Come spring break-up, a lot of cowboys east of the Rockies head west to get the blood and the spirit moving again.
Calgary's Cowpuncher is headed in the same direction, but don't expect the music to match the rustic name.
"We're more rock 'n' roll these days," explained Matt Olah. "It works to our advantage since we can play more venues. We can walk on both sides of the fence."
The band kicks off a Western Canadian tour Thursday, April 21 at Pogue Mahone, their Kamloops debut.
Olah - a former TRU student in its UCC days - is the founder and front man for Cowpuncher (an old term meaning cowboy), a seven-man band with their self-described "Heartbreak Honkytonk Rock 'n' Roll Show."
