He is a disciple of jack kemp, who was very involved in the 1986 tax reform effort. I saw someone tweet that yesterday was basically ryans dream since he was a waiter at a mexican restaurant. This was basically a lifetime goal for him and a huge political win for him. He put his whole weight behind this effort and got it passed the house of representatives, despite the fact some members in his own conference had reservations. The attention now turns to the senate. What are some of the key differences in the bill that is coming out of the Senate Finance committee versus the one on the house for . Colin the Senate Version has repealed the individual mandate requirement within the Affordable Care act that individuals Purchase Health insurance or else face a tax penalty. Conservatives hate that. There was a push within the senate to try to get this included. It appears that was successful. Some senators are still hesitant to vote for a tax reform package that has that. Hashouse provision temporary tax cuts the senate provision as temporary tax cuts house plan has something more permanent. The differences on various sections like mortgage interest reductions, which the house cut in half. The committee spent four days working up the republican measure. Some debate, and you tweet about one of the dustups between democrat Sherrod Brown and the chairman of the committee. Does this give us a sense of how the Senate Floor Debate will go . Colin yes. Democrats will continue to argue that this is basically a tax plan for the rich. It is an ageold argument between them and republicans on tax reform. The Senate Finance chair, normally a more softspoken voice became , heated last night. Basically said the macarthur have been making these arguments for years and sick of it. This is something that is not going to go away. This is part of the democratic messaging. Senator ron johnson is opposed to the current form of the senate measure. Are there other Senate Republicans who have expressed no one the bill . Colin two senators are on the fence over various, basically over the individual mandate issue. Lisa murkowski says she wants a guarantee that a separate Health Care Bill to shore up some of the obamacare subsidies for Health Insurance will go through before she will vote for tax reform. Senator Susan Collins says she is hesitant over voting to review individual mandates. She might be more cautious over the effects that could have on Health Care Premiums and loss of insurance. Other than those two and senator johnson, who is reservations over Small Business divisions, has reservations over Small Business provisions, senator corker has also expressed hesitancy over the cost of this package. It is going to cost over 1 trillion over 10 years. As deficit hawks, they have some reservations. The measure is expected on the senate floor after thanks. Iving the Conference Committee, you talked about some of the Sticking Points. What else might we see in a potential Conference Committee . Colin there is a repeal of a key Financing Mechanism for president trumps efficient or infrastructure plan within the house bill that isnt in the senate bill. That could be a Sticking Point within conference. Several members had reservations over that on the house side, mainly transportation and infrastructure focused. Representatives said they would fight to get that put back into law, the repeal of that funding mechanism out. That is a key difference between the senate and house versions. Also, mortgage Interest Deduction is something that hits home. The house plan would cut had that in half. The senate bill doesnt touch that is much. It is possible they could lineup somewhere between those two. You can read more at politico. Com coul.
