It is in there. Anything good and true and beautiful, it is in there. Watch afterwards, sunday night on cspan twos book tv. This year, there were more than 200 participants in the annual youth helmet debate at the british house of commons. One of the topics was affordable and accessible transportation for young people. This is 30 minutes. The Youth Parliament will now transport. The day, it is printed on the order paper. I call from yorkshire, brandon. [cheers and applause] accessibility, affordability, reliability. These are transport issues that young people care about. Transport has come up as a top issue five times u. K. Youth Parliament Since the began sitting in this house. There has been little done to improve it on a national level. This is something we can change. Time. Young people cannot afford to pay for the continually rising prices. We can all agree that it is disgraceful that some young people cannot afford to travel to school, college, work. If having transport is our campaign, there is potential and the idea of a national scheme. Taking transport affordable for all young people. Currently, only around one are of stations this is the case across the country in many towns and cities. In rural areas, many young access toe lack of buses and train services. From a place where some people dont live within walking distance to a bus or train station. Making public transport accessible for all young people. I waited and waited and waited at the bus stop. That sinking feeling of knowing youll be late for school. It is an example of how unreliable Public Transportation can be. And people should be able to depend on public transport to be on time. Every minute lost at school is a minute lost of valuable learning time. There must be a method of inform and people of changes to their journey. This can make certain young people can rely on public transport. Report. I have a it is a campaign that has already had success in yorkshire. This proves that, in this assure towe can achieve what we set out to achieve. Members of Youth Parliament, something as basic as public transport, how can you expect to on other issues . [cheers and applause] speaker bercow brandon, thank you for kicking off the proceedings for moving that motion so effectively. To oppose the motion, i want you , members of the Youth Parliament, equally warmly welcome from the southeast of next speaker. [cheers and applause] thank you, mr. Speaker. Ignore the giggle. [laughter] [applause] speaker bercow my apologies to you. And congratulations on reacting so magnificently. Thank you, anyways. Making a difference, making our marks, and improving the lives of our young people. We have this honor of representing some of the most inspiring communities, and i am incredibly proud. Counsel is an issue. It is an issue too many young people who have voted for it and use it daily to get to school, work, and college. Transportxactly about is the issue . That is a bit of a complicated term. There is nothing more heartbreaking than missing your school bus then when the next one is over an hour away. Speaker, we would effectively be floating for a series of smaller, divided campaigns. The voting for a series of smaller, divided campaigns. How can we hope to measure our successes . Why dont we follow the example of the council and cabinet of countless other groups are tackling a local transport issue locally . Months to deliver an Effective Campaign that works. Remember, counsel still is and will always be an issue on the u. K. Manifesto. Transport the campaign in a different direction. [applause] [cheering] forker bercow thank you your speech. Now, lets hear from the southwest of england. Who have we got . The woman at the end of the fourth row with a pastel colored top and jacket. Yes. I probably represent. I probably represent. I proudly represent. We represent those between the ages of 11 years old and 18 years old. You can drive at 17. For most of us, we are not experienced in the freedom of travel until we are 18 years old , given the time and cost it takes to learn. In a rural area, there are five buses a day and not on sunday. Withouthize with those adequate transport. This is something that affects the majority of young people, and something that we need to address. What is the point of keeping this ocean of transport if it makes it to the commons every year . It is clearly so important to young people. We clearly are not voting for the best interests of arrogance to joints. Thank you. [applause] for the best interests of our constituents. [applause] speaker bercow thank you. It is time we heard a voice from london. I think we will hear this young man here. Thank you, mr. Speaker. While i agree that transport is a big issue for young people, this topic is simply too big and without a vision. Another goal is more realistic and achievable in 12 months. We need to think about what is actually feasible in 12 months. Transport is not young peoples issue. It affects all of us. Encourage you to move against this motion and instead in favor of thank you. Speaker bercow thank you. [applause] what about scotland . Who wants to speak from scotland . The young man here. Thank you, mr. Speaker. There is a need for better. Ransport