to bring out the second bus of detainees, we were ready. We, along with family of the people who were detained, stepped in front of the bus, and we stopped the bus for over an hour. [cheers] jessica but because we did not have the numbers, we had not built enough connections, they were able eventually to get the bus through. Maybe next time they wont. [cheers] jessica what our government is promoting policies that are evil and immoral, we have to stand in the way. Said, oneher king jr. Has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. [cheers] jessica we need a Massive Campaign of civil disobedience to defy the policies of the trump administration. [cheers] jessica and not the kind of civil disobedience where we are just trying to make a point or prove that we are morally superior, because we are way past that. The question is, how do we stop them from destroying the lives of our family, friends, and neighbors . Not only with immigration policies, but with health care, education, climate change, the lack of decent jobs, police, and policies of mass incarceration. How do we protect each other against the threat of nuclear war and an emboldened neonazi movement. . How do we stop them from taking the dreamers, the daca kids . We need to build our connections and organize so that in the future, our numbers and our power can win. We need to stay connected after today. If this sounds like something you would be up for, go to facebook. Like or follow equal america resistance network, so that we can stay in touch after today. The equal america resistance network. People who have not been groomed by privilege for leadership often think that those in power have some secret that we can never learn. There is no secret. There is no one Better Qualified than those of us who are here today to lead this nation. And there is no one else. It is scary, but it is true. We are the ones we have been waiting for. I hope to see you all again. Thank you. [cheers] [applause] jan i am reminded of eldridge if you ares not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. You all coming here today is a real heart left. Heartlift. At 1 00, we will start marching. We have some more speakers we would like to share. I want you to keep up this energy, it is beautiful. Let me get back to the program. Lets see. Please help me welcome jay nightwolf, native american activist and host of the radio show American Indians truth. S. Jay [speaking native language] nightwolf, a member of the cherokee nation. And also imagine if theo government were looking after your best interests. All of your assets would be managed by bureaucrats on your behalf. The special bureau has even been overseen. Every important decision you make requires approval, and every approval comes with an amount of bullshit regulations. How does this work . If you dont know, as a native years we for over 500 have been held hostage by a foreign government, a foreign takeover. When i heard this boy in the nfle house talk about Football Players and call them sons of bitches, i said on my you were tom, if ask any of these Football Players if any of their mothers s, their answers would be no. Is real son of a bitch occupying 1600 pennsylvania avenue. [applause] about of brooklyn, queens dog with a bank account. This fool has done more in one year to tear down the hopes and dreams of all of us here in america than all of the president s combined before him. [applause] make, although some of the dont particularly care for barack obama, i will tell you this about him. He did more for the American Indian than all of his people, and all of the president s before him. [applause] every year he held a tribal summit in the white house and invited the tribes to come the first thing i said, hell is george w. Bush . And i thought george w. Bush was. He dumbest son of a bitch what do we do to get past this . All register, and our friends, acquaintances and families to vote not just for 2020, but for all of the state, local do you understand what i am saying . In order for us to take this back, to change this, it is going to take the vote. One thing i want you all to know is that when i became a radio talkshow host 17 years ago on wp fw, i did not want to do it. My brother was 39 years old. He graduated from the u. S. Naval academy in 1976 and became the youngest native american Lieutenant Colonel in the United States marine corps. But he passed away at 39 from cancer. Prior to that i lost my dad, and then i lost my mom. Before that, i lost my two sisters when they were little girls. I went home after his funeral, and i felt so depressed and so angry with god that i felt it was my time to have a conversation with him. Nobody was in my house but my dog and myself, and my dog does not talk. My question to god was, who in arehell do you think you that you can take my sisters, my brother, my mother, my father and my wife . And i heard a voice. Im not crazy. Am youre said, i father. I and your mother. I and your sisters. I am your sisters. And i am your wife. What more must i take from you before you do what i ordained you are in thee womb. I speak for all of the human white, the red, the black and yellow. Were all inextricably bound to each other by struggle and determination. Never, ever give up. This guy in the white house is just a phase, and he needs to be phased out. [applause] tell your congressional members to impeach the son of a bitch. And, take pence with him, because hes no better. Thank you for allowing me to speak today. I have behind me the uptown boys, the only native American Drum Group to originate out of washington, d. C. [applause] jan i just cant say enough. But moving right along, it is an atreme pleasure to introduce human rights activist, Community Development advocate, and son of dick gregory. Yohance good afternoon. I guess it is noon now. I come to you