Whitecourt residents will be able to toss their masks for most indoor spaces after town council voted unanimously Monday afternoon to repeal its Temporary Mandatory Face Coverings Bylaw.
The provincial mask mandate will lift July 1 at the start of Stage 3 of the “Open for Summer” plan, except for in public transit, ride sharing and in acute and continuing care settings.

Council adopted its mask bylaw in mid-November, said Peter Smyl, town chief administrative officer.
“To my knowledge, we did not charge anybody under our bylaw,” said Doug Tymchyshyn, town Director of Community Safety.
