1. 5 plus interest. It is criminal. It is a lethal attack on the middle class on americans jobs, good health and education on the seniors and republicans will force our children to pay this debt. They are robbing from the future. All of this is to hand staggering tax breaks to the wealthiest 1 and shipping jobs overseas. 62 of the tax breaks in the enate bill go to the top 1 . Thats what theyre up to today. After an entire year squandered on republicans special interests giveaways, they have an urgent overdo list. While the president tweets, i dont see a deal, democrats are simply asking, were so sad because we want to give him some information and he could have some judgment. Democrats are asking for action a broad set of bipartisan priorities but to make him understand how they fit into an appropriations bill. We want to keep government open. Thats what we are about. They have the votes. They have the president ial signature to do whatever they want but democrats are committed to keeping government open. We need to raise the caps. We support Additional Resources for Strong National defense and important to note that we need to increase the domestic budget because the domestic budget, the nondefense nondiscretionary budget, to those of you who write about appropriations and im an appropriator. Nondefense discretionary domestic budget, a third of it are National Security issues, veterans, state department, Homeland Security and the antiterrorism efforts of the Justice Department. A third of the budget is about our National Security function. The rest of the bubblingt shall another strength of america. And the wellbeing of the American People in our system. So, what i want to say to him. Here are some of the things that you might have learned and those empty chairs and the difference in the caps that we are in the discussion now that are covering the caps situation, the difference is money we could pay to address the opioids epidemic. We are affected by the opioids epidemic. Veterans, we need increased veteran spending and increase veteran spending. Veterans would be sitting in those chairs. Children, chip and the Community Health centers, the funding that is needed there, all of this agreed to in a bipartisan way and for which we may in some cases have offsets. So its not just an increase. Emergency disaster funding for exas, puerto rico and Virgin Islands and wildfire communities, those people would be sitting in those chairs. That message would come through. And saving americas endangered pensions across the country. This is a crisis. We want to talk to the president about that. Again, bipartisan support. And then, of course, passing the dream act, which has broad bipartisan support in the congress. So we are advocating for priorities that have broad bipartisan support and which would pass on the floor with an up or down vote on any one of them. We were going to talk to the president respectfully and in doing so, make the case for why the caps have the parity that we have talked about, because our National Security and the strength of our country measured in a different ways depends on it. He didnt even want to hear about it. Sometimes when you have knowledge, you have to make a judgment and you cant make how can you judge if you dont even know what you are talking about. We will continue to make our case. Instead of pushing our nation nto a needless cries you and republicans need to keep the government open. And our system protects checks and balances and when we disagree, we recognize we have a role in the system of checks and balances. This tax scam and we said to them, lets go to the table and do this in a bipartisan way, which then would have sustainability, which would send a message that this is something the country is committed to stead of this ripple, this pillaging of the middle class that the republicans are doing. The trickledown economics is in their d. N. A. It has increased the deficit and not true that it pays for itself. With that, i will take any questions you may have. This is the fight we are engaged in. They think they have the fights and that will go to conference and thats really the fight in the house and the senate on the bill. Repeat, 80 of the middle class families will have an increase on their taxes. Reporter it seems like with earlier in the week that the window is closed and get this big omnibus down by christmas but other things you can do. Can you characterize or good a flavor of how things are looking . Are you optimistic and will you vote to keep the government open even if you dont have a dreamers plan in hand . Ms. Pelosi the republicans have the majority in the house and senate and white house. E it is up to them to keep government open. They keep changing. I just give you an example on intelligence. Everybody thought we were on a good path in judiciary and intell 702 and drop their poison pills in. Reporter are there any conversations with the white house about spending outside of public view, outside of the meeting . Ms. Pelosi the ongoing conversation with the Appropriations Committee to go back, the Appropriations Committee has been on a bipartisan way moving forward, bipartisan, ate, bicameral. The question is are the paths. Until you have the paths, you cant really finish the bill. Reporter the white house wants more defense spending. Do you see a spending . Ms. Pelosi the white house ants to disrupt the parity relating to sequestration. Thats not even close. But between 54 and 37 are opioidses, more funding for veterans, issues that relate to pensions, all kinds of things that are bipartisan. We are going there and talk to the president about the values of what it was of just saying, this is what would be included in all of that. So that we want to have all the defense that we need to protect our country. And onethird of our discretionary budget is National Security. And state department, Homeland Security and take care of the Justice Department and veterans. Reporter a woman has come out ms. Pelosi ill come back to that because what we are fighting right now. This is very serious how we get revenue and invest it. How it takes us deeply into debt and how we allocate the resources that remain after this relationshipoff. Any other questions on this . Reporter National Security related. Section 702, any discussions whether with republicans on this and that expires at the end of the year. Ms. Pelosi in the 702, which is about the collection, we thought we were in a good place with the judiciary, two committees of jurisdiction, judiciary and intelligence committee. The House Select Committee on intelligence. We thought we were in a good place. The republican side has put a poison pill Public Domain what they put in the bill. Is poison pill in the Public Domain . So they put in something that was unacceptable to us and our Ranking Member had thought we ere in a good path until something in the end. Reporter what is it . Ms. Pelosi its about unmasking and not anything we could accept. But somehow or other, the chairman decided at the end he was going to put that in. This is a very big issue. Nd a lot of equities to be raised and balanced when you are talking about surveillance and it respected privacy but enabled us to go collect and put the poison pill in. Thats where it is now. Thank you for asking about that. Any other on ill come to you. Porter a woman has come has called out conyers. How come you havent called on him to resign . Ms. Pelosi the allegations against congressman conyers are serious, disappointing and very credible. So sad. The brave women who came forward are owed justice. I pray for congressman conyers and his family and i wish him well but however, congressman conyers should resign. He served our congress for more than five decades and served on the most con see question sentional legislation. This is zero tolerance no matter how the legacy,. And in fact, it makes it even more disappointing. Yesterday, the house took the irst step mandating sthearment rsh sexual harrassment. And that is important for congress to pass. A resolution in the house to mandate nondiscrimination and nonsexual harrassment training. In the house, the has its own resolution. The bill that passed the house and the senate and to create Greater Transparency and accountability in the broken reporting and settlement system. That is being discussed now and may be additions to be made. We will all Work Together to lead the fight against sexual harrassment and abuse, not only in congress but in every workplace across the country everywhere in our country. As far as whol hill, we want to ensure that everyone who might be a victim of this, whether its staff to staff, member to staff, member to member, its all over. This is a new day and the courage of the women coming forward is something that is making a big difference, but also the attitude in the country, which i think springs from the election of donald trump. Reporter you think you are calling for conyers to resign . Ms. Pelosi im calling for him o resign. And input that we have. And then well see what that legislation looks like. But we are going to do as much as we can for transparency to your question and also for how victims are compensated. Reporter then you support retro activity . Ms. Pelosi well see and maybe have to add something to the bill to do that. And theres a whole question as to whether we can just say, we free you of you, whatever, obligation that you have. Congress can pass a law to give immunity to people if they feel they cant speak. Gain, we want to unconstrain the victims from coming forth. Thank you all very much.