standing on the shoulders of all of my ancestors. And in my tradition, i acknowledge them. So some of you may know that my most recent ancestor, dick gregory. For those of you who dont, i direct you to youtube. Just look up a couple of his speeches. You willyou do that, understand the fire that i come with. Gregory sacrificed everything. He sacrificed millions before he even made them. And when he made them, he gave them up. Sacrificed again as the first black comedian to break the color barrier. He willingly walked away to stand up and join his brother, dr. Martin luther king. Medgar evers. Malcolm x, and the names go on and on. Literally when he passed in august, he was still fighting to his dying breath. And so by growing up at the footsteps of seeing somebody who is willing to do everything and give everything to make this world better place, that is the spirit and the fire in the energy i come with. That were in you istate of crisis right now, need to make sure that we understand that. Look at our youth. Suicide amongst our young people at an alltime high. Depression, low selfesteem. Racism,Sexual Assault, antiimmigrant and im just talking about the president. See i work with young people, and leadership is critical and vital, and it sets the tone and the direction. So how can we as a nation expect our young people to act and behave in a way when the leader of this nation has done every single thing you tell your child never to do . Never to say . [applause] ifif you understand that, you have a child or grandchild or a niece or nephew or a cousin, someone in your community you love, you must understand that we are in a state of crisis. We have all experienced hardship. Maybe we were evicted. Maybe we went through a bad relationship and broke up. Maybe we could not pay a bill. Something where our community saw a crisis. Maybe we were crying, maybe we were fighting like hell. Maybe will calling everyone we knew to borrow an additional 100. Those around you know what you look like when you are in crisis. So if youre just sitting there sipping your coffee, eating a doughnut, looking at what others are doing, you are not responding appropriately to the crisis we are in. Someone said there was just a womens march last week. Why are you coming out again . I said, do you think discrimination takes a day off . Do you think racism takes a day off . Do you think right over there in 1600 pennsylvania avenue they whereying, you know what, going to discriminate against women in january but given february off . So why should wait . Why should we . Let me be clear. Is the fun part. This is where you come to get energized. Were not doing the work today. Were preparing to do the work. This is the pep rally for the work we will do. Look to your left, and look to your right. Knowingive here without at least five other people that you did not know before you came, we are doing the right home, ecause we need to go maintain those connections, and do work in our community. We need to run for office. But we are just running for office to run for office. We need to work with the elderly and in youth services. The civil rights march was not just a march, it was about making sure that everybody had a better quality of life. So would best yourselves in math. One last thing invest yourselves in that. We need to understand how to do this work. Just a couple weeks ago, the president of this nation said some of the most vile, disgusting words ever to describe some of the most proud in this mighty nation. The first nation to liberate its people from the shackles of slavery, when this country did not have the audacity to do it. And as bile and disgusting as his words were, i said, they were news. When tom brady throws a touchdown, thats not news. Thats what he does. A racist does racist things. So the fact that we allowed that to dominate the news cycle in the same week it was revealed that he has made over 35 million in secret real estate deals, at the last minute he put a provision in the tax bill that benefited only Real Estate Companies that operated llcs, and not a word of print when out there. That lets you know that the white male who thinks he has more line with trump in the ozarks are the midwest, actually, he doesnt have his back. We have more line with the the working class, the bluecollar. Our job is to take our connections with us and bring more people onto the fight. To let them know they are not your enemys, but your allies. Never give up, and never stop resisting. [applause] in remembrance of all of those who lost their lives without receiving justice from police brutality, we ask to take a moment of silence. Thank you. [applause] jan we only have a few more speakers, and then work to hit the road, gang. Please welcome activist and university of maryland student dominique lyons. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Anywhere, is ae, threat to justice everywhere. That came from my hero, my inspiration, our friend, our brother, dr. Martin luther king jr. Now i want to say to the people behind me over there, were not here at this rally to take up space. ,e are here to send a message pence, toto republicans. That we will not tolerate the racism, bigotry and ignorance. [applause] now to give you a little bit about me before i shut the hell up. This is an about me. Its about you. I was born in d. C. It was my sister and i, we were born to a single mother. Daddy never had much interest in raising us. But i made it. And right now, my hometown of washington, d. C. , is under attack because a man with orange hair is trying to segregate us again. Ask donald trump. Too, pence, because you aint far off. Ryan. Let me tell you something donald we will not back down to you. We will allow you to mess with dreamers and take away from this country. We in congress are working our asses off. We should never have rescinded