it must be run for people and not profit. It is not from the i urge you all to support this motion. Thank you. [applause] speaker bercow thank you. Now, i think we should hear from the northwest of england. Looking for a gentleman and a blue shirt, blue shirt. Yes. Think it is the gentleman in the second row. I believe so. I believe her name is jacob, and my right . Yes. I am jacob. I have a riddle. Schoolgirl pays for access to education. I have no idea, either. So many people feel trapped and isolated in their villages. Some young people are getting on buses our friends in london telesis will be too much of a campaign, too hard. I agree it will be too hard. One thing i would say is that we dont have trouble. We have not campaigned on this issue since 2011. For the past six years, the voices of these young people have been drowned out by the sounds of a bus struggling to make it up a hill. It is time we campaign on transport. Lets make it the national campaign. [applause] speaker bercow thank you. Jacob, thank you for a wonderfully engaging and charismatic speech, which i enjoyed. Now, i am looking to hear someone from the east midlands. Person from the east midlands who was struggling to stand earlier. I think it is rosy. You are standing now. Enjoy hearingo from you. Rosie from the east midlands. [applause] thank you, mr. Speaker. As a person with disabilities, public transport is near impossible. Trains hardly ever arrive. Luckily, i can drive, but many of my disabled peers cannot. They struggle to get around. What can we actually change . And ourhange opinions time and effort can be better used elsewhere. Thank you. [applause] speaker bercow thank you. Wales . Out whales i see the young woman here. As one of the previous speakers said, transport is a wide issue. One of the rain issues is the environment fight. One of the main issues is the environment side. [indiscernible] one of the most important issues at right now is the environment, Health Global warming has become a massive issue. How Global Warming has become a massive issue. I dont think we can address those until people are using them. They have no money in the first place. Of getting money is the taxes they get. Nobody is able to afford it. We cant tackle one issue without tackling the other. If one issue falls, than the other issue has to be stopped. Dontsuch a big issue, i it needs to be the entire u. K. We need to attack this as a country, not young people. [applause] speaker bercow thank you very much. , might we have a spiegel id we a speaker from the northeast of england . Who might we have from the northeast . Yes. Newcastle. Many companies are private. They seek to make profit. I believe this parliament should take transport under a different angle. Lets look at how we can affect Customer Care on transport. Lets look at why some teenage feel unsafe on public transport eight at night. Why is this happening . Why are we allowing this to happen . We should be making change rather than focusing on price. [applause] now, we havew fromtwo representatives the British Forces in germany. One of whom we heard earlier today. I dont believe the other one wants to contribute on the subject. If that person does, please say. No . That is fair enough. I am minded now to take a contributor from Northern Ireland, preferably one who hasnt spoken already. No . Not if that person doesnt want to speak. Ok. Not at this stage. Spoken, youho has might get a third chance. At this point, i will go to the west midlands. I am looking for speaker from the west midlands. This gentleman was trying earlier, so we will hear from you now. Finally. [laughter] [cheers and applause] thank you. My name is josh murphy. What leads me to this debate of transport has been the fact that it is really important for both a personal perspective and a dust perspective. We need to encourage people to use buses are often buses more often. Why dont we have free bus travel for Young Children so they are able to go to school for free and not worry about the additional cost of transport . For parents of cant drive or are disabled or children who are disabled themselves. Look at all of these facts. We need to have a serious conversation with people in charge of the government. The thing is, we have to look at this, and it has to be addressed. If this is not addressed soon, it can get to the point where people are going to be. Omplacent go for it. [applause] speaker bercow very well done, indeed. And, thank you for your speech and persisting. That was an excellent. I enjoyed experiencing that. I am looking for a female speaker from the southeast of england. Absolutely ecstatic. I will take you. Thank you. Thank you, mr. Speaker. I am going to eccles some of what people have already said today. I am going to a coast some of what people have already said today, public transport is expensive. We can all agree with that. To be socially active and go out, it limits the amount of them go out and spend time with friends, especially those who might live further away. Parents and families shouldnt be relied upon to the point where you can get a car or drive, because even when you get , because of rising inflation in cost, it is still expensive for people to