Bring it and, bring in, bring it in, bring it in, bring it in. We are here to save the internet. [cheers] im about to bring someone to the stage was also from my home state, south carolina. I cannot think of an adjective to describe the fire she has brought to this fight. People, andfor the advocate for Net Neutrality. So lets of the fcc commissioner. [cheers] good morning Net Neutrality supporters. How are you doing . Were right next door to a place that is going to make a significant decision today. But we are right next to the people who speak and recognize that a quality over the internet equality over the internet is a right. [cheers] success one to base the art of justice on one vote today, i would be shortsighted and sad. Well i must admit i am outraged today about what we are poised to do, i know in my heart of hearts that the millions of people who recognized, the power the potential, and the opportunities we have with an open, inclusive Online Platform is a number one priority, im here to tell you that in the long run, we will be victorious. [cheers] now i am going to yield my time to some lawmakers who have got your back. What i will say to you today is a lot of people are questioning just what is Net Neutrality . I have family members and friends and a mom that is like, i am not sure exactly what it all is, but you do what you think is right. Mom, i am doing what i think is right. [cheers] and what is right is what i of the best yesterday when i was on a radio show. This is about internet equality. This is about internet equality. People that will sit in those chairs today and they will be your voices for internet equality. But you have got a court system, you have congresspeople, you have millions of people who are in your corner and we will achieve internet equality. Internet equality. Net neutrality. We will win at the end of the day. Thank you very much. [cheers] thank you so much. [cheers] feel we are so indebted to her. She does something the summer and continues to do something that others in the building did not do. She listens to the people. She travels. She was in los angeles, atlanta peering from the people about the real impact of Net Neutrality. And what it really means. It is a crime that this decision is being push today by people who are not gone out and listened to the public. So guess what, the public is here today to make sure they hear our voices. Speaking of people who listen, the next person i am going to bring up is another longtime champion of this issue. You need to Pay Attention to the members of congress are that are listening to us and have made public, vocal statements, calling for stops to this votes. Calling for us to keep the current Net Neutrality rules. This individual has done that and more. I have from massachusetts, senator wyden, who is going to come up and talk to us right now about Net Neutrality. [cheers] when i made that quick turn, that was my rain falling out of my right ear. Senator ed markey. Put your hands together. [cheers] thank you, all, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for being here. Time. S the issue of our and were out here in the cold to turn the heat up. They are going to feel the political pressure of tens of millions of people across this country who do not want to see Net Neutrality repealed. All ofe going to know those in congress, all of those in the fcc, that there is going to be a political price to pay for taking Net Neutrality away from the american people. This is a fundamental issue of ecology equality. The smallest entrepreneur, the smallest voice has equal access to the internet. This is about ensuring that every single voice is heard. This is about ensuring that without fear, they will be caught up and say black lives matter. That they can say yes she persisted. So no matter how small they can get online without being without having fear of themselves being flipped upside down and having money shaped out of their pockets by the big broadband. And that is why, ladies and i will file an amicus seat in the federal courts to make sure we take this fight to the courts and all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States if that is necessary. Im going to file a Congressional Review Act to make sure Congress Passes a vote on whether or not Net Neutrality rules are changed in the United States congress. We must make these people accountable. We must make sure we stand up for the little entrepreneurs, for the smallest voice in our because with every part of Net Neutrality, there is one thing that celebrate separates the people here from the people on the fcc who will repeal these roles. We are right and they are wrong, ladies and gentlemen. So, so let us now make sure that we stay in this fight. That we make them pay a political price. That we have razor blade edges on this issue and we bring this issue into the 2018 congressional races across this country. Bye people be accountable taking away Net Neutrality from people all across the country. Let us get out there and fight. Thank you for being here tonight. [cheers] thank you so much. [cheers] right now, i want to bring someone else to the stage that i have been a fan of for a long time, as well. Some of you may have heard there was a little general election last year. During that time, this individual served as National Press secretary for Bernie Sanders president ial campaign. She is now a cnn contributor. I am sure you all have seen her speaking truth to power on behalf of all of us on National Television every night. Togethert your hands and show love for simone d sanders. [cheers] somebody say for the internet. Free the internet. For the internet. For the internet. Let me give you guys some real talk. Give it up for the