Even as India reels from the latest wave of Covid cases, plunging the country into a medical emergency, Bengal’s voters appear to be unaffected by the fear of the virus. Caught up by election fever, politicians, party workers and supporters have let down their guards, throwing the need for precaution to the winds, with few maintaining Covid protocols like mask wearing or social distancing. While the consequences will be seen some weeks from now, West Bengal has recorded 9,000-odd new cases since April 10.