drive. When that is the case, people cannot simply afford the rising increases in changes in bus tickets as well. It is for these reasons i believe we should Work Together as members to encourage people of trainswith the use and buses. I believe we can do this. Thank you. Speaker bercow thank you. [applause] england . T the east of the east of england. Yes, you work trying earlier. Your moment has arrived. Thank you, mr. Speaker. I am a member from essex. This is not just an issue for the people we represent, but for everyone regardless of age. Prices are high. Many people find opportunities being limited because they cannot afford the transport they need. Going to school, the price of my transport has risen year after year. Im sure many others have experienced this. I am aware some areas have no problems with transport, however, i believe transport is an important issue that we should [applause] [applause] speaker bercow i just want to establish if anybody from Northern Ireland want to speak and this debate in this debate. One year that scots got very annoyed. Nobody from Northern Ireland . I am looking for a speaker from yorkshire. Been majestic has you waiting at meet with some force is this woman here. Thank you. Issue that needs to be isressed as accessibility accessibility. Struck with the awful situation of not having a car. We lived miles away. Financial support. 10 pounds had to pay per date just to get my sister to the only school that they could access. That is not right. I urge you to vote for transport so that we can help everybody and not let anybody go without education. [applause] thank you. Please welcome josh kennedy from scotland. [applause] thank you very much, mr. Speaker. Ladies and gentlemen, i regret to inform you that your train has been delayed. I wonder how many of you heard that was traveling here today. Traveling here today. Prices are on the rise. There is increasing incompetence. That does not encapsulate the big picture. Live wherever you live inoblems are our transport system out how it is run. This was not an enjoyable experience. At lacks the facilities for disabled individuals. We need to shine a light on the bigger issue. Our transport system as a whole is failing. The cracks are beginning to show. We have a duty to consult young people on transport. People often have trouble getting what they like to see from Public Transport Companies. Of Public Transport Companies all. Can we afford to waste our time . Left in the are dust. The bus stop is not reliable enough. Madness to somebody who beingattends School Charged adult fare. We must take on the establishment and fight for change. Shouldnt we be fighting for a better curriculum . Friends, can we afford to waste our time . Young people are still not getting adequate transport and something must be done. Surely, we must decide what that is. Thank you. [applause] josh, thank you for that excellent wind up of another great debate. Coming up on cspan, threats from u. S. Adversaries including china and russia. Among the speakers is Heather Wilson and general john heighten. It is not prepared to fight in the future. The strength that we have today is based on the sheer numbers of capabilities that we have put up over the years. It works any adversary it dwarfs any adversary that we face. Our adversaries cannot deny the capabilities of the united states. Have beenaries watching us ever since the first gulf war. They have watched the enormous conventional power that we created, that in many ways with enabled by space. When you see that enormous capability, you have to decide, am i going to ignore that huge advantage or am i going to do something about it . They have been watching what we have been doing and developing capabilities. They have not been secret about it. They have been building weapons, weapons, eapons, laser and they have not kept it secret. They are building those capabilities to challenge the allies, and to change the balance of power in the world. We cannot allow that to happen. We would when it today, but not necessarily in the future. Somehow this country lost the ability to go fast. Our adversaries are one fast. We do not go fast anymore. We do four years of Risk Reduction for technologies that we built 50 years ago. Why do we take that much time . We take that much time because we have been able to because of the advantage that we have had over our adversaries. We dont have that much time anymore. We have to move right now and we have to move fast. We have to change the way that we do business. We are at a significant advantage today, but five years from now that advantage will be gone. 10 years from now we could be behind. You can watch the rest of the discussion from the Reagan NationalDefense Forum in simi valley, california tonight at 10 30 eastern here on cspan. The cspan tour continues with the stops in columbia, atlanta, and montgomery. On each vision visit we will speak with state officials. At 9 30on january 16 a. M. Eastern far stop in raleighnorth carolina. Coming up, efforts to fight online sex trafficking. Including legislation that would allow states and victims to sue specific websites. The house energy and commerce subcommittee hearing ran just under two
