The taxwriters themselves are quiet about what amendments they might offer, but changes the members are seeking are in a few different areas. There are concerns about the state and local tax deduction. Some members dont think it goes far enough. There are also concerns about the mortgage interest adduction and the proposal to limit that 500,000omes of two and mortgage Interest Deduction on second homes. On the state and local taxes issue, there are a couple dozen members who voted against the budget a week ago or so that have some issues about the state and local tax provision in the bill. How will leadership work on keeping those members in line and getting their votes when it comes to final passage . I think they feel like over the compromise they won over a few of those members, and just today, Tom Macarthur from new jersey said he ran the numbers, and its ok for his district, and hes ok with the language now. There are still some members concerned. Im not entirely sure they are going to make changes, and if they do, it might be a tweet on the cap to get one or two members on board. I think they are willing to lose some people over this. As you said, you called it four grueling days. It all starts monday, the ways and Means Committee hearing. It is at noon eastern. What are some key moments you will be looking for and key members you will be following as the markup continues . A key issue to watch on the republican side, because they have acknowledged there might be changes needed, is on the Small Businesses. A lot of rankandfile members have been saying that the guard rails they put in place for this 25 for Small Businesses that limits the amount of income that passthroughs can claim, they say it doesnt apply to enough businesses, like personal service industries, doctors,com. Accountants, lawyers. They dont benefit as much as manufacturers and other capitalintensive firms. I think some Committee Members might be open to some tweaks. Four days of markups ahead next week. If all goes well and the product coming out of committee looks good among the membership, they probably will bring it that week, monday or tuesday, and they will have it on the floor that thursday before they head home for thanksgiving.