daca. Its not happening. [applause] ive been a member of the resistance since november, and ever since that womens march. And im passionate and ready to go. Im fed up and fired up. The injustices that have been going on so far. So donald trump, would you think you are what you think we are . Were the next dr. Thats going to run, the next teacher thats going to run. You call, my brother, us rapists and pigs and shithole people. You messed up everybody. But you know what . Weve got a message to send you. You instructed justice at the fbi, you got caught in collusion. Find those 33,000 emails that Hillary Clinton and the democrats had. You did it. Thats one of the reasons why were going to impeach you. If we dont do it now, will do it when the democrats get back in office. You are laundering money. All for your businesses. Then you can run america like a business. Let me tell you something donald trump have you read the constitution . America ate a business america aint a business. Twitter, get on off and read the damn constitution. [applause] women. U sexually assault i am a diehard feminist. And iraised around women, will not allow donald trump to segregate yall. [applause] now you threaten north korea. Guess what . Or know what kim jongil kim jongiun, whoever the hell he is you would be saying this. And that is that we would meet them with fire and fury. How dumb is that . This is wrong. This is immoral. We need to stand up in 2018. Run in all 435 seats. For all 100 senate seats. Run in every local and state election so that we can win South Carolina and florida and michigan and ohio and new jersey, and then we can go back in 2020 and take back the white house. Yeah. [applause] country wherehe we are all united. And we have made mistakes. We try to work with the republicans, but they did not want to work with us. Mcconnell just snarled. Ok, i would rather take politics over dreamers. My man chuck schumer, he aint playing. The gave you the benefit of the doubt. I urged you to take it, but guess what, we are still taking your job. Impeach trump. Thank you. [applause] jan ok. Moving right along. I would like to welcome dn a eanna berry. There you are. I love you. Good afternoon, america. How are you . All right. I am a proud, humble american citizen. This is a wonderful opportunity to be her before you. Some have asked me to simply share my story. So it is my time to share my story, and to shed light on issues that havent been talked about or brushed to the side because they were bigger issues. Big issues always start out little first. I bring you greetings from a small town in South Carolina called denmark, population a little bit over 3000, city of the most exquisite dogwood trees and houses and people you would ever want to meet. It is one of five towns or cities that make up the hamburg county. It ranks as the third poorest county in South Carolina, and like many other counties across this great nation it is a forgotten county. My incredible husband patrick and i decided to move to denmark five years ago with our blended family. And his two. Dren it was more Cost Effective for my family to move to denmark because we were under such great strain. My daughter was dying, and it was nothing we could do about it. So the matter of moving to an area that was more Cost Effective, but not realizing that that would hurt us even more because of a lack of resources. A lot of these rural towns and communities struggle due to lack of resources, that we have those who are in power and position who choose to make it their business to fight against one another instead of coming together to make this nation the great nation it already is. [applause] so the Worst Nightmare for me was waking up every night to a blue baby, not knowing what was wrong with her, no doctors who andd help me, no education, when we did get a diagnosis there was no information, no resources, and we were alone. We ended up selling every single thing we owned to save her life. Thats what we do as parents, right . Desperateild is in need you do what it takes to save your childs life, and thats what we did. And after losing everything we owned and reaching out to the scrutiny, thstanding people talking, we still persevered. Instead of laying down and taking that, even after her Insurance Company decided to stop paying for all of her were forceds, we with deciding whether or not to pay the rent or paying her medical bills because we did not want her to die. Here in this country, we are at a crisis. You can imagine the fear that ripped through my heart last year after finding out that would they were trying to put a policy in place that would basically murder the American People in regards to our health care. Crucial andtely important that we as American People understand our position, that we continue to fight when others quit. We must keep going. I am going to say it again. You must continue to fight when others have quit. You cannot stop. We will not back down. And how i thought the Insurance Company in my state, was that i picked up signs like many of you corners i stood on where people were laughing and mocking me. I won the right for my daughter to have the surgery she needed that ultimately saved her life. And now we are faced with issues or people dont understand what is important, of the voting locally. If you put those individuals in positions of power to fight locally, they will fight for you nationally. To choose locally just as much as it is to choose a national level. So i beseech each of you today to understand, in denmark we are facing something right now. We have an extreme water crisis that is going on right. Many are in denial, many feel that we are doing the most. Down becauset back we have a right to access free, clean and healthy drinking water. [applause] and it is time now for us to stop the bickering, stopped because