India has reported 250-300 cases of the Covid-19 sub-variant EG.5.1, also known as Eris, and is being closely monitored by Insacog. No clustering or unusual surge has been observed so far, said an expert. While the World Health Organization has declared EG.5.1 a variant of interest, experts in India believe it is unlikely to cause a significant upsurge in daily cases.
