Crossing Washington's perilous Willapa Bay bar holds a steep cost

A 2021 Coast Guard report about the Willapa Bay bar noted the “sea can break into dangerous surf at any time in this area,” and cautioned that mariners should only attempt the crossing “if you are intimately familiar with the entrance.”
