The incident happened at about 7.50pm on Wednesday in White Lee Road, when a grey Seat Leon was in collision with a female as she crossed the road.
The woman was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in custody.
Floral tributes were left by the road yesterday, with one message reading: “Our condolences from all at Fairfield School.”
