A wildfire that erupted in southern California on Wednesday night prompted mandatory evacuations after quickly burning through more than 300 acres.
Firefighters responded to the blaze, dubbed the Creek Fire, in the 37000 block of De Luz Road in Fallbrook at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the North County Fire Protection District.
The fire quickly spread to Camp Pendleton, prompting evacuations in parts of the U.S. Marine Corps base.
Mandatory evacuations were underway for people in the DeLuz Family Housing and Lake O'Neill campground areas at Camp Pendleton, fire officials said.
