Plans are moving forward in Vermilion Parish to demolish the old Herod High School to make way for a new community center.
The Rev. Walter August, Jr., who bought the school, shared his plans for the property at an Abbeville City Council meeting Tuesday night.
He told the Meridonal that he plans to tear down the old facility and build a 50,000-square-foot educational and cultural center.
August says the project will help the community for generations to come.
"The community really needed an uplifting spirit of inspiration," explained August. "I've been working in Vermilion Parish for the last nine years, so this is another endeavor to take it to a higher level, to do something more permanent for generations to come. It's a good season for us to be able to do this."
