Wildfires. For more about whats in this, we talked to a reporter with cq roll call. This proposal where is this going . As to where its going, we are expecting a vote in the house tomorrow and it looks like this should pass and should pass pretty easily. As far as the way the numbers are broken down, its about 36. 5 billion. Supplemental. A lot of that goes to the Disaster Relief fund. About 19 billion. Theres also 16 billion in Debt Forgiveness for the National Flood insurance program. Theres a little under 600 million for wildfire suppression. And theres also 1. 2 billion for nutrition assistance in puerto rico. The other part of this is that about 4. 9 billion will be transferred from the Disaster Relief fund to a loan program primarily for puerto rico. And your headline at cq. Com showing the total. 36. 5 billion is what house appropriators are releasing. It appears that that figure has gone up since last week. Wasnt it a 29 billion proposal last week . Thats right. The Trump Administration asked for 29 billion. And then last night or yesterday they sent another request to Congress Asking for an additional 4. 9 billion. To go into the Disaster Relief fund. And then to be transferred into that Community Disaster loan program for puerto rico. And in your article you write that democrats were angling for some of their own addons such as a request by House Minority leader nancy pelosi for more money to combat wildfires. Obviously with the situation in california. Is nancy pelosi happy with whats been offered up in this proposal for disaster aid . She is happy with it and its clear that there will be further supplementals. Both republicans and democrats are saying that. You mentioned nutrition assistance for puerto rico. Why is that additional money needed . Its needed because of the its needed because of the hurricane damage in puerto rico. Puerto rico was hit very hard. So this would be nutrition assistance for lowincome people in puerto rico. This additional request, this additional appropriation request largely driven originally by delegations from texas and florida. Are those delegations, particularly the members from texas, satisfied with whats been proposed in the bill . I think they will mostly support it. Texas and florida did not get the additional money they want. But its clear that further supplementals will be on the way after this one. Lets talk about the support for this measure, which is coming up under suspension of the rules. Meaning it takes 2 3 of those present and voting to pass it. But it wont get any chance at amendments for this bill. Mark walker, the chairman of the republican study committee, releasing a letter calling a dear on debate. Calling for allowing amendment debate. Why is he concerned about that . Well, so he looks at this and says, this is pretty complicated. This has a lot of new stuff in it. Authorizing language, etc. So he wants amendments to increase the transparency and also to provide offsets to some of the spending. A lot of republicans would like to see offsets. But most are probably going to vote for it even without offsets. You mentioned there would likely be additional requests for funding all based on the outcome of the hurricane, the wildfires in california . Those should be coming in the future.
