Hindus do not cremate their dead at night. But the burning embers from funeral pyres long into the night across crematoriums in Uttar Pradesh, much like other states, present a different story.
"There is no time to wait for morning to arrive. The next pile of bodies is awaiting its turn," said Azad, who is in-charge of conducting last rites of Covid-19 patients at Baikunth Dham in Lucknow.
