COVID-19 cancels spring break on college campuses as students seek other ways to cope with pandemic burnout

Zarifah Shahid, seen on East 63rd Street in Chicago on Thursday, is a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and one of many college students who won't have a traditional spring break this year.
Last year, Eric Benda and his college friends flew to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for a rejuvenating spring break trip, an experience he described as “one of the best weeks of my life.”
But this year? Benda, a mechanical engineering major at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, will barely leave his dorm.