good senator. [cheers] what he just said is really important. Today is a very monumental votes. Im just going to tell you all it looks like it will not go our way. It looks like the people will not stand on the right side. Some of them are. Like our fcc commissioner. But some people wont. When they wont. We have to hold them accountable. We have to continue to organize. We have to support our members of congress. How many of you are members of the resistance . There is no resistance without a free and open internet. We have to organize. We have to make this a 2018 electoral issue. It is absolutely imperative that folks understand that a vote against keeping the internet against free is a vote poor people in this country, is a vote against people of color in this country, is a vote against activists in this country, is a vote against democracy. Were not going to stand for that. We have to get serious and continue to talk about it. I know we know, we have to take it to our networks. Im here because i believe in this work. I believe we can make a difference. I believe although we know it will not go our way today, we can make a difference six months from now or a year from now and we can keep it internet open and free. Somebody say for the internet. For the internet. Free the internet. Free the internet. Let us get this thing done. Thank you. [cheers] thank you so much. Let us keep it moving. Next up, we have a congressional champion out of my home state of california. Valley inng silicon his leadership there and im in hasongress demonstrated his ability to be a champion on Net Neutrality. [cheers] thank you for being out here. Thank you to the free press. They say to me, you represent silicon valley, you are a techie. This is some techie issue. His is not a techie issue this is a very simple issue. It is an issue for the middle class of this country. Let me tell you what is going to happen if they repeal Net Neutrality. When youre paying 25 or 30 to get access to the internet, now, youre going to get nickeled and dimes for extra you mel used, for extra use of surfing the web, for using facebook or social media. You will get charged an extra seven dollars when you download videos. You will get charged an extra amount. Is that the world that people want . But they first have to pay a basic fee just to access the internet and then they get charged for every single application they use . No with the Internet Service Companies Want to do, four companies, here is what they want to do. They want to turn the internet into cable. They want people to pay for every subscription, every application. Another that is just not what is in the interest of ordinary americans. Let me say one more thing. Y, in this country, three times more for Internet Access and people do in france. Have you ever wondered why is that the case . We invented the internet. We should be paying the cheapest amount. The reality though is that there companiesoly of four and that is what we have to tell folks. That is not a fight on some technical issue. Do you believe these for monopolies deserve more money and should have more profits and people should pay more . Or do you think people should still pay a decent , fair price . That is what the whole debate is about. Me say one more point. Let us take the argument at face value. This is the argument they are making. They are saying that if consumers pay more and we surcharging them to use the military to them extra fee for social media, charging them an extra fee for videos so they are paying a lot more money, these four companies are going to take and expanded it to the internet. That is their argument. Who thinks giving more profits warner, comcast, and charter is going to result in them putting more internet accident access to inner cities and rule america in Rural America . That is laughable. That is high you access the internet. This is such an important fight because the facts are on our side in the internet is the one h has not been corrupted by special interest. Congress has been corrupted, the media has had undue influence, every other place, there has been corruption and special interest. We need to keep the internet free. We need to keep the internet a place that is not corrupted by our companies that care simply about their profit. Thank you for being out here. All right all right. If it feels like it has gone a little more cozy in here, more people have showed up. Let me say something. That is not an optical illusion. We have 40 plus people hop on a bus from philadelphia this morning. Where are my philly people at . Make some noise. [cheers] have 40 plus people who hopped on a bus early this morning to make their way down here. They just got here and are ready to rally with us and wake up this fcc with us. Let us keep it rolling. Next up, a law professor from [cheers] georgetown university. [cheers] from georgetown university. [cheers] good morning, everyone. I want to start by technology and thanking everyone who has been on the front lines of this rubble for years. Fighting foreen equal and open internet. I want to start by technology them. Net neutrality is a civil rights issue. It is a human rights issue. It is a Racial Justice issue. Why . Because the repeal of Net Neutrality is part of this administrations continued war on civil rights, civil liberties, and communities of color. This administration wants to providersnet service the ability to prioritize certain views, disfavor certain views, block certain views, or even slow down ones ability to access certain views online. What will that do . That is a fundamental threat, and infringement on free speech, association, and expression. That fundamentally impacts us, people who are organizing, people who are