Chatham-Kent councillors partially backed a motion Monday to seek additional provincial help for local businesses and mental-health supports, but stopped short of calling to end the lockdown for regions with lower case counts.
West Kent Coun. Mark Authier, who tweaked the wording from his initial notice of motion, asked the mayor send a letter to the Ford government, requesting the premier review the shutdowns and apply them on a regional basis based on COVID-19 numbers.

However, council voted this down after a short debate.
As of Tuesday, Chatham-Kent currently sits at 35 active cases, with the bulk of the province’s caseload reported in the Greater Toronto Area.