toand forth, me it is as though the policies they are trying to implement are set to assassinate the American People. And if you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything. We are the people. This is our march. We are the people. We take back our country, and it starts here and now. Never give up. Never stop. No matter who is with you, no matter whos not with you, you never stop fighting. [applause] and i want you to know that we will not back down. We will not give up. We will continue to gain in numbers. We will continue to do what is right for our fellow brothers and our fellow sisters, our fellow americans, dreamers, those who want opportunities that they cannot have in their own countries and to come here and do it legally, we do support you. And i ask you, the American People, to remain united despite your beliefs, because it is the children and the elderly who suffer the most. Which side you will be on. I am for the American People. [applause] i am for the American People. [applause] [captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. Visit ncicap. Thank you, nikki. So, here we go. I want you to welcome activists and forensic social worker with day burgess. Burgess. [applause] come on man, given to them. Hello family, first i want to say i am extremely proud and grateful to be here today on day. Beautiful my mom unexpectedly passed on Christmas Day 2017 and i had come across a message of wisdom from her that i would like to share with you today. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Dont be afraid to voice your opinion. If you play to win, you will succeed. My name is rodney rename burden renee burgan and we are a nation of individuals who are joined here today because we believe in hope and togetherness for all people in this country. I choose to probably serve the great state of maryland as a social worker with the office of the public defender. Where legal representation is provided for all indigenous people, including undocumented men, women, and children. It is there that i work with juveniles and adults and i tell peoples life stories. I work with those who are charged with offensive offenses that include misdemeanors and offenses such murder. Many of whom struggle or have struggled with addiction, mental health, homelessness, and living in a society where some of turned their backs on them. How the Opioid Crisis has impacted lives across all social classes, genders, Sexual Orientations, races, and religions. I have met parents who would rather see their loved ones locked up as opposed to being on the street in search of their next eye. It is there that i work with others to get people treatment rather than extended incarceration. [applause] i have encountered individuals who are so much more than the crime they have committed and not the evil monster they can be portrayed as. I have met individuals who are concerned they are going to lose whichpublic benefits, impacts mothers who need to feed their children, veterans at risk of losing her medical health and mental needs and seniors who can lose benefits for longterm care. Ive also seen and bore witness to the power of change that people can grow positively from their negative experience. There are those who have struggled with addiction who have been able to climb up from that hell and gain a life of promise and gratitude. The a board member of Robert W Johnson center, place where urban low income children can go to after school and during the summer. For some, it is safer for them to be at the center the and at home. These children are the future and they need to have the hope and believe in a better tomorrow. That is part of the reason were standing here today in support of one another. Together we continue to fight the powers that be by doing exactly what we are doing today. Showing up united and numbers and not being silent. To continue to speak up for a salsa and others in the name of justice and what is for ourselves and others in the name of justice and what is right. With those who share the ideals and values we believe in. ,y mother was a strong independent, courageous woman theinstilled in me what power of voting means and how important it is for people to get out and vote. This year as an important time for us to get out there and elect those who will fight for the rights of others and work for unity. 2018 is the year with unprecedented numbers of women running for office in cities and states across this nation. That will allow his to take back our government. That is for the people, by the people. These goals are further accomplished through the care, compassion, and respect we show one another. Not through the device of him were a belief that our current leadership embraces. I encourage everyone today and the each day hereafter to come together, racial fist in the air, and resist. Thank you. Applausend ] as Student Activist is now going to speak. Go get them, tiger. We dont have to lie about the size of this crowd, do we . I am just as 17yearold kid from las vegas it did not know much about politics he year and half ago, but this guy inspired me to find my voice and to come from that place in las vegas. Anyone else here from las vegas . Thats what i thought. To come out here, find my voice, deliver the speech to you. Either this goes really well and it is because of him or does not, and it is all his fault. All right. I come from the city of las vegas and the great state of nevada. Like many stories, mine is one of a longshot attempt to beat the odds. Instead of playing for that elusive royal flush, my family had to play the best they could with the cards dealt to them by life. When she was a teenager, my mother emigrated from the philippines with her family. After a brief return to her homeland for college, she returned to the bay area where she had me. We found ourselves putting down