mobilizing. It impacts our ability to say black lives matter. Me too. To stand up against the Dakota Access pipeline. Even if you think of the International Context and the arab uprisings, arguably, they could not have been possible without the ability of an open and Free Internet to connect, to organize, to mobilize, to politically educate one another. And what do we use the internet for . We use it to speak truth to power. [cheers] we use it to confront the most dangerous forces of our. Ime racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, discrimination, ageism, sashimi, islamophobia. We need an open and Free Internet. So wed an equal internet are able to confront these challenges. Not have thisdo opportunity Going Forward is because this is clearly fractured by special interest politics. A former verizon executive. [booing] he does not care about the people of this country or does the administration, which caters to one interest alone and that is special interest all it takes. Bynd today by saying asking you to think about all the wonderful things that the open and Free Internet has done for you. Has done for us. The ability to connect with one another, the ability to learn from one another, the ability to organize, the ability to rally. We owe it to our children, we await to our kids to make sure that they have the same opportunities to the next with one another and lebanon only did it well. Thank you. Thank you so much. That is right. Think this next speaker will speak to a lot of people in this crowd. And a world where you cannot afford health care, in a world where finding information about your health, your reproductive rights, can only be found online. Organizations like this one are out here trying to connect the community of people that can often feel very isolated. Next up, policy director for the National Network of abortion funds, Melissa Torres montoya. Good morning torres is melissa montoya, and i am the policy director. Today well talk about what it is like to deal with a World Without network new Net Neutrality. They build power with 70 abortion funds around the country and in several other countries around the world. To removee power barriers for access to abortion. For us, we work at the intersection of racial and economic and reproductive justice. For us, Net Neutrality is crucial to abortion access. When colors are seeking an abortion, time is of the essence. They need to know that information as soon as they discover they might have a pregnancy they might want to terminate. Is going toes, it delay access to abortion. But will not access our site because the provider deems abortion a controversial issue and not the Health Care Issue it is, it means somebody will have delayed care and maybe no access to care at all. There are antiabortion groups that will stop at nothing to make sure someone does not get the health care they need. At the National Network of abortion funds, we are already seeing what this is like. In some countries, our website is locked. We testifyools, where there are people steering sharing their stories is blocked. It removes people who feel isolated from connecting with each other. And someone breaks down and slows the internet for different groups, disenfranchised groups will not talk to someone who has had this experience. These are often the people who are the most marginalized and have the least access to health care. Net neutrality for us. Blocking the internet, slowing it down, it builds and increases stigma to abortion. An abortionty is access issue. As my shirt says, if everyone can see, everyone loves someone who has had an abortion. An in four women have had abortion. Whether you know it or not, you know someone who has had an abortion. Areneutrality, they depending on Net Neutrality to access information. Abortion access is a human rights. Say it with me. Abortion access is a human rights. Access to information is a human rights. Access to information is a human right. Health care is a human right. Health care is a human right. So abortion funds around this country stand for Net Neutrality and we will not stop until there is free access to the internet and to abortion care. Thank you very much. [cheers] all right, everyone. Were still here. Are you still here . Are you still here to save the internet . Yeah i am bringing someone onto the stage right now who is a vocal, i am bringingtw i am bringing two someones. Representative and shoe. S. Thank you to the internet coalition. It is warm here because you all are. So thank you, thank you for your advocacy. We know that it was a struggle. It was a struggle to establish the protections of the internet. We won that. We won that. In the was a struggle in the courts and we won that. And today, we are here to defend what has been achieved. And it is so important because the internet has been transformational. It has changed our lives. And as how we learn. It is how we do business. It is a product of american genius. But it is even larger than that. It is all about equality. It is about democracy. It is about free expression. These are the values of our country that are embedded in the internet. What the fcc chairman is taking on today is an entirely different battle. He is taking the internet and fourng it over to the large giant isps. The internet belongs to all of us. We are up for this battle, arent we . And we are going to win this battle because were going to win it in court. We are with you. We are going to be engaged, and we are going to win this one. Thank you, everyone. And now he does not need an introduction. Im going to give him one. This is the father of the effort. N the United States senate [cheers] thank you. Thank you, a tremendous champion. That here to tell