GUWAHATI: The third drive for vaccination in the state for the 18-44 age group, the registration for which began on Wednesday, was limited to just registering the name of the beneficiary as the existing vaccine stocks are running out in Assam. The beneficiaries could neither register their preferred jab centres nor the brand.
With only 6.37 lakh vaccine stocks in the state, the Centre on Wednesday refused to give a nod for the vaccination drive for the 18+ group in Assam. “The government of India did not allow us to go ahead with the vaccination of the 18-44 age people with such a limited stock of vaccines. Only the registration was allowed,” immunization spokesperson and director of health services (family welfare), Assam, Munindra Nath Ngatey, told TOI. “As on date, the 18+ people from the state can only register their names. Nothing beyond this,” Ngatey said.
