SCHOOL TODAY. NEWSCENTER 5’S JENNIFER EAGAN TELLS US ABOUT THE PROGRAM THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE. JENNIFER: STUDENTS FILING INTO BOSTON ARTS ACADEMY IN DORCHESTER THIS MORNING COULD GET THEIR FIRST COVID VACCINE IN THE BOOKS. THE SCHOOL OFFERED THE SHOT ON SITE. >> YOU CAN WALK OUT OF YOUR DOOR, OUT OF YOUR CLASSROOM, AND WALK INTO A FACILITY AND GET VACCINES WHERE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE. JENNIFER: BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER RAN THE WALK-IN CLINIC IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BPS. CHILDREN AGES 12 AND UP WERE OFFERED THE PFIZER VACCINE, AND THEY COULD BRING THEIR PARENTS OR OTHER RELATIVES TO GET THE SHOT, TOO. >> WE GAUGE THE INTEREST, THEN MULTIPLE BY THREE, SO IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE DO 300, 500 TODAY. BUT IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE EVEN DO 100. >> THERE’S SOME THOUGHTS PEOPLE ARE HAVING ABOUT SOME SIDE EFFECTS THAT AREN’T GOOD, SO MY MOM SHE WAS JUST KIND OF WORRIED. JENNIFER: BUT THE ACCESSIBILITY IS WHAT CONVINCED SOME STUDENTS. >> ONCE SHE SAW IT WAS CLOSE BY AND OPEN, SHE SAID, YOU KNOW, LET'S JUST DO IT. >> WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE ARE REACHING OUT TO KIDS AND PARENTS AND ANSWERING THEIR QUESTIONS AND GIVING THEM ACCESS TO THE VACCINE. JENNIFER BOSTON MEDICAL CAP THEIR AMBULANCE ON SITE. THEY SAY ANYTHING THEY DON’T USE AT THIS CLINIC CAN BE BROUGHT BACK TO THEIR PHARMACY. RIGHT NOW THEY HAVE THREE MORE CLINICS PLANNED AT BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