our roots in the outskirts of las vegas where she balanced being a single mother to a kid who could never shut up with breaking down trees in the internet and district. Because of her i was able to get to where i am today. Despite all the cards stacked against me, she never let them become an obstacle. I am the child of immigrants. My father left before i was six. Dinnersme, all of my were boxed macaroni and cheese and happy meals. Yet here i am studying at Johns Hopkins university and speaking in front of one of the most important events of our time. City defined by jackpots, perhaps the most impactful of my lucky breaks, the one that led to so many more, with the opportunity to attend a little place called nw clark high school. In the heart of innercity las vegas. It might not be the first place you look forces sex stories, but i being a Magnet School, it might not be the first place you look for success stories, but it is a Magnet School in the inner city. It uniquely cosmopolitan location right with withtunities rife opportunities. What seemed a time to be a barren desert, for many of my fellow students that desert seemed endless. Despite going to the same school, the local neighborhood students more often than not were not able to access the same opportunities, usually due to family struggles. Halls alongside the students i learned the most important lesson in all my years of school. Dailyhumbly reminded on a basis that the opportunity i was given met at no door that i could ever think to walk through in life could be closed to me. For far too many of our fellow americans, this is not with the path ahead looks like. For far too many of our americans both roll on durban, the chance of succeeding are rur will and urban, both withd urban, are filled discrimination that should never be in our history books let alone an hour news today. Opportunity for the downtrodden seems more scarce with each passing day, my friends and i may never been able to access the publicly funded programs immigrantsled us, it across the nation, to schools like Johns Hopkins. By coming together, American Society has been torn apart by Donald Trumps destructive rhetoric. What is the answer we are looking for . For this, as with many other questions in my life, i turned to my mother. For my family, it was fueled by the American Dream. That fundamental part of our society, which has given generations of americans hope that if you work hard and play by the rules, youll succeed, this is what we want from washington. Were not asking for handouts, freee not asking for a ride. I we ask is to be able to model that American Dream which has long been considered the finding a reality. Trumps administration lined the pockets of friends and donors at the expense of programs that helped williams meet basic needs, when they continually undermine the rule of law, freedom of the press seems to be the citizenrys only defense against the intentions of the government. What may have alternative facts, it certainly seems as if that binding strand is being constantly unraveled. Yet, we refused to give in to the erosion of all that makes this country great. Choosing instead, as our forefathers did, to reject it. We take to the streets, signs and make friends at hand. We take to the internet. Box likelythe ballot will in 2018 and in 20 and in every election after two stunt the flow of that which strikes the heart of our nation very soul. We shout with unwavering conviction that no one should ever have to live in fear that they might be deported to a country they have never known. But no one should have their life turned upside down simply because their health takes a worse. He work but no one should ever have to say me too ever again. We march said that stories like mine and my mothers dont have to be one in a million. And we will succeed because when the chips are down, my fellow americans, even in the age of evened Nuclear Buttons and bigger egos, it is the ground beneath our feet, the brain between our ears, and the voices with which we speak that are the most powerful weapons in our endless fight for equality, justice, and democracy. Thank you. ]cheers and applause 17. 17 was the age i started in my activism and it sounds like magic to meet. So, now, i welcome lakisha keesha lewis, community sheizer and cofinder of wrote. Good afternoon. All right, so here he are the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on a beautiful, sunny day that we usually dont get this time of year. So when i say good afternoon, i am expecting a loud and rambunctious good afternoon. So my people, good afternoon good afternoon what an amazing time it is to be here in the heart of our nation advocating for the freedoms and truths we believe have been hours since birth. Thatow disappointing it is we have to continue to come back to this sacred place over and over. For me, this work is not something we do for accolades. I believe you are not here because you want to and upon tv. I believe youre not here because you believe s will get us freedom. I believe that it is your life, your experiences, it is what you know that the people around you been denied for far too long to bring you here to you sure energy, to usual time, and to use your talent to ensure that everybody, and i mean everybody, gets free. That is what brings me here. See, i come to this afternoon as a young, black, lesbian who was born to immigrant parents in boston, massachusetts. From ants came here caribbean with the belief that they would have something better. That by the time they had children, that they would have toess to freedom and liberty. The liberties that they heard about in their small island nation. Well, what a joke this nation has played on them. You see, as young black girl growing up in boston, watch my mom, who at the time was undocumented, struggle to work several jobs trying