Laurel County Sheriff John Root says K-9/Shift Sgt. Gary Mehler along with Deputy Marcus Stigall were called out to a cemetery on Ward Cemetery Road where two people were reportedly passed out in a car. Deputies found the vehicle there with a woman, later identified as 31-year-old Whitney Collier, in the drivers seat and a man, later identified as Randy Collier, in the passenger seat. Both appeared to be passed out. Police opened the car door to check on them and were able to wake them up. Both were determined to be under the influence. They admitted to police that they had purchased heroin and had driven there to shoot up. Deputies also found several needles and a white powdery substance believed to be fentanyl which was sent to the state crime lab. Both were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
