Ok. Good afternoon, i am chair of the democratic working womens group. We will have two speakers today. Myself and Brenda Lawrence who is our vice chair. Jackie may come in, she is our Policies Communications chair. I wanted thank i want to thanik my colleagues who are hee today. The me too movement has arrived. Sexual abuse will not be tolerated whether by a hollywood producer, the chef of a restaurant, member of congress, or the president of the united states. No man or woman is above the law. Clear is saying loud and that accusations of sexual abuse should be taken seriously. Must be heard, perpetrators must be held accountable, and all party should have an opportunity for a fair resolution. To date, more than 17 women have publicly come forward to accuse donald trump of Sexual Misconduct. Forced kissing, unwanted touching and groping. On an airplane, and incorporate office and in a pageant dressing room. The president meets denials and his press secretary comes out to say the matter has been litigated. Which is why, over 100 democrats there is a letter we want to initially that was number an overwhelming of women and men have insisted that they join us. We have over 100 members right now and that number is rising. We have joined in a letter to the Oversight Committee calling for a congressional investigation into the allegations of Sexual Misconduct by donald j. Trump. Simply said, americans deserve the truth. With that i yield to representative Brenda Lawrence of michigan. Rest rep. Lawrence we in congress are facing a critical point in history. Many are calling it a watershed moment. For too long accountability has not been the cut bad behavior has not gone check. For too long we have accepted cop outs like locker room talks. For too long courageous voices have fallen upon deaf ears and now that time is over. I am sorry, mr. President , you do not live under a different set of rules. The vice chair of democratic womens working group, and a member of the Oversight Committee, i stand here to support their rights to a voice, and to seek justice. I stand her demanding accountability, a full investigation from congress when the white house will not provide its own. I stand here in support of over 100 of my colleagues, and i am sure millions across america asking for this fair and transparent investigation. Ranking member, of our Oversight Committee has already gone out in a strong support of moving forward with this investigation. Thatthat chairman the chairman will recognize the need and urgency of this matter. Of the Oversight Committee i call on all of my colleagues who sit on this andittee to support immediately launch this investigation. Regardless of the victims or alleged predator. Every voice deserves to be heard, and justice demand transparency, accountability, and due process. Thank you. Any questions . My first question is, have begotten any response from the Republican Office . Not yet. What do you say to republicans who argue this is something that congress should be investigating did wequestion is what say to republicans who say this has already been litigated . The president was elected the Oversight Committee has a very broad jurisdiction. I will remind everybody of the whitewater investigation many years ago when president clinton was investigated for matters that were outside his presidency. Yes. Goal of thise end investigation . Www. Cspan. Org i if we can get to the truth think that will need to the next step. I am a firm advocate of accountability and that is what we are struggling with now in congress. You cannot get them until you get to the truth. American people with denials and accusations, they deserve to have a thorough investigation that will reveal the facts. I think, certainly, violations of the law can lead to that. History has shown us that we impeached president for inappropriate, sexual behavior in the past. I would say history answers that question. [indiscernible] lets go back to the presidency and there were so many issues being litigated that may have overshadowed the allegations of the many, many en who were accus accusing him of sexual abuse. If you look at the country and the me too movement, the time is right to get to the truth of the matter. What do i say about roy moore . Maybe i say it takes one to know one. I think it is disgraceful that he would back him. Yes . [indiscernible] yes. Come over. You know her. [laughter] she is one of the mothers of the movement, also our policy communications here. Aware, house all rule 10 gives the congress of the united states, particularly the house of representatives, the authority to investigate anything at any time. It is under that house rule that we are calling on the government Oversight Committee to do the investigation. Morningk place this when the president tweeted about our colleague, senator kiersten, it it is grotesque. It took my breath away and it represents the conduct of a person who is ill equipped to be the president of the united states. Absolutely. We will all say amen to that. [indiscernible] i think we have all taken the position that we want a fair process here. Some of us have been working with the House Administration committee to get a fair profit. I think that is what we are all about. I think the Democratic Party has been very strong in saying that there should be an ethics investigation and that you have seen actions from the Democratic Party that we are not running away from this, we are standing together and say accountability goes all the way to the white house. I think we all believe that sexual Abuse Victims of noual abuse, perpetrators, specific race, religion, ethnicity or party. I think republicans, democrats, independents, are all equal opportunity offenders. Anybody else . You. T, thank thank you for being here.