to put food on the table and keep a roof over the heads of my brother and i. Yet despite her hard work, we were homeless. It left me wondering if america was ever going to be a safe place for black girls like meat. If it was ever going to take care of black women like my mother. Despite ending up in a homeless shelter, my mom persisted. And nevertheless, she persisted. Applause]d while living in him a shelter, she became a community organizer. She looked around at a community laden with empty lander that we later found out was a toxic waste dump of some of our countries Biggest Companies like gillette. Lets name them. They would take their toxic waste into the poor neighborhoods and bury it. Right . So there, instead of cleaning up land and creating homes for people, they were creating illness for people. So long with other community organizers, she joined the dont dump on us campaign that successfully cleaned up the deadly triangle of boston. Then, she said it makes no sense that i and all of these other women have to live here in this shelter with our children trying to figure out what lies ahead of us, when there is land. Why people like me, when you free the land, you free the people. This land is ours to live in harmony with, not to abuse but to ensure that we all have access to things that we need to live a full land healthy life. So along with others, my mom became one of the first people to create the first housing coop that was on by poor residents in the city of boston. She turned the land across from the shelter into an eightunit housing coop in which she is still able to live. [cheers and applause] my moms determination to not only provide for herself but to also provide for communities, the community to which she belonged, is what turned me into a Lifelong Community organizer. Me that if freedom and justice is going to be one, we must not only be here to look out for ourselves, we must also link arms with the people around us. She taught me that no matter what your circumstances are, as long as you have of voice, as long as you have some sort of ability, it is your duty, it is your duty and right as a human being to figure out what your contribution will be to this absolute project of freedom and justice. I am going to close this afternoon by reminding you, my people, that no matter the circumstances from which you come, no matter what the dis you have had,hat you have to join arms with the people around you and remember there is no singleissue struggle because there is no singleissue life. It is and comes upon all of us to rise up, i said rise up for freedom and justice for everybody. Thank you. [cheers and applause] really powerful. Very inspirational. One thing quickly out like to share. I just published my first and child. Were going to be getting ready to march momentarily but first i would like to bring the primary organizer of this event, the peoples march on washington, the impeachment march. He organizer for want to thank everyone coming tonight and i want to say this, this is what is roots look like right here. This march in even in time of criticism, have took upon their own well, their own money, to fly up here, to organize. Late night phone calls, constant backandforth calls with park services. But we are proven once again that it is the voice of the American People that matters. [cheers and applause] im not going to keep you long because i know most of you want to march, not listen. When weo say this planned this march i did not planet for me or for my kids or for my community, tended for you. I plan to this event with a team of people who believe that our voices need to be heard. I believe the change can only happen when ordinary americans come together to demand it. And, we must demand change. Know, have said that, you we are wasting our time marching for impeachment but most of your not just for impeachment. But most of us here not just for impeachment, were here because were standing for something. People are from florida, las vegas, South Carolina, my home state and the home state of United States ambassador nikki haley. Michigan, but i want to thank you because it was you, the faithful messengers that kate my faith alive. That kept all of the organizers faith alive to keep this happening. I want to thank you. You are the best organizers in the United States of america because if you believe in yourself, if you believe in the power of your voice, if you believe that we can make a change, all you have to do is activate yourself in 2018 and get out there and go make a change. [cheers and applause] mother and my cousin, my boyfriend, my grandmother, they are the ones i am out here marching for. I remember my mother and im not to keep you all, she said she did not know at the end of the day of for six kids were going to eat or have a roof over their heads. I remember at night we did not have lights, we ate by candlelight. I remember making a makeshift grow outside on the backyard in order for us to have a hot deal. My mother walked 14 miles every day just to get a College Education and she is my inspiration. [cheers and applause] my cousin who was a former police officer, she got into an accident because she was working long hours and she lost her legs. Right now she is out there fighting for her and her job. They are messing with her medicaid. Irs is trying to take all of her money. Were going to keep fighting for it. I am urging for my grandmother who has spent over 50 years organizing from now to president jimmy carter. To all other organizers, she is right now when South Carolina speaking at a rally for the people. Making her voice heard. And age is nothing but a number and organizing america. I am going to leave you with this and we can start marching. Thegoing to say, gentleman here is holding a sign for heather byers. She was a woman killed in charlottesville.
