ALBANY - New York will require all state workers to either get a COVID-19 vaccine or get tested weekly in a bid to slow the virus' new spread.
And at state-run hospitals, "patient-facing" workers must get vaccinated, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.
The announcement comes after New York City said earlier this week it would require vaccines or weekly testing for its workers, and President Joe Biden is expected to make a similar rule for federal government employees.
Cuomo said the state is negotiating with unions to implement the vaccine and testing mandates for its roughly 130,000-member workforce by Labor Day.
