Cracking down on human trafficking; Montgomery County among leading counties filing charges

HARRISBURG — Since 2015, when Pennsylvania’s first comprehensive human trafficking law took effect, 200 cases involving a total of 784 human trafficking-related offenses were filed statewide and Montgomery County was among those counties leading the state in the number of such filings, according to the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts.
There were 123 human trafficking-related offenses filed in Montgomery County Court between 2015 and 2019, representing about 16% of the statewide total, according to data compiled by the AOPC. The charges included involuntary servitude, trafficking in individuals for financial benefit and trafficking of minors and the offenses were associated with 13 separate cases.
Of the 13 individual cases that involved human trafficking-related charges in the county, two were filed in each of 2016 and 2018 and four cases were filed in 2017 and five cases in 2019, according to the data.
