Alappuzha, the home of the houseboat industry in Kerala, looks like a haunted destination now, with the district caught in the pandemic dragnet. Around 1,200 houseboats lie anchored on the Vembanad lake. They have been moored there for the past 16 months and a majority of them are in unserviceable condition.