you political change does not start and thengton , d. C. Trickle down. Political change is bottomup. [cheers] it comes from the grassroots. As we know, millions of americans are waiting and. In. Us be weighing let us be clear about what were talking about. Never should a giant corporation prioritize whose voice is heard, seen and who is silenced on the internet. We will not let that happen. [cheers] but it is not hypothetical, because in 2007, verizon locked Text Messages from advocates that said it were controversial or unsavory. [booing] wewe know here at the fcc, are playing a tough hand. But i do not have to tell you, we have won before when it comes to protecting the internet. You might remember a couple of those bills pipa and sopa were going to change with the internet was all about. Nobody thought we had a prayer. Hollywood, the chamber of commerce, all the money. But you know what we had . Three days before the big vote, 15 million americans weighed in, and the people won. [cheers] saye wanted to come by and that this is going to be a fight until we would. We win. We know we have our hands full at the fcc, but as the congresswoman said, were just getting started. [cheers] we are just getting started. We are going to play a stronger hand in the court. I heard a rumor, congresswoman, there is an election coming up. [applause] i am telling you, i would not want to be against an internet where after you pay your Internet Access fee, you get to go where you want, when you want, how you want. That is what the internet is about. That is what we are going to defend. We will stay out until we win. [cheers] [applause] thank you, so much. I will take off your hands, senator. Thank you. After step. Thank you, thank you. Thank you so much, senator. Put your hands together [cheers] as they just said, the internet is all about our voices , and the next what he will here is one of the brightest, sharpest, most unapologetic feminist voices that we have today. She is Vice President of a Programming Division of i won. She is a former editor at every magazine and i know you have known her from black twitter. [cheers] good morning i speak to you today as someone whose career would not exist if it were not for the open internet. I do not think one or 10 or 100 or 1000 stories of individual professional success are enough to inspire people to care about this thing, so what i got to work on a magazine or website, right . But everyone has a voice, but few people get access to a microphone. The open internet has given people of color, women of color, black people, black women, like myself, who would not be heard, who would not occupy positions of power and influence in media and other fields of industries, if we do not have theh ability to agitate, to resist, to tell our truth. You do not have the modernday Police Movement without the open internet. And even the unsuccessful grand jury that have decided not to process you. People who have used and misused their power as police officers. We would not even know those names were not the open internet. We have only just begun to tap into the potential of this resource. This is war. This is war on the poor, on women, and people of color, on any principled person who considers themselves to be an american. At [cheers] [cheers] i think you not go in the way we need them to go today, we p ush harder, we scream louder, we use the access we have right now, and we demand justice for ourselves and for our loved ones. Thespeaking of which, internet is just not an opportunity to further your education or your career. We are starting families there. Spome of us have children that are born because of a relationship from an internet that started on the internet. Were learning more about ourselves in the world around us than our ancestors could have ever dreamed of. Please continue to fight this fight, continue to resist, and continue to demand that we are able to use technology that was created to make our lives better to do exactly that. Thank you. [cheers] [applause] thank you so much. I got to hold her purse. Im so excited. Next up, we have two people inside the sec that are our champions. You heard from the first earlier. [cheers] i like this you are raising a ruckus. I am going to have to make it quick. In a few short minutes, i will occupy the building and take a vote that is wrong. Theres so much that is not right about what the fcc is doing here today. There is so much that is not effortbout this agencys to rollback Net Neutrality. Net neutrality is internet freedom. It means everyone of us can go where we want and do what we without our broadband providers getting in the way are making choices for us. [cheers] we do not need to hand them the power to choose which voices to amplify, to choose what connections we make and the communities we create. Bothered by the incredible content this agency has shown the american people, who have spoken out to make one thing clear. And that is that they support Net Neutrality. And it doesnt matter if you are from a big city or a small town, you benefit from internet openness. Are asnt matter if you progressive or a conservative, you benefit from internet openness. [cheers] it doesnt matter if you are a startup or an established business, you benefit from internet openness. [cheers] internet openness is how our democracy thrives in the digital we may be taking the wrong vote today, but i am not giving up and neither should any of you. Thank you so much. Thank you for being here. [cheers] you too thank you. Thank you so much. We know you are on our side. All right. We will take a quick threeminute break so that you can get your bodies moving and we will get a little warmer before we keep it rolling. Get the music going.
