County COVID tallies remain low

WOOD RIVER — For the second straight day, the Madison County Health Department has reported fewer than 10 new confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases.
The MCHD reported only nine new cases on Monday, one day after reporting only eight. The figures are the lowest numbers of cases reported for any one day since four cases were reported on June 22.
The MCHD reported 333 tests on Monday and just seven COVID-19 patients in Madison County hospitals, one on a ventilator.
On Tuesday the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 197,387 COVID-19 vaccinations so far in the county. IDPH officials said 96,644 county residents — or 36.54% of the county’s population — are now fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
