Due to exceptionally dry conditions, officials are set to announce fire restrictions Friday that will ban the sale and use of aerial fireworks and firecrackers within the boundaries of Grant County, as well as the open burning of croplands, lighting of campfires and the use of any equipment or vehicles that emit sparks.
Outdoor smoking will be prohibited, except on residential property, and those engaged in welding must have ready access to 10 gallons of water and a shovel.
“I’ve been having conversations with the State Forestry Division, and with [the U.S. Bureau of Land Management], but they haven’t imposed restrictions yet,” Fire Management Officer Randy Villa told the Daily Press shortly after the newspaper received a legal notice Tuesday evening announcing the ban